The aim of this study was to examine how two integrating social enterprises relate to and combines social, ecological and economic sustainability and how they work with sustainable development in the field of social work. The study has been focusing on three questions: What are the values underpinning “Macken” and “Vägen uts” approach to sustainable development? What motivates these companies to work with ecological sustainability in the creation of new jobs? How do these companies combine social, ecological and economic sustainability? To answer our questions we have been interviewing nine employees through semi-structured interviews combined with observations and this study was analysed through a symbolic perspective. The conclusion of this study showed that these companies worked with specific themes to reach social sustainability. Recurring themes in the study was empowerment, recovery and the employee’s own experience of exclusion. To achieve ecological sustainability the companies worked with recycling furniture and fabric as a way of creating new jobs. They also had ecological cafés and ecological cultivations. Furthermore the economical sustainability was displayed throw the reinvestment of the profit to hire more people to the companies.

Les communautés planctoniques des bactéries au macroplancton : dynamique temporelle en Mer Ligure et distribution dans l'océan global lors de l'expédition Tara Oceans. - Approche holistique par imagerie -

Le plancton constitue l’essentiel de la biomasse pélagique et est un acteur majeur des cycles biogéochimiques globaux qui régulent le système Terre. Il comprend l'ensemble des organismes portés par les courants, des bactéries aux méduses géantes. La communauté n'est que très rarement étudiée dans son ensemble mais plutôt par fraction. L’expédition Tara Oceans constitue le premier effort de collecte simultané de toutes les classes de taille de plancton à l’échelle de l’océan global. Pour démontrer la faisabilité de cette approche à grande échelle, des échantillons hebdomadaires de plancton, depuis les bactéries jusqu’au macroplancton gélatineux, ont d’abord été analysés en combinant plusieurs instruments d’imagerie sur une période de 10 mois, en un site de référence (point B) dans la rade de Villefranche sur mer. L’imagerie nous a permis de comparer 1) l’information fonctionnelle définie comme l’agrégation de taxons en 18 Groupes Ecologiques de Plancton (GEP), et 2) la structure en taille des communautés échantillonnées sur un intervalle de taille de 6 ordres de grandeur (0.1 µm à 10000 µm). La communauté planctonique au point B évolue en une succession écologique complexe impliquant tous les groupes planctoniques, depuis les bactéries jusqu’aux prédateurs gélatineux du macroplancton. Des évènements impulsifs, tels que des coups de vent, déclenchent des réorganisations de la communauté par un jeu d’interactions entre des contrôles « bottom-up » et « top-down ». Toutefois, le biovolume planctonique total ne varie que d’un seul ordre de grandeur au cours de la période échantillonnée. De même, la structure en taille des communautés planctoniques totales ne varie pas significativement au cours du temps. La stabilité du biovolume total et de la structure en taille suggère que des mécanismes structurant et de compensation forts maintiennent les communautés planctoniques dans un intervalle de biomasse restreint. Le couplage entre données de taille et de taxonomie révèle une réorganisation du réseau trophique entre l’été et l’hiver. En hiver, Le réseau trophique microplancton-zooplancton est dominé par la fonction de broutage. En été, le réseau trophique microplancton-zooplancton est dominé par la fonction de prédation (chaetognathes et gélatineux carnivores). En été, ce réseau trophique s’organise en deux chaines trophiques parallèles et distinctes discriminées par des relations de taille entre proies et prédateurs. Cette réorganisation souligne le rôle clef du zooplancton et de la prédation dans la structuration des communautés planctoniques. Parallèlement à cette analyse temporelle en un point fixe, nous avons montré l’existence de types caractéristiques de communautés zooplanctoniques, associés à des conditions environnementales distinctes, à partir des échantillons de l’expédition Tara Oceans, à l’échelle globale. En utilisant la même méthodologie que pour l’analyse de la dynamique temporelle, nous avons identifié trois types de communautés mésozooplanctoniques à l’échelle globale selon le type d’environement: 1) des communautés associées aux environnements productifs (upwellings côtiers et équatoriaux), 2) des communautés associées aux zones de minimum d’oxygène (OMZs, « Oxygen Minimum Zones »), et 3) des communautés associées aux gyres océaniques oligotrophes. Ce travail constitue une première typologie des communautés zooplanctoniques, structurées en taille et GEP, à l’échelle globale. Il sera complété dans le futur par l’intégration de données issus des autres compartiments planctoniques, et de données d’export vertical de matière organique particulaire pour affiner les estimations des relations qui existent entre phytoplancton, zooplancton et flux biogéochimiques. / Plankton constitutes the bulk of pelagic biomass and plays a major role in the global biogeochemical cycles that regulate the earth system. It encompasses all the organisms that drift with the water masses movements, from bacteria to giant medusae. Studies of the entire community are scarce, and plankton has been traditionally studied by fractions. The Tara Oceans expedition is the first attempt to simultaneously collect plankton in every size classes at the global scale. To demonstrate the feasibility of this approach, samples of plankton from bacteria to gelatinous macroplankton were collected weekly over ten months at a reference site (point B), in Villefranche Bay, northwestern Mediterranean, and analyzed using imaging techniques. Imaging enabled us to compare 1) the functional taxonomic information as derived from the analysis of 18 Plankton Ecological Groups (PEGs), and 2) the size structure of the same planktonic community over 6 orders of magnitude in size. The plankton dynamics at point B are driven by a complex succession process involving all plankton groups, from bacteria to macroplanktonic gelatinous predators. Environmental impulsive events such as wind events trigger sharp community level reorganizations via interplay of bottom-up controls followed by top-down controls. However, the total biovolume of the planktonic community varies within only one order of magnitude over the period studied. In addition, the size structure of the entire community does not vary significantly over time. The total biovolume and size structure stability suggest that strong and compensative mechanisms drive community dynamics within a narrow range of biomass variation. The use of both taxonomic and size structured data reveals a reorganization of the food web between winter and summer. In winter and spring the microplanktoniczooplanktonic food web is shaped by the grazing function. In summer, it is shaped by the predation function (chaetognaths and gelatinous predators). In summer, the food web self organizes in two distinct food chains discriminated by size relations between predators and preys. This reorganization underlines the key role of zooplankton and predation in structuring planktonic communities. In parallel to this temporal dynamics study, we used the Tara Oceans expedition samples to study the global scale distribution of mesozooplankton. We showed that characteristic mesozooplanktonic communities were associated with distinct environmental conditions, at the global scale. Using a similar methodology as for the temporal study we found that three different mesozooplanktonic communities were associated with 1) productive environments (e.g. upwellings), 2) Oxygen Minimum Zones, and 3) Oligotrophic oceanic gyres. This work is the first typology of mesozooplanktonic communities at the global scale. It will be further developed in the future by the integration of other planktonic compartments and particulate organic matter fluxes data, to improve our knowledge on the relations between phytoplankton, zooplankton and particulate organic matter fluxes.

Airport territory as interface : mobile work and travel in hybrid space

Global mobility, wireless technology and networked society are transforming the airport territory. These changes (hard factors) have been analysed in airport planning and transportation studies (Koll-Schretzenmayr 2003; Banister 2003; Schaafsma 2003; Knippenberger &Wall 2010; Salewski & Michaelli 2011; Convenz & Thierstein ed. 2014 et al) and architecture and design (Edwards 1998; Blow 2005; Cuadra 2002; Uffelen 2012; Gensler 2013 et al). But design strategies focusing on the passenger experience (soft factors) have not yet been thoroughly assimilated by architecture and design. On the theoretical level this dissertation spans the analysis of current methodologies in social studies (e.g. Castells 1996; Gottdiener 2000; Cresswell 2006; Urry, 2007; Elliott & Urry 2010; Adey 2010 et al) and their relation to architectural and urban studies concepts for the airport. The latter includes the “Airport as City” (Güller & Güller 2000), “Aviopolis – A Book about Airports” (Fuller & Harley 2005) and “Aerotropolis” (Kassarda 2010). This dissertation also explores IT and aviation industry interests at the interface between technology and air travellers. In this light aviation industry research and solutions (Amadeus 2011, SITA 2013) are important to consider, as well the philosophy behind who travels and for what purpose (Sloterdijk 1998; Koolhaas 1998; Gottdiener 2000; Urry 2007; Birtchnell & Caletrio 2014 et al). Here, the author’s previous field research at Frankfurt International Airport is relevant. We live more mobile lifestyles, we work in hybrid spaces (Suoza 2006; Duffy 2010 et al), and we consequently need to share information and collaborate differently. Using constant travellers as a case study, the impact of physical and informational mobility on perceptions of and behavioural patterns in the airport can lead to a deeper understanding of mobile work and the air travel experience. New design strategies can be developed from research about constant travellers, and the results may improve their work and air travel experience. The author’s combination of design approaches from architecture and social science (sociology and psychology) methodologies can better address the real needs of constant travellers in hybrid workspaces. It is hoped that this dissertation will inspire airport architects and designers, interaction designers and the aviation industry to pay more attention to users’ needs in their design processes.

The indigenous law of contract with particular reference to the Swazi in the Kingdom of Swaziland

This study was undertaken to establish whether the legal phenomenon known as a contract exist in indigenous legal systems and in particular, among the Swazi. As the underlying aims and consequences of indigenous contracts differ not only between indigenous peoples but is also affected by the degree of westernisation that has taken place, a micro study has been done in semi-rural areas in the Kingdom of Swaziland to establish if the existing value systems are altered or replaced when western legal institutions are introduced. Data was obtained by way of interviewing a panel of experts and compared with available literature. Through the process of gathering information, the legal principles were described and the functioning of social processes noted. Different indigenous contracts and general principles were identified. It must, however, be noted that a contract is more than a device for establishing the economic and legal implications of a transaction. Most contractual disputes are resolved outside the courts through negotiated settlements to restore harmony in the community. Although the Swazi law of contract is showing clear signs of adapting to new developments, there is proof that established legal principles and Swazi values are being retained. This study will not only be useful as a source of information for both Swazi courts and administration, but could also serve as a basis for codification intended by the Swazi Government. For that purpose, a memorandum has been compiled for consideration by the Swazi authorities. The compatibility of Swazi law and custom with a Bill of Rights was also evaluated and suggestions were made for possible law reform in the Kingdom of Swaziland. / Jurisprudence / LL.D.

Therapeutic techniques for treatment of adolescents with rebellious behaviour

This study focuses on the therapeutic interventions by mental health practitioners when faced with rebellious youths. Rebelliousness refers to the act of defying lawful authority or a resistant way of relating to authority or convention. It is manifested in, amongst others, withdrawal, deviance, delinquency, antisocial behaviour, and suicide. To date there are no interventions for rebellious youths per sé. Rebellious youths are often treated with traditional strategies which are often ineffective and show little promise for eliminating rebellious behaviour. Research has revealed that teen problem behaviours stem from "life-problems" such as psychosocial stressors. Therefore treating the adolescent for substance abuse, for example, is treating him/her for the wrong reasons. It is no surprise that many adolescents who have undergone intervention programmes for specific behaviour problems relapse soon after they are released from the programmes. The study focuses on integrating different strategies in order to combat rebelliousness in adolescence and beyond. This holistic approach argues that all treatments share certain curative processes. Therefore each treatment works best when it is combined with other aspects of treatment. For this reason, individual, family and group therapy were combined together with school strategies. The results of this study indicate that combining procedures that are designed to improve problematic behaviour in teenagers are viable forms of treatment. / Educational Studies / D.Ed.(Psychology of Education)

Coaches’ experiences of working with RIU dual career athletes / Tränares upplevelser av att arbeta med studentidrottare som studerar vid ett Riksidrottsuniversitet

The purpose of the study was to examine coaches’ experiences of working with RIU (Riksidrottsuniversitet)-dual career (DC) athletes with foci on the coaches’ DC awareness, perceived challenges, resources, and strategies. The authors of this study conducted 9 interviews, including both men and women, ranging from 23 to 54 years of age (M=33.33, SD=10.20). Through combining the holistic athletic career model (Wylleman, 2019) and the athletic career transition model (Stambulova, 2003), semistructured interview guides were designed and applied by the authors. The results showed a lack of awareness regarding what the RIU concept entailed for the coaches, and their greatest challenge was to help their athletes remain focused on their practice. The coaches expressed that the most important resources were the coaches’ own professional support network, as well as the athletes’ support network, which would aid the coaches in their work. The coaches had difficulties with articulating what strategies they utilized when helping their student-athletes, though they could still explain situations in which that they had acted in certain ways to help ease the demands for the DC-athlete. These strategies were “planning together with the athlete” and “adjusting schedules in line with the student-athletes demands”. The results of the study highlight the need for a better communication between the coaches and the schools, in terms of optimizing the environment for the student-athletes. / Syftet med studien var att undersöka tränares upplevelser av att arbeta med studentidrottare, med fokus på deras upplevda utmaningar, resurser och strategier. Författarna till uppsatsen genomförde nio intervjuer, vilket inkluderade både män och kvinnor från 23 till 54 års ålder (M = 33,33, SD = 10,20). Genom att kombinera Holistiska karriärutvecklingmodellen (Wylleman, 2019) och Karriärövergångsmodellen (Stambulova, 2003) designades semistrukturerade intervjuguider av författarna. Resultaten visade brist på insikt i RIU (Riksidrottsuniversitet) konceptet från tränarna och deras största utmaning var att hjälpa idrottare att behålla sitt fokus under träningarna. Tränarna uttryckte att den viktigaste resursen var tränarnas egna professionella stödnätverk, tillsammans med idrottarnas egna stödnätverk, vilket bidrog till att tränarna kunde behålla fokus på sin egen uppgift. Tränarna hade svårigheter att formulera de strategier som de använde sig av när de hjälpte sina studentidrottare. Dock, kunde de fortfarande förklara situationer när de hade agerat på särskilda sätt för att hjälpa underlätta kraven för studentidrottaren. Dessa strategier var “planering tillsammans med idrottaren” och “anpassa scheman i enlighet med studentidrottarens krav”. Resultaten av uppsatsen önskar belysa att det behövs en bättre kommunikation mellan tränaren och skolorna för att kunna optimera miljön för studentidrottare.

Inom matematikdidaktik beskrivs matematisk modellering som en process bestående av olika delprocesser. Forskare inom området menar att ett holistiskt förhållningssätt behövs i undervisningen för att alla delprocesser i modelleringsprocessen ska kunna utvecklas. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka kursplaners synliggörande (intended curriculum) av olika delprocesser vid matematisk modellering med differentialekvationer i svenska lärosätens ämneslärarprogram för gymnasiet med matematik som huvudämne. För att analysera kursplanerna används ett teoretiskt ramverk formulerat av Blomhøj & Jensen (2003). Resultatet visar stora skillnader i vilka delprocesser som synliggörs. Från nästan alla kursplaner som analyserades kunde man tydligt utläsa att i kursplanen synliggjordes delprocesser om matematisering av modelleringsproblem samt undersökning och lösning av uppkomna matematiska problem, medan andra delprocesser som speglar identifiering av ett verklighetsnära modelleringsproblem och tolkning av beräkningsresultatsynliggörs i mycket liten utsträckning. Delprocessen om analys av modellens giltighet synliggjordes i några enstaka kursplaner. En slutsats är att alla delprocesser inte synliggörs i kursplaner för matematikkurser i ämneslärarprogram för gymnasiet som behandlar modellering med differentialekvationer. Studien belyser behov av fortsatt forskning inom området, till exempel av det tillämpade genomförandet eller det uppnådda kursresultatet. / In mathematics education, mathematical modelling is described as a process consisting of different sub-processes. Researchers in the area believe that a holistic approach needs to be included in teaching where all sub-processes in the modelling process can be developed. The aim of this study is to investigate the visibility of different sub-processes in mathematical modelling in curricula (intended curriculum) with differential equations for Swedish teachers’programme with mathematics as core subject. To analyse the curricula, a theoretical framework formulated by Blomhøj & Jensen (2003) is used. The results show that there is a difference in the visibility of the sub-processes. From almost all curricula that were analysed, sub-processes on mathematization of modelling problems and investigation and solution of emerging mathematical problems could be clearly seen, while other sub-processes such as identification of a realistic modelling problem, interpretation and analysis of results could be seen to a lesser extent. The sub-process of analysing the validity of modelswas visible in a few curricula. Hence possible conclusions can be drawn, one is that curricula in modelling with differential equations for Swedish secondary education teacher programme in mathematics do not showcase all modellingsub-processes. The thesis highlights further need in studies of the implemented and attained curricula.

Repenser la conscience collective et la transformation sociale à travers la pratique du yoga

La conscience et les structures mentales collectives d’une société sont ancrées dans des normes et des cadres sociopolitiques, culturels et historiques dont certains l’orienteraient vers des conditions produisant de la violence et de l'inégalité. Il est donc nécessaire d'examiner minutieusement ce qui a conduit à un ensemble de normes qui provoquent l'inégalité sociale et l'injustice dans une société. L'une des hypothèses de ce mémoire est que la pratique du yoga pourrait contribuer à une transformation sociale menant à la justice. En outre, une transformation vers la justice sociale peut se produire en remontant la séquence d'événements causés par ces structures mentales afin de problématiser l'injustice à ses racines. Une telle transformation doit reconditionner les cadres de pensée et permettre une conscience inconditionnelle, où l'inégalité et les structures binaires n'existent plus. Ainsi, la question principale de cette recherche est la suivante: comment la pratique du yoga peut-elle contribuer à identifier et à réformer les structures mentales et les normes sociales de telle sorte qu'elle mène à l'égalité et à la justice sociale? La pratique du yoga qui transforme les individus par l'identification, le déconditionnement et le reconditionnement de leurs structures mentales est un affinement progressif de la conscience individuelle - qui fait aussi partie de la conscience collective - qui rend la conscience collective plus sensible aux structures sociopolitiques qui doivent être refondées en direction de la justice sociale. Ceci sera discuté en relation avec la perspective holistique du yoga qui est à la base de la philosophie yogique. Pour aborder cette question, ce mémoire s'appuie sur les points spirituels et pratiques du Yoga Sutra de Patanjali, les enseignements de B.K.S. Iyengar sur la pratique du yoga, et les perspectives socio-politiques de The Force of Nonviolence de Judith Butler. / In a society the collective consciousness and mental structures are rooted in cultural and historical norms as well as in socio-political frameworks. Some of these norms can shape mental structures in such ways that they produce violence and inequality. It is therefore necessary to scrutinize what has led to a set of norms that cause social inequality and injustice in a society. One of the hypothesis in this thesis, is that the practice of yoga could contribute to a social transformation that leads to justice. In addition, a transformation towards social justice may occur by tracing back the sequence of events caused by these mental structures in order to problematize injustice at its roots. Such transformation has to recondition thought frames and enable an unconditional consciousness, in which inequality and binary structures no longer exist. Thus, the main question of this research is: how can yoga practice contribute to identifying and reforming mental structures and social norms in such ways that it leads to equality and social justice? The yoga practice that transforms individuals through the identification, deconditioning, and reconditioning of their mental structures is a progressive refinement of individual consciousness - as part of the collective consciousness - that makes the collective consciousness more sensitive to socio-political structures that need to be transformed toward social justice. This will be discussed in relation to the holistic perspective of yoga that is the basis of yoga philosophy. To approach its main question, this thesis draws on the spiritual and practical points of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, B.K.S. Iyengar's teachings on yoga practice, and the socio-political perspectives of Judith Butler's The Force of Nonviolence.

This research is undertaken to set Gestaltplaytherapeutic guidelines with a pastoral perspective for the therapeutic intervention of the primary school child who is experiencing loss due to the death of a loved one. The study consulted relevant literature and compared the literature study with experience acquired in practice. The impact of the loss that the child is experiencing has an influence on the child as a whole. The researcher has found that the Christian child's experience of loss due to the death of a loved one is influenced greatly by the child's spiritual experience. A practical theological study of community pastoral work : an ecosystemic perspective

Chapter 1 describes practical theology as a communicative operational science and stresses how important it is that a hermeneutical and narrative approach compliments it. It is shown that pastoral work must be launched from the church community. The premise is that the Enlightenment paradigm causes a reductionistic, individualistic and denominational approach to pastoral work. A holistic, comprehensive and ecologically orientated approach is proposed. Chapter 2 discusses the need for an ecosystemic approach as a metaparadigrn for practical theology in terms of the move away from the Newtonian view of science and the post-modem critiques of a technocratic society. This is supported by developments in systemic family therapy, constructionism and community psychology. Chapter 3 describes an interrelated ecclesiology as a base theory for practical theology and pastoral work with reference to the church's interrelation with society and the need to include an anthropology as part of an ecclesiology. This interrelationship implies that the serving (diakonia) and caring (koinonia) functions of the church should converge, forming a diaconal pastorate. In chapter 4 the secularised modem world-vie\v and the traditional African world-view, both functioning in South Africa, are employed to shed light upon the importance of the concept community for the church's pastoral work. The term community is broadened to include the idea of networking, emphasisingg that community is more than geographical proximity. Chapter 5 is a quantitative investigation. by means of a questionnaire, of the views (ecosystemic/non-ecosystemic) of pastoral workers regarding the church and of pastoral work. Chapter 6 discusses the implications of a community pastoral work approach. Pastoral work has a serving-caring role, but should also function prophetically, to conscientise. sensitise and empower people. The church as a healing community must become the springboard from which pastoral actions can face the challenge of AIDS (chapter 7).
