When they multiply statements in communication, they insinuate thousands of potential universes and become the most impressive creation machine of collective human imaginary. At the same time, in the middle of a contemporary subjectivity crisis, it is also being discussed the human being singularity process. Therefore, this study has the communication targeted for consumption as object, and will analyse how expressions affect the desiring being as a receptor of produced subjectivity; it will identify how brands appropriate mythological aspects of narratives in the communication strategy; and finally, it will investigate the consumption as a ritual that links the reality with the virtual world proposed in advertising communication. Authors such as Guattari and Deleuze are being referenced in order to explain the singularity concept and the contemporary subjectivity crisis we are living in. After linking them with an explanation towards the concept of desire, it will be understood the structure of mythological narratives. By means of Campbell and Eliade it will be seen how symbolic expressions still have the power to bring meaning to day-to-day life. Ultimately, it will be explained how brands use mythological devices to influence people in their daily consumption decisions; how brands take their own products to territorialize their conceptual universe and how they create a ritual mechanism to link reality and potentiality affecting and being affected by human being / Esta dissertação tem como principal objetivo revelar como marcas dão significado ao consumo por meio da utilização de narrativas mitológicas em sua estratégia de comunicação do dia a dia. Ao multiplicarem seus enunciados insinuam milhares de universos potenciais de referenciação e se tornam a mais impressionante máquina de criação do imaginário coletivo de nosso tempo. Ao mesmo tempo, em meio a uma crise de subjetividade atual, discute-se o que caracteriza o não nivelamento do ser (singularidade). Por meio do estudo do objeto da publicidade voltada para o consumo, portanto, a dissertação irá analisar como matérias de expressão afetam o ser desejante como terminal receptor de subjetividade fabricada; identificará como marcas se apropriam de fragmentos de narrativas mitológicas em sua estratégia de comunicação; e por fim, investigará o consumo como o elo ritual entre o mundo real e conceitual proposto nos filmes publicitários. Para contextualizar a crise da subjetividade atual e entender os processos de singularização do ser trabalharemos com a leitura Foucaultiana de Deleuze e os conceitos de Guattari. Após relacioná-los com os movimentos do desejo, será feita uma pausa para entender a estrutura de narrativas mitológicas. Por meio de autores como Campbell e Eliade será visto como expressões simbólicas ainda atuam como forças de pensamento capazes de reconduzir o sentido nos dias atuais. [pt] Este trabalho analisa a representação estética do discurso do humanitarismo a partir do papel do humanitário como personagem principal da narrativa heroica da política internacional. Entendido como um conjunto de técnicas e procedimentos, o humanitarismo classifica e reforça a disciplina relacionada à política internacional por meio do comportamento individual e coletivo. Esta tese argumenta que essa organização pode ser identificada por meio da análise desse discurso, especialmente nas imagens relacionadas ao humanitarismo e normalmente utilizadas em campanhas humanitárias por organizações humanitárias internacionais e organizações não governamentais. Campanhas que exploram a identificação e reflexão do espectador com a iconografia utilizada tendem a contribuir para essa construção do humanitário como o herói da política internacional, ou seja, o indivíduo que salva e que soluciona os problemas e as crises do internacional, como conflitos, sofrimento, fome, pobreza e catástrofes ambientais. As imagens do herói humanitário contribuem para a sua perpetuação como um mito moderno, um modelo de conduta da ação individual em relação à política internacional e ao sofrimento distante que ironicamente mobiliza uma moral coletiva através da gratificação autocentrada. / [en] This work analyses the aesthetic representation of the discourse of humanitarianism based on the role of the humanitarian as the main character of the heroic narrative of international politics. Understood as ensemble of techniques and procedures, humanitarianism classifies and reinforces discipline related to international politics through individual and collective behavior. This dissertation argues that this organization can be identified through the analysis of this discourse, especially in the pictures related to humanitarian politics and usually used on humanitarian campaigns by international humanitarian organizations and nongovernmental organizations. Campaigns that explore the identification and reflection of the spectator to its iconography tend to contribute to this construction of the humanitarian as the hero of the international politics, meaning the individual that saves and solves the problems and crises of the international, such as conflicts, suffering, hunger, poverty, and environment crises. The images of the humanitarian hero contribute to its perpetuation as a modern myth, a model of conduct of the individual action regarding international politics and distant suffering that ironically mobilizes a collective moral through self-centered gratification.

This text is to the observation and analysis of the importance of the Romaria da Nossa Senhora Medianeira de Todas as Graças for the city of Santa Maria - RS, and how she became a saint of popular devotion. Through an ethnographic study conducted between the years 2009 and 2010, with different actors, such as: the local Catholic Church, local faithful people, pilgrims and tourists; seeking to interpret the different motivations for the participation in the Pilgrimage. And at last, a reflection is carried on how this religious event through its myth and ritual influences on the development of religious tourism in the city of Santa Maria-RS. / Esta dissertação se propõe à observação e à análise da importância da Romaria da Nossa Senhora Medianeira de Todas as Graças para a cidade de Santa Maria- RS, e de como ela tornou-se uma santa de devoção popular. Através de um trabalho etnográfico desenvolvido entre os anos de 2009 e 2010, com diferentes atores, tais como: Igreja Católica local, fiéis locais, peregrinos, romeiros e turistas, procuro interpretar as diferentes motivações para a participação na Romaria. E, por fim, encaminhar uma reflexão de como esse evento religioso, através de seu mito e de seu rito, influencia no desenvolvimento do turismo religioso na cidade de Santa Maria-RS.

[pt] Manuel de Sousa Sepúlveda pode ser considerado como um dos mais desafortunados navegantes da História trágico-marítima portuguesa, devido à sua lastimável desventura em terras africanas, onde o cavaleiro de honrada fama, após o naufrágio de seu galeão, viu seus filhos e mulher padecerem e morrerem. Nota-se nas diversas representações de Manuel de Sousa Sepúlveda, seja na épica camoniana, seja nos relatos de naufrágios, na lírica e nas narrativas pós-modernas, o estabelecimento de um personagem histórico-literário que permeia o imaginário coletivo português, sendo um dos representantes dos infortúnios decorrentes da vã cobiça. Ora como herói desafortunado nos textos tradicionais, ora como um anti-herói nos contemporâneos, sua constante presença ao longo da Literatura Portuguesa inscreve-o como um dos grandes mitos do imaginário lusitano. / [en] Manuel de Sousa Sepulveda can be considered one of the most unfortunate sailors of the tragic Portuguese maritime history, due to his severe doom on African soil – in which the knight of honored fame, after the wreck of his galleon, saw his wife and children starve and die. As observed in several representations of Manuel de Sousa Sepulveda, even in the camonian epic, or in accounts of shipwrecks, in the lyric and postmodern narratives, the creation of a historical and literary character that pervades the Portuguese collective imagery as one of the representatives of the misfortunes related to vain greed. Sometimes as an unfortunate hero in traditional texts, sometimes as an anti-hero in the contemporary ones, his constant presence along all Portuguese Literature immortalizes him as one of the greatest myths of the Lusitanian imagery.

Trata-se de um estudo sobre a poética de Patativa do Assaré (Antônio Gonçalves da Silva). O viés se refere às "marcas" do sagrado em sua obra. A abordagem tem como ponto de partida a oralidade, tendo em vista que a poesia em questão é essencialmente oral. Em seguida, faz-se um perfil do poeta destacando aspectos considerados relevantes em sua trajetória. Segue-se a apresentação de suas principais obras, antes "armazenadas"na mente e no coração do vate, agora convergindo para a letra no papel, bem como para outras mediações, por exemplo, na música, no cinema, no teatro, na internet. Finalmente, discorre-se sobre os aspectos do sagrado, considerando o corpus de poemas escolhido. O objetivo desta pesquisa é investigar a função e importância do mito na obra de Howard Phillips Lovecraft, escritor norte-americano considerado um dos mais importantes artífices da literatura fantástica moderna, notadamente por seu mais importante e influente grupo de narrativas, um grupo de doze histórias conectadas entre si conhecido como \"ciclo de Cthulhu\", justamente o centro de nossa pesquisa, que pretende demonstrar como o uso de um mito cosmogônico (aquele que narra a origem e a ordenação do cosmos), como base desse conjunto de narrativas, é um elemento fundamental do mesmo, o qual é uma crítica radical, ainda que niilista e reacionária, ao mundo administrado pela racionalidade técnica. Nossa intenção final é revelar o sentido da obras máxima de Lovecraft, seu valor como uma intensa e dialética crítica ao mundo industrial e urbano moderno. / The aim of this research is to investigate the function and the importance of the myth in the work of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, known as one of the most important writers of modern fantastic literature, mainly for his most important and influential group of narratives, a set of a dozen interconnected stories known as \"The Cthulhu Cycle\". This cycle is the subject of our work, which intends to demonstrate how the application of a cosmogonic myth (one that narrates the origin and ordering of the cosmos) as the basis to this set of narratives is an essential element for a radical critique, albeit nihilist and reactionary, to a world ruled by technical rationality. Our final purpose is to reveal the meaning of Lovecraft´s masterwork and its value as an intense and dialectical critique to the urban and industrial modern world.

Histórias de deuses, monstros, mulheres guerreiras, e outros entes da floresta, ainda habitam o imaginário do caboclo, do ribeirinho. Fruto de uma mescla de crenças indígenas, européias e africanas, grande parte dos habitantes da região acredita que a natureza e os seres que nela habitam interferem e participam do seu destino. Em um Auto Popular existente em várias partes do Brasil, eles conseguem se fazer ouvir e incorporar suas histórias, concepções mundo, cotidiano e, principalmente a sua arte, transformando-o em um evento único, onde o "velho e o novo" se unem, em uma manifestação híbrida, de características contemporâneas e pós-modernas. Esta pesquisa teve como proposta uma abordagem dos Bois-Bumbás Garantido e Caprichoso sob o olhar das artes visuais. Esses bumbás se apresentam, anualmente, em uma competição por ocasião dos festejos juninos, no festival folclórico de Parintins, Amazonas. Para uma maior abrangência e compreensão do objeto de estudo, composto de vários códigos, artísticos, sociais e culturais, usamos algumas pontuações analíticas de Carl Gustav Jung e semióticas de Charles Sanders Peirce / Abstract: The inhabitants of the Amazônia, besides their contacts with the modern world, they still preserve most of the mythological indigenous culture and some others that arrived with the civilization. Stories about gods, monsters, warrior¿s women and other forest beings fulfill the imaginary of the native people called ¿caboclos¿ and ¿ribeirinhos¿.A mixture of indigenous, European and African believes influenced a large number of local inhabitants. They believe that nature and its beings interfere in their destiny. A popular ¿auto¿, found in different parts of Brazil, allows them to incorporate their stories, their world conceptions and mainly their art into a unique event in it the ¿new and the young¿ melt themselves in a hybrid manifestation faced by up-to-date and post-modern characteristics. This work was carried out considering the visual art approaches on two folkloric events named ¿Bois Bumbás Garantido and Caprichoso¿. These events are performed every year during the month of June at the Parintins Folk Festival, State of Amazonas, Brazil. For the best understanding of the different artistic, social and cultural codes found in this work, the psychoanalytical standards were according to Carl Gustav Jung and the semiotic ones according to Charles Sanders Peirce / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes

This study focuses on the heroine's mythical-psychological trajectory in the romance A correnteza, by Alina Paim, based on the hero's and heroine's mythical trajectories proposed by Joseph Campbell and Annis Pratt, as well as on the psychological implications of it as collective unconcious archetypes presented by Carl G. Jung and Erich Neumann. As the main character lives its individuation process, a tourtuous path that implies introspection, self analysis, symbolic death and rebirth, we could notice other myths that sustein the plot. Between them, we highlight, Medea's myth, based on Olga Rinne's view of the topic. We concluded that after going down her memories and estimate wins and loses, the heroine illuminated by the real Self becames an Old Wise. / Este estudo interpreta a trajetória mítico-psicológica da heroína no romance A correnteza, escrito por Alina Paim. Para tanto, estaremos embasados nas trajetórias mítica do herói e da heroína propostos, respectivamente, por Joseph Campbell e Annis Pratt, bem como nas implicações psicológicas do herói enquanto arquétipo do inconsciente coletivo apresentadas por Carl G. Jung e Erich Neumann. À medida que a protagonista vivencia seu processo de individuação, caminho tortuoso que implica introspecção, auto-análise, morte simbólica e renascimento, nos deparamos com outros motivos míticos que sustentam a narrativa. Dentre eles, destacamos, principalmente, o mito de Medéia, à luz das reflexões de Olga Rinne. Concluímos que após descer às profundezas da memória e avaliar perdas e ganhos, a heroína iluminada pelo Si-mesmo verdadeiro torna-se uma Velha Sábia.

[pt] Durante muito tempo as palavras utilizadas para referir-se a oriente e ocidente foram exótico, civilizado, arcaico ou desenvolvido. Isso porque as imagens atribuídas a ambos eram de atrasado x avançado como o pseudo antagonismo entre mito e logos. No entanto, a falência do discurso cartesiano de verdade, como narrativa organizadora do cenário contemporâneo, abre espaço para uma nova abordagem do mito como parte atuante na leitura do mundo. Nesta tese nos propomos a utilizar a recuperação do mito através da metáfora ainda presente no discurso filosófico feita por Hans Blumenberg, e fazer um paralelo com a recuperação da metáfora feita por Paul Ricoeur para um approach entre oriente e ocidente pelo viés da literatura midiatizada que identificamos na obra do renomado diretor japonês de animação Hayao Miyazaki. / [en] For a long time the words used to refer to East and West were exotic, civilized, archaic or developed. That s because the images assigned to both were backward vs. advanced as well as the pseudo antagonism between myth and logos. However, the failure of the Cartesian discourse of truth as a structuring ordering narrative of the contemporary world opens a door to a new approach to myth as an active part in the reading of the world. This thesis proposes to use the restoration of the myth through metaphor as in Hans Blumberg s philosophical work and to form a parallel with Paul Ricouer s restoration of the metaphor, employing this method as an approach between East and West to delve into the work based on the literary world of renowned Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki.
