KLIMATKALKYLER I PROJEKTERING : Byggnadskonstruktörens möjligheter och utmaningar

Sund, Amanda, Stålheim, Ida January 2020 (has links)
Sweden is facing a major change, having zero net emission of greenhouse gases in 2045. This brings major challenges to the building industry, as it alone is accountable for almost a fifth of these gases today. The focus has been reducing climate impact in the operational phase for a long time, but with more renewable energy in the energy mix, the construction phase stands for almost half of the emissions in the for a building’s whole life cycle of a building. The concrete industry has a heavy role in this. In 2019, the cement industry came in second place over those with the heaviest emissions in Sweden and is, therefore a major contribution to the negative climate impact. Today, there are methods for reduced climate impact which can be applied, such as construction optimization or use of life cycle analyzes in the design phase but are not used in the desired extent. For example, climate-enhanced concrete is on the market but is not yet the most common option. This study has been carried out with the aim and goal of increasing the understanding of how the design engineer can contribute to reducing climate impact in the construction industry. The aim is to describe the designer's challenges and opportunities in technology and process to use climate calculation tools in the design phase, and how designers, with the help of climate calculations, can contribute to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the construction industry. The study is divided into two connected sub-studies. First sub-study is called "Sub-study 1: Interview study" and the second is called "Sub-study 2: Software testing". In sub-study 1, an interview study was conducted at the engineering consultant AFRY. Six design engineers have been interviewed as well as two environmental consultants. The interview study has answered questions such as how climate work applies in the business today, construction optimization and what is missing for the designers to calculate climate impact in their daily work. In sub-study 2, the climate calculation tools “Byggsektorns miljöberäkningsverktyg BM1.0 and One Click LCA have been tested. A test with ordinary concrete types, as well as a test where the ordinary concrete type has been replaced by climate-improved concrete, has been carried out to see what the difference could be. In both tools, a simplified life cycle analysis has been performed for a concrete frame in the construction phase. Both tools have been evaluated according to a number of criteria’s, about climate calculations, to highlight how different tools can be used. The results from the interview study show that the designers demand time and money from the customer and from the organization, as well as more training in the subject and the climate tools that can be used. The result for BM1.0 was only a small improvement of 160 tonnes of CO2e and in One Click LCA there was a total difference of about 344 tonnes of CO2e. Both tools have been evaluated according to several points and none of the tools succeeded in meeting all the study's desired criteria. For BM1.0, there is no integration with a BIM tool and the program only considers the environmental impact category; climate impact. For One Click LCA, it is not possible to import EPDs, but the user must use generic values or already entered EPDs from the database of the tool. However, both tools are considered good for being able to carry out simplified climate calculations in the design phase. However, the user must have a good analytical ability if he or she is to consider only a few categories of environmental impact.

UTREDNING AV ARBETSMETOD FÖR KONSTRUKTÖRER VID BERÄKNING AV MODELL / INVESTIGATION OF WORK METHOD FOR DESIGN ENGINEERS IN MODEL CALCULATION

Henriksson, Elin, Eckhoff, Niclas January 2017 (has links)
Although BIM today is a well-known practice, there are shortcomings, mainly within interoperability and communication. It is relevant to seek solutions through new work methods and not just through new technical solutions. There are difficulties in implementing new work methods, as the industry is known to be routine based.  The aim of the study is to clarify the need for increased efficiency in the design process in terms of model calculations, to investigate the possibilities for an improved work method for construction engineers.  To reach the goal, the data collection methods interview and literature study have been chosen. This have been chosen, in order to portray the reality of the business community as well as current research within the chosen problem area.  The study has generated factors, such as: a more frequent information exchange reduces the risk of information loss. Using standardised details as support for reporting provides the ability to mediate preservation of collective experience.  Interoperability can reduce double modelling (which today is a time-consuming part of the workflow). Using the model in more parts of the process as the model has great potential for this since it contains a lot of information. These factors can contribute to increased efficiency of the construction process in terms of model calculations.  The size of the company is not the only thing that factors in when dividing work load. Clear dialogue between disciplines can create better conditions at the start of projects. By connecting more of the design details to the model it can be used in several stages, such as in the inspection phase. For the development of the preservation of experience, a library of construction details for support in design is recommended. Another recommendation is to start the collaboration between the construction engineer and the architect at an earlier stage, to facilitate their work processes.  The results of the study are nationally applicable. The factors relating to efficiency in cost, time and quality have only been studied briefly. The interview methodology applied to the study limits the generalizability when interpretation of opinions is carried out.

Persson, Moa, Sjölander, Hanna January 2017 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to identify communication problems in the planning process between the architect and the structural engineers in building framework of wood and concrete structures in multi-storey buildnings and investigate the causes of these problems. Wooden frames in multi-storey buildings is on rising and challenges the dominant concrete frames. Difficulties in cooperation between disciplines can not be underresimated, especially in complex projects. Communication is a complex process and the key to project performace. Method: The study consists of a qualitative approach. The used methods are interviews and literature studies. The interview method is based on people's experiences and opinions. The interviewed respondents are architects and structural engineers, all of whom have worked in planning process of both concrete and wooden frames. Literature studies have contributed to a deeper understanding of the subject as well as information about the current research front. Findings: Misunderstandings in written communication and undocumented conversations are communication problems that most of the architects and structural engineers experienced. Communication problems are caused by lack of time and stress. Collaboration between the various disciplines can be adversely affected when there is no understanding of the other parties. The communication problems that have been experienced in the planning process are general and usually not affected by the choice of frame. Lack of knowledge, on the other hand, has been perceived as an additional communication problem regarding the planning process of wooden multi-storey buildings. Experience is a reason for this. Differences in communication are not affected by the choice of frame, however the communication frequency has increased. Implications: To achieve effective communication in the planning process meetings with protocol are to prefer. The lack of knowledge in the construction of high-rise buildings in wooden frames are based on the difficulty of finding experience. An increased communication frequency has been a fact because the innovation of wood frames. Future recommendations are to investigate and propose solutions to the communication problems and implement solutions to the industry. Limitations: The results of the study are limited to the architects and the structural engineers perspectives although the planning process in fact involves more parties. Collected data is based on the respondents personal opinions and experiences, therefore the results can not be determined as a general perception for all those with the same profession. Keywords: Architect, constructor, communication, planning process, wooden frame, concrete frame, communication problem, multi-storey house.

Från CAD till BIM inom småhusindustrin / From CAD to BIM within the home building industry

Hansen, Fredrik, Palmquist, Jesper January 2015 (has links)

En modern projekteringsprocess : Utveckling av en effektiv arbetsmetod för konstruktörer vid projektering med BIM-verktyg / A modern structural design process : Development of an effective work method for structural engineers during the design process with BIM-tools

Andersson, Dennis, Wirenstrand, Martin January 2013 (has links)
The development of BIM has in recent years gained momentum and many countries, including Sweden, have begun a process towards common structure in the sector of construction by standardizing information and processes (Nilsson, 2013). This development provides new opportunities for participants in the process of construction but also problems when the intensive IT- development meets a seemingly conservative industry (Statskontoret, 2009:6). The aim of this thesis is to design a modernized working process for the structural engineer that integrates BIM tools in the design process. An understanding of how the constructional engineer's work looks today is determined, and the possibilities and difficulties that the designer is experiencing. The findings in this study were that, despite the intensive development of BIM in recent years traditional processes are still applied, since an understanding of a higher initial effort does not yet exist. Increased demands are also put on the structural engineer's technical competence in structural engineering since it´s harder to "cheat" in the object-based models. The qualitative study demonstrated a conservative approach where the development of the structural engineer's role by means such as finished components from different vendors in Tekla Structures was seen as more problematic than beneficial. It also emerged that the most effort should be in the coordination of the project, in which more than clash detector tests should be taken into consideration and that the review should take place at an earlier stage and performed more consistently. In the practical use of Tekla Structures several opportunities to review and coordinate a project was found. The need for standardized BIM as concretized in the theory section was also confirmed by the respondents in terms of the desire for a common structure in the models. The work resulted in a working model for how the structural engineer should work with BIM and the conditions requested to allow this approach. An important part of this is to define a well-structured and clear way of working that is achieved through clear goals. Central to each BIM project is to appoint a BIM Coordinator whose task is following up the work towards the defined goals and ensuring united design among the workers. BIM requires a comprehensive understanding of the design to meet the new requirements.

Communication and cooperation in a construction project : How do we intrepret each other?

Edman, Robert, Lunde, Christopher January 2014 (has links)
The construction industry is considered to be a conservative industry both in technology and forms of cooperation. The immense pressure on the construction industry and the large number of construction projects that are currently being undertaken in a number of complications arise. This may be due to time constraints, skill shortages and cooperation problems. In some projects the cooperation between the project partners works very well, but in too many projects the collaboration between the parties is inadequate. This can result in "unnecessary" financial and or timing implications. In society today, communication is the key to a successful cooperation. Even in the construction industry communication are highlighted as a key to a successful project. The industry is in a position where this debate is interesting but not yet being highlighted. Our goal with this study is to bring this debate and examine how cooperation between the parties really works, why it works/does not work and how it might be improved. The thesis examines the interplay between the four actors Client, Project Manager/Construction Manager, project planning Consultant and Contractor to investigate what sometimes creates this lack of communication and cooperation problems. Through interviews and empirical studies, we have created an impression of how the parties perceive cooperation and communication in past and current projects. What have they missed? How do they work? How would they like to work together and develop communication for the better? As a mainstay of the interviews, an electronic survey carried out in which 113 responses recorded, processed, analyzed. Those who had access to the electronic survey are companies where the interviews made and officers from an additional ten different companies of varying size and turnover. Based on the interviews and the electronic survey, we can conclude that the general perception to other parties on a construction project is very good with a few reservations. Along the issue we did initially, we can now conclude that the contract form is less important for communication and collaboration in a project. However, we have concluded that there are certain keywords in order to achieve good communication and good cooperation in a project. The key words we've come up with is: the start of a project, shared goals, personal chemistry, decisiveness, clarity, and knowledge.

Engberg, Niclas, Nordlöv, Marcus January 2021 (has links)
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the construction industry in Sweden has been forced to accelerate the digitalization process, which has contributed to an increased use of digital tools and teleworking. Previous research in the subject indicates both positive and negative consequences of teleworking and recurring factors are the work environment, communication, knowledge sharing and technology. The study examines how designers at a medium-sized construction company in Sweden are affected within the aspects of efficiency and quality in the transition to telework and whether it is a suitable working method to use permanently in the future or not. To answer the questions in this study, the authors have chosen to use an interview method to examine the experience of telework and a data collection to check the effectiveness and quality. The interview method in the study is a semi-structured interview with five selected designers at the company that participated in this study. The collection of data for the study was given from the company's internal time reporting system, quality documents from the company’s subcontractors and a supplementary survey. The respondents in the study felt that the designers’ efficiency was reduced, which do not correspond with statistical data in the study. The results show that efficiency has increased and the quality of the designers' documents is equivalent in the transition to telework. The authors' assessment after the implementation of the study is that teleworking is a good working method to apply if it is an optional complement for the designers. A permanent transition to teleworking can mean that the designers experience a reduced affiliation to the company, less fellowship with other employees, a more difficult communication and impaired knowledge sharing, which in the long run can affect the efficiency and quality of the designers' documents.

Verktygslådan : Effektivisering av projekteringsskedet med hjälp av en tilläggsfunktion i Revit / The toolbox : Increased efficiency of the planning stage by using an additional function in Revit

Atabas, Burak, Unlu, Busra January 2017 (has links)
For more time and cost efficient projects, the construction industry needs to develop modern and integrated working methods. The preparation of construction documents is now in transition from 2D (AutoCAD) to 3D (Revit) modelling with an aim to streamline the workflow. This study aims to streamline the construction designing and planning stages by implementing specific commands that are adapted for Revit. The function of these commands is to provide complete structural components. These components will reduce the time to complete a construction drawing set compared to a traditional 2D method. Qualitative studies were conducted in the form of interviews with construction engineers. The interviews were based on different sub-areas that affect different parts of the planning stages. Based on these interviews, the toolbox was designed, containing the previously mentioned commands. Some conclusions that have been drawn after the study completion are that the construction industry is in need for a change, and that the building sector requires a systematic and united working method to streamline work methodology. In addition to the reduction of time and additional costs, this tool will reduce the frustration that may arise in the search of building components using traditional methods.

Användandet av Level of Development vid projektering : En kvalitativ studie avseende effektivisering av projekteringsprocessen för konstruktörer / The use of Level of Development in planning : A qualitative study regarding the efficiency of the design process for structural engineers

Andersson, Simon, Sundén, Olof January 2019 (has links)
