Education for Sustainable Development in Perspective(s) : Rural Mongolian teachers’ views on environmental problems

Sandin, Eva-Maria January 2014 (has links)
Many researchers argue that there is a demand for a new way of teaching and learning to better equip us for the value pluralistic society we are living in. Research has shown that teachers are reluctant to teach about value pluralistic subjects. This thesis aims to study how rural Mongolian teachers view the human-nature relationship in relation to the current situation in Mongolia, characterized by economic growth and environmental issues. Ethical perspectives are applied on the teachers’ views in order to bring structure to the different ways of viewing the human-nature relationship. The study shows that the teachers’ values change depending on if they look at their personal relationship to nature or put nature in relation to society. The results prove that even though personal values are complex it is possible to bring structure to how we understand them. The result provides an example of how complex value pluralistic issues can be structured in order to enable an understanding of them. Furthermore, the thesis suggests that ethical perspectives can be used in education for sustainable development when striving for a new way of teaching and learning.

Livstillfredsställelse, stress och självkänsla bland äldre människor - Utifrån genusperspektiv / Life satisfaction, stress and self-esteem among older adults - A gender perspective

Jablanovic, Teea, Ifwarsson, Josefina January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the study was to examine wellbeing of older people (pensioners)by analyzing the relationship between perceived stress, self-esteem and life-satisfaction in relation to gender, age, educational level and marital status. The study was based on a survey where 91 older individuals participated. The survey included Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) measuring stress, Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) measuring self-esteem and Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), measuring life satisfaction. The results showed that there were significant relationships between perceived stress, self-esteem and life satisfaction, as well as significant differences between men and women regarding stress and life satisfaction. Females experienced more stress, had lower life satisfaction and self-esteem than males. The results also showed that gender, life satisfaction and self-esteem significantly predict stress.

Using health-related quality of life instruments for children with long-term conditions : On the basis of a national quality registry system

Petersson, Christina January 2016 (has links)
Introduction: There has been a continuous development of new technologies in healthcare that are derived from national quality registries. However, this innovation needs to be translated into the workflow of healthcare delivery, to enable children with long-term conditions to get the best support possible to manage their health during everyday life. Since children living with long-term conditions experience different interference levels in their lives, healthcare professionals need to assess the impact of care on children’s day-to-day lives, as a complement to biomedical assessments. Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to explore and describe the use of instruments about health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in outpatient care for children with long-term conditions on the basis of a national quality registry system. Methods: The research was conducted by using comparative, cross-sectional and explorative designs and data collection was performed by using different methods. The questionnaire DISABKIDS Chronic Generic Measure -37 was used as well as semi-structured interviews and video-recordings from consultations. Altogether, 156 children (8–18 years) and nine healthcare professionals participated in the studies. Children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) (n 131) answered the questionnaire DISABKIDS and children with rheumatic diseases, kidney diseases and T1D (n 25) were interviewed after their consultation at the outpatient clinic after the web-DISABKIDS had been used. In total, nine healthcare professionals used the HRQOL instrument as an assessment tool during the encounters which was video-recorded (n 21). Quantitative deductive content analysis was used to describe content in different HRQOL instruments. Statistical inference was used to analyse results from DISABKIDS and qualitative content analysis was used to analyse the interviews and video-recordings. Results: The findings showed that based on a biopsychosocial perspective, both generic and disease-specific instruments should be used to gain a comprehensive evaluation of the child’s HRQOL. The DISABKIDS instrument is applicable when describing different aspects of health concerning children with T1D. When DISABKIDS was used in the encounters, children expressed positive experiences about sharing their results with the healthcare professional. It was discovered that different approaches led to different outcomes for the child when the healthcare professionals were using DISABKIDS during the encounter. When an instructing approach is used, the child’s ability to learn more about their health and how to improve their health is limited. When an inviting or engaging approach is used by the professional, the child may become more involved during the conversations. Conclusions: It could be argued that instruments of HRQOL could be used as a complement to biomedical variables, to promote a biopsychosocial perspective on the child’s health. According to the children in this thesis, feedback on their results after answering to web-DISABKIDS is important, which implies that healthcare professionals need to prioritize time for discussions about results from HRQOL instruments in the encounters. If healthcare professionals involve the child in the discussion of the results of the HRQOL, misinterpreted answers could be corrected during the conversation. Concurrently, this claims that healthcare professionals invite and engage the child.

Vennberg Modig, Anna, Öhlund, Sofie January 2019 (has links)
Research in inclusive education lacks studies in examining how teachers experience their work. The aim of the study was to contribute knowledge regarding teachers’ own perspective on the work with additional adaptations and the prerequisites to meet students’ different needs from classes year 7-9. The data collection method was semi structured interviews and nine interviews were conducted with teachers. The interviews were transcribed in full and empirical evidence condensed by qualitative content analysis. The result showed that teachers describe their work based on different themes; complexity, tacit knowledge and relational skills. The result also showed that the prerequisites that teachers receive in their work with additional adaptations are different types of support structures and that the organization around this work is different in different schools. We found that categorical, relational and the dilemma perspective were represented in teachers descriptions of their work with additional adaptations and that none of the perspectives dominated the empirical evidence. In organization with clear structure and procedures, principal prioritises collegial learning, competence development and support as conditions for the work the relational perspective dominated. Conversely, in organisation lacking support from principal and student health and teachers lack of knowledge in their work with additional adaptions, the categorical perspective dominated.

Donnerstål, Linn, Sjödin, Lisa January 2019 (has links)
Organizations are dependent on the employees' unique knowledge, which has come to be regarded as the most important strategic resource. / This master’s dissertation consists of a subproject of a larger study (Uma mulher, um feto, e uma má notícia: a entrega de diagnósticos de síndromes e de malformações fetais – em busca de uma melhor compreensão do que está por vir e do que pode ser feito, OSTERMANN, 2013) and aims at describing the news delivery made by a geneticist to pregnant or puerperal women and their companion during audio recorded genetic counselings held in a mother and child hospital of the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), located in southern Brazil. After transcribing the 54 audiorecorded genetic counselings, we selected only the 21 counseling sessions which dealt with the communication of tests results. By taking a conversation analytical perspective (SACKS; SCHEGLOFF; JEFFERSON, 1974), the interactions were analyzed so as to describe the actions involved within the phase of the consultations in which the sequence of good and bad news delivery occurs. The data analysis reveals that the delivery of the news follows a didactic sequence composed by the following elements: (1) a news preannouncement, (2) a retake of the previous exams results which indicated the realization of more specialized exams, (3) a/some perspective-display series (MAYNARD, 1992) in case of bad news, (4) a news announcement itself, and when the news consists of a “bad” diagnosis, (5) a display of something potentially “positive” within each case. Another tendency revealed in the data refers to the process of placing the category of spokesperson to the doctor, to the staff of fetal medicine and to the institution itself when the news is good. When the news to be delivered is bad, on the other hand, there is a process of distancing of the person who delivers it and this category is alocated to the exam, which is then put in the position of the “agent” of the verbs that announce the news and, as a consequence, ends up being “the responsible one” for bearing it. This process of agentivization of the exam is linked to the process of “depersonalization of the disease”, which happens due to the lack of nominal and/or pronominal referents that categorize the fetus as the bearer of the disease and the symptoms presented throughout the news delivery sequence. The linguistic-interactional analysis of the news delivery in this research study shows recurring practices in the event genetic counseling. By these recurrences, the geneticist presents ways to deal with the patients and their companions’ distress, and these ways can be spread to the health professionals’ education in areas in which diagnosis delivery is a daily practice.

Based on a systemic-discursive perspective, the theoretical model of the communicational decision network approaches the Luhmann Systems Theory and the discursive approach of Eliseo Verón. According to this model, strategies are formed by decisions and decisions are formed by communication. Theoretical thoughts about organizational communication presented in this study follow an interpretative way, with emphasis on relationships and the production of meanings in the organizational environment. This thinking goes against the classic / instrumental paradigm of the area, because it emphasizes the importance of organizational communication in the processes of decisions, development and also implementation of strategies and not as a mere tool of dissemination. Regarding the concepts inherent in the strategy, the research is linked to an approach of strategy as a social practice, which corroborates with the perception that the strategy is constituted and instituted by / in the communication. The method chosen to collect, present and analyze the data was the case study. The result of the research brought a new sight at communication and its relations with organizational strategy. Communication becomes understood as a network of senses, built in processes that have internal and external dimensions. It was possible to read the organization's strategy and its communication elements with the application of the communicational decision network: decision, identification, institutionalization, mediation and organizational culture and (re) construct a fragment of that network. In this way the strategy was configured from the decisions of development of leaders, creation of new strategic guidelines, development of the innovation group and redefinition of the organizational chart of the company.
