[pt] ENVIRONRC: INTEGRANDO COLABORAÇÃO E COMUNICAÇÃO MÓVEL A APLICAÇÕES DE ENGENHARIA OFFSHORE EM AMBIENTES DE REALIDADE VIRTUAL / [en] ENVIRONRC: INTEGRATING COLLABORATION AND MOBILE COMMUNICATION TO OFFSHORE ENGINEERING VIRTUAL REALITY APPLICATIONSBERNARDO FRANKENFELD VILLELA PEDRAS 20 July 2016 (has links)
[en] Offshore Engineering visualization applications are, on most cases, very complex and should display a lot of data coming from very computational intensive numerical simulations. To help analyze and better visualize the results, 3D visualization can be used in conjunction with a Virtual Reality (VR) environment. The main idea for this work began as we realized two different demands that engineering applications had when running on VR setups: firstly, a demand for visualization support in the form of better navigation and better data analysis capabilities. Secondly, a demand for collaboration, due to the difficulties of coordinating a team with one member using VR. To meet this demands, we developed a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) capable of adding collaboration capabilities to any application. The idea behind our solution is to enable real-time data visualization and manipulation on tablets and smartphones. Such devices can be used to help navigate the virtual world or be used as a second screen, helping visualize and manipulate large sets of data in the form of tables or graphs. Furthermore, we want to allow collaboration-unaware application to collaborate with as little reworking of the original application as possible. Another big advantage that mobile devices bring to the engineering applications is the capability of accessing the data on remote locations, like on oil platforms or refineries, and so allowing the field engineer to check the data or even change it on the fly. As our test application, we used ENVIRON, which is a VR application for visualization of 3D models and simulations developed in collaboration with a team from the Institute Tecgraf of PUC-Rio. We added this solution to ENVIRON and it was tested with an experiment and during a review process of Offshore Engineering using VR Setups (Power wall and CAVE).

[en] BRAZILIAN COMMUNICATION MEMORIES: A STUDY ABOUT CONSUMPTION REPRESENTATIONS FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE / [pt] MEMÓRIAS DA COMUNICAÇÃO BRASILEIRA: UM ESTUDO SOBRE REPRESENTAÇÕES DO CONSUMO ENTRE IDOSOSISABEL CRISTINA FEIX 14 July 2022 (has links)
No período
[en] The main objective of this thesis is to analyze some economic and social
transformations that took place in Brazil in the mid-twentieth century, with the main
focus on the consolidation of communication and mass consumption. Based on
ethnographic research, the work consists of interpreting the narratives about the past
of a group of elderlies who live nowadays in a high-standard geriatric residential
located in an upscale neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. Merging interviews and
participant observation, I propose an immersion in the informant s narratives to
discover symbolic processes that fund some collective representations of these
themes. Thus, I investigate the memories of a group of people born between 1924
and 1952, framing them as a repository of collective representations, in which
imagined ideas about the period are brought to light. In this sense, if the decades
from 1930 to 1960 are portrayed by historians and sociologists as of economic
development and advance of the industrialization, in this work I intend to examine
them from the point of view of the informants, that at that time were just curious
young people, attracted by an increasingly diversified supply of goods and services.
For that reason, new social dynamics were established and revealed through the
images of everyday life reported by them, including habits of distinction and
consumption rituals intensified by newspapers, radio, magazines, cinema, and
television. In the period studied, it is possible to identify an intrinsic alliance
between the expansion of mass communication and consumption, in which
idealized images of development and modernization contributed to the
consolidation of a life imagined by capitalism.

[pt] EXPANSÃO DA VIDA: NARRATIVAS IMERSIVAS EM JOGOS ELETRÔNICOS E O CONSUMO DE EXPERIÊNCIA EM MUNDOS VIRTUAIS / [en] LIFE EXPANSION: IMMERSIVE NARRATIVES IN ELECTRONIC GAMES AND THE EXPERIENCE CONSUMPTION IN VIRTUAL WORLDSPABLO DE MACEDO SILVEIRA VALLEJOS 28 December 2021 (has links)
[en] For a long time games have been studied by theorists, in order to understand how this practice moves in the individual s imagination, in social relationships, in consumption habits, in the settings of a culture, values. beliefs, modes of political action. Since mediums converged inside the Internet, in XX and XXI century, and the information society penetrated cyberspace, it is observed that many organizations reaches multimillionaires profits with electronic games as graphics are improved, conversation and interaction mechanisms are amplified, ludic and complex narratives are presented with the premise of immersion. The players, therefore, spend hours, connected to computers and consoles, living fictional and plots, going through quests and journeys, making friends and engaging in universes and characters fabricated by modern technologies that have the ambition to simulate the reality. Therefore, the problem of the study lies in the boundaries between the real and the simulation and the places and the virtual, which is more blurred, considering the investments of an industry that designs products that emulate the feeling of being in a world or with characters and plots that sound believable. Reflect, also, on case studies, about how successful market titles have been constructed and promoted to attract and acquire individuals for frequent gameplay. By applying a questionnaire, interviews and observations, understand how fans can connect to maps, places and avatars online, as if it were a new and better reality. The bibliographic review went through works of authors such as Marshall McLuhan, Manuel Castells, Pierre Levy, Jane McGonigal, Johan Huizinga, Jean Baudrillard, among others.

[pt] O INACESSÍVEL À FALA: ASPECTOS CLÍNICOS E ETOLÓGICOS DA COMUNICAÇÃO NÃO VERBAL EM PSICANÁLISE / [en] THE INACCESSIBLE TO SPEECH: CLINICAL AND ETHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION IN PSYCHOANALYSISJULIA BRAGA DO PATROCINIO FERNANDES 09 June 2021 (has links)
[en] This paper aims to investigate non-verbal communication displayed in clinical settings from the perspectives of relational psychoanalysis and ethology. After revisiting Freud’s biological perspective on neurosis from his first theoretical constructions, we will initially set a dialogue between psychoanalysis and ethology through concepts that prove to be interchangeable and fruitful to both sciences. This discussion brings us to the dilemmas inherent to the concept of drive and the role of representation in Freudian metapsychology. Hereafter we will go deeper into relational psychoanalysis and attachment theory from which we derive important considerations about primitive aspects of the psychic constitution and non-verbal communication. The sensory dimension of the experience and the intersubjective processes will be addressed as essential factors in the individual s development. Finally, we will offer special attention to the management of nonverbal communication in clinical settings. We will then highlight through an eto-psychoanalytic approach of primitive emotional suffering the sensory phenomena displayed in certain psychopathological situations. We will discuss the phylogenetic adaptations acquired throughout the evolutionary process and how they introduce a new understanding to communication processes mediated by the body that may assist the analyst in understanding the sensory marks left by early trauma. We will defend the hypothesis that in every subject there is a nucleus inaccessible through speech which manifests itself clinically and how this nucleus is especially present in the analysis of critically ill patients whose psychic impairment is found at deeper levels of the personality.

[en] ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AS AN EXTENSION OF HUMAN CREATIVITY: IMPLICATIONS OF INTELLIGENT ALGORITHMIC SYSTEMS IN THE FIELD OF DESIGN / [pt] INTELIGÊNCIA ARTIFICIAL COMO EXTENSÃO DA CRIATIVIDADE HUMANA: IMPLICAÇÕES DE SISTEMAS ALGORÍTMICOS INTELIGENTES NO CAMPO DO DESIGNMARCELA DICK CROSMAN 15 July 2021 (has links)
[en] Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving and changing culture and society, many times without being noticed. From simple applications such as the autocomplete function on smartphones to most complex ones, such as features that automatically create moving films using personal videos and photos, technology is becoming alive. The current study aims to understand how Intelligent Algorithms may impact
Design fields, specially on Visual Communication. Through bibliographic research and analysis of several machine intelligence softwares, the study has demonstrated the most immediate consequences of using
intelligent algorithms systems in the Design field. The first one is Automation, which simplifies the operational work, and in that way unleashes the professional to focus on the critical analysis of the results. At the same time, the recent technology advances make possible what the research calls Experimentation – access to multiple information and to other aesthetics to visually communicate ideas. Together, both
Automation and Experimentation open unimaginable possibilities to the Design field, and this alone could have the power to bring major changes to professional practice. However, the study has concluded that the implications go further: the new Artificial Intelligence technologies have the potential to work as an enhancement of human creativity, increasing the technical, critical and analytical contribution of
Design professionals to the society, enabling the creative work to reach previously unthinkable results.

[pt] QUAL É A SUA PRAIA?: HISTÓRIAS DE VIDA, MEMÓRIAS E CONSUMOS DE TRÊS JUVENTUDES CARIOCAS DOS ANOS 1980 / [en] WHAT IS YOUR BEACH?: LIFE STORIES, MEMORIES AND CONSUMPTION OF THREE YOUTHS FROM RIO DE JANEIRO IN THE 1980PABLO RAMOS CAMILO 05 December 2023 (has links)
três camadas sociais e bairros distintos: Santa Cruz, Ipanema e Urca.
[en] The main question of this Master s thesis is the different social representations of youth in the 1980s in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The research is part of the experience of MuJuCa- Museu das Juventudes Cariocas, a project linked to the Department of Social Communication at PUC-Rio. There were selected three female informants from Rio de Janeiro, who completed 20 years old in the 1980s and who belong to three social strata and different neighborhoods: Santa Cruz, Ipanema and Urca.Methodologically, in addition to the bibliographical review in dialogue with authors such as Serge Moscovici, Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu and José Machado Pais, among others, this research took as its method the qualitative perspective with in-depth interviews, based on three reports extracted from life stories, memories and consumption, both from media products and life styles, from specific experiences of Rio s youth. Even so, a participant observation was carried out in the implementation of a virtual museum. As a result, it was possible to construct a diversity of experience cities in Rio de Janeiro, evoked in the informants reports, constituting three social scenes. It is to infer that there is not only a possible imaginary of Rio youth from the 1980s, adopted in common sense as a brand linked to rock, the political issues of the time and the beach. The daily experience and the repertoires accumulated in circulation through the different cities represented point to continuities, but also to ruptures marked by contexts crossed by a single generation, but by many social fields.

[pt] CARACTERIZAÇÃO DA INFLUÊNCIA DA VEGETAÇÃO NOS SISTEMAS DE COMUNICAÇÃO MÓVEIS CELULARES EM ÁREAS URBANAS / [en] CHARACTERIZATION OF HOW THE TYPICAL VEGETATION OF URBAN ENVIRONMENTS AFFECTS CELLULAR MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEMSJULIO CESAR RODRIGUES DAL BELLO 17 April 2006 (has links)
recebido.
[en] The knowledgment of how the environment affects radio
propagation in order to increase the Cellular Móbile
Communication Systems capacity and coverage hás lead to a
grreat number of related studies. As can be seen in the
technical literature, these studies have been concentrated
on the characterization of the influence of buildings on
signal propagation. For this characterization, the
vegetation, as a part of the urban environment, was not
considered. T. Tamir has proposed, based on the rigorous
propagation theory of multiple layers due to L. M.
Brekhovskikh, some practical approximations which has
allowed him to develop models for radio links operating on
forest environments. His models were developed for the 2 a
200 MHz range fixed links and hence the fast and slow
fading conditions, generally present on mobile systems,
weren´t considered. Even so, some authors use Tamir´s
model extensions to account for the coverage of cellular
mobile systems without any experimental proof.
This work has addressed the characterization of how the
typical vegetation of urban environments affects Cellular
Mobile Communication Systems. Great efforts have been made
on the fast fading studies through statistical small-scale
variations due to the multipath propagation condition. The
Tamir models were tested against the experimental data
collected in Campo de Santana.
The received signal dependence on transmitter height,
frequency and polarization were determined. Also the
models proposed by R. Lang for incoherent reception inside
forests, were investigated.

[en] Starting from the premise that design is a thinking process comprising the creation of an entity, according to Miller (1988), I have conducted a participatory research with third semester undergraduate students of Social Communications at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro . The research is focused on interactive processes of teaching/learning linked to the New Digital Technologies for Information and Communication (NTDICs). As a professor of three classes of Communication Skills II, I have developed the professortexto.blog as a mediation tool, which has provided me with a digital interface to interact with my students. This work describes and analyzes the interdisciplinary experience lived, simultaneously, by the participants in the classroom and virtual ly. It concludes that teachers who manage NTDICs play the role of cognitive designers as they are supposed to plan and maintain dialogical bridges to guide and direct the students’ research projects in order to develop their knowledge.

This study has, as main objective, to identify the aspects
that affect the
construction of an integrated action between the
subcultures legal and financial, in
the electro intensives organizations. To reach such
result, a revision of literature
on culture, subculture, organizational behavior and
integration between groups
was made. It was identified, in the set of these
companies, the ones that would be
interesting to be studied. Then, many interviews were made
with executives of
these departments in those different organizations. The
answers were interpreted
through the content analysis. This analysis was made
following the
bibliographical revision, inside the cultural dimension,
and was based on the
integration subject. The results point the following
factors that make the
integrated action between these two departments difficult:
non defined objectives;
lack of planning; particular objectives instead of
organizational objective; lack of
global vision; use of old fashioned rules / change
barriers; non defined attributions
and powers; communication difficulties; lack of individual
and team training; lack
of control (external); deficient internal management; non
structured processes;
centralization; isolation of departments; bureaucracy /
extreme formality;
unfamiliarity with the business; do not accept the
personal and organization
deficiencies; internal fight / power dispute; lack of
commitment; lack of
motivation; distrust; lack of intermeshing and lack of
ethics.
