La presente investigación diacrónica se ocupa de las formas de tratamiento alocutivo del español en la publicidad de prensa de Mendoza, Argentina, entre los años 1885 y 2014. Dado que la publicidad se presenta como un fenómeno de por sí íntimamente ligado a los modos de ser, estar y pensar en una sociedad, explorar cómo se emplea el tratamiento en este género sirve para arrojar luz sobre las pautas de uso en un momento dado y los cambios que se han ido produciendo en el tiempo. Nuestro objetivo ha sido, entonces, trazar un panorama histórico del tratamiento alocutivo en la zona a partir de su uso en anuncios de prensa. Para esto, exploramos la presencia del tratamiento, su codificación lingüística, y su relación con el rubro, el destinatario y el emisor, valiéndonos de un corpus de 750 avisos publicitarios extraídos del diario Los Andes de Mendoza. El corpus abarca 130 años, desde los primeros años de existencia del periódico y hasta la actualidad, divididos y analizados en tres periodos: 1885-1889, 1950-1954, 2010-2014. Los resultados corroboran que las pautas y los cambios de uso son consistentes con lo que rige para el género publicitario, pero también con el contexto social de cada época así como con los cambios sociohistóricos que van modificando el modo de ver y dirigirse al otro, y que dan cuenta de una consolidación y aceptación progresiva hacia la variedad propia, también en la lengua escrita.

Implementing an Address System in Uganda : How will it Affect Commerce? / Hur påverkas handeln av införandet av ett adressystem i Uganda?

Uganda is a low-income country in eastern Africa which has experienced social and economic improvements since the mobile phone was launched (Deloitte, GSMA, and Cisco, 2012). The positive attitude towards mobile solutions contributes to the country´s growth in the international world, even if some circumstances are blocking the full potentials (African Development Bank, 2014). Current research regarding Uganda´s need for an address system is lacking. Based on six (6) interviews with people who have worked with business environments and infrastructure, this thesis examines how a mobile-based address system can enhance Uganda’s trading situation via improving time efficiency, opportunities, accessibilities, collaboration, and delivery. The formation of a physical address system has started in Kampala, the capital, but the results from this thesis further emphasize the importance of a national wide, all-compassing address system that reaches all citizens. The conclusion of this thesis shows how the standard of living, the business environment, the public sector, entrepreneurs, market entry, services, and commerce would benefit from the implementation of an address system in a sustainable way in Uganda. It occurs mainly through improved infrastructure, delivery system, navigation, service availability, and transportation. This has a potential to improve time and cost efficiency for daily activities. / Uganda är ett låginkomstland i östra Afrika där både ekonomisk och social utveckling har frodats sedan lanseringen av mobiltelefoni (Deloitte, GSMA, and Cisco, 2012). Att ugandier är positivt inställda till utvecklingen och användningen av mobilteknologi är väsentligt för att den internationella handeln ska kunna växa. I dagsläget finns olika faktorer som hindrar utveckling i landet (African Development Bank, 2014). Det saknas aktuell forskning gällande Ugandas behov av ett adressystem. Den här uppsatsen är baserad på intervjuer med 6 personer som har arbetat med affärsklimat och infrastruktur. Denna kvalitativa studie undersöker hur ett digitalt baserat adressystem kan bidra till en förbättrad handel för Uganda genom förbättrad tidseffektivitet, fler möjligheter, tillgänglighet, samarbete och leveranser. Lanseringen av fysiska adresser har börjat i huvudstaden, Kampala. Däremot tyder resultatet från den här uppsatsen på att ett nationellt etablerat, nåbart och flitigt använt adressystem skulle gynna Ugandas ekonomi. Slutsatsen är att levnadsstandard, affärsklimat, den offentliga sektorn, entreprenörskap, marknader, tjänster och handel skulle främjas på ett hållbart sätt av en rikstäckande implementering av ett adressystem. Det sker genom förbättrad infrastruktur, leveranssystem, navigationsmöjligheter samt tillgänglighet till tjänster och transport. Detta förväntas resultera i ökad tids- och kostnadseffektivitet för dagliga affärsaktiviteter.

"Stand back and admire - then eat." : Translating explicit and implicit instructions in recipes

This study examines explicitness and implicitness in the instructions of eight English baking recipes and their translations into Swedish. The aim is to investigate whether the degree of explicitness changes in the translation. Additionally, the translation of reader address is examined to determine if it leads to an increase or decrease of the recipe explicitness. Illocution and speech act theory provide a theoretical framework for the analysis. In the examination of translated instructions, the study presents five analyzed verb constructions: the imperative, the passive, the modal auxiliary, the finite verb and the adverbial -ing-clause. In the examination of reader address, the study analyzes the translation of the English subject pronoun you. The results show that the translation keeps close to the ST structure and often renders the instructions with the same verb construction. However, there are instances for each analyzed feature where the translation provides more explicit instructions than the ST. Further, the results indicate that the translation of reader address is closely linked to the translation of the instructions; if the ST verb construction is altered in the TT, the ST reader address may either be translated or omitted in the TT. Additionally, the translator needs to interpret whether the address is aimed at a specific reader or a group of readers, as Swedish can translate the English pronoun you into either du, man, ni or det. The translation of the recipes was performed by the author of this paper, a beginner translator, which may have affected the results.

Les attitudes des Québécois et Québécoises envers les différentes approches linguistiques en publicité au Québec

Les normes langagières étant en constante évolution au sein de notre société, les entreprises québécoises doivent adapter leur discours publicitaire pour plaire à leur public cible en tenant compte des normes et tendances actuelles. De ce fait, cette étude se penche sur les attitudes des consommateurs et consommatrices de différents profils sociodémographiques par rapport aux approches linguistiques adoptées en publicité écrite au Québec. Les approches étudiées concernent le choix de pronom d’adresse, le niveau de langue ainsi que l’intégration d’anglicismes dans les annonces publicitaires. Ainsi, 192 personnes locutrices natives du français québécois ont répondu à un questionnaire sociolinguistique accessible en ligne afin de mettre en relation leurs caractéristiques et leurs préférences à l’égard des trois aspects susmentionnés. L’analyse réalisée est de type quantitatif. Les résultats nous permettent de constater que l’âge est la variable la plus significative pour expliquer les préférences des participant·e·s. Notamment, il y est démontré que les répondant·e·s de 35 ans et moins jugent moins sévèrement les anglicismes et perçoivent plus favorablement le tutoiement en publicité que leurs aînés. Bien que les Québécois·es apprécient un niveau de langue familier ou populaire dans les publicités de produits ou services ludiques, un niveau de langue tout au moins standard est préféré pour les produits ou services plus luxueux. En somme, la présente recherche apporte une contribution à la littérature au niveau des préférences linguistiques des Québécois en publicité et elle permet de démontrer l'importance des choix linguistiques lors de la conception des slogans publicitaires. / As language norms are constantly evolving in our society, Québec companies must adapt their advertising discourse to appeal to their target audience by taking into account current norms and trends. Therefore, this study examines the attitudes of consumers of different socio-demographic profiles with respect to the linguistic approaches adopted in Quebec print advertising. The approaches studied concern the choice of pronoun of address, the level of formality of the message, and the integration of Anglicisms in advertisements. Thus, 192 native speakers of French in Quebec answered an online sociolinguistic questionnaire in order to relate their characteristics and preferences to the three aspects mentioned above. The analysis carried out is quantitative. The results show that age is the most significant variable in explaining the participants' preferences. In particular, respondents aged 35 and under judge words borrowed from English less severely and perceive the less formal pronoun of address in advertising more favorably than their elders. While participants evaluate a colloquial or popular level of language in ads for fun products or services positively, they prefer a standard level of language for more luxurious products or services. In sum, this research contributes to the literature on the language preferences of Québécois participants in advertising and demonstrates the importance of targeting the right linguistic forms in the design of advertising slogans.

Internet of Things (IoT) ger stora möjligheter att samla in data för olika syfte som till exempel att estimera antalet personer för att styra värmen i ett rum. Vidare så kan IoT-system automatisera uppgifter som kan hjälpa oss människor. Den här studien syftar till vilken typ av data som kan vara intressant att samla in för att kunna estimera antalet personer på en offentlig plats. Det handlar även om hur känslig data som samlas in kan anonymiseras. För att göra detta så valdes det att undersöka hur MAC-adresser från Bluetooth-enheter skulle fungerar för att uppskatta antalet personer. För att samla in MAC-adresser så utvecklades ett proof of concept-system där en Android-applikation samlade in MAC-adresser som anonymiserades innan de lagrades i en databas. Applikationen anonymiserar den unika MAC-adressen enligt tre nivåer med olika säkerhet. Fältstudier gjordes där antalet personer räknades visuellt sedan gjordes anonymiserade insamlingar av MAC-adresser. Slutsatsen var att Bluetooth blir svårt att använda för att estimera antal personer eftersom alla inte har Bluetooth på. Applikationen som utvecklats påvisar att data kan samlas in säkert och på så sätt inte kränka integritet. / Internet of Things (IoT) provides great opportunities to collect data for different purposes such as to estimate the number of people to control the heat in a room. Furthermore, IoT systems can automate tasks that can help us humans. This study is aimed at the type of data that can be interesting to gather in order to estimate the number of people in a public place. It is also about how sensitive data can be anonymized when gathered. To do this, Bluetooth devices was chosen for investigating how the MAC addresses would work to estimate the number of people. For collecting MAC addresses a proof of concept system was developed, where an Android application was used to collect MAC addresses. These MAC addresses were anonymized before being stored in a database. The application anonymize the unique MAC address according to three levels of security. Field studies were conducted as the number of people were counted visually then anonymous collection of MAC addresses were made. The conclusion was that Bluetooth will be difficult to use for estimating the number of people because not everyone has Bluetooth on. The application developed demonstrates that data can be collected safely and thus does not violate privacy.

The New Voseo Culto: An Exploration of the Complexity of Familiar Address in Chilean Spanish

In Chilean Spanish, second-person address is non-uniform in that the vos competes with the conventional tuteo and a third, mixed form has emerged. To add to this complexity, the form speakers choose has been shown to correspond to socioeconomic strata. Upper classes use tú, lower classes use vos, and young, middle class speakers choose the mixed form in which the verb is conjugated according to the voseo and is used with the pronoun tú. The causes and effects of this second-person schism in Chile are explored here, as well as the resulting sociolinguistic issues and consequences. In a study of printed media, television and interviewed informants, an attempt is made to confirm and validate the complexity of address in Chilean Spanish and determine the degree of the mixed voseo‟s pervasion into the mainstream.

The set up of this equipment is based on a personal computer or in a limited form by a small connected display.
