Development Of An Activity Based Risk Assessment Tool Using Integrated Duration

Ozer, Ahmet Hamdi 01 September 2006 (has links) (PDF)
As the construction sector is becoming more competitive in recent years, it has become more important to estimate the duration and cost of the construction projects and to calculate the risks&rsquo / effects correctly. The aim of this thesis is to estimate the duration and cost of construction projects accurately using an activity based risk assessment method which is based on the integrated duration &ndash / cost influence network diagram model proposed by Tah and Poh (2006). Within the context of this thesis, a web based risk assessment tool using the integrated duration &ndash / cost influence network at an activity level is developed to estimate the possible cost overrun and delay in construction projects. Risk breakdown structure for construction projects is created which enables the evaluation of risk effects at an activity level. The developed tool uses Monte Carlo Simulation Technique and Risk Rating Method. The results of the developed tool are compared with those of traditional methods and the reliability of the developed tool is validated.

Analysing Design Parameters Of Hydroelectric Power Plant Projects To Develop Cost Decision Models By Using Regresion And Neural Network Tools

Sahin, Haci Bayram 01 December 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Energy is increasingly becoming more important in today&rsquo / s world. Ascending of energy consumption due to development of technology and dense population of earth causes greenhouse effect. One of the most valuable energy sources is hydro energy. Because of limited energy sources and excessive energy usage, cost of energy is rising. There are many ways to generate electricity. Among the electricity generation units, hydroelectric power plants are very important, since they are renewable energy sources and they have no fuel cost. Electricity is one of the most expensive input in production. Every hydro energy potential should be considered when making investment on this hydro energy potential. To decide whether a hydroelectric power plant investment is feasible or not, project cost and amount of electricity generation of the investment should be precisely estimated. This study is about cost estimation of hydroelectric power plant projects. Many design parameters and complexity of construction affect the cost of hydroelectric power plant projects. In this thesis fifty four hydroelectric power plant projects are analyzed. The data set is analyzed by using regression analysis and artificial neural network tools. As a result, two cost estimation models have been developed to determine the hydroelectric power plant project cost in early stage of the project.

Identification récursive de systèmes continus à paramètres variables dans le temps / Recursive identification of continuous-time systems with time-varying parameters

Padilla, Arturo 05 July 2017 (has links)
The work presented in this thesis deals with the identification of dynamic systems represented through continuous-time linear models with slowly time-varying parameters. The complexity of the identification problem comes on the one hand from the unknown character of the parameter variations and on the other hand from the presence of noises of unknown nature on the measured signals. The proposed solutions rely on a judicious combination of the Kalman filter assuming that the variations of the parameters can be represented in the form of a random walk, and the method of the instrumental variable which has the advantage of being robust with respect to the nature of the measurement noises. The recursive algorithms are developed in an open-loop and closed-loop identification setting. The different variants are distinguished by the way in which the instrumental variable is built. Inspired by the solution developed for time-invariant linear systems, an adaptive construction of the instrumental variable is suggested in order to be able to follow the evolution of the parameters as well as possible. The performance of the developed methods are evaluated using Monte Carlo simulations and show the supremacy of the proposed solutions based on the instrumental variable compared with the more classical least squares based approaches. The practical aspects and implementation issues are of paramount importance to obtain a good performance when these estimators are used. These aspects are studied in detail and several solutions are proposed not only to robustify the estimators with respect to the choice of hyperparameters but also with respect to their numerical implementation. The algorithms developed have enhanced the functions of the CONTSID toolbox for Matlab. Finally, the developed estimators are considered in order to track parameters of two physical systems: a benchmark available in the literature consisting of a bandpass electronic filter and a throttle valve equipping the car engines. Both applications show the potential of the proposed approaches to track physical parameters that vary slowly over time

Γαλάνη, Σπυριδούλα 31 January 2013 (has links)
The present work by highlighting the crisis of moral values, the depreciation of the historically and culturally validated values, with an impact mainly on Education, intends to present proposals - solutions, resorting to a leading personality of the Ancient-Greek world, Aristotle. It develops his views on Education, the moral and intellectual virtues and friendship, adding broad dimensions to their content. If we pass his proposals about education into the established system, we will be talking about education which is not subordinated to expediency. If the teacher followed the above virtues and the learner assimilated them, then they would both acquire a solid skill basis so that they would be in a continuous reflection and self-reflection. The notion of friendship could positively transform the socio-political, economic and educational system. The final chapter of the work presents the denunciatory criticism by modern scholars (Marcuse, Lyotar) about the consequences of the pathogenic system affecting the field of education. There is one critical question concerning whether education constitutes mature political subjects or if it comes to formulate competitive economic beings.

Aristote : Du ciel III–IV : introduction générale, édition critique, traduction et commentaire / Aristotle : On the heavens III–IV : introduction, critical edition, translation and commentary

Boureau, Mai-Lan 02 December 2019 (has links)
This work proposes a critical edition, a French translation, an introduction and a commentary of books III and IV of Aristotle’s treatise On the heavens. We construct a stemma codicum through a systematic study of the genetic relationships of the sixty extant manuscripts from Byzantium combined with sources of indirect tradition. This in turn allows to select ten independent witnesses whose variants structure the transmission lineage of the treatise along two families. We augment the apparatus criticus with all variant readings transmitted through Simplicius’ commentary and the lost source of William of Moerbeke’s translation, as well as the most relevant ones from the Arabic translation. This results in a new text, which provides a more reliable basis for the philosophical analysis. We then propose a reading of the treatise as a systematic response to Plato’s Timaeus rather than a study of the world or of natural motion. The perspective that the very definition of scientific explanation is at issue makes it easier to account for the scope and unity of the whole treatise, particularly of books III and IV. Book III can be understood as a polemical endeavor to look for sensible principles, reviving the Presocratic tradition of the Περὶ φύσεως, which does not reach resolution but merely results in a critical doxography. On the other hand, book IV finds a way to qualify matter without resorting to an external principle: instead, elemental bodies are defined by a proper natural movement. This makes them all part of a topical system, from which they cannot be isolated.

Meneu Oset, Juan Ignacio 02 September 2020 (has links)
[EN] This doctoral thesis delves into the short film production process CGI (computer generated imagery), popularly known as 3D, with the aim of creating a guide that will serve to standardize the production processes involved in this type of works, in the phases of: development, pre-production, production and post-production. Production design can determine the difference between the success or failure of an animation film if the quality and parameters established and planned are met. However, there are hardly any theoretical studies which address this topic in depth in the case of 3D animation, or in any case, it is done very generally and from the point of view of the production as a whole, which does not delve into the work done by artists or technicians specialists involved in the process (workflow). To that end we have developed an empirical investigation, based on observation and experience, which uses the experimental method to develop your own production, with the aim to generate a procedures manual that allows designing and standardizing the production processes involved in 3D short films, from a technical-artistic approach. The purpose of this manual is to serve as a guide, promote training and provide parallel sources of information in each of the stages of production. Research is aimed at training and implementation in projects of new professionals, young people in training and even experienced professional studios, unfamiliar with the conducting of their own productions. Among the sources of information provided, the study includes unpublished interviews to active professionals within the animation industry, such as the one conducted to production manager Belli Ramírez which was published in nº 6 of the magazine specialized in animation Con A de Animación (Meneu Oset J. , 2016). The professionals interviewed contribute their experience on those processes in which they stand out as specialists of recognized prestige. Also attached there is a glossary of terms specifically used in the animation industry; generally accepted Anglicisms as technical vocabulary which is used by all studios internationally. In addition to these, the thesis includes materials from the production of the short film Ivet y Michuco (Meneu, 2020) to illustrate some of the specific processes that must be developed when generating a 3D project, as it is the case study of this thesis. The complete script, storyboard and graphic development or concept art for the artistic design of the short film can be found on Annex II. As a result of the research, this doctoral thesis provides an audiovisual guide, available online (www.ivetymichuco.com), which establishes a flow chart of the workflows of all the production phases of a 3D movie. The graphics that appear in it explain, in a concise and clear manner, the steps and processes to be followed by an artist/specialist who intends to undertake a similar production to the one presented in this research successfully. The guide also includes three important aspects of any animation production: file organizing, planning production times and the budget. / Meneu Oset, JI. Astérosismologie des étoiles ZZ Ceti

PECH, David 14 June 2005 (has links) (PDF)

Stefanie Cavalcanti De Lima Silva 00 December 2018 (has links)
The present work proposes to investigate anger in Hecyra (160 BC), play by Terence (185- 159 BC), through a Stoic reading. The delimitation of analysis corpus stems from a significant recurrence of a lexical field linked to the anger notion (ira, iniuria, iniquitas) in the play, especially in episodes that involve the senes Laques and Fidipo. Judging the possibility to examine the presence of anger in Hecyra by a Stoic prism, our aim is to analyze the play in light of Theory of the Passions. To reach this goal, we elaborate a bibliographical research and then study philosophical texts that discuss the Theory of the Passions, mainly in the light of stoicism, then apply the results obtained to our research hypothesis and make a more reasoned analysis of Terenceâs text. To develop this research, we use as theoretical foundation, especially philosophical works, that discuss the Theory of Passions, especially Anger, such as Rhetorica and Ethica Nicomachea, by Aristotle, Tusculanae disputationes, by Cicero, and De ira by Seneca. In addition to ancient texts, we also use modern studies concerning the theory of passions, such as Martha C. Nussbaum and Margareth Graver. In the Introduction section, we comment on the relationship between theater and philosophy and how this relationship was given since Menander, we contextualize Terence and his work, discuss his theater relationship with philosophy, and his presence in the Scipionic Circle; in the following chapter, we present the theory of passions, the conception of anger in both peripatetic and stoic schools; in the third chapter, we analyze the presence of a lexicon linked to the notion of anger in Hecyra in the light of Stoicism. We hope, at the end of this investigation, to discover a little more on the dialogue of literature with philosophy and theater by Terence, in particular Hecyra. .
