Home Delivered Meals II : older Adults Sensory Perceptions and Satisfaction from Assistant Nurses Perspective / Hemlevererade måltider II : äldres sensoriska upplevelser och nöjdhet från undersköterskornas perspektiv.

Forsberg, Sarah January 2019 (has links)
Introduction: Overall meal satisfaction and sensory properties of the food have been seen to impact the nutritional status in older adults living in residential care homes. However, there is a lack of studies focusing on home-dwelling older adults’ perceptions and satisfaction of home delivered meals. Objective: The purpose was to examine home-dwelling older adults’ sensory perceptions and satisfaction of home-delivered meals from the assistant nurses’ perspective. Method: The present study was the quantitative follow-up phase of a mixed method study with an exploratory sequential design. Data was collected through an online survey regarding assistant nurses’ (N=74) experiences of their care recipients satisfaction and perceptions of appearance, odor, flavor and texture of the meals. Result: The nurses reported that most care recipients appreciate the sensory properties of the meals. However, the perceptions of texture and flavor varied considerably as the texture of vegetables were perceived as either hard or soft, and the meat was perceived as either chewy or easy to chew. Moreover, the flavor of the meals were perceived as either tasty or tasteless. Sensory properties were important for the care recipients’ meal experience, and odor (OR= 6.15, p= 0,03,) and flavor (OR= 5.71, p= 0,05) were significant predictors for meal satisfaction. However, satisfaction could not be correlated to type of delivery system. Conclusion: Chewing difficulties and deteriorating smell and taste senses could be a reason for the great variation of the reported perceptions of texture and flavor. To increase older adults’ acceptability, more focus on choice of products and cooking techniques might be a way to improve the texture and flavor of the meals. Furthermore, due to selection bias the result cannot be generalized.

Geografické přístupy k hodnocení kvality bydlení v Česku / Geographical approaches to assessing the quality of housing in Czechia

Baxa, Jan January 2016 (has links)
Choice of housing is one of the most important decisions of inhabitants. It is a relatively new process in Czechia which did not work absolutely freely till 1989.Inhabitants accustom to choice of housing and learn this process which is based on the relatively short experience. On the one hand, the importance of the choice of housing is conditional by low willingness of the Czech inhabitants to move and on the other hand, it is amplified by the high purchase price, which usually means the greatest investment in life of households. Thus, people consider many aspects in the wish to satisfy one of the basic life needs during the choice of housing. The place of future residence is one of the most important of them. Housing research is a relatively new topic in geography. Even though systematic research on housing and quality of housing in Czechia takes place more intensively (in the social sciences, for more than two decades), there were not performed territorial differentiation of the quality of housing assessment and comparison of municipalities according to suitability for. The concept of quality of housing has appeared almost exclusively in connection with the dwelling yet, the basic unit of housing. Housing permeates all basic areas of human and social life. Therefore the evaluation of the quality...

Paquin, Marie-Hélène 07 1900 (has links)
Aims: The fall rate in urinary incontinent (UI) older women is higher when compared that with continent women. One hypothesis is that a strong desire to void (SDV) could alter gait parameters and therefore increase the risk of falls. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the effect of SDV on gait parameters in incontinent and continent older women who experienced falls. The secondary aim was to determine the relationship between UI severity and gait parameters in incontinent women. Methods: A quasi-experimental pilot study was conducted with two groups of healthy community-dwelling women who experienced at least one fall in the last year: continent (n=17; age: 74.1 ± 4.3) and urgency UI and mixed UI women (n=15; age: 73.5 ± 5.9). We recorded, analyzed and compared spatiotemporal gait parameters for participants in each group with both SDV and no desire to void condition. Results: Reduced velocity (p=0.05) and stride width (p=0.02) were observed in both groups with SDV. An increased incontinence severity was correlated with reduced velocity (rs=-0.56, p=0.03) and increased stride length variability (rs=0.54, p=0.04) in SDV condition. An increased incontinence severity was correlated with reduced velocity (rs=-0.63, p=0.01), increased stance time (rs=0.65, p=0.01) and stance time variability (rs=0.65, p=0.01) in no desire to void condition. Conclusions: SDV alter gait parameters regardless of continence status. Further, UI severity was correlated to gait parameters that constitute a risk of falling.

Sälgen 4 : Adaptable housing in Stockholm / Sälgen 4 : Flexibla bostäder i Stockholm

Berg, Martin January 2014 (has links)
I have designed a housing project that is an infill to an existing housing block in the city center of Stockholm. When I started this project the themes everydayness and building typology was central for me. That is why I also chose to work with the site Sälgen 4; a corner site and one of few remaining gaps in the block structure of the city center. Today there is a gas station on the site, which I for this project presume could be removed. When working with this project I found interest in what simplified could be called soft flexibility, where measurement, shape and connection to other spaces are dealt with in order to enable for different kinds of usage. This type of flexibility I encountered when studying late 19th century dwellings in Stockholm city center. I have developed similar apartments, often with a size of about 140 m2 with 4,5 rooms and an additional kitchen. Even all the room units are similar with over 4 m width and close to square shapes. This enabled the creation of very generic spaces but also introduced me to an interesting paradox; the on the architectural drawing less dynamic floor plan create on the other hand the most dynamic ways to inhabit the spaces. Also the loggia has been an important feature in my design.

Moreau, Sabrina 01 1900 (has links)
A public health issue, domestic violence has various consequences for the many women who experience it. By leaving their violent partner, the majority of survivors find themselves without a home and face risks related to their housing (eg homelessness, financial precariousness, re-traumatization, insecurity, instability, discrimination, etc.). Left to themselves, few women obtain professional support and a place in a shelter. The built environment where they live can promote their healing as well as threaten to hinder it. Thus, a custom-designed layout can positively impact their post-traumatic experience. Recently, design specialists wish to adjust their practice to the spatial needs resulting from domestic violence through a trauma-centered approach. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the context of the private home, since studies focused more on collective emergency accommodation. This research questions how trauma-informed design (TID) can intervene in the private home of survivors in order to facilitate their healing process. This master aims to verify whether it is necessary to develop an offer in TID and to assess the needs of women in their homes. Through grounded theory, mixed methodology takes place in three phases to fill the theoretical gap. First, a conceptual framework on TID determines the themes to be discussed with the informants. Next, an online survey explores the perception of Quebec service providers. Finally, a comparative case study focuses on two women through semi-structured interviews, photographic documentation and analysis of environmental conditions. The results reveal that the private home must adapt to the life course of each survivor and to the context of her separation to tend towards residential stability and the projection in an emancipating future. It is important to understand the specific needs and challenges around the built environment to support holistic healing through home. In this way, this space must promote a positive and safe perception, a personalization of the premises, a free use of privacy and a healthy relationship with the outside. To date, the existing continuum of services offers a start in housing assistance and would benefit from being supplemented by a specialization in TID. In conclusion, reflections emerge on the legal recognition of the adaptation of survivors’ home as well as on the awareness of the many faces and intersectional life experiences. By combining design with social intervention, the active participation of women in the design process encourages their empowerment. It is also suggested avenues of services that can be offered to women survivors and professionals working with them. Nevertheless, this theoretical exploration does not offer strategies that can be applied directly to an interior design practice. It is still necessary to continue this initial effort to translate the research results into concrete means of operationalizing them in a design process.

Förfallna hus, låsta rum och bottenlösa lådor : En komparativ studie av platserna vi bebor i Andarnas hus och En herrgårdssägen / Decaying houses, locked rooms and bottomless boxes : A comparative study of the places we reside within in The House of the Spirits and The Tale of a Manor

Aurell, Lovisa January 2024 (has links)
This essay studies the motif of houses in decay in En herrgårdssägen (The Tale of a Manor) (1899) by Selma Lagerlöf and La casa de los espíritus (The House of the Spirits) (1982) by Isabel Allende. Bachelard’s La Poétique de l’Espace (The poetics of Space) (1958) is used to examine what it means for the characters in these works to inhabit a place in general, but also a place that is disintegrating. Several characters from the works are studied, and a particular focus is placed on the characters associated with supernatural events. Through Susan Fraiman's article "Shelter Writing" (2006), a feminist perspective will be used, which questions Bachelard's idea of the home as a maternal embrace and his emphasis on housework as a nostalgic chore. The essay describes the houses from both novels before and after the decay and applies an expansive approach to the houses' boxes, trunks and rooms in order to grasp the places' connections to memories, chronology and imagination. The focus lays on how the houses are perceived individually by different characters and that the consequences of the property's decay can be downright beneficial for the characters in the works.
