A constituição do vínculo e o legado familiar heteronormativo em casais homossexuais longevos, femininos e masculinos / The constitution of bonding and the heteronormative familys legacy among homosexual long-lived female and male couples

Déa Bertran Munhoz 18 August 2017 (has links)
This Doctoral thesis aimed to understand the construction of female and male homosexual conjugality by selecting long-lived couples, with more than twenty years of relationship. Based on data collection through semi-structured interviews with the couples and the use of previously selected cards of the projective measure TAT (Thematic Apperception Test), under the clinical-qualitative method, four couples - two male and two female, with and without children from previous heterosexual relationships - were analyzed under the perspective of linkage psychoanalysis. Results point to romantic marriages, with protective and emotional bonds, but under post-modern influence based on the fact they are together only by their desire, with flexibility of the gender performances and democratization of the relations. The four couples demonstrated a commitment to building and sustaining the conjugal bond as well as coexisting in harmony, highlighting the individuality of each one. These couples materialized their love relationships at a nonpermissive and pathologizing time for homosexuality, using disguises and double lives as a strategy for survival, an attitude still present in the lives of two out of the four couples. This characteristic, in particular, may lead a gay couple to need bigger spaces of fusioning when compared to heterosexual couples, so that they can strengthen themselves in the face of the social discomfort which they go through particularly the ones who have kids from previous heterosexual relationships. In this case, in addition to the divorce itself, there is also the confrontation related to the sexual orientation of the ex-partner. Only one couple of men had legally married due to the fear of losing the assets acquired to the children of one of them; the couple of women with a child had also legitimated their relationship through common-law marriage and testament. Both couples without children hadnt sought any type of legal legitimacy nor were worried about it. The heteronormative heritage they received was adapted to their lifestyles, although there hadnt been a family and social place to be occupied homosexuality and homo-conjugality, while seen, are often not named nor recognized. There were no references to betrayals, although, among two of the couples, the children had been the triggers of already overcome crises. The findings confirm the linkage psychoanalysis theory, which emphasizes the concept of otherness, between one and another, as a basis to comprehend this type of conjugality

Promoting Educational Equity through Teacher Empowerment:web-assisted Transformative Action Research as a Counter-Heteronormative Praxis

Bedford, T. (Timothy) 07 April 2009 (has links)
Abstract The aim of the research was to explore the possibilities and limitations to foster teacher empowerment and promote Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (GLBTQ) educational equity in schools. The context of the research was the GLBTQ Educational Equity (GLEE) Project funded by European Union (EU) during 1999–2002. Using an action research approach a Leadership Training Course (LTC) for teachers was developed with an international training team. The aim of the course was to empower teachers to develop action plans for their schools to promote GLBTQ equity. After the course teachers were supported in their actions by an internet-based support network called GLEENET. There was a LTC in 2000 and 2002 in Oulu, Finland. The starting point for developing an empowering pedagogy for the LTC was critical pedagogical theories. The results from the LTC along with the post-course actions were used to further develop the pedagogical theory, followed by another course and further theoretical development. The focus of the dissertation is on: (1) evaluating the empowerment of course participants, (2) developing principles of web-assisted transformative pedagogy, and (3) evaluating the methodological approach as a counter-heteronormative praxis. In addition, new tools for conceptualising empowerment are developed. There was evidence that the participants were empowered by the LTC, and that GLEENET after the course further empowered them. Following the LTC all the teachers engaged in some form of activism such as workshops for colleagues, curriculum development and student activities. Also, some of the participants carried out transnational projects funded by the EU. The first was the Inequality in School Project 2001–2002 and the second was the Towards an Inclusive School Project 2003–2006. Despite the empowerment of teachers and their actions to transform their schools, the research concluded that there were limitations. In particular, resistance and barriers were faced including opposition from headteachers and colleagues, as well as having a lack of time. There is a need for wider EU anti-discrimination legislation, action on the part of educational authorities, and pre and in-service teacher training to break down cultural and structural barriers to promoting GLBTQ educational equity. Kriittisen pedagogiikan teoriat olivat lähtökohtana LTC-kurssin voimauttavalle pedagogiikalle. Lisäksi jotkut osallistujat perustivat EU:n rahoittamia kansainvälisiä projekteja, joista ensimmäinen oli Inequality in School vuosina 2001–2002, ja toinen Towards an Inclusive School vuosina 2003–2006.

Povědomí o genderu a jeho reprezentace v dílech Virginie Woolfové z pohledu současného feminismu a genderové teorie / Gender Consciousness and Representation in Virginia Woolf's Writing in Light of Contemporary Feminism and Gender Theory

Hrbková, Martina January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to analyse Virginia Woolf's novels and non-fiction in light of several recent trends in feminism and gender theory relevant to her work. The thesis considers Woolf's label of a feminist writer from a contemporary perspective. It examines a variety of ways in which her writing poses a challenge to patriarchal values regarding the treatment and representation of women. Woolf's position regarding gender issues, women and feminism is not monolithic or unified which must be accounted for. At points, some of her stances can be seen as problematic from a present-day feminist perspective. At the same time, in her work she raises concerns which have been relevant for and expanded by proponents of contemporary feminism and gender theory. The thesis focuses on three areas regarding gender awareness and representation in Woolf's work. They are her narrative style, the sociopolitical context of her work and the questioning of gender categories. Woolf's narrative style and strategies are viewed in light of écriture féminine as conceptualised by Hélène Cixous. Through her manner of writing Woolf aimed to disrupt established ways of narrating women's experience. Her concept of the woman's sentence can be seen as foreshadowing écriture féminine. Apart from her style, Woolf's development as a...

De formade ögonbrynens ilska : Queer coding inom Disneys porträttering av manliga skurkar / Rage of the Plucked Eyebrows : Disney's Queer Coding

Hjertén, Alma, Alva Soplin, Betsy January 2018 (has links)
This study aims to examinehow and what Disney communicate to their target audience, by analyzing the four animated feature films Peter Pan (1953), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995), and Princess and the Frog (2009). The animated movies have been analyzed through a qualitative method to get a better understanding of how Disney portray their male antagonists through queer coding. Through semiotics, and Peter Dahlgren's approach to analyzing media texts, we have gained a deeper understanding of what Disney is communicating. The study shows that there are many obvious cases of queer coding because of the stereotypically feminine way that the male villains are portrayed. The villains show signs of this femininity through everything from facial features to bodily movements. Through this detailed analysis it has come to our attention, that there is no doubt that the villains are being portrayed in a much more feminine way in comparison to the remaining characters in the movies.

A representation in accordance with or against the normative? : A critical discourse analysis of norms related to sexuality and gender roles

Eliasson, Emmy January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate how gender roles and sexuality are represented in the novel Beatriz y los cuerpo celestes written by Lucía Etxebarria (1998) and how these representations are related to the normative. The method used is the critical discourse analysis. The essay is based on queer theory concerning heteronormativity, gender roles and stereotypes. The novel investigated is about Beatriz, a queer person from Madrid, and her thoughts on identity and sexuality. In the novel the protagonist have relationships with women as well as with a man. Even though the protagonist of the novel is a queer person  the results of the study show that the novel still present binary gender roles and heterosexuality as the norm.

Lyckas en inkluderande organisation inkludera? : En semiotisk analys av sexuella identiteter i RFSU:s reklamfilmer / Does an inclusive organization succeed in including? : A semiotic analysis of sexual identities in RFSU's commercials

Lanevik, Linnea, Lindblom, Jessica January 2021 (has links)
This bachelor thesis contains a study of how people who identify as homosexual, but also to some degree; people who identify as heterosexual, is portrayed in three commercials from RFSU, Swedish Association for Sexuality Education. RFSU is an established Swedish national organization working with questions regarding sexual education, contraceptives, abortion, sexuality, and human rights. The purpose of these three commercials is to encourage the usage of condoms and to deliver the importance of it but the intention is also to get people to buy their condoms. The purpose of this study is to examine how the representation and inclusion of homosexual people are portrayed in the selected commercials. The study also deals with similarities and differences between the commercials. A queer perspective and a semiotic method and its tools denotation, connotation, and myth are implemented in the analysis. The study shows that RFSU reproduce heteronormative structures, even though the extent of heteronormativity variegates and has altered in the three different commercials.

The relationship between a heteronormative culture and the affective reactions of homosexual employees

Els, Elizma 27 November 2012 (has links)
Regardless of the changes in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa No. 108. of 1996, in terms of the acceptance of individuals irrespective of their sexual orientation and the prohibiting of discrimination against anyone on the grounds of their sexual orientation, the concept of homosexuality in the workplace is still a relatively unexplored phenomenon in South Africa. Limited research studies focus on the perspectives of homosexual individuals regarding their perception and attitudes towards their working environments. Culture can affect the way in which individuals act due to the dominance of certain behaviours, beliefs, and norms that are accepted as the 'standard' way of living. Within companies, the employees are on average expected to be productive and effective, and to present fruitful behaviour to benefit the organisation. Individuals can also at times be tacitly encouraged to portray images according to the general norm in the organisation, whether or not this image is true to the individuals themselves. This type of accepted standard norms and behaviours are therefore wordlessly conveyed to the employees as the cultural accepted standard in the organisation. Heteronormative cultures are described as the instance when the accepted standard of male and female behaviour is viewed in terms of masculine men and feminine women. Individuals who do not fit these specific descriptions may experience either explicit or implicit discrimination. The reactions that employees can have because of organisational culture are referred to as affective reactions and can have adverse costs for the organisation as employees may engage in less productive behaviour. The purpose of this research was to assess the relationship between a heteronormative culture and the affective reactions of homosexual employees working in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Work engagement and job satisfaction of the individuals were assessed in relationship to heteronormativity. Research done for this study includes the various aspects of the academic topics related to the study. Given the limited amount of empirical research on the topic, a mixed method study was conducted. Quantitative questionnaires instigated the research, designed to measure the following concepts:<ul> <li> Organisational culture, in terms of heteronormativity.</li> <li> Two affective reactions of employees - work engagement and job satisfaction.</li></ul> Explanatory qualitative interviews followed the questionnaires with the intention of understanding the results found during the quantitative phase. A purposefully selected sample of one hundred and sixty four homosexual employees working in Johannesburg and Pretoria completed the quantitative questionnaire, and a sample of eight homosexual individuals were selected out of the original sample to participate in the qualitative interview stage. Previously developed instruments were used to measure heteronormativity, work engagement and job satisfaction. The results indicated that homosexual employees within Gauteng do experience the culture of their respective organisations to support the perceptions of heteronormativity. Two hypotheses were tested which indicated a significant but small correlation between perceptions of heteronormativity and work engagement and job satisfaction. The qualitative results provided insight into how homosexual employees experienced heteronormative cultures in the workplace as well as how they react to the cultures encountered. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Human Resource Management / unrestricted

Trans* identita a rodičovství v České republice / Trans* Identity and Parenting in the Czech Republic

Vostárková, Lucie January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with experiences and ideas of parenting trans*'s persons in the context of their identity. I primarily follow feminist theories and constructivist paradigm, where the research being realized through semi-structured interviews. In the theoretical part I define the basic terms and concepts on which my work is based. I focus on the conceptualization of trans* identities, on the concept of transsexuality in the Czech medical and socio-legal discourse, as well as on their limits in terms of gender perspective. Furthermore, I present the partnership and sexual relations of trans* persons, which then lead me to parenthood itself in the context of trans * identities. Finally, I deal with the coming-out process, especially with a focus on offspring. Within the analytical part I am interested in the attitude of trans* people to prevent reproductive function as the legal condition of gender transition, what reproductive ways and ways of parenting they choose, what obstacles they encounter in the context of parenthood and how they perform their parental role. Key words: gender, trans* identity, heteronormativity, coming out, homophobia, transphobia, limits of identity, parenting, parenting role, kids

Inclusivity in the English Classroom : A Study in Inclusivity, Focusing on Heteronormativity and Sexuality, in the English Courses 5-7 in Upper Secondary Schools

Winterkvist, Frida January 2020 (has links)
This student thesis project centers around two subjects, heteronormativity and LGBTQIA+ representation, and examines whether or not they are prominent in today’s schools in a smaller selected municipality in Sweden, if schools strive for inclusivity, and what is done to prevent any potential suffering for the LGBTQIA+ youth. Firstly, this student thesis project presents the theory, more specifically queer theory, that will be used as the basis for results analysis. Secondly, the background is presented with relevant previous research in similar areas where LGBTQIA+ themes or issues and heteronormativity are key elements. Thirdly, this student thesis project presents the questionnaire that eight upper secondary school teachers in English have responded to and what they have responded, followed by the results that consist of an analysis using the previous research. Lastly, this student thesis project concludes that many areas affect how and when LGBTQIA+ issues or questions are represented. One area is responsibility as responsibility appears to be put on teachers, Skolverket, and the students themselves for change to happen. Teachers must dare to include LGBTQIA+ issues or questions, and teachers urge Skolverket to assist in including LGBTQIA+ related topics in the steering documents. The students have a responsibility to take LGBTQIA+ issues or questions seriously as they are presented to them in class and allow themselves to ask questions to gain more knowledge in the area. There is room for improvement in terms of inclusivity as heteronormativity still influences the schools in the selected municipality, making LGBTQIA+-questions secondary and separate rather than a natural part of education.

Könsrollsanknutna förväntningar hos elever i gymnasieskolan : Hanteringsstrategier och konsekvenser

Ramquist, Lovisa January 2020 (has links)
