Mentalitet, pedagogik, historiskt minne : Om utbildningens samtida villkor och processerMorssy Berglund, Maude January 2012 (has links)
This thesis attempts to highlight the contemporary conditions and processes of education in order to define what kind of education dominates the 21st century School. What mentality and pedagogy are governing the design of the 21st century School? How can the historical perspective help to explain the conditions and processes in contemporary education? This thesis studies these questions by analyzing and interpreting active educational discourses from the beginning of the 21st century. The study is based on critical hermeneutics. The concepts are mentality, inherent pedagogy and historical memory. The material underlying the study consists of 351 news articles about education in the Swedish newspaper Västerbottens-Kuriren. The interpretation process has been carried out at different stages, in order to describe, explain and understand active educational discourses. This interpretation applies three complementary methods - text analysis, hermeneutic interpretation and critical discourse analysis. The findings indicate a mentality containing three main trends – equal togetherness, independent learning and independent freedom of choice, which arises from an inherent pedagogy containing two main trends - competence-developing and a performance-enhancing process. The contemporary mentality and pedagogy are emerging in the gap between Piaget´s and Skinner's educational ethos. At a shorter historical perspective, mentalities in the 1990s bear major structural similarities to the mentalities formed in the 21st century. In parallel, inherent pedagogy in the 1990s shares less structural similarities to the pedagogy formed in the 21st century. At a longer historical perspective, one will notice major structural similarities between the 18th century and the 21st century. What distinguishes one period from another is that the 18th century was a class society with teachers who had low ambitions, whereas the 21st century is a democratic society with teachers who have high ambitions. What unites the periods is that both the 18th and the 21st centuries witnessed great spatial and economic change. They are centuries of coercion and competition as well as centuries of freedom. In addition, they share the qualities of distance and control, and they both treat children as adults. Finally both centuries face unfinished policies with contradictory trends. From a media perspective, the debates from the 1990s and the editorials and facts from the 21st century news articles bear no similarities in terms of ideological positions on education.

How do you do it anyway?Schmidt, Morena Azbel January 2005 (has links)
This study investigates the translation process of three translator students and their production of translated non-fiction texts. The students are followed from an initial examination task over a period of time of 5 years. The translated texts produced during this period are analysed with selected methods of text analysis, which is compared to their source texts. The text analysis focuses on certain grammatical features that are known to generate problems for translators with the language pair Russian – Swedish. The results of the analysis show that the systematic differences in the languages involved are not as problematic as expected for the participants. Writing skills in the TL, translation principles and initial beliefs as well as the individual’s approach concerning the task of a translator turn out to have the most significant influences on the participants’ performance. In a complementary analysis, introspection data obtained from concurrent verbalisations are analysed according to a model that allows indicating and classifying marked processing in the translations. The role of contrastive language knowledge is especially emphasised in this part of the study. The results are put in relation to each other to obtain a picture of the individual development of the participating translator students. The three case studies show that each participant developed his/her competence during the time of the study. They also show that this development stays within a conceptual frame set by the participants before they started their training as translators. The implications for translator training that can be drawn from this study are mainly concerned with the importance of writing skills in the TL, contrastive language knowledge and the importance of questioning individual beliefs and principles concerning the task of the translator as well as approaches to translating.

Jämställdhet och läromedel : En kvalitativ textanalys av historieläromedelför årskurs 4-6 / Equal opportunities and textbooks : A qualitative text analysis of history textbooks in grade 4-6Demir, Gabriel January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this essay was to critically research the historical teaching materials through agender perspective. The essay highlights how the chosen characters such as Gustav Wasa,Gustav II Adolf and Princess Christina are represented in the text during a period of 20 years, more specifically year 1980 until 2000. To be more explicit, I have chosen to analyze seventext books as study material that are currently utilized or have previously been in use, withinthe subject of history for 4 to 6 grade students. The main reason of this study was to determinewhether the quality of the message conveyed about the characters mentioned above matchwith the study materials on gender equality issue as of the steering documents’ requirements. The result stated amongst other, that the male characters had been distinguished as, leaders, active, energized and intelligence. Queen Kristina, the female character has beendistinguished as, immature, childish and sensitive. One of my conclusions was that the studymaterial displayed a very traditional and stereotype conception. The report also illustrate thatthe male had always constituted the ideal leadership and been portrayed in the literature assuch.

Abstract Title: Communicating Ethics – An Analysis of Ethical Codes in Sweden’s Largest Banks ( Att kommunicera etik – en analys av de svenska storbankernas etiska riktlinjer) Number of pages: 49 (without enclosures) Author: Karolina Svensson Tutor: Peder Hård af Segerstad Course: Media and Communication Studies D Period: Spring 2006 University: Division of Media and Communication, Department of Information Science, Uppsala University. Purpose/Aim: The main purpose it to answer the main question how Sweden’s largest banks are communicating ethics externally? This question generates a number of questions with relevance to the purpose and subject of this thesis. The ambition is to answer all of these questions in order to achieve the main purpose. Material/Method: The method used for this study is a qualitative text analysis. Applying this method is also done through using a model presented by Norman Fairclough. This model belongs to the tradition of critical discourse analysis. The qualitative method used gives possibilities to present and study a few elements more closely. This is done by applying the purpose and furthermore the questions of relevance on the ethical codes presented externally by Sweden’s largest banks. A couple of complementary interviews have been used when considered needed. Facts about the banks are also used along with a theoretical background to the subject. Main results: Ethics seem to be an important part of our society. Therefore companies seek to integrate it in the everyday business life. The main question raised in this thesis is answered by applying a number of questions to the text material. The analysis of this shows that: The banks communicate to and about a number of stakeholders surrounding the organization. They communicate mainly about and to employees and customers but also about and to a number of other groups such as partners and public authorities. Along with communicating the ethical responsibility the banks integrate legal responsibilities in their ethical codes. Both economic and philanthropic responsibilities are being integrated to some extent. The banks ethical codes consist of how to act in order to achieve good consequences, what principles are considered to be good, how to be a good person (employee) and how to discuss what good ethics are. The banks also communicate about a set of moral standards: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Keywords: Ethics, moral, banks, communication, stakeholders and qualitative text analysis.

Läromedel i Samhällskunskap - En textanalys ur ett mångkulturellt samt interkulturellt perspektivBoman, Helena January 2006 (has links)
This survey is a text analysis of 4 teaching books during a ten years period in Social studies from a multicultural and intercultural perspective. Taking as a starting point that society and the school in today’s Sweden are multicultural and in need of more intercultural teaching I explore teaching books in social science to se how they relate to Sweden as a multicultural society and their way of relating to intercultural teachings and compare them. The questions asked are: How do the different books describe the multicultural society in Sweden? What kind of intercultural tools are found in the books? And are there any similarities or differences among these books? The theories used as a starting point are reformulated by the author after theories of Von Wright and Lahdenperä to fit in to the context of a text analysis of teaching books and the method used is a content analysis with its purpose of describing how the books are constructed. I have found that two older books from ten years ago are not describing Sweden as a multicultural society and are not including people with different origin as a natural part of the society. I have also found that there are not much intercultural tools used for increasing the reader’s intercultural understanding. In two older books from 1994 there is a tendency to stereotype people with different origins in and to not describe them as participant members of society. The newer books from 2004 and 2005 are more describing Sweden as a multicultural society both directly and indirectly and they are including people with different origins to be a participant part of the society. It is also reflected that there is always a risk for stereotyping different groups in society by discussing problems but that there are different ways considered to avoid that. The books from today are both using more intercultural tools to increase the reader’s intercultural understanding in different ways.

Privatekonomi i läroböcker : En läroboksstudie i samhällsvetenskap om privatekonomins kvantitet och innehåll / Private economy in textbooks : A textbook study in civics about the private economy’s quantity and contentBrodin, Gustav January 2013 (has links)
The debts of children and teenagers that are registered at the Swedish Enforcement Authority, have in the past few years hit an all-time high. School has a responsibility to try and stop this disturbing development. This essay is about private economy and its existence in three different textbooks for civics 1A1 and the Swedish high school. The goal is to investigate which support these books can give teachers and students. Private economy is a recent addition to the Swedish teaching program 2011 and is now read by all high school students. I have been able to identify the existence of private economy in textbooks by creating a code schedule. This way I have been able to decide the quantitative by simply counting words. The review is categorical in two parts where the second part illuminating the content and tries to make conclusions by different types of text analyses. The conclusion of this essay is that the books have its differences, both strengths and weaknesses. It is mostly the use of language that differs. A textbook in civics does not demand great text understanding. Two of the books handle this well, while the third one does not.
