Visbys zoologiska läroverkssamling : En studie av en zoologisk skolsamling / Visbys zoological secondary school collection : A study of a zoological school collection

Aaro Thörneby, Polly January 2024 (has links)
Under denna tid tycks samlingsförvaltningen ha blivit bristfällig. / In this study the zoological school collection from the former Visby läroverk has been analyzed. The purpose is to examine how it has been managed historical and what pedagogic significance it has today. This is done  to illustrate the pedagogic ideals in schools and natural science teaching that have affected and continues to affect the collection. This has been studied through a literature study, an interview and a visit to the museum storage building and the museum where the collection now is managed. The study has shown that the collection that started in 1829 at Visby läroverk is today in majority cared for by Gotland’s Museum. Since 1985 it has been managed by nature conservators, but before this it has been cared for by mostly teachers and assistant professors. The last documented acquisition was during the 1950s. During this time the care of the collection seems to have been insufficient. A lot of foreign material was donated during the 1800s, but acquisitions during the 1900s was primarily of local breeds. Today the collection is a pedagogical tool for imparting knowledge in school and teaching history. It is a document of the nature and culture of Gotland. Today it is used in exhibitions to spread information about natural science, cultural history and ethnology.

I funktionalismens spår : Om ett 60–talskvarter i Visby

Mavian, Malin January 2015 (has links)

Karlsson, Mikael January 2012 (has links)
The 19th century was a time when a large number of voluntary associations were being formed both in Sweden and in Europe as a whole. Their ambition was to engage in health care and poor relief issues as well as in the educational system. Furthermore, the general idea was to promote temperance and foster a sense of thrift among the poor and the working class population. While the starting-point of the thesis was the question as to why the voluntary associations founded various charitable activities as well as how the philanthropy was designed, organised and modified throughout the century, the aim has been to elucidate the motive force and incentives for their social reforms. In order to answer the two main questions of the dissertation, the association De Badande Wännerna (the DBW), which engaged in several philanthropic activities in the Swedish province of Gotland as early as the 1810s, has been selected for a case study. In the literature a number of different reasons have been stressed as to why voluntary associations chose to engage in charitable activities. In order to shed light on what factors that underlay their philanthropic work, the process of negotiation regarding the various institutions established by the DBW, as well as the practical layout of the establishments, have been analysed from the perspectives of a theoretical model based on affinity groups. The study has shown that the incentives of philanthropy were complex. Furthermore, the incentives changed concurrently with the expansion of the public poor relief and educational system, which from the middle of the 19th century took over many of the humanitarian efforts hitherto run by the voluntary associations. The result of this development was that the voluntary associations created new spheres of activity. They continued to fulfil important societal functions, but their establishments also fulfilled a more internal desire for pleasure and delights.

Categorising a historic building stock - an interdisciplinary approach

Berg, Fredrik January 2015 (has links)
The EU Directive for building energy performance requires all member states to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the existing building stock. A key instrument in achieving this is using building stock modelling as a tool for planning and development of policies. But since the building stock as a whole is a complex element to study, new interdisciplinary methods are required to facilitate a sustainable management of the built heritage. Moreover, as the goal of energy conservation is brought into a supposed conflict with the built heritage, the field of integrated conservation has a responsibility to be a part of the development of such methods. This thesis accordingly investigates state-of-the-art building stock models from several disciplines with the aim of developing a new method for categorising historic building stocks. The historic buildings in the case study of World Heritage Site Visby, Sweden, were surveyed and triangulated using e.g. on-site inspections, digital cadastre maps, the national EPC database and existing inventories, ultimately leading to 1048 buildings from before 1945 being included in a new inventory. This inventory, along with tools acquired from previous buildings stock models, enabled an iterative process to develop and validate the new categorisation method. The proposed method itself is based on the principal idea of categorisation where the building stock is represented by a limited number of categories which allow for further typology investigations, e.g. energy modelling, and extrapolation back to district level. The results show that the building stock can be represented by nine physical categories covering 86 % of the total number of buildings, and 70 % of the entire building volume. To encompass aspects regarding cultural heritage significance, the respective historic character of the buildings are assessed and described by combining statistical information and the Conservation plan of Visby. In all, the method shows to provide a supportive platform for investigations of a trade-off between energy conservation on one hand and building conservation on the other. / EFFESUS / Spara och Bevara

La notion de contrat de transport maritime : étude de droit comparé en droit panaméen, droit français et droit anglais / The concept of maritime transport contract : comparative law study in panamanian law, french law and english law

Porras Saldana, Rebeca 08 December 2017 (has links)
In the contract of international maritime transport of goods, the bill of lading is the key contractual document and the difference with the charter contract is the charter-party, in the relations between the charterer and the charterer. The bill of lading issued in execution of a charter agreement governs the relationship between the shipper and the carrier, on the one hand, and between the carrier and the consignee, on the other hand, and transmitted to a bona fide third party carrier. Interpret the different areas of application of the systems of the International Conventions, in particular the last existing Convention in form international standard: the UNCITRAL Convention of the United Nations (the Rotterdam Rules of 2008), as well as the others known: the Brussels Convention of 1924, the Hague / Visby Rules (The Brussels Protocol, 1968 and the Monetary Protocol (RHV)), Hamburg Rules (RHAM) 1978 United Nations Convention on the Rights of Education (Panamanian, French and English) and the principles present in the legal systems that are part of our analysis; aspects relating to the concept, nature and functions of the bill of lading in of the charter party and other contracts of international maritime law, the purpose of which is of a value title. First, the genesis and evolution of the contract for the international maritime transport of goods under bill of lading will be analyzed. The uniformity of the international legal instruments and the different areas of application of the Hague Rules, The Hague-Visby Rules, the Hamburg Rules and the Rotterdam Rules on the Uniform Bill of Lading Law. Obligations subject to international conventions. Second, the development will be on the charter contract. The Gotlandic rural militia : A study of the invasion of Gotland 1361 in response to a modern narrative

Neijman, Thomas January 2017 (has links)

Seaworthiness and due diligence in the wake of the grounding of CMA CGM Libra : An analysis of the relationship between English and Swedish maritime law andthe understanding of the concepts of seaworthiness and due diligence in accordancewith opinion of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

Thool, Fredrik January 2023 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate the consequences of a judgement issued by UK Supreme Court in November 2021, known within the shipping industry as the "CMA CGM Libra" case. This case is perceived by the industry to have affected hte the understanding of the concept of seaworthiness and due diligence, as they should be understood within the context of the Hague Rules and Hague Visby Rules.  The focus lies on the understanding of these two concepts within an English as well as Swedish context, in order to further conclude whether the Judgement may have changed the definitioin of these concepts in any way; from the perspecteve of English as well as Swedish maritime law. This also includes a thorough discussion about the extent of influence English maritime law has on Swedish maritime law, if any.  This text is suitable for anyone with an intererst in or objective to learn more about seaworthines and due diligence as these concepts shall be understood from an English and/or Swedish point of view, and/or in getting better aquainted with the reasoning of the UK Supreme Court in the Libra judgement. As mentioned, the relationship between the two legal systems (including Denmark and Norway) will also be discussed. Students of maritime law will likely be best suited to read and understand this thesis and the conclusions thereof.

Avträdets arkitektur / Architecture of the privy

Sidgwick, Alexandra January 2020 (has links)
The thesis "Architecture of the privy" is based on both questioning our contemporary use of the flush toilet as well as using the privy as a generator for the project. The outhouse is a forgotten building, which can tell a lot about how one lived in the past, but above all an example of an architecture that brings us closer to nature. It is primarily this aspect that has been the base for the architectural question. The working question of this thesis has been: How can an architecture, which uses in the traditional outhouse as a generator, help to minimise society's water consumption and at the same time add sensual qualities to the architectural experience in a house? The research has included how purification of water works, the environmental consequences they bring and what the alternatives are, as well as the privy’s function, appearance and historical values. The work has resulted in a new typology, a kind of larger row house, in Gotland, Sweden. Thanks to a common, more local, wastewater treatment plant and a toilet solution based on vacuum with urine separation, one can better utilise resources and reduce the use of fresh water. The building is in many ways inspired by the appearance and function of the privy, for example by integrating cold and warm spaces and a constant proximity to nature.
