Bebês e crianças pequenas em instituições coletivas de acolhimento e educação: representações de educação em creches / Babies and toddlers in institutions of collective care and education: representations of education in nurseries.

Beatriz Mangione Sampaio Ferraz 27 June 2011 (has links)
This research sought to identify and interpret the representations of education of infants and toddlers from the nursery professional teachers. The subjects were the professionals responsible for children 0-2 years in a private companys nursery in São Paulo, located at the campus of a university. This research was configured as a ethnographic character interpretive strategy involving the case study. The procedures used to identify the representations were as following: formal and informal interviews, photographic records, and direct observations of practice. These observations were performed weekly during three months with three distinct groups. Besides the professionals data collection and the researcher fields notes, records on the daily routine with children, teachers planning and routine groups were also analyzed. A study based on official documents, academic productions, and produced literature on infant education experiences in educational institutions was also conducted with the intention to grasp, understand and interpret the variables involved in the representations identified. The analysis of the information collected during the field research had as a benchmark the theory of representations and the pedigree method proposed by Lefebvre (1983). The study of the everyday routine in the nursery indicated that the daily practices reflect not only its history but also anticipates it. In terms of their own representations, teachers seemed to be restricted to the limitations of their own experiences. However, when it came to analyze the practical implementation the previous statement did not seem to occur. The group of teachers provided evidence of changes in history, building a potential future with transformative practices. The study of representations indicated that the nursery is understood as having the function to socialize, promote autonomy and child development. The study of everyday life combined with the analysis of representations of the educators indicated that, despite understanding the function of the nursery as caring/educating, in their representations it not appeared yet incorporated. When exploring educational proposal, it was found that what they understand as education is what they must teach from a more formal educational perspective, highlighting not only the content focused on personal and social education, but also the contents of the different languages thus adding them to the role of the nursery and approaching a more integrated care/education paradigm. The analysis of representations also revealed contradictions between rhetoric and practice in regards to the representation of children, the relationship with the families and the role of the teacher. The beliefs that originate their representations are guided by past personal and professional experiences, present knowledge about the history of this sector and lack of listening and reflection on the foundings of the daily routine. It was proven that the teachers lack the possibility to develop in a critical method the experiences of routine educational processes, as much in regards to the daily life as its representations, relating them to the representations of other subjects, with the whole story of the institution and the unique history of the nursery where they work.

Dlouhodobá strategie rozvoje sociálních služeb na území vybrané obce s rozšířenou působností do r. 2030 (akcent na determinující faktory strategie) / Long-term development strategy for social services in selected municipalities with extended powers to 2030 (accent on the determinants strategy).

TOURKOVÁ, Olga January 2016 (has links)
The thesis deals with the issue of long-term strategy for the development of social services in the municipality with extended scope Světlá nad Sázavou to r. 2030. The aim was to describe the current situation in selected municipalities in terms of facilities and related social services to handle the forecast population on a given territory by 2030 and ratify the lessons learned in terms of the need for social services in the interviews with key players in the field of social and related services. The theoretical part is focused mainly on the concept and characteristics of social services and related issues with regard to demographic changes. The practical part is divided into three parts. In the case study, I firstly describe the current state of social and health services in the municipality with extended powers Světlá. In the second part of the thesis, I compiled the forecast population of the selected area by 2030. In the final part in order to achieve the objective I conducted interviews with key personnel in social services in the studied area. The conducted research has revealed several recommendations for the town Světlá. In the future, it would be appropriate to support outreach and outpatient services, and increasingly develop cooperation with existing non-profit organization that operate in the selected area. It is also necessary to resolve the issue in an appropriate manner of people at risk of social exclusion. By 2030, the increase in the number of people older than 65 years in the studied area almost doubled. With that will surely come the need to extend existing capabilities of social services. For the city, it follows in the next 15 years to take appropriate action in response to the social policy of the state. The current system of financing social services and the care allowance is assessed as ineffective and requires appropriate legislative adjustment, so that the network of social services in the Czech Republic in the future, is prepared for the expected demographic trends.

: A qualitative study about careworkers' perceptions on youths’ development or maintenance of criminal behaviors during residential care (HVB)

Johannessen, Eila, Gottlieb, Viktoria January 2024 (has links)
Every year, young people are taken into custody due to the youth crime prevailing in today's society. Several of these youths are placed in HVB (homes for care or residence) around Sweden to rehabilitate from their destructive lifestyles which can be seen as a concept of action from a social sustainability perspective. However, HVB have been criticized for disadvantaging the healthy development of youths due to a potential negative socialization process. All individuals are subconsciously influenced by their environment which can be argued to be more sensitive for youths, hence the concept of gathering several youths with similar issues in an HVB can be questioned. The social psychological theories underlying this issue include social influence, conformity, social learning, social identity, and self-determination theory. Using these theories, the study aims to explore caregivers' subjective experiences of HVB-placed youths' criminal behaviors. The study examines social psychological processes in the form of interpersonal relationships and norm culture to see how they affect youths' maintenance or development of criminal behaviors. With a qualitative design, the study uses semi-structured interviews with a sample of 10 caregivers in a Swedish context. Through thematic analysis, we have been able to identify three overarching themes:“professionals' approaches”, “protective factors”, and “risk factors” with a total of 12 associated subthemes. The results indicate that gathering a group of antisocial youths in the same setting often contributes to a negative influence for the youths. How the youths are affected by their residential care depends on the protective and risk factors they possess, as well as how caregivers engage with and work with the youths.

Clean and green? Environmental quality on the New Zealand dairy farm

Menzies, Diane January 1999 (has links)
This study explores issues arising from the adoption of the term 'clean and green' for marketing New Zealand dairy products. Three dimensions of environmental quality were investigated: that of sustainable dairying and best practice for the benefit of farmers and the industry; resource management legislation and being a 'good neighbour'; and export marketing opportunities and issues. The study was undertaken during a time of major structural upheaval in the dairy industry, including yearly company amalgamations in the study area, rapid conversion of farmland to dairying, as well as factory expansion to process the increasing supply of product. The focus of the study was on the individual farmer, how perceptions and preferences are formed, and how in turn, these influence farm practice. World views drawn from Cultural Theory were adopted as the basis for analysis. Farmers were classified according to particular world views and the symbolic and reflexive use of concepts such as 'clean and green' was analysed. A model of overlapping ecological, agricultural and social systems was used to develop a wider understanding of preference formation. Through a mixed methodology, focusing on a case study approach, farmer and stakeholder world views were compared on key themes, including the 'clean green' pastoral myth, 'cues for care' and environmental issues. Media discourse as well as consumer views were used to expand understanding of the context. The study found that both farmers (within their groups) and stakeholders held different objectives and opinions on environmental issues and options for change, based on their various world views and preferences. There was general agreement both among farmers and stakeholders on the New Zealand 'clean green' image and 'cues for care', or signs that indicate good farm management. The reason for this was demonstrated to be the way in which these two aspects are communicated; through symbolic images that each individual perceived in terms of their respective world view. A symbolic form of action, an environmental management system, was trialled with farmers. Analysis indicated that national aspirations created by the 'clean green' pastoral myth required farmers to respond to environmental expectations, but that an image that symbolized environment as care and quality, rather than as place was needed to provide a less ambiguous goal. The findings of the trial were integrated with theory to interpret context and develop policy, strategy and action proposals for a system for environmental quality for the industry. The study has implications for non-regulatory mechanisms relevant to sustainable dairy farming, communication within the rural community, and branding.

Lyssna med Hjärtat : Hur personal på Hem för Vård och Boende arbetar med psykisk ohälsa hos ensamkommande barn och ungdomar / Listen with your Heart : How personnel in Homes for Care and Accommodation work with mental health issues among unaccompanied children

Lindh, Ulrica, Johansson, Sandra January 2017 (has links)
This paper is a qualitative study about how personnel in Homes for Care and Accommodation work with mental health issues among unaccompanied children. The purpose with this study is to identify how they are working with mental health issues and explore how the personnel would like to work if their resources were unlimited. Interviews have been used as a qualitative method in this study and a social constructionist approach has been applied. The theoretical perspective in this study is salutogenesis and this perspective has been the stepping stone during the analysis of the gathered material. A reflexive analysis of the empirical data has been made and the result is presented in several themes connected to the experience of the personnel. The result and analysis show that it is not the duty of the accommodations to work with mental health issues but still, in practice, this have become their responsibility. The methods used are mainly focusing on building relationships with and structure around the adolescents. Conversations are the most important tool when working with mental health issues. The result also presents that clear information, more help from professionals and more education are items the respondents wishes that they had access to. In the discussion, reasoning is around who has the responsibility for mental health among unaccompanied children and how an increased sense of context could be a proposition for trying to decrease mental health issues among unaccompanied children.

Back to the Roots : Re-Connecting Humanity and the Natural World by Merging Interactive Technology and Plants

Aalbers, Sander January 2022 (has links)
This thesis project explores combining interactive technology and the natural world, through a more-than-human design approach. This project aims to step away from an industry-driven design by valuing plants as equal in the design process. Throughout this report, an overview of the relevant theory and examples are elaborated on. This overview has informed the project in two ways. It formed the foundation of a concept aiming to improve the user’s interconnectedness with nature and it formed the foundation of an evaluation tool developed for aiding designers in design for plants by addressing three design fields: Design for Care, Design for Cohabitation, and Design for Noticing. The concept and the evaluation tool have been developed in parallel and informed each other throughout the project. The final concept contributes to the discussion about addressing more-than-human actors in design. In this case by addressing plant blindness. The evaluation tool contributes to more-than-human design as a tool to evaluate ideas and projects. This project included an extensive analysis of a design collection, workshops regarding the materiality of living plants and assessment of the evaluation tool, an interdisciplinary design approach, and a prototyping phase during which assumptions regarding the concept were tested.

Evidence-Based Diabetic Discharge Guideline: A Standardized Initiative to Promote Nurses' Adherence

Scarlett, Marjorie V 01 January 2017 (has links)
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) affects more than 29.1 million Americans. Standardized clinical practice guidelines recommended by regulatory healthcare agencies are the standard of care for diabetic patients and must be adhered to by healthcare professionals providing care. Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to identify Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization’s, and other professional healthcare organizations’ guidelines for nurses’ knowledge of evidence-based discharge practices; determine level of nurses’ knowledge on evidence-based discharge practice process; develop a quality improvement plan, including development of an evidence-based guideline for diabetic discharge instructions; present guideline to stakeholders; implement the guideline in fall of 2017; and evaluate nursing compliance with the guideline at a for-profit adult care hospital in South Florida. Theoretical Framework: The chronic care model was utilized as the framework. This model has been used for improving practice and preventing many chronic illnesses. Methods: Two quantitative nonparametric descriptive designs were used, the Wilcoxon signed- rank test and a paired t test. An online demographic survey and pre- and posttest surveys were administered to determine nurses’ knowledge of diabetes discharge guideline practices. The Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) evaluation tool evaluated the guideline, and data were analyzed with Wilcoxon and paired t tests. Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the pre-posttest survey responses for question 5 (p=0.046 Wilcoxon; p=0.041t test), and question 13 (p= 0.022 Wilcoxon; p=0.018 t test), indicating improvement. With the AGREE II tool, the multidisciplinary team evaluated the guideline at 100%, and 76% of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) demonstrated compliance with guideline use. Conclusion: A standardized diabetic discharge guideline incorporated into the hospital’s discharge process provided APRNs and RNs with tools for educating and providing diabetic patients for increase in quality of life after discharge. The guideline was recommended by the administrative team for continued use throughout the hospital. Implementation of an evidence-based standardized diabetic discharge guideline to promote nurses’ adherence results in effective nursing practices and an informed patient population.

Kleschnitzki, Jana Marina 02 January 2024 (has links)
Aging population is amongst the biggest societal challenges of the future of all industrial nations. These challenges can be faced by technological measures as Serious Games with have a big potential in preventing and promoting health, just as benefiting from the key role of mobility as a preemptive effective measure. This dissertation is first committed to give an overview of the condition of elderly people in German nursing contexts. It will then evaluate the potentials of a serious game for health-promotion of elderly people plus the influence of the pandemic and in order to derive recommendations for future studies. The study design evaluates a Serious Game for the promotion of physical, cognitive and psychological competencies, beginning with 1000 elderly people in 100 nursing facilities in Germany over the course of one year by means of an IG and CG. The implementation of the study unveiled discrepancies, so that following investigations, RCT-designs, clear drop-out-regulations and differentiated measuring instruments are recommended. The descriptive analysis of elderly people in nursing homes states a literature driven image of their specific constitution which is characterized by a big variance and an interactive multidimensionality of their main constitutions. The sample, which was very diminished due to the Corona-pandemic, showed first tendentially positive changes within the measured cognitive values (MMST) as well as in the motor values (Tinetti-Test) compared to the CG, whereas the influence of the isolation measures leveled this development, which suggests that the pandemic-restrictions had a crucial impact on motor skills of the participants. This result is consistent with the current research which attributes great potential to serious games as a preventive measure in standard care and for the necessary activation of those in need of care - given that those games are evaluated in a high-qualitative manner and are played regularly and long term.

Measuring poverty in the EU : investigating and improving the empirical validity in deprivation scales of poverty

Bedük, Selçuk January 2017 (has links)
Non-monetary deprivation indicators are now widely used for studying and measuring poverty in Europe. However, despite their prevalence, the empirical performance of existing deprivation scales has rarely been examined. This thesis i) identifies possible conceptual problems of existing deprivation scales such as indexing, missing dimensions and threshold; ii) empirically assesses the extent of possible error in measurement related to these conceptual problems; and iii) offer an alternative way for constructing deprivation measures to mitigate the identified conceptual problems. The thesis consists of four stand-alone papers, accompanied by an overarching introduction and conclusion. The first three papers provide empirical evidence on the empirical consequences of the missing dimensions and threshold problems for the measurement and analysis of poverty, while the fourth paper exemplifies a concept-led multidimensional design that can reduce the error introduced by these conceptual problems. The analysis is generally held for 25 EU countries using European Survey of Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC); only in the second paper, the analysis is done for the UK using British Household Panel Survey (BHPS).
