We hope you have a cheerful disposition and a sense of humor and enjoy the challenges that a leadership position entails” : An analysis of job advertisements for positions as first-line managers in elderly care

Hägglund, Sandra January 2024 (has links)
Elderly care is facing increased challenges in recruiting nursing staff and their managers. The study aimed to investigate how managers in elderly care and their work are portrayed in job advertisements for such positions. The research questions addressed the portrayal of the suitable candidate, the upcoming position, and the factors used to attract and recruit managers in elderly care. The study is a qualitative document analysis in which a summative content analysis was conducted on the empirical material. Motivation theory and self-determination theory constituted the theoretical framework of the study. The results showed that employers demonstrate a good understanding of motivation-promoting efforts for managers in elderly care, but also that the benefits and advantages offered are not tailored to the sought-after candidates. Employers also tended to emphasize the autonomy of the manager while describing the work as regulated and with high demands for goal achievement.

Arbetsrelaterad stress bland enhetschefer. / Work-related stress among middle managers in social services.

Persson, Julia, Sandoval, Bianca January 2019 (has links)
Middle managers is the name of the professional group who is responsible for institutions that are run by the Social Service Act and Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional impairments. They work in a politically controlled organization with the municipal social welfare committee as the outsourcer. Middle managers are identified as a profession with a high workload and a higher risk of being exposed to stress, in comparison with other occupational groups with a leading position. The aim of the study is to examine how various stressors contribute to work-related stress. The method is a quantitative survey with the aim of reaching out to more people and to get a larger overview of the middle managers work situation. The study has been carried out in a medium-sized Swedish municipality, where all middle managers in municipal elderly and disability care were selected. The result shows that the stressors that contribute most to work-related stress are the high workload in relation to working time and a lack of opportunity to fulfill the client’s wishes.

Understanding in Healthcare Organisations- a prerequisite for development

Henriksen, Eva January 2002 (has links)

This study proposes that poor understanding of the structures, processes and outcomes of organisations seriously hampers collaboration between professional groups in care organisations. Three care settings were investigated: follow-up of patients with heart disease, an intensive care unit and care services for older people.

The overall aim was to investigate how people understand structures, processes and outcomes in care organisations. The participants were patients, patient representatives, healthcare professionals, managers and politicians.

A qualitative approach was used. Thematic analysis and grounded theory were employed in analysing the data.

Despite considerable efforts, no major changes took place over a 7-year period as to how cardiac follow-up services were understood. The system of cardiac follow-up services was found fragmented in its organisation and in the way individuals understood it. The results indicate that care professionals, patients and leaders have dissimilar understandings. The data suggest that care is organised from a professional-centred perspective rather than from a holistic worldview of the patients’ total context. Leaders in intensive care perceive their organisation as a learning organisation. However, in daily work healthcare tends to function to what can be described as a mass production approach to care. This state of conflict caused confusion and chaos among the leaders. The municipal elderly care services and the county council’s geriatric organisation had difficulties in co-ordination. Older people were perceived as passive recipients of healthcare, rather than as consumers whose well being and outcome were a reflection to the quality of the service.

The study concludes that despite the major changes that have taken place in the Swedish health and elderly care organisations over the past years, healthcare professionals’ understanding of their work has gone largely unchanged. Their understanding of care structures and processes did not change despite outside pressures. Lack of understanding of what others understand hampers development with the result that care organisations risk stagnation.

Narrative Sinnstiftung in Organisationen

Rätzer, Matthias 17 July 2015 (has links) (PDF)

Sven, inter-organisational relationships and control : a case study of domestic care of the elderly

Kraus, Kalle January 2007 (has links)
Care of the elderly is frequently debated in the Swedish media. Pensioners, who are often ill and lonely, need help with social care, such as cleaning and cooking, and health care, such as taking medicine and treatment of injuries and wounds. They are aided by home helpers from the home helper unit and assistant nurses and nurses from the health centre. How does control operate in this intimate and private situation, and what influences the home helpers? What is the relation between control and the delivery of care to the pensioners? These are the questions explored in this dissertation, based on an empirical study of domestic elderly care in a large city in Sweden. The thesis explores the conflict between the productification of care, manifested in administrative controls, and the needs and desires of the pensioners in specific care giving situations, manifested in self controls. It is seen that even during periods of high financial pressure, the home helpers are influenced by the pensioners. The home helpers are flexible and do extra things not included in the pre-specified social care contract for some pensioners. Flexibility is shown to be important for the pensioners, but the increased financial pressure makes it harder and harder for the home helpers to be flexible. It is therefore suggested in the thesis for social care service purchasers to put in some unspecified time in the social care decisions and not just pre-specified operational activities. In this way some flexibility will be built into the administrative system. The importance of cooperation between the health centre and the home helper unit is also stressed in the thesis. There is a need to issue administrative controls for cooperation. A joint task group, with members from the health centres and the home helper units, meetings between the home helpers and the nurses and specified guidelines for cooperation tasks can act as controls which would sustain significant and positive effects on the cooperation. Finally, a problematic underlying financial process for the home helper units is identified. The home helper units are not often compensated for yearly salary increases. The problems of the moment receive significantly more attention, but this thesis points to the need for discussing the ongoing, underlying and problematic financial process in the elderly care. /
Diss. Men and masculinities in the changing Japanese family

Umegaki, Hiroko January 2017 (has links)
The shifting topography of contemporary Japanese society is engendering a significant reorientation of men’s family relations. However, exactly how Japanese men are adapting to these broad-based trends, including parent-child relations, demographics, marriage norms, care provision, residential choices, and gender roles, as well as in the decline of Confucian worldviews, remains relatively obscure. In this dissertation, I explore men’s everyday practices underpinning their family relations as husbands, fathers, sons-in-law, and grandfathers. I conducted ethnographic fieldwork in the summers of 2013 and 2014 in Hyogo, through narrative interviews and participant-observation. I find husbands’ view of their wives transitioning from having a culturally prescribed duty to perform domestic matters to simply having responsibility for domestic matters. This opens up space for negotiation within married couples, with my informants providing what I refer to as additional help, which offers new insight into charting the evolution of hegemonic masculinity. I evidence relatedness founded on exchange as an approach to understand relations across the extended family, which importantly involves additional help, financial resources, and intimacy. I underscore how men selectively seek intimacy in some family relations, notably as fathers and grandfathers. Provision of additional help and seeking of intimacy lead to men’s (re)construction of masculinities differing across family relations, with an important reason for men to select their practices so as to craft their family relations is to address their sense of well-being. Further, the pattern of men’s family relations reveals the emergence of substantially novel sons-in-law relations, as compared to that found in ie patriarchal norms. This evidence suggests a fundamental shift from a vertically-dominated set of family relations, as in the ie household, to a more horizontal, fluid set of relations across the extended family.

Principy financování veřejné a dobrovolné formalizované solidarity ve službách sociální péče v ČR / The Principles of Funding of the Public and Voluntary Formalised Solidarity in the Social Care Services in the Czech Republic

Vojtíšek, Petr January 2016 (has links)
Title: The Principles of Funding of the Public and Voluntary Formalised Solidarity in the Social Care Services in the Czech Republic Abstract: The social care services are a specific system within the social protection system. Opposed to the public benefit systems they allow the coexistence of public and voluntary solidarity. There are many welfare state models and systems of cooperation of the public and NGOs in Europe. These models offer differently formed relationships of their entities. This thesis raises the question of finding a more convenient organisation of the whole system of the social care services in the Czech Republic where the problem is currently being discussed The objective of the thesis is to find possibilities of public and voluntary solidarity in the social care services settings and to suggest ways for their cooperation. The research is mainly based on qualitative methods. Firstly, the causal links of statistical nature from the fields of demography, social relations and economics are introduced. In the next step a combination of methods of in depth interviews and expert discussions is used. They focus on public solidarity and regulation in the system. The last research step brings 3 case studies with examples of the best practice in financing of NGOs in the social care services...

Carolina Parente de Andrade 26 March 2012 (has links)
The elderly now occupies 11.3% of the brazilian population and it has afforded the society for being increasingly dealing with issues related to aging.
