La dissertation augmente cette notion de vie des Havaianas pour sommer les processus d’agencement et les qualifications qui les construisent comme un produit et lui confère d’identité. L’objet de l’investigation a été la reconstitution certains de ces processus dont les tongs ont été soumis à transformer en Havaianas. L’argument du travail est sur un referencial théorique qui discute les agencements marchands, en considérant la multidimensionalité des aspect qui singularisent les tongs et ont été décisifs dans la transformation de cette commodity dans un bien de luxe. Sa trajectoire, dés la création en 1962, est analysée par quatre agencies: la publicité, le design, la compétition e les utilisateurs. Le étude sur le terrain n’est pas centre dans une seule region géographique à cause de l’amplitude du thème, mais Il est surtout donné dans lês points de vente des Havaianas qui agissent dans la consommation populaire et dans la consommation de luxe, dans les villes de São Paulo et Porto Alegre. / Esta pesquisa aborda os chinelos Havaianas, fabricados no Brasil e comercializados internacionalmente, como coisa que possui vida e detém uma biografia cultural. A dissertação amplia essa noção da vida da Havaianas para incluir os processos de agenciamento e as qualificações que a constroem enquanto produto e conferem identidade. O objeto da investigação foi a reconstituição de alguns desses processos a que os chinelos de tiras foram sujeitos até se transformarem em Havaianas. O argumento do trabalho está assentado em um referencial teórico que discute os agenciamentos mercadológicos, considerando a multidimensionalidade dos aspectos que singularizam os chinelos e foram decisivos na transformação dessa commodity em um bem de luxo. Sua trajetória, desde a criação em 1962, é analisada por meio de quatro agências: a publicidade, o design , a concorrência e os usuários. O trabalho de campo não está centrado em uma única região geográfica, devido à amplitude do tema, mas deu-se principalmente em pontos de venda da Havaianas que operam tanto no consumo popular como no de luxo, nas cidades de Porto Alegre e São Paulo. / This research discusses the Havaianas flip flops, manufactured in Brazil and internationally marketed as something that has a life and a cultural biography. Cinarizina no tratamento dos sintomas climatéricos / Cinnarizine for treatment of climateric symptoms

Introdução: O tratamento hormonal para amenizar sintomas do climatério é bem conhecido, mas nem sempre pode ser indicado para grande parte das mulheres. Por estes motivos, tem-se testado várias opções de tratamento não hormonal, cujos resultados nem sempre são satisfatórios e conclusivos. Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia da cinarizina no tratamento dos sintomas climatéricos. Casuística e método: Foram estudadas prospectivamente 62 mulheres climatéricas sintomáticas com predomínio de ondas de calor que preencheram os critérios de inclusão e exclusão com idade variando de 45 a 60 anos, as quais foram avaliadas pelo Índice Menopausal de Kupperman (IMK), e atendidas no Setor de Ginecologia Endócrina e Climatério do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo. Foram divididas aleatoriamente em dois grupos: S com 27 pacientes (25 mg de Cinarizina a cada 12 hs, v.o., por 6 meses) e M com 35 pacientes (1 comprimido de placebo a cada 12hs, v.o., por 6 meses). Resultados: No grupo S a média etária foi 53,9 anos; 51,9% brancas e 48,1% negras; e no grupo M a média etária foi de 54,7 anos; 51,4% brancas e 48,6% negras. Os níveis pressóricos e o índice de massa corpórea foram semelhantes, entre os grupos. A análise do IMK e suas variantes comparativamente nos grupos S e M nos tempos 0 e 1 foi p=0,235 e p=0,406, respectivamente. Conclusões: A cinarizina foi semelhante ao placebo no alívio dos sintomas do climatério avaliados pelo IMK. Houve melhora significante do sintoma vertigem nas pacientes que receberam cinarizina. / Introduction: The hormonal treatment for relief of climateric symptoms is well-known but most women can not be treated with homones. For this reason several treatments without hormones has been evaluated with no conclusive results yet. Objective: Evaluate the efficacy of cinnarizine in the treatment of climacteric symptoms. Casuistry and Method: Were prospectively studied 62 symptomatic climacteric women with prevalence of hot flashes who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria aged from 45 to 60 years, evaluated by Kupperman\'s Menopause Index (KMI) attended at the Sector of Endocrinology Gynecology and Climacteric from the Medical School of the Hospital das Clinicas of the University of São Paulo. The subjects were divided alleatory in two: 27 patients Group S (Cinnarizine 25mg every 12h) and Group M with 35 (1 Placebo each 12h). Results: In group S the mean age was 53.9 years; 51.9% white and 48.1% black; and in group M the mean age was 54.7 years; 51.4% white and 48.6% black. Blood pressure levels and body mass index were similar in both groups. The analysis of the KMI and their variables comparision betwen groups (S and M) at time 0 and 1 was p=0.235 and p=0.406 respectively. Conclusions: Cinnarizine was similar to placebo for recipe of climacteric symptoms evaluated by KMI. There was significant improvement of symptom vertigo in patients treated with cinnarizine.

Syfte            Syftet är att få en djupare förståelse för vad som karakteriserar en skicklig ledare. Vidare syftar studien i att analysera hur ledaregenskaper, kulturer och ledarstilar bidrar till ett lyckat ledarskap.  Metod                      Baserat på en kvalitativ undersökning har jag undersökt vad som utgör en framgångsrik ledare inom IT-branschen. Jag har utfört sex djupgående intervjuer med högt uppsatta ledare (VD) i företag inom IT-branschen. Utfallet av dessa intervjuer redovisas och kopplas samman med teorier i kapitel 4, empirisk och teoretisk analys. Resultatet av min undersökning redovisas slutligen i avsnittet slutsats.  Slutsats                       Tendenser och mönster som har identifierats är att kommunikation blir allt mer centralt i organisationer. Jag har kommit fram till att en framgångsrik ledare inom IT-branschen bör vara lyhörd, resultat och målinriktad, ha empati och en god människosyn samt kunna anpassa sin ledarstil utifrån siuation. Jag har klargjort att företagskulturer i olika länder skiljer sig åt och både ledare och organisationer måste idag tänka multikulturellt och multietniskt för att bli framgångsrika. / Purpose           The purpose is to get a deeper understanding of what characterizes a skilled leader. Furthermore, the study aims at analyzing how leadership qualities, cultures and leadership styles contribute to successful leadership Method         Based on a qualitative survey, I have investigated what constitutes a successful leader in the IT industry. I have conducted six in-depth interviews with senior executives (CEO) in companies in the IT industry. The outcome of these interviews is reported and merged in chapter 4, empirical and theoretical analysis. The result of my survey is finally reported in the section conclusion. Conclusion      Trends and patterns that have been identified are that communication is becoming more and more central in organizations. I have come to the conclusion that a successful leader in the IT industry should be responsive,results and  targeted, have empathy and a good human vision, and be able to adapt its leadership style based on siuation. I have made it clear that corporate cultures differ in different countries, and both leaders and organizations need to think multicultural and multiethnic today to be successful.

The fortigenic exploration of psychotherapists’ experiences in full-time private practice

Psychotherapists in full-time, long-term private practice face a variety of occupational demands. They usually maintain private practices for long periods of their lives often under difficult circumstances and emotional pressures and have come to sustain their practices. From literature it is revealed that various demands, as well as benefits and successes are part and parcel of working in private practice full-time. These various factors can have an impact on the well-being of psychotherapists. Apart from the literature review, the personal experience of the researcher, a psychotherapist in full-time private practice, also contributed to ideas and hypotheses about the study. From a position of exploration and further enquiry, the researcher was interested to explore the experiences of psychotherapists in full-time private practice from a fortigenic perspective. A second objective was to determine if this study could contribute to the development of the theoretical assumptions of positive psychology. The research is grounded in the theoretical perspective of positive psychology and fortigenesis. Both these fields are relatively new in psychology and seem to still be forging a niche within the discipline. This perspective was deliberately chosen due to the applicability to the exploration of strengths and vigour, with regards to the maintenance of the professional context of the psychotherapist. The qualitative research process is presented in a narrative approach by means of narrative synthesis and synergy. The findings of the research conversations are presented in the form of a literary short story. Suggestions are made about the fortigenic qualities of psychotherapists essential for maintaining their work in full-time private practice. It’s applicability and usefulness is discussed. Furthermore, suggestions are made with regards to the field of positive psychology and the way forward for this sub-discipline. Spécification de lois de commande pour hélicoptères orientée Qualités de Vol / Designing helicopter control laws with Handling Qualities objectives

Cette thèse s'inscrit dans le domaine de l’étude des lois de commandes de vol pour hélicoptères. Les automaticiens doivent régler les gains de ces lois de manière à respecter au mieux les exigences de Qualités de Pilotage extraites de la norme ADS-33. La norme traduit ces exigences en termes de critères de Qualités de Vol. Ils évaluent la qualité de la stabilité, de l'agilité, et du suivi des consignes du pilote par la machine. Ils traduisent la pilotabilité de l'hélicoptère pour un pilote « moyen » de référence. A part une technique d’optimisation interactive développée à la NASA et l'US Army depuis 40 ans, il n’existe pas de méthode appropriée à ce problème. Les réglages sont effectués de manière empirique et itérative. L’ONERA propose une approche méthodologique structurée. L’objectif de la thèse consiste à développer cette méthodologie de manière à gérer deux contraintes supplémentaires par rapport aux capacités des méthodes de synthèse classiques en automatique : la capacité à prendre en compte la structure contrainte des lois de commande et les exigences spécifiques en terme de Qualités de Vol selon la norme ADS-33.Une technique d'amélioration des Qualités de Vol par analyse de sensibilités entre les gains et les critères est développée. Puis une méthodologie d’initialisation des gains est proposée, via la création et l’utilisation efficace de nouveaux abaques de Qualités de Vol pour modèles équivalents simplifiés. Afin d'améliorer l'efficacité de ce réglage initial, deux contraintes supplémentaires sont prises en compte (énergie et découplage). Enfin, un processus complet de réglage est proposé : initialisation, ajustement linéaire et ajustement non linéaire. / This study is in the field of designing helicopter control laws. Designers must tune the gains of these laws in order to meet as much as possible Handling Qualities requirements from ADS-33. This standard translates these requirements in terms of Flying Qualities requirements. Then, we can evaluate the quality of the stability, of the quickness, and of the ability of the machine to follow the inputs from the pilot. Apart from an interactive optimization technique developed at NASA and US Army over the last 40 years, no appropriate method exists to solve this problem. Then, empirical iterative tunings are led. ONERA addresses this issue through a structured methodological approach. The aim of the thesis is to develop this methodology, taking into account two additional constraints compared with the capabilities of usual synthesis methods used in automatics: the capability to deal with the constraints from the control law structures and with the Handling Qualities requirements from the ADS-33 standards. A technique is developed to improve the Flying Qualities using sensitivity studies between gains and criteria. Then, a methodology to initialize the gains is developed, through the creation and the efficient usage of new Flying Qualities-based charts for equivalent simplified models. In order to improve the efficiency of the initial tuning, two additional constraints are taken into account (uncoupling and energy). Thus, a complete full procedure of tuning is proposed: initialization, linear adjustment and non linear adjustment.

The measuring should be done for various temperature and humidity combinations. The thesic contains the physical explanation of measured dependences.

The qualitative affordances of active and receptive music therapy techniques in major depressive disorder and schizophrenia-spectrum psychotic disorders

Background and objectives: Whilst Active and Receptive Music Therapy techniques have been widely researched and are employed within a range of contexts and with diverse client populations, this study reports on their specific qualitative musical and verbal affordances in major depressive disorder and schizophrenia-spectrum psychotic disorders. The study also describes and compares the respective and joint contributions of the music therapy techniques in giving rise to the affordances as well as reporting on the similarities and differences within and between diagnostic groups. This is the first study of its kind within the South African context. Methods: A qualitative research approach using a case study design, sampled purposefully twenty patients of the above mentioned diagnostic groups for participation in this study comprising a course of eight twice weekly music therapy sessions. The primary data sources were transcribed video recordings of therapy sessions and an individual in-depth semi-structured interview after the course of therapy. Clinical session notes served as a corroborative data source. In-depth content and thematic analysis explored and compared qualitative affordances during music therapy comprising active and Receptive Music Therapy techniques. The qualitative affordances under investigation were i) musical qualities, and ii) verbal expressions. Emerging from these affordances were the respective and combined affordances of the music therapy techniques as well as the similarities and differences between the diagnostic groups. Findings: Thirteen themes emerged from the analysis of clients' verbatim verbal responses to both active music making and Receptive Music Therapy techniques. These themes are: i) not to feel; ii) to do or not to do; iii) grappling with the desired future; iv) hurt and fear of undesirable outcomes; v) sadness, brokenness and futility; vi) anger, trust and vulnerability; vii) desire for connection with and affection of others; viii) barricaded from being present, now; ix) tensing and un-tensing; x) personal relating to one’s musical expression; xi) reflections on the music and music making in therapy; xii) resilience and courage and xiii) invigoration and liberation. The Active Music Therapy techniques comprising clinical improvisation, structured musical exercises, drumming, vocal work, songwriting and movement, gave rise to ten themes expressing the musical affordances. The themes that emerged were i) reciprocal responding; ii) the explicit use of symbols through music; iii) regularity; iv) disturbance and difficulty; v) turning points; vi) energy bursting or lacking; vii) bodily synchrony; viii) intensified emotional expression; ix) exploring new territory and Active Music Therapy techniques comprising clinical improvisation, structured musical exercises, drumming, vocal work, songwriting and movement, gave rise to ten themes expressing the musical affordances. The themes that emerged were i) reciprocal responding; ii) the explicit use of symbols through music; iii) regularity; iv) disturbance and difficulty; v) turning points; vi) energy bursting or lacking; vii) bodily synchrony; viii) intensified emotional expression; ix) exploring new territory and x) resolution and arrival. The emerging themes express the extent of musical and verbal expression of all clients representing both diagnostic groups. Most saliently among clients with depression the affordances were the themes on accessing creativity, accessing and articulating internal feelings, experiencing resilient parts of self, reflecting on and integrating symbolic material, motivation to act and extending musical and verbal expression during social interaction. Among clients suffering from schizophrenia spectrum disorder, the most striking affordances were experiences of regularity and flow within disorganization, orientation to ‘here and now’ experiences through active music making and working with symbolic material expressed on a continuum of concrete to abstract. Clients from both diagnostic groups experienced a reduction in unwanted symptoms as expressed through increased energy levels, experiences of pleasure in music making and spontaneous musical and verbal self-expression. Conclusion: This study revealed qualitative affordances of specific music therapy techniques expressed through verbal content and musical qualities. These showed responses within a therapeutic relationship that express inter- and intra-personal connection, give voice to what is not always verbally accessible and facilitate multi-sensory, creative experiences, increased motivation, emotional expression, and the reclamation of energy, spontaneity and resilience. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2017. / Psychiatry / PhD / Unrestricted

Application and Validation of the UEQ KPI in a hedonic context : A context-only extension study in the form of an online survey on Netflix

The aim of the study was to replicate and validate the UEQ KPI introduced by Hinderks et al. (2019) in a context-only extension study by applying it to a product with high hedonic qualities, namely Netflix. The secondary research aim was to identify areas of improvement for Netflix’ user experience. An online survey was conducted with a positivist research philosophy and a deductive research approach in order to achieve the research aims. The chosen methodology proved to be appropriate and effective. The UEQ KPI was confirmed to be a valid methodology to evaluate products with high hedonic qualities. This study hence contributed to the validity of the UEQ KPI and to its generalisability. Certain areas of improvement and their perceived importance for Netflix’ UX were identified, listed from most to least promising: Efficiency, Stimulation and the Novelty. However, as the UEQ KPI is fairly new, more research on this topic is necessary to further validate it. Certainly, this topical development in UX research was proven to be a promising approach to assess the UX of products with different characteristics in a cheap, fast and accurate way.
