La réécriture du théâtre chinois et l'évolution du genre tragique dans l'Europe des Lumières : de "L'Orphelin de la maison de Tchao" (XIIIe siècle, traduction par le Père Prémare 1731) de Ji Junxiang à "L'Orphelin de la Chine" 1755 de Voltaire et à "The Orphan of China" 1759 de Murphy / The rewriting of Chinese theater and the evolution of the tragic gender in Enlightenment Europe : from The Orphan of the house of Tchao by Ji Junxiang (translated from Chinese into French by Father Premare in 1731), to The Orphan of China (1755) by Voltaire and to The Orphan of China (1759) by Murphy

Tang, Guo 29 September 2014 (has links)
Since the introduction of the first Chinese drama in Europe in the eighteenth century, the Chinese subject exerts a strong attraction on European playwrights whose dramatic rewritings reflect a sensitive evolution of the tragic gender. The aim of this thesis is to show the process of theatrical rewriting, which through the authors’ aesthetic and ideological choices, demonstrates their passion for exoticism, their attachment to tradition and their desire for innovation. This thesis basically takes a transtextual and transcultural approach. The modes of rewriting from Ji Junxiang’s The Orphan of the house of Tchao, to Voltaire’s L’Orphelin de la Chine and to Murphy’s The Orphan of China is tackled by analyzing the relation maintained by authors in accordance with their texts-sources. This dramaturgical study shows that the rewriting of the Orphans, as intercultural and interlanguage theatrical practice, leads to a profound change in the nature of the theatrical text. This thesis discusses firstly the historical context, secondly the dramatic elements of Chinese tragedy’s rewriting in the European Enlightenment, in order to better grasp the meaning given by Voltaire and Murphy to this Chinese subject, which they renovate in depth.

Previtera, Roberta 01 December 2014 (has links)
This work aims to analyze the influence of cinema on Latin American literature. The central hypothesis is that as soon as cinema, by essence a mass art form, started to win its place in the system of the arts, it influenced the way writers represent reality. The enthusiasm that cinema awoke in many Latin American writers since the beginning, and the lack of critical studies on the subject, make Latin America a very fertile ground for our research. Our work is separated in three sections. First, we introduce the issue at hand, paying special attention to semiology and narratology works starting from the 1960’s. We use the structuralist separation between “story” and “narration” to establish two different levels of borrowing, which we analyze separately in the second and third sections. In the second section, we consider the concept of influence from an intertextual perspective, observing how certain literary texts have assimilated stories previously told by cinema, integrating them under the form of insertion or through a process of rewriting. In the third section we study cinematographic influence from an intermedial perspective, by analyzing cases in which cinema is considered in its specificity as a medium. In these cases, borrowing doesn’t take place at the level of the story, but at that of the narration and the authors attempt to reproduce in writing a series of narrative methods used for the screen.

UMORISMO E DOPPIAGGIO: CENSURA E MANIPOLAZIONE NELLA RISCRITTURA DELLE SITCOM AMERICANE

ANELLI, LAURA 13 September 2017 (has links)
The purpose of the present thesis is to analyse the translation for dubbing of humour based on taboo topics – such as, for example, references to sex, sexuality, obesity, alcohol and drug addiction – present in four American sitcoms, namely Friends, Will & Grace, How I Met Your Mother and 2 Broke Girls. Moving from the theory of rewriting introduced by Lefevere (1992), the present research aims to identify cases of manipulation and censorship in the Italian translation of the above-mentioned audiovisual texts. Following a descriptive translational approach, the English dialogues have been compared to their Italian translation. Results show that censorship and manipulation exist in the translation for dubbing even though it is not always possible to distinguish between the two. Indeed, not only the several specialists involved in the dubbing process, such as translators, dubbing directors, dubbing actors, adaptors, but also the powers linked to patronage (Lefevere 1992) can influence in several ways the translation process. However, a diachronic comparison of the analysed sitcoms demonstrates that censorial and manipulative phenomena in the translation of taboo humour are decreasing compared to the past, and this is probably due to a change in the receiving culture ideology.

Sibuet Vallette Viallard, Sandrine 04 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this research-creation master thesis is to rewrite the theatrical aspects of the fairy tales. While storytelling and theatre are a priori two literary genres distinct in origin, nature and mode of expression, they nevertheless share common qualities that facilitate the transgression of generic boundaries. So playwrights have sometimes ventured to offer adaptations of fairy tales for the theatre. This is the case, for example, of Joël Pommerat, who recently proposed scenic transpositions of three traditional fairy tales, revisiting and updating themes and characters. In this essay, I am first interested in the elements that promote the theatrical rewriting of fairy tales. I then ask myself how Pommerat, who bases his reflection on the contributions of philosophy, sociology and psychoanalysis, prepares his shows ; what I illustrate by highlighting the author's reflections on the work of mourning in his play Cinderella. Like Pommerat, I finally present a psychoanalytical study of the characters in the Grimm brothers' Snow White tale. The creation I propose consists of a theatrical transposition of the Grimm brothers' Snow White tale, which moves situations and characters into the contemporary world of business.

Evoluční návrh využívající přepisovací systémy / Evolutionary Design Using Rewriting Systems

Nétková, Barbora January 2016 (has links)
This master’s thesis proposes a method for the evolutionary design of rewriting systems. In particular, genetic algorithm will be applied to design rewriting rules for a specific variant of Lindenmayer system. The evolved rules of such grammar will be applied to generate growing sorting networks. Some distinct approaches to the rewriting process and construction of the sorting networks will be investigated. It will be shown that the evolution is able to successfully design rewriting rules for the proposed variants of rewriting processes. The results obtained exhibit abilities to successfully create partially growing sorting networks, which was evolved to grow for fewer inputs and in subsequent iterations grows up to 36 inputs.

Translation or rewriting of proper names : A study of children’s literature across a century / Översätting eller omskrivning av egennamn : En studie på barnlitteratur under ett sekel

Sand, Veronica January 2021 (has links)
The translation of names is a topic for discussion within many fields, no less so within translation studies. Furthermore, the translation of proper names in children’s literature is a topic with on-going changes. There is a divide between those who believe that the names should be translated into proper cultural equivalent and those who believe it is time to have faith in children being able to handle foreign names. That is what this study will focus on. Approx. 15 names from seven children’s books from 1865 to 2011 were studied to conclude that there seems to be a greater faith in children’s ability to handle foreign names. Three languages were compared English, Spanish, and Swedish with the majority of the 337 names studied being kept in their original format, with spelling intact.

Gramatiky s omezenými derivačními stromy / Grammars with Restricted Derivation Trees

Koutný, Jiří January 2012 (has links)

Rule-Based Software Verification and Correction

Ballis, Demis 07 May 2008 (has links)
The increasing complexity of software systems has led to the development of sophisticated formal Methodologies for verifying and correcting data and programs. In general, establishing whether a program behaves correctly w.r.t. the original programmer s intention or checking the consistency and the correctness of a large set of data are not trivial tasks as witnessed by many case studies which occur in the literature. In this dissertation, we face two challenging problems of verification and correction. Specifically, verification and correction of declarative programs, and the verification and correction of Web sites (i.e. large collections of semistructured data). Firstly, we propose a general correction scheme for automatically correcting declarative, rule-based programs which exploits a combination of bottom-up as well as topdown inductive learning techniques. Our hybrid hodology is able to infer program corrections that are hard, or even impossible, to obtain with a simpler, automatic top-down or bottom-up learner. Moreover, the scheme will be also particularized to some well-known declarative programming paradigm: that is, the functional logic and the functional programming paradigm. Secondly, we formalize a framework for the automated verification of Web sites which can be used to specify integrity conditions for a given Web site, and then automatically check whether these conditions are fulfilled. We provide a rule-based, formal specification language which allows us to define syntactic as well as semantic properties of the Web site. Then, we formalize a verification technique which detects both incorrect/forbidden patterns as well as lack of information, that is, incomplete/missing Web pages. Useful information is gathered during the verification process which can be used to repair the Web site. So, after a verification phase, one can also infer semi-automatically some possible corrections in order to fix theWeb site. The methodology is based on a novel rewrit / Ballis, D. (2005).

Welgemoed, Leana 17 January 2014 (has links)
The dissertation examines how Deon Opperman portrays and regenerates the revolt motif in his Afrikaner dramas, in order to reflect the changing social environment. Chapter 1 provides an overview of revolt as lifestyle and as motif in Afrikaans drama. Chapter 2 offers a theoretical examination of The theatre of revolt (Brustein 1991), a discussion of concepts such as rewriting, multiculturalism, modern diaspora and globalization, as well as a contextual study of Deon Opperman’s Afrikaans oeuvre. Chapter 3 (Donkerland) focuses on revolt within the postcolonial rewriting of Afrikaner history. Chapter 4 (Kruispad and Ons vir jou) deals with social revolt within a multicultural milieu, whereas chapter 5 discusses Kaburu as a reflecting text and addresses the issue of the modern diaspora as a reaction to political transition. The dissertation reaches the conclusion that Opperman is using South African theatre as a platform for revolt as well as for transformation. / Afrikaans & theory of Literature / MA (Afrikaans en Algemene Literatuurwetenskap)
