[pt] Arthur Bispo do Rosario: do claustro infinito à instalação de um nome é um estudo que aborda a vida e a obra de Bispo do Rosario. Partindo da distinção fundamental, evidenciada pelo próprio fazer de Bispo do Rosario, entre objeto e obra de arte, investigamos a articulação entre delírio e fazer de objetos na instalação de um nome como suplência, como sinthoma, conceito desenvolvido por Jacques Lacan. Tal distinção foi essencial para abordar de que forma Bispo do Rosario foi capaz de inventar para si, por meio do delírio e da produção de objetos, alguma estabilização, sua possibilidade de ancoramento no mundo. Empreendemos ainda uma leitura desses objetos, como obras, e uma reflexão sobre o nome que se instala também no campo da arte, a partir da articulação entre psicanálise e arte e da noção de acumulação. Ao final deste percurso foi possível propor a possibilidade de convergência entre a leitura clínica e a da obra de arte, esclarecendo que tal convergência não se presta à uma mera explicação da singularidade do artista através da obra ou seu oposto, a explicar a obra através da singularidade do artista. / [fr] Arthur Bispo do Rosario: du cloître infini vers l installation d un nom est une étude de la vie et de l oeuvre d Arthur Bispo do Rosario. En partant de la distinction fondamentale, mise en évidence par le travail même de Bispo de Rosario, entre objet et oeuvre d art, nous avons chercher à en savoir davantage sur l articulation du délire et de la réalisation d objets lors de l installation d un nom en temps que suppléance, en temps que sinthome, concept développé para Jacques Lacan. Une telle distinction fut essentielle pour aborder la façon selon laquelle Bispo do Rosario fut capable de s inventer, par le bais du délire et de la production d objets, une certaine stabilisation, sa possibilité d ancrage dans le monde. Nous entreprîmes aussi une lecture de ces objets en temps qu oeuvres et une réflexion sur le nom qui s installe aussi dans le champs de l art à partir de l articulation entre la psychanalyse et l art ainsi que la notion d accumulation. À la fin de ce parcours, il nous fut possible de proposer la possibilité de convergence entre la lecture clinique et celle de l oeuvre d art, laissant claire qu une telle convergence ne consiste pas en une simple explication de la singularité de l artiste à travers l oeuvre ou son opposée, expliquer l oeuvre à travers la singularité de l artiste.

Nas três obras, é possível destacar aspectos semelhantes: o delineamento de um outro social, o bandido, ao qual se opõe ou com o qual se relaciona organicamente um representante da classe média/alta; a construção de uma voz narrativa que, em diferentes medidas, coloca em tensão essa relação; a configuração de cidades atravessadas pelo crime e de discursos sobre a violência; a recuperação de um personagem, o bandido, presente na tradição literária anterior de cada país; a adesão a gêneros populares, como o melodrama e o romance policial. Considerando esses aspectos, a tese divide-se em duas partes. Centrando-se no espaço e na voz narrativa, os dois capítulos da primeira parte buscam mostrar como os romances constituem a relação com a alteridade no território urbano e como constroem, ao mesmo tempo, um discurso sobre a cidade e sobre o delinquente. A segunda parte dedica-se ao imaginário cultural em torno do bandido e da figuração da violência. Assim, o terceiro capítulo aborda marcas do romance noir em O invasor, traços melodramáticos em Rosario Tijeras e elementos de tramas policiais em Un asesino solitario. O quarto capítulo propõe um estudo da elaboração da figura do marginal nas literaturas brasileira, colombiana e mexicana, passando, respectivamente, por tipos como o malandro e o cangaceiro, o pájaro e o bandolero. Por fim, o último capítulo dedica-se ao diálogo desses textos literários com os presentes em outros meios, como a televisão, o cinema e a música / Abstract: This study proposes the reading of three Latin American literary texts: O Invasor, written by Brazilian Marçal Aquino, Rosario Tijeras, written by Colombian Jorge Franco and Un asesino solitario, written by Mexican Élmer Mendoza. Elected analysis axis was the emblematic character figuration, the gunman/assassin. In all three texts, it is possible to highlight similar aspects: the design of a social other, the gangster, opposed by or to which organically relates a representative of the middle/upper class; the construction of a narrative voice that, in different measures, puts strain on that relationship; the configuration of cities crossed by the crime and discourses about violence; recovery of a character, the bandit, present in the earlier literary tradition of each country; the adherence to popular genres such as melodrama and detective novel. Considering these aspects, this thesis is divided in two parts. Focusing on space and narrative voice, the two chapters of the first part aim to show how the novels constitute the relationship with otherness in the urban area and how they build up, at the same time, a speech about the city and the delinquent. The second part is devoted to the cultural imaginary around the bandit and the violence figuration. Thus, the third chapter approaches marks of the novel noir in O Invasor, melodramatic traits in Rosario Tijeras and police plots elements in Un asesino solitario. The fourth chapter proposes a study of the development of the marginal figure in Brazilian, Colombian and Mexican literature, through, respectively, types like the trickster and the outlaw, the pájaro and the bandolero. [pt] Esta dissertação roçará pelo ficcional. Teremos um Vieira personagem que, como ator, aparece em cena já idoso, invadido pelo passado, a recordar, a escrever, trazido pela narradora onisciente que lhe decifra gestos, palavras e até pensamentos. Através dele, conheceremos um pouco de sua vida e da vida de Inácio de Loyola, o seu grande mestre. Analisaremos, desde a sua gênese, a Reforma e a Contra-Reforma, a sua influência sobre Vieira e o seu posicionamento diante dos dois movimentos que mudaram a história da Igreja.. Neste contexto, examinaremos o movimento artístico que tanto influenciou Vieira, o Barroco - movimento de transgressão, com suas tendências e características, e o interesse da Igreja em dele apropriar-se para fazê-lo a sua arma de divulgação. Analisar-se-ão, finalmente, alguns sermões, começando pelos que se intitulam As cinco pedras da funda de Davi, e nestes sobretudo a questão do conhecimento de si mesmo, abordada por Vieira através das parábolas e histórias bíblicas por ele privilegiadas.Nos sermões do Rosário, referentes aos negros, atentarse- á para o forte cunho social e político que lhes é imprimido e a dura crítica aos senhores de engenho.Nos sermões do Mandato, tratar-se-á da contraposição do amor divino ao humano, destacando-se a questão do fino amor, proposta por Vieira, demonstrada através do contraponto entre a fineza dos dois amores, o divino e o humano, este sempre duvidoso e inconstante. / [en] This thesis borders on the fictional. Its protagonist is Vieira, already an old man, haunted by the past, reminiscing and writing, a character created by the omniscient narrator who deciphers his gestures, words and even thoughts. Through Vieira we learn something not only about his own life but also about that of Ignatius of Loyola, his great master. An analysis is made of the Reformation and the Counterreformation, from their very beginnings, and of their influence on Vieira, showing the stands he took in relation to the two movements that changed the history of the Church. In this context we will examine the artistic movement that had such influence on Vieira, the baroque - a transgressive movement, with its trends and characteristics, which the Church tried to appropriate for its own propaganda purposes.Finally, we will also analyze a few sermons, beginning with those known under the title The Five Stones in David`s Sling, with the emphasis on the issue of self-knowledge, which Vieira approaches by means of parables and favorite Biblical stories.In the Rosary sermons, which refer to the condition of black people, we underscore their very strong social and political flavor, with their harsh criticism of the powerful owners of sugar plantations.In the Mandate sermons, the theme is the contrast between divine love and human love; in them Vieira discusses the topic of fine love, demonstrating his views through a counterpoint between the fineness of the two loves, the divine and the human, the latter always doubtful and inconstant.

[pt] Rumor de Arquivo: Rosário Fusco, c est la vie! encena por meio de arranjos, vozes e máquinas mediadoras, um trânsito entre O Agressor, obra de ficção de Rosário Fusco e a vida do escritor. Exploram-se, neste contexto, documentos de arquivo em torno do autor, especialmente inclinado ao recorte de cartas inéditas (e esparsas) - mantidas entre o mesmo e Mário de Andrade, de 1927 a 1940 - sempre a explorar e transformar privações, desvios, apagamentos, invariavelmente impostos à pesquisa biográfica, como nascedouro de invenções casadas com reflexões, acerca do objeto de pesquisa. Diante da ruína de arquivo, o autor, contaminado por sua personagem David, inscreve, no espaço ficcional, seu impulso desejante. Busca, assim, refazer o rastro – ou resistir ao inevitável mal que apaga a memória – deixando um traço de verdade. Ao seguir os passos da Crítica Biográfica, Rumor de Arquivo funda um teatro de, usando expressões de Eneida Maria de Souza e, secundariamente, de Philippe Lejeune, invenção e estetização da memória (...), mentindo-verdadeiramente. / [en] Rumor de Arquivo: Rosário Fusco, c est la vie! stages by means of arrangements, voices and mediatory machines, a transit among the fictional work O Agressor by Fusco and the author s life. In this context, the author s archival documents are explored, aiming specially in a collection of unknown (and sparse) letters, traded between the author and Mário de Andrade, from 1927 to 1940, with the intent to explore and transform privations, deviations, deletions, which are invariably imposed on biographical research, as a source of inventions related to reflections over the object of research and its subsequent manifestations. Rosário Fusco s aggressor impels DAVID, the aggressor, to an open scene, exposed, a denouncer of the mediating voices; Standard, already re-harmonize and altered in its irrepressible virus. Facing a form of archive fever, as a trail is craved, a sparkle of truth ignites in contrast with inherent and unconditional restrictions. Following in the footsteps of Biographical Criticism, Rumor of Archive establishes a theater, and employing the expressions of Eneida Maria de Souza and secondly Philippe Lejeune, invention and aestheticization of memory (…) truthfully-lies.

This thesis uncovers a deep and recurring link between two indigenista texts of the 20th Century: Balâun Canâan, by Rosario Castellanos, and "El problema del indio," by Jose Carlos Mariâategui. Mariategui's text, an essay, takes a deductive approach to prove that the "Indian's problem" in Peru is related to the concentration of land in the hands of his oppressors. Using Marxist theory, Mariâategui shows that only through more equitable distribution of land can the indigenous Peruvian's fortunes be improved. Castellanos chooses the years of the Cardenas presidency (1934-1940) for her novel, a work that deals with the legacy of the Mexican Revolution. Set in Chiapas, Mexico, autobiographical and fictitious elements and characters dramatize a conflict over indigenous rights to land and education on a criollo family's enormous estate. The child’s perspective of war and its aftermath in works of adult prose and film in Mexico and Spain

This dissertation investigates the literary and cinematic use of the child’s perspective to present the Mexican Revolution and the Spanish Civil War and their aftermath in several Mexican, Spanish, and international (Mexican-Spanish collaborative) narratives of the 20th and early 21st Centuries written by adult authors and filmmakers, and targeted for adult audiences. The Mexican narratives are Cartucho and Las manos de mamá by Nellie Campobello, Balún Canán by Rosario Castellanos, and Bandidos, a film by Luis Estrada; selected Spanish works are El espíritu de la colmena by Víctor Erice, Cría cuervos by Carlos Saura, and El sur by Adelaida García Morales; and both international works are films by Guillermo del Toro, El espinazo del diablo and El laberinto del fauno. I attempt to determine the textual or cinematic function of the child as first person (homodiegetic) narrative viewer in these works, and I study the different ways in which this child’s point of view is constructed in order to depict the overwhelming tragedy of war. I note patterns and diversities in subject matter presented by the narrative voice, and observe the characteristics of the child narrative viewer’s world and priorities (as presented by the authors and filmmakers), paying careful attention to how each perceives and understands his or her country’s violent upheaval and its aftermath. The theoretical framework of this investigation draws mainly from trauma theory, Gothic studies, and the tradition of the fairy tale. I illustrate how within the war narrative in addition to the author’s/filmmaker’s desire to recreate the sentiment that a child would evoke in adult readers and viewers, the child narrative viewer is employed for three main reasons: to play upon or against preexisting notions of the child’s innocence; to represent (possibly subversively) the nation; and as therapeutic means of returning to a paradise lost or creating a paradise never experienced. / text

Through the Eyes of Shamans: Childhood and the Construction of Identity in Rosario Castellanos' "Balun-Canan" and Rudolfo Anaya's "Bless Me, Ultima"

This study offers a comparative analysis of Rosario Castellanos' Balún-Canán and Rudolfo Anaya's Bless Me, Ultima, novels that provide examples on how children construct their identity in hybrid communities in southeastern Mexico and the U.S. southwest. The protagonists grow and develop in a context where they need to build bridges between their European and Amerindian roots in the middle of external influences that complicate the construction of a new mestizo consciousness. In order to attain that consciousness and free themselves from their divided selves, these children receive the aid of an indigenous mentor who teaches them how to establish a dialogue with their past, nature, and their social reality. The protagonists undertake that negotiation by transgressing the rituals of a society immersed in colonial dual thinking. They also create mechanisms to re-interpret their past and tradition in order to create an image of themselves that is not imposed by the status quo. In both novels, the protagonists have to undergo similar processes to overcome their identity crises, including transculturation, the creation of sites of memory, and a transition from orality to writing. Each of them resorts to creative writing and becomes a sort of shaman who pulls together the "spirits" from the past, selects them, and organizes them in a narration of childhood that is undertaken from adulthood. The results of this enterprise are completely different in the cases of both protagonists because the historical and social contexts vary. The boy in Bless Me, Ultima can harmoniously gather the elements to construct his identity, while the girl in Balún-Canán fails because of the pressures of a male-centered and highly racist society.
