The elusive desire to read. : A systematic literature study on how the teacher can encourage the desire to read fiction in high school students.Kalogeropoulou, Konstantina January 2021 (has links)
This essay examines how teachers can encourage the desire to read fiction in high school students. More specifically, the goal of this essay is to examine what research says about how teachers can encourage the desire to read fiction, but also how teachers can shape and lead education to encourage the desire to read fiction. The method used is a systematic literature study of existing research. The results show that there are many ways that a teacher can encourage the desire to read. By using a suitable leadership style, participating in literary conversations, choosing literature according to students’ interests and reading abilities, developing students’ self-image and being a literary role model, a teacher can encourage the desire to read in high school students.

The purpose of this study is to discover and describe how inmate men experience that their sexuality and sexual health has been affected by the sentence of imprisonment. I have examined how these men maintain intimate partner relationships. What conditions are there for them to start new relationships and how do they perceive the Prison and Probation Service work with sexual matters? To answer the purpose of this study, I have used a qualitative method. I have interviewed seven individuals, all serving a current prison sentence. This master thesis rests on a theoretical framework that consists of Gagnon and Simon’s script theory and Michel Foucault’s analysis of power, institutions and sexuality. The results indicate difficulties for inmates to maintain a relationship and to start a new relationship. Factors such as long distances to the prison, current terms and restrictions, financial limitations and the length of the prison sentence were cited as main reasons. It emerged that Prison and Probation Service does not actively work on issues that concerns sexuality. Several individuals rather described policies that restrict and control the inmates’ sexuality. Further, the informants described how their current situation, has affected their sexual desire, the perception of their own sexuality and masculinity.

The Sheela-na-gig and the creation of her history : a comparative analysis of two theories concerning the mysterious medieval figurePettersson, Joanna January 2017 (has links)
After scholars started conducting research on the medieval Sheela-na-gig carvings, a number of theories regarding the purpose and origin of the figure have been suggested. The question has been tackled through many different approaches, but still remains unfinished as there are no written records explaining what the Sheela-na-gig figure actually is. Scholars have divided into different areas, approaching the discussion from different disciplines: art history, medieval social history, and religious history (both Christian and pre-Christian) to name a few. As the figure is usually found on Christian buildings but is distinguished by very sexual imagery, it leaves the door open for many interpretations. This thesis looks at two common theories on what the Sheela-na-gig is; one which is viewing her as a Romanesque warning against lust and sin, and one which argues that the figure is a folk deity used as an amulet for childbirth, symbolising both life and death. By using discourse theory and a comparative method, this thesis compares the descriptions and arguments of the different theories, and studies the intention behind them. The thesis then shows how the theories choose to focus their search for evidence in order to support their own perspective, while also excluding information which does not serve their particular agenda.

<p>In this essay, Kate Chopin's portraits of women in three short stories, 'The Story of an Hour', 'A Respectable Woman', Athénaïse and the novel <em>The Awakening</em> are studied. It is argued that the outcomes depicted can be seen as increasingly provocative and extreme and that the main conflict and ending of <em>The Awakening </em>is a development and combination of the conflicts and resolutions in the three short stories.</p> / <p>I uppsatsen studeras Kate Chopins kvinnoporträtt i tre noveller, 'The Story of an Hour', 'A Respectable Woman', Athénaïse och i romanen <em>The Awakening.</em> Syftet är att visa att huvudhandlingen och slutet på <em>The Awakening</em> är en utveckling och kombination av de alltmer provokativa och extrema handlingarna och upplösningarna i novellerna.</p>
