Agamben's Aesthetic Framework and the Published Poetry of the Artist-PoetRozenberg, Sebastian January 2020 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is to formulate a practical aesthetic framework from Giorgio Agamben’s writings, and to use his concepts as an interpretative tool in relation to certain aspects of poetry in contemporary art. The specific category of printed poetry by artists is studied from a meta perspective, looking primarily at the gesture performed by writing poetry as an artist. A selective history of poetry in art looks at Marcel Broodthaers and the Bernadette Corporation, including the ways in which they can clarify the aesthetics of Agamben, followed by a shorter interpretations of three contemporary artist-poets – Karl Larsson, Karl Holmqvist and Hanne Lippard. These works can be defined as a hybrid third with Agamben, not art, but making the absence of art present. Works that are neither poetry nor art but with the availability and potential for both. An aesthetic terminology from Agamben is an aesthetics of privation and potential, of absence and inoperability, as well as an aesthetics of negation and resistance. A framework for looking at the tension between activity and passivity, and the resistance present there. The concept of potentiality also proves to be a fruitful opening for the interpretation of art leaning toward negation or withdrawal.

Topi - How can we ease allergy vaccination for children in the age of 5-12?Larsson, Caroline January 2017 (has links)
30% of children and youths in Sweden have some form of allergy disease and for many people medicines are not sufficient. If so, there is a possibility of an allergy vaccination, a three to five-year process where the patients receive 50-80 injections. So what is the main problem? In fact, it is important to understand that the vaccination is something that affects the child in greater extent than just the moment when the syringe is provided. At present, the patient must stay to ensure that he/she does not get an allergic reaction and is feeling well enough to go home. They are constantly questioned about how they feel. But how does a child determine this? How good is good enough? Topi is a system that increases the involvement and transfer responsibilities from the child by keeping track of their well-being and surroundings - while making treatments more fun and safe. The project is funded by Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association´s Research Foundation

Från Japan till Sundborn : En undersökning av Karin Larssons textilier / From Japan to Sundborn : A study of Karin Larssons textilesWinther, Leslie January 2020 (has links)
The present essay explores artworks of Karin Larsson through the feminist theoretical field of studies. The following three textile works were in the centre of the study, Kärlekens ros, Duk med tecken and Sashiko-gardin. The connection between japonisme, Japanese inspired art, and Karin Larssons art works were studied. Through feminist theories by art historians such as Linda Nochlin and Griselda Pollock the experience of being a woman in the 1800s affected the works of Karin Larsson were discussed. It was found that Karin Larssons upbringing and education as a woman differs from the usual male art student, which affected her art works. The subjects of her art works were also often the result of personal experiences. Furthermore, a correlation between the art works and Japanese woodblocks and Japanese embroidery techniques were identified.

Trilogie Milénium v žánrových proměnách / The Millennium trilogy in the genre transformationsHofmanová, Petra January 2016 (has links)
In the thesis I would like to focus on the very topical literary work: Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson who died in 2004. The trilogy consists of three parts: The girl with the dragon tattoo, The girl who played with fire and The girl who kicked the hornets' nest. The trilogy will be examined from the perspective of genre determination. With the professional literature I would like to describe each genre and it's possibility of use. I would also like to find a typical features of particular genre in different forms: situations, characters, conflicts, etc. One part of my thesis will be dedicated to the writer and his autobiography traits. I would also like to turn to the fourth part of the trilogy by David Lagercrantz. I will try to answer the question why the trilogy has been extended, what literature genre is characteristic for the writer and what changes have been made in content or formal features of the story. During my work I would like to compare the trilogy with other Nordic literature pieces to find the cause of increasing sale of this kind of literature nowadays.

Obraz a proměny společenské kritiky ve vybraných dílech švédské detektivky / The image and transformation of social critique in selected works of Swedish Crime FictionVšetečková, Andrea January 2020 (has links)
(in English): The thesis deals with the topic of social criticism across the genre of detective stories from the 1960s in Sweden. The theoretical part describes how social criticism is constituted in this genre and how it contributes to its specificity. Based on a selected cross-section of five works, it presents not only the various topics which these authors work with, but also the changes in this critique over time. The analyzed works are: The Man on the Balcony (1968) by Sjöwall and Wahlöö, who establish this genre with clear social criticism, the first part of the trilogy Millennium The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2008) by Stieg Larsson, who, according to many experts, successfully completes this era, The Stone Cutter (2008) by Camilla Läckberg, The Sandman (2012) by Lars Kepler and Those Who Failed (2015) by the duo Hjorth and Rosenfeldt, that is the works by three contemporary authors of this genre.

Hyperspectral Image Analysis Algorithm for Characterizing Human TissueWondim, Yonas kassaw January 2011 (has links)
AbstractIn the field of Biomedical Optics measurement of tissue optical properties, like absorption, scattering, and reduced scattering coefficient, has gained importance for therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Accuracy in determining the optical properties is of vital importance to quantitatively determine chromophores in tissue. There are different techniques used to quantify tissue chromophores. Reflectance spectroscopy is one of the most common methods to rapidly and accurately characterize the blood amount and oxygen saturation in the microcirculation. With a hyper spectral imaging (HSI) device it is possible to capture images with spectral information that depends both on tissue absorption and scattering. To analyze this data software that accounts for both absorption and scattering event needs to be developed. In this thesis work an HSI algorithm, capable of assessing tissue oxygenation while accounting for both tissue absorption and scattering, is developed. The complete imaging system comprises: a light source, a liquid crystal tunable filter (LCTF), a camera lens, a CCD camera, control units and power supply for light source and filter, and a computer. This work also presents a Graphic processing Unit (GPU) implementation of the developed HSI algorithm, which is found computationally demanding. It is found that the GPU implementation outperforms the Matlab “lsqnonneg” function by the order of 5-7X.At the end, the HSI system and the developed algorithm is evaluated in two experiments. In the first experiment the concentration of chromophores is assessed while occluding the finger tip. In the second experiment the skin is provoked by UV light while checking for Erythema development by analyzing the oxyhemoglobin image at different point of time. In this experiment the melanin concentration change is also checked at different point of time from exposure. It is found that the result matches the theory in the time dependent change of oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin. However, the result of melanin does not correspond to the theoretically expected result.

Omslag till böcker och DVD-filmer : en jämförande studie av visuell kommunikation i omslagen till Män som hatar kvinnor och Niceville / Covers of Books and DVD-movies : a Comparing Study of Visual Communication in the Covers of Män som hatar kvinnor and NicevilleLundgren, Helena January 2012 (has links)
This thesis is about covers of books and DVD movies. I have tried to find out if the visual communication of the covers differs between the book and movie with the same story. Do they appeal to different target groups? I have also been trying to find out what designers can do to increase the visibility of covers among others. Are there certain rules to follow for making a cover visible? To reach a conclusion I have been studying components in advertising pictures, since covers work as a kind of advertiser for the product. I have also been studying visual communication and how designers use advertising pictures to communicate with the observer. Semiotics, advertising and comparisons between the covers have been my method for analyze. I have come to the colclusion that covers of books and DVD movies do communicate in different ways and partly to different target groups. There are certain rules to follow if you want to increase the visibility of a picture among others. The results indicate that the book covers have an older target group than the DVD covers.

Läraren skapas : – en romans premisser och hur dessa använts för att skapa en textuell helhet / The teacher is created : – a novel's premises and how it has been used to create a textual wholeEghammer, Patric January 2015 (has links)
This essay concerns on how my novel The Teacher was influenced by the Masters course I completed in Creative Writing at Linnaeus University (2012 – 2014). Basically, The Teacher is about a love affair between a teacher and a student. With an intertextual, comparative and structurally inspired method I examine the process of writing my text. I also examine how my work relates to the great changes of the Swedish school system in the early 1990:s: deregulation, decentralisation and management by objectives. These changes are satirised in the novel. The essay also deals the role of the city in its time, the school in its town, contemporary literary texts with corresponding thematic, the moral values in their time and overall existential questions about responsibility, guilt, acceptance, non-judgmental attitudes, forgiveness and being in the present moment. The examining part of the essay shows how these premises get a concrete expression in the main conflict, main theme, characterization, narrative and stylistic choices. The essay clarifies the satirical point of view that turns The Teacher into an ironical reflection on the Swedish school system after the so-called “kommunaliseringen” (communities taking over from the state). The essay also clarifies how grown ups abdicate from responsibility in the Swedish society and how people judge each other and cling to roles. For that reason The Teacher is relevant within its time but also and even more since it is about recurring existential questions about responsibility and non-judgmental attitudes.

To portray the beautiful, exotic and feminine land of cheap export : How Sweden imagined Japan during Japonism, from 1858 to 1914Ingemarsson, Hugo January 2021 (has links)
This master thesis explores the image of Japan in the artistic creations during Japonism in Sweden. Japan and Sweden first started trading in 1868 and knowledge about Japan in Sweden were limited at best. With the emergence of the Western art movement known as Japonism, ranging from 1858 to 1914, fascination for the unknown country grew in Europe. As the art movement Japonism became the first era of interest of Japan in Sweden, the portrayal and subsequent image of the country that emerged during this time is of interest to examine, as to better understand how Japan was imagined by Sweden. Herein, this study aims to analyse the portrayal of Japan in artworks from Swedish artists during Japonism in order to examine what components and ideas composed the image of Japan conveyed during Japonism. A collection of visual artworks depicting Japanese elements, based on Japonism associated artists and creators, have been collected using digital archives and databases to assess what is depicted and how by the creators. Japanese elements, such as objects, clothes, people and landscapes were subsequently analysed using a visual analysis based on researcher Jules David Prown’s three-step method of analysing historical objects. Using the concept of the image, as defined by scholar Torsten Burgman, as the basis of the analysis the depictions of Japanese elements are examined and categorised into several larger and smaller components. The examination is conducted within a framework of ethnocentrism and orientalism to contextualise the image of Japan with the thought structures in 19th century Sweden, as the creators portrayed Japan from both a Swedish and Western Eurocentric colonial perspective. As the source material is artistic depictions, an additional aesthetic framework was applied to contextualise the image of Japan with its artistic medium. Four major image components were found in the material: Japan presented as a commodity; Japanese things as something feminine; Japan as something faraway and exotic, contrasting the West; and Japan as a reference or commentary on the ongoing Japonism movement. The image of Japan found in these depictions of Swedish Japonism was a Eurocentric and ethnocentric understanding of the country. Japan and Japanese things, were imagined as something exotic and beautiful, and usually conveyed as exotic commercial flair for Western women.
