Engagement et militantisme dans le Docker Noir (1956), les Bouts de bois de Dieu (1960) et Xala (1973) de Sembène Ousmane / Commitment and militancy in the Black Docker (1956), God's bits of wood (1960) and Xala (1973) by Sembène OusmaneBabatunde, Samuel Olufemi 04 1900 (has links)
Text in French / Member of the union of black workers in the port of Marseille, in France, and an eyewitness to the misery of black workers in the European environment, Sembène Ousmane, in 1956, wrote, using his personal experiences, his first book entitled The Black Docker. In this novel, he describes the sufferings of the working class, the struggle between colonisers and colonised. In 1960, he uses as a pretext the strike of the Senegalese railway workers in 1937 to write a book entitled God's Bits of Wood. In this story where two forces clashed, on one hand, the colonised struggling against the colonial system and want, at all costs, to improve their living conditions, and on the other hand, the colonisers that are in support of their colonialist ideals and refuse the changes, the author tells the epic story of strikers in Senegal and their relentless struggles against the colonisers to change their living conditions for better. In 1973, an eyewitness of the daily realities of his native country, Senegal, after gaining national sovereignty, Sembène Ousmane wrote and published a book entitled Xala. In this book, he describes the evils of neo-colonialism and criticises the new African middle class, born after independence.
After reading these novels, one notes that Sembène Ousmane, a defender of freedom, denounces the injustices done to the blacks, both in the colonial era as well as in the post colonial period. This is why from a book to another, he continues tirelessly his struggle against colonialism and neo-colonialism, evoking the sufferings and tragedies endured by the Africans. It occurs constantly in his imaginary creations, a theme, or better still a dialectical; commitment and militancy. What does he mean by « commitment » and « militancy » ? How do these two concepts manifest themselves in the works of the Senegalese writer? What strategy does he propose to the oppressed in the struggle against the oppressors? What means has he put at the disposal of the disinherited struggling to break the yoke of oppression and exploitation in order to achieve freedom and equality? Previous issue date: 2010-11-25 / This study aim identifying, through the lens of Human Resources Managers, the correlation between managers' negotiation competencies and the relationship built with their teams. It also aims to probe the existence of a modulating effect between this relationship and the respective team' s pressure perception. One of the challenges that managers face is how to keep a team motivated and mobilized in an increasing pressure environrnent. In the first and second chapter we introduce the theme and define the Problem to be studied. In the third chapter, we walked through labor, organization and human history willing to ground in a timeline the joumey in the search ofbalance laborlaborer, the mankind's place in shaping this history and some important thinkers of people management. This chapter is a door opener for the next one where we study stress, particularly, occupational stress. In this fourth chapter we point the difference between pressure - present in the environrnent - and stress, derived from the individual interpretation. Our interest in this subject comes from the observation that pressure arises when the market suffers a retraction but also arises when it is heated, so, it increases every time. So, if there is a correlation between how teams or a person 'perceives' his leader and the 'pressure around', this information could be useful for people management, particularly addressing occupational stress. We deepen the concept of Social Support, the net that protects the employee in high-pressure contexts with an emphasis on the leader's role as the main source ofthis support. In chapter 5 we deepen in conjlict due to its' impact on occupational stress leveIs. The workplace relationship is, by its nature, a long term relationship and that makes conflict management a relevant issue on manager's agenda. However, the appropriate conflict management depends on the diagnosis (technical approach) and the confidence leveI build in the relationship (relationallevel). Although we are aware that significant part of the conflicts are related to the corporate structure and strategy, we purposely drove our attention to managers and middle leaders that are part of more representative part of the company' s leadership group aiming to provoke ideas that could contribute to the relationships and results improvement. In chapter six we present the Methodology used and in the seventh chapter we discuss the field research results carried with big companies' Human Resource managers. In this chapter we seek, through HR's sight, a perception over the impact of the leadership comparing them using a subjective perception of higher or lower negotiation capabilities with their teams. The research used a flexible grid supported by a semi-structured questionnaire. Data were decoded by Content Analysis method. Due to the sample size, a statistic treatment was not necessary. The evaluation allow infer that there is a straight relationship between a leader behavior over his team stress perception at the workplace. The study pointed the need for a deeper analysis of the issue considering that the literature and the initial results show an important role of immediate report over the team stress leveI perception. Concluding this study, the research offers questions regarding the company and the leader role on dealing with teams under constant pressure. No primeiro capítulo e no segundo capítulos fazemos a introdução e a definição do Problema, os objetivos e delimitações do estudo.

The use of biofumigation crops as an alternative to Methyl Bromide for the management of the root-knot nematode in greenhouse cucumber productionHaroutunian, Garabed 25 March 2013 (has links)
Root-knot nematodes remain one of the most serious problems faced by greenhouse farmers of Lebanon and the Middle East region. In the past, soil fumigation with methyl bromide has been considered as the best control measure against root-knot nematodes. However, in the light of the global phase out of methyl bromide, finding efficient and viable alternatives is an essential necessity. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the two biofumigation crops Oil Radish (Raphanus sativus oleifera) and Arugula (Eruca vesicaria sativa) applied with and without plastic tarp, separately and in combination with Oxamyl in the management of the root-knot nematodes in greenhouse cucumber crops. Additionally, this study aimed at assessing the financial feasibility of the biofumigation technique with the two cops used and the final profitability of these green manure crops in terms of cost to benefit ratio as compared to methyl bromide. For this purpose, three field experiments were carried out in commercial greenhouses situated on the coastal zone of Lebanon. In both experiments A & B consistent results were recorded in terms of production of significantly higher yields and reduction of nematode population with the biofumigation crops used whether with or without plastic cover, as compared to untreated fallow. As to the results achieved by the biofumigation crops with respect to methyl bromide, in experiment A yield produced by methyl bromide was significantly higher than oil radish with plastic cover. However, no significant difference was found between reduction of nematode population resulting from methyl bromide and oil radish with plastic cover. Difference was significant between methyl bromide and oil radish without plastic cover in both yield and reduction of nematodes. In experiment B no significant difference was observed in neither yield nor reduction of nematode population between any of the two biofumigation crops used with plastic cover and methyl bromide. These differences were significantly in favor of methyl bromide only when oil radish was used without plastic cover. In experiment C where Vydate (Oxamyl) was incorporated at the rate of 1 liter per 1,000 m2 to all treatments, there was no significant difference in neither yield nor reduction of nematode population between any of the two biofumigation crops used with or without plastic cover.Cost-benefit analysis made on all treatments applied in the 3 experiments showed that in all cases, all treatments applied, whether chemical, non-chemical (with or without plastic cover) or in combination have produced higher net profits than methyl bromide, even when yield produced by methyl bromide was significantly higher.Use of plastic for covering oil radish has generally produced better results in terms of production of higher yields, better reduction of soil populations of root-knot nematodes and leading to reasonable increases of net profits.Based on these findings and in the light of global phase out of methyl bromide, it can be concluded that the use of oil radish and arugula as biofumigation crops with plastic cover can be considered as an alternative management tool for the root-knot nematode in greenhouse cucumber production under Lebanese conditions.

Bullying: Out Of The School Halls And Into The WorkplaceCooney, Lucretia 01 January 2010 (has links)
The primary purpose of this study is to identify those people at most risk of being bullied at work. While much research is being conducted on school bullying, little has been conducted on workplace bullying. Using data gathered from a 2004 study conducted by the National Opinion Research Center for the General Social Survey, which included a Quality of Work Life (QWL) module for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), linear regressions indicated significant findings. As predicted, workers in lower level occupations, as ranked by prestige scoring developed at National Opinion Research, are more likely to be victimized. Data also suggest that being young, Black, and relatively uneducated may contribute to being bullied in certain situations. Future research is needed to examine influences of socio-economic, legal, and other demographic factors that may predict the chance of being bullied.
