Basement Heart

Tkac, Samantha Constance 01 January 2019 (has links)
Basement Heart is a collection of short stories with a goal of documenting the manifestations of rage and how it evolves throughout a woman’s life. In these stories, femininity is explored through the aesthetics of the grotesque. Female protagonists seek to inhabit new definitions of female sexuality that combat tired expectations made by society’s misogynistic and objectifying culture. Often, their feelings of unprovoked grief manifest themselves as pursuits of the flesh, which becomes the underlying heartbeat of each story; themes revolve around sex and obsession and explore what happens when sexual fantasies are realized and lived out in the real world. When characters inhabit their bodies in ways that American culture tells women not to, they become viscerally self-aware and better their understanding of what they want. And doing what they want is all these women care about. The characters in Basement Heart are angry, restless, and at times driven mad by their own lust for control.

The Dying Dreamer - Architecture of Parallel Realities

Zimm, Malin January 2003 (has links)

The objective of this licentiate thesis is to investigatearchitectural experience and creation in virtual space and itsrepresentational problems. The thesis comprises three articlespublished during the years 2001-2003, and a website,www.arch.kth.se/~zimm.

The articles investigate architecture as a transgressivestate between the virtual worlds of imagination and thedomestic interior, introducing obsessive dreambuilding as amethod of negotiating material fictions in real space. The mainrepresentative of this kind of architectural activity is thefictional character Baron des Esseintes in Joris-KarlHuysmans´ novel À Rebours (1884). Together with thearchitectural transformations created by the architect Sir JohnSoane and the artists Kurt Schwitters and Gregor Schneider, theprojects share and develop the theme of extreme individualityand explore the architectural imagination at work in the mindof the obsessive dreambuilder. These architects of parallelrealities create operative fields of artificiality andimagination, where architectural space splits into differentontological states, providing fields for observation ofperceptional and representational problems.

Keywords:Architecture, Against Nature/À Rebours,Artifice, Artificiality, Domestic interior, Dream, Experience,Fiction, Hypertext, Huysmans, Imagination, Individuality,Interactivity, Interface, Obsession, Obsessive dreambuilding,Perception, Representation, Schwitters, Schneider, Soane,Symbolism, Virtual Reality

Söderholm, Per, Brander, Gustaf January 2013 (has links)

Fiurášková, Ivona January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on orthorexia nervosa in connection with OCD. Theoretical part contains introduction, diagnostic criteria and methods of measuring. Increasing attention is given to risk groups and factors, which can affect the development of both disorders. Moreover, treatment options and comparison with other mental disorders are presented. The last part of theoretical part is focused on athletes in fitness centers, which are research subjects in the practical part of the thesis. The main goal of practical part is to find out connection between orthorexia nervosa and OCD in selected group of respondents (N=203). Main research survey has quantitative design. The ORTO-15 and Obsessive - Compulsive Inventory (OCI) surveys are used. Statistical analysis shows statistically significant correlation between orthorexia symptoms and obsessive - compulsive disorder symptoms. There is not any significant correlation between orthorexia and training frequency. However, there is statistically significant correlation between orthorexia symptoms and training frequency. The results also show that the occurrence of orthorexia is not sex-linked. Interviews with some responders have been added to research survey (N = 6). The gathered data were processed open coding and presented card unloading...

Approche psychocritique de l'œuvre romanesque de Tierno Monénembo

Keita, Mohamed 27 June 2011 (has links)
Ces derniers s’inspirent en général de l’univers familial ou de celui du pays natal « mal sorti » du joug colonial français / The present theses is aimed at taking out again the implicit of literary oeuvre of Tierno Monenembo. It is structured around three main axles ; the first studies narrative authorities ; second door on the main actors of the tale ; the third axles allows to work out the origin of the personal myth of the writer across banishment. The analysis psychocritique of oeuvre of Monenembo Is meant be also a study concerning the psychology of the figures. It tries to head with the self-defining feeling of faintness of the figures and with that of the exile. All in all, faced with traumas sociopolitiques, the figures feel the nostalgia of the infantile stadium. This recurrent structure in oeuvre is the result of a disturbing past. This one is translated by speeches on the sly of storytellers. These last draw inspiration in general from the family world or from that of the natal country “badly taken out” from French colonial yoke
