The Swedish Police Authority is the largest Authority in Sweden. One small part of the organization is the International Units and the section for Peace Support Operations. The unit gets its objectives from the Swedish Government which are transformed into governing documents within The Swedish Police Authority. Among many directives are the policy and guideline for implementing the gained knowledge and experience achieved by the Police Officers being sent abroad. Earlier studies have concluded there might be a gap between the policies and the practice regarding the implementation within the Swedish Police Authority and its different organizational bodies. A digital survey was sent out to Swedish Police officers that had spent time abroad in the line of duty. Questions about the fulfillment of the policies was imbedded with questions about their own opinions about what their service abroad had led to. It seems to be some sort of organizational disconnection between the policies intent and the organizational practice.

[pt] A pesquisa visa compreender o significado da privatização da Embratel nos
anos 1990 para empregados e ex-empregados, mais de 20 anos depois do
ocorrido, e se enquadra nas discussões dos estudos organizacionais históricos e
dos estudos de memória organizacional. É utilizada a abordagem teórico metodológica
da história oral, voltada tanto à experiência vivida dos indivíduos
face a eventos históricos quanto ao significado dessa experiência, por meio do
estudo da memória individual. A pesquisa inova nos estudos organizacionais ao
incorporar a perspectiva de history-telling (Portelli, 1991; 1997), que une
storytelling com pesquisa histórica e que entende as falhas, silêncios e erros da
memória como significativas da experiência dos indivíduos. A Embratel, Empresa
Brasileira de Telecomunicações, é um locus interessante para o estudo da
memória nos estudos organizacionais. Hoje marca fantasia para o segmento
corporativo do grupo Claro S.A., a empresa teve sua criação prevista pela Lei
4.117 de 1962 durante o governo de João Goulart, mas sua criação efetiva se deu
apenas durante a ditadura militar, em 1965. Sua importância se insere em um
contexto de política nacional-desenvolvimentista iniciada por Getúlio Vargas e
aprofundada pelo governo militar, quando a administração indireta, em especial as
empresas estatais, passaram a servir como instrumento de desenvolvimento
econômico. Para isso, essas empresas foram dotadas de maior autonomia
gerencial em relação à administração direta, operando de forma semelhante às
empresas privadas. As telecomunicações e a Embratel se destacaram no projeto
militar tanto por motivos econômicos, pela necessidade de uma rede de
comunicações que interligasse as diversas capitais do país para o crescimento
empresarial, quanto por motivos geopolíticos, já que essa integridade territorial
fazia parte da estratégia militar para a construção de uma nação soberana. Ao
longo de sua trajetória, com a redemocratização do país em 1985, os objetivos
iniciais de integração nacional cumpridos e as mudanças tecnológicas, a Embratel
aos poucos perde sua importância como instrumento de política industrial e passa
a se enquadrar cada vez mais como prestadora de serviços, culminando em sua
privatização no ano de 1998, em um contexto de ascensão das ideias neoliberais
nos planos econômico e político. Assim, sua privatização se torna emblemática
por representar o fim de uma era de nacional-desenvolvimentismo no plano
nacional, de globalização no plano internacional e de inserção de conceitos como
o gerencialismo dentro da esfera pública. Como os funcionários da Embratel
interpretam, elaboram e significam, no presente, a privatização da empresa foi a
pergunta que guiou a conversa e a análise das narrativas de 57 empregados e ex empregados
da empresa, totalizando 188 horas de gravação posteriormente
transcritas. A análise, segmentada por grupo geracional, mostra como a memória e
o entendimento sobre a privatização é múltipla, dependente das experiências
particulares e coletivas dos indivíduos e especialmente dos contextos sociais nos
quais se localizam. A pesquisa mostra ademais como a interpretação particular
sobre o início da privatização é um dos indicadores do significado da experiência
para os narradores. / [en] This study examines the meaning of Embratel s privatization in the 1990s
for its employees and former employees, more than 20 years after the event, and
fits into broader discussions of the fields of historical organizational studies and
organizational memory studies. To this end, the study adopts the theoreticalmethodological
approach of oral history, aimed both at the lived experience of
individuals in face of historical events and at the meaning of this experience
through the study of individual memory. The research innovates in organizational
studies by incorporating the perspective of history-telling (Portelli, 1991; 1997), a
combination of storytelling and historical research which approaches the failures,
silences, and errors of memory as significant in the experience of individuals.
Embratel, Empresa Brasileira de Telecomunicações, is an interesting locus for the
study of memory in organizational studies. Currently a trade name for Claro SA
group s corporate segment, Embratel had its formation envisioned under the 1962
Act number 4,117, during João Goulart s government, but its effective creation
only occurred during the military dictatorship, in 1965. Its importance is
embedded in the context of national-developmentalist policy initiated by Getúlio
Vargas and strengthened by the military government, when indirect
administration, especially state-owned enterprises, was conceived as instruments
of economic development. To achieve this goal, these companies possessed
greater managerial autonomy compared to direct administration, operating like
quasi-private companies. Telecommunications and Embratel particularly stood out
in the military project both for economic reasons, the need for a communications
network that would interconnect the various capitals of the country for business
growth, and for geopolitical reasons, as territorial integrity was part of the military
strategy for a sovereign nation. Along its trajectory, with the country s redemocratization
process in 1985, the initial objectives of national integration were
fulfilled and the advent of technological changes, Embratel gradually lost its
importance as an instrument of industrial policy and gradually acquired a service
provider status, culminating in its privatization in 1998, in a context of the rise of
neoliberal ideas on the economic and political levels. Its privatization is hence
emblematic as it represents the end of the national-developmentalism era at the
national level, globalization at the international level and the insertion of concepts
such as managerialism within the public sphere. How Embratel employees
interpret, elaborate, and attach meaning to the company s privatization, in the
present, was the question that guided the conversation and the analysis of the
narratives of 57 employees and former employees of the company, totaling 188
hours of recording later transcribed. The analysis, segmented by generational
group, shows the multiplicity of memories and the many ways in which the
company s privatization is signified, depending on individuals peculiar and
collective experiences, shaped particularly by the social contexts in which they are
located. The study also reveals how the particular interpretation of the beginning
of privatization is one of the indicators of the meaning of lived experience for the
narrators.

[pt] A pesquisa teve por objetivo identificar e compreender o posicionamento
ideológico e as atuações político- discursivas do jornal Folha de S.Paulo -
importante empresa jornalística e representante da grande imprensa - ao
longo do período da ditadura civil-militar brasileira. A tese que se defende
é a de que o posicionamento ideológico da Folha de S.Paulo, ao longo da
ditadura civil-militar brasileira, permaneceu sempre vinculado à sua
posição (e visão de mundo) de classe empresarial dominante. Como
desdobramento disso, as suas atuações político-discursivas cotidianas
foram sempre fluidas, plurais e adaptadas às mudanças políticas,
econômicas e sociais do período. Com base na Análise Crítica do
Discurso e na Abordagem Histórico-Discursiva (AHD) de Ruth Wodak,
foram analisadas 7.021 páginas editoriais publicadas de janeiro de 1961 à
dezembro de 1988. A partir das estratégias discursivas identificadas, foi
possível (1) periodizar a trajetória discursiva do Jornal em seis momentos
distintos; e (2) responder às cinco questões centrais da AHD, observando
diacronicamente as mudanças discursivas nos macrotópicos Democracia
versus Regime Autoritário e Imprensa neutra versus Imprensa
Formadora de Opinião. Os resultados encontrados explicitam a atuação
do ator político empresarial na sociedade e, mais especificamente, da
imprensa. Isso significa que as presumidas objetividade e imparcialidade
presentes no discurso jornalístico apenas contribuem para encobrir o
trabalho moral e político realizado, no dia a dia, pelos jornais. / [en] The research aimed to identify and understand the ideological position and
political-discursive actions of the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo - an
important journalistic company and representative of the great press -
throughout the period of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship. The thesis
defended is that the ideological position of Folha de S.Paulo, throughout
the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship, always remained linked to its
position (and worldview) as the dominant business class. As a
consequence of this, his daily political-discursive actions were always fluid,
plural and adapted to the political, economic and social changes of the
period. Based on Ruth Wodak s Critical Discourse Analysis and Historical-Discursive Approach (HDA), 7,021 editorial pages published from January
1961 to December 1988 were analyzed. Based on the identified discursive
strategies, it was possible (1) to periodize the Jornal s discursive trajectory
in six different moments; and (2) answer the five central questions of the
AHD, diachronically observing the discursive changes in the macrotopics
Democracy versus Authoritarian Regime and Neutral Press versus
Opinion-Forming Press. The results found explain the performance of the
business political actor in society and, more specifically, the press. This
means that the presumed objectivity and impartiality present in journalistic
discourse only contribute to cover up the moral and political work carried
out on a daily basis by newspapers.

Previous issue date: 2017-04-24 / Diversas organizações do mundo contemporâneo atuam em causas consideradas de interesse global, para além das fronteiras formais tradicionalmente estabelecidas de Estados e Nações. Destacam-se as organizações não governamentais internacionais, as ONGIs, ligadas a interesses ambientais, humanitários e de desenvolvimento social, porque nos últimos anos as suas operações têm aumentado em número e em complexidade devido ao incremento de desastres naturais, biológicos, conflitos civis, guerras e fome, demandando um número cada vez maior de pessoas disponíveis, preparadas e que almejem participar desse universo: os ativistas. Realizou-se uma análise das razões que levam os indivíduos a se sentirem atraídos por determinado tipo de atuação ativista. Usou-se uma abordagem a partir de aportes teóricos da Psicanálise, mais especificamente da Psicossociologia, partindo do pressuposto de que a ação ativista envolve a interação de processos psíquicos complexos, densos, ambivalentes, fundados nos desejos e interesses individuais e coletivos. O objetivo foi entender por que os indivíduos escolhem e se envolvem com organizações ligadas ao ativismo. Nesse sentido, a proposta é um deslocamento de estudo puramente descritivo de ocupação, trabalho, profissão e carreira dos ativistas, para uma análise sobre os sentidos da sua atuação. Pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, exploratória, foram entrevistados 14 ativistas que possuíam algum tipo de relação com essas organizações internacionais, independentemente de sua nacionalidade e local de atuação. A partir da Análise Temática, três temas emergiram: a) O compartilhamento de valores; b) Ser ativista e ter uma causa: “É assim que sou”!; c) As escolhas e suas ambivalências. Os resultados destacam a importância das escolhas individuais, a ênfase nos vínculos grupais e algumas tensões ligadas ao ser um ativista. / Several organizations in the contemporary world act on causes considered to be of global concern, beyond the traditionally established formal boundaries of states and nations. International nongovernmental organizations – INGOs stand out in this field, which are linked to environmental, humanitarian and social development interests, because in recent years their operations have increased in number and complexity due to the increase in natural, biological, civil conflicts, wars and hunger, demanding an increasing number of people that are available, prepared and willing to participate in this universe: the activists. We made an analysis of the reasons that lead individuals to be attracted to a certain type of activist activity, applying an approach based on theoretical contributions from Psychoanalysis, specifically from Psychosociology, based on the assumption that activist action involves the interaction of complex, dense, ambivalent psychic processes, based on individual and collective desires and interests. The goal was to understand why individuals choose and engage with organizations linked to activism. In this sense, the proposal is a displacement from a purely descriptive study of activists’ occupation, work, profession and career to an analysis about the meanings of their performance. We interviewed 14 activists who had some type of relationship with these international organizations, regardless of their nationality and place of performance, in a research of qualitative and exploratory nature. From the Thematic Analysis, three themes emerged: a) The sharing of values; B) Being an activist and having a cause: "That is how I am!"; C) Choices and their ambivalences. Our results highlight the importance of individual choices, the emphasis on group bonds and some tensions connected to being an activist.

Studien syftar till att kartlägga vilken påverkan ett chefsbyte har på medarbetarna avseende motivation och ledarskap på Luftstridsskolan i Uppsala. Undersökningen avser perioden mars till maj 2021. Kartläggningens första del genomfördes med ambitionen att få en faktabaserad bakgrund över hur länge chefer sitter i sina befattningar. Studiens andra del fortsatte att med kvalitativa metoder inspirerade av grundad teori samt genom en intervjustudie undersöka medarbetares upplevelser av chefsbyten. Syftet var att försöka identifiera vilken påverkan de får på chefernas förutsättningar till ett utvecklande ledarskap men även påverkan på medarbetarnas motivation. Fokus under studien har legat på människan och dess upplevelser. Strävan var också att belysa effekter av chefsbyten ur ett organisatoriskt perspektiv. Påvisat resultat i studien efter analys pekar på att upplevelserna är överraskande lika oberoende av anställningskategori. Respondenterna gav uttryck för överraskande insikter och förståelse för chefernas situation och utmaningar. Studiens resultat visar även att det finns blandade upplevelser hos alla anställningskategorier av chefsbyten. Det finns styrande och bärande teman som bygger upp om ett chefsbyte upplevs som positivt eller negativt. Teman som identifierades var ledarskap, information och förutsättningar. Slutsatserna av studien är att ett chefsbyte påverkar motivationen hos medarbetarna och chefers förutsättningar att tillämpa ett utvecklande ledarskap. Att skapa rätt förutsättningar för byte av chef framstår som helt centralt med grund i framtagna teman. Studien visar också på generellt lika upplevelser inom anställningskategorierna samt betonar vikten av uppfyllnad av framtagna teman för att minska påverkan på motivation och förutsättningar. Den största påverkan på medarbetarnas motivation sker i steget trygghet, med osäkerhet och oro som konsekvenser. / The study aims to map the impact of a change of management on employees regarding motivation and leadership at the Air Combat School in Uppsala. The survey covers the period March to May 2021.The first part of the survey was carried out with the ambition of gaining a fact-based background on how long managers sit in their positions. The second part of the study continued to use qualitative methods inspired by grounded theory and through an interview study to examine employees' experiences of managerial changes. The purpose was to try to identify the impact they have on the managers 'conditions for developing leadership but also the impact on the employees' motivation. The focus during the study has been on man and his experiences. The aim was also to shed light on the effects of changes of management from an organizational perspective. Demonstrated results in the study after analysis indicate that the experiences are surprisingly equally independent of employment category. The respondents expressed surprising insights and understanding of the managers' situation and challenges. The results of the study also show that there are mixed experiences in all employment categories of managerial changes. There are governing and supporting themes that build up if a change of manager is perceived as positive or negative. Themes identified were leadership, information and conditions. The conclusions of the study are that a change of manager affects the motivation of employees and managers' ability to apply developing leadership. Creating the right conditions for a change of manager appears to be absolutely central, based on developed themes. The study also shows generally similar experiences within the employment categories and emphasizes the importance of fulfilling developed themes in order to reduce the impact on motivation and conditions. The greatest impact on employees' motivation takes place in the step of security, with uncertainty and anxiety as consequences.

[pt] Inserido no contexto mais amplo dos estudos organizacionais históricos e
dos estudos acerca da relação entre empresas, governo e sociedade, a pesquisa
teve como objetivo investigar, à luz da análise crítica do discurso, quais
estratégias discursivo-linguísticas o Jornal Folha de São Paulo utilizou para se
posicionar ideologicamente antes, durante e depois do golpe de Estado de
março de 1964. Para tanto, construiu-se o referencial teórico a partir da
discussão sobre as relações entre Imprensa, Governo e Ditadura Militar e sobre
os conceitos de Ideologia e Poder. Em relação aos procedimentos
metodológicos para a construção do corpus da pesquisa, de natureza qualitativa
e interpretativa foram coletados os seguintes documentos: (1) O Caderno
Especial do jornal “64- Brasil continua” (44 páginas de conteúdo); e (2) os
editoriais diários de janeiro a junho de 1964 (em um total de 112 editoriais). De
forma complementar, para a realização da análise, foi utilizado o aporte teóricometodológico
do modelo tridimensional de Norman Fairclough (2016) e o modelo
de análise de estratégias de construções simbólicas ideológicas de J.B.
Thompson (2011). Como resultado foi possível identificar três etapas na
trajetória discursiva do posicionamento do Jornal Folha de São Paulo em relação
ao golpe civil-militar de 1964: (1) um momento de significativa contribuição para
a desestabilização do governo do presidente João Goulart (marcado pelos
editoriais de Janeiro, Fevereiro e Março); (2) um momento de alinhamento com o
golpe militar (marcado pelo Caderno Especial e os editoriais do mês de Abril); e
(3) um momento de apoio ao posterior governo de Castelo Branco, com
ressalvas (marcado pelos editoriais de Maio e Junho). / [en] In the broader context of historical organizational studies and studies
about the relationship between business, government, and society, the research
aimed to investigate, in the light of the Critical Discourse Analysis, what
discursive-linguistic strategies the Folha de São Paulo newspaper used to
ideologically position itself before, during and after the March 1964 coup d état.
To this end, the theoretical framework was constructed based on the discussion
about the relations between the Press, Government, and Military Dictatorship and
on the concepts of Ideology and Power. Regarding the methodological
procedures, for the construction of the corpus of the research the following
documents were collected: (a) The special issue of the newspaper called 64-
Brazil continues (44 pages); and (b) the daily editorials from January to June
1964 (out of a total of 112 commentaries). Also, were used for the analysis of the
documents both the theoretical-methodological contribution of the threedimensional
model of Norman Fairclough (2016) and the strategy analysis model
of ideological symbolic constructions of J.B. Thompson (2011). As a result, it was
possible to identify three stages in the discursive trajectory of the Folha de São
Paulo newspaper in relation to the 1964 civil-military coup: (1) a moment of
significant contribution to the destabilization of President João Goulart s
government (marked by January, February and March editorials); (2) a moment
of alignment with the military coup (marked by the Special Book and the April
editorials); and (3) a moment of support for the subsequent Castelo Branco
government, with reservations (marked by May and June editorials).

<p>This study aims to compare two ethnographies of organizational culture – one from the discipline of Social Anthropology and one from the discipline of Organizational Studies – considering their purpose, their method, and their concept of culture. Despite big similarities, or perhaps thanks to the similarities, some fundamental differences are made visible. The discipline of Organizational Studies has, compared to that of Social Anthropology, regarding the research method being used, less focus on, and less participation in, the informal social life of the organizational culture of the study. Regarding the concept of culture the Organizational Studies consider culture containing more of unity, stability and clear boundaries, compared to Social Anthropology. Further – the Organizational Studies has more focus on power and structure, while Social Anthropology has more focus on meaning and interpretation. Finally – the research purpose of studies in Organizational Studies is a bit more normative in its characteristic, than that of Social Anthropology. The study is concluded with a discussion of the future of Social Anthropology and its studies of organizational culture. An argumentation is conducted intended to get the two disciplines to learn from each other in the area of organizational culture, and also intended to show the discipline of Social Anthropology a road to relevant studies in the area of organizational culture.</p> / <p> </p><p>Denna studie syftar till att jämföra två etnografier inom organisationskultur - en från disciplinen socialantropologi och en från disciplinen organisationsteori - med fokus på deras respektive syfte, metod och kulturbegrepp. Trots stora likheter, eller kanske tack vare likheterna, syns några grundläggande skillnader. Organisationsteorin har, jämfört med socialantropologin, angående forskningsmetod, mindre fokus på och mindre deltagande i det informella sociala livet i den studerade organisationskulturen. Angående kulturbegreppet så ser organisationsteorin kultur som något enhetligt, stabilt och tydligt avgränsat i större utsträckning än socialantropologin. Vidare har organisationsteorin större fokus på makt och struktur, medan socialantropologin har mer fokus på mening och tolkning. Slutligen är organisationsteorins syfte något mer normativ i sin karaktär än hos socialantropologin. Studien avslutas med en diskussion om socialantropologins framtid på området organisationskultur. En argumentation drivs i syfte att de två disciplinerna ska kunna lära från varandra och i syfte att visa en väg för socialantropologin att bedriva relevanta studier på området organisationskultur.</p>

This study aims to compare two ethnographies of organizational culture – one from the discipline of Social Anthropology and one from the discipline of Organizational Studies – considering their purpose, their method, and their concept of culture. Despite big similarities, or perhaps thanks to the similarities, some fundamental differences are made visible. The discipline of Organizational Studies has, compared to that of Social Anthropology, regarding the research method being used, less focus on, and less participation in, the informal social life of the organizational culture of the study. Regarding the concept of culture the Organizational Studies consider culture containing more of unity, stability and clear boundaries, compared to Social Anthropology. Further – the Organizational Studies has more focus on power and structure, while Social Anthropology has more focus on meaning and interpretation. Finally – the research purpose of studies in Organizational Studies is a bit more normative in its characteristic, than that of Social Anthropology. The study is concluded with a discussion of the future of Social Anthropology and its studies of organizational culture.
