Konstruktioner av det nationella : En utställningsanalys av Finsk bild på Liljevalchs konsthall 1977–1978 / Constructions of the national : An analysis of the art exhibition Finsk bild (Finnish picture), Liljevalchs art gallery 1977-1978

Immonen, Paulina January 2021 (has links)
By examining the art exhibition Finsk bild (Finnish picture) that was held at Liljevalchs art gallery in Stockholm 1977-78, the aim of the essay is to investigate and highlight the discrepancy between the intention of the exhibition and how it was perceived by the critics. In the aftermath of the exhibition there were discussions about why the critics were so harsh, and also the way the critics described the art and artists in terms of the national has been questioned in recent years. The method that is being used is Mieke Bals semiotic exhibition analysis model, where the art exhibition is analyzed through the narratives that are constructed in the discourse of the practice of the exhibition. The results show that the framing of the exhibition was done according to a model of a national culture exchange, within far going traditions in the Nordic countries. Therefore, the art exhibited was received as “classic Finnish art”, but the art itself was of modern international character. The framing of the exhibition placed the art in the category of artefacts, which were starting to be an outdated way of perceiving art in the 1970´s.

The Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research) divisão Quality of Life (Zeist, Holanda). / Given the scarcity of studies performed with raw vegetables addressing the search for new bacteriocinogenic strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and considering the technological application of these strains as food preservatives and probiotic cultures in functional foods, this study was aimed at isolation and identification of bacteriocinogenic LAB strains from samples of rocket salad obtained in the local market of São Paulo, SP - Brazil, subsequent characterization of the bacteriocins produced by these LABs and evaluation of their probiotic potential by testing their survival in the dynamic gastrointestinal model TNO gastro- Intestinal-Model - TIM-1, available at the TNO (Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research) Quality of Life division (Zeist, Netherlands). The studies in the TIM-1 model were also done with another bacteriocinogenic strain L. sakei 2a for comparison, evaluating their interference on the viability of E. faecium LMA1. The bacteriocin produced by strain Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis MK02R isolated from rocket salad was sensitive to proteolytic enzymes, heat-stable and not influenced by the pH. The bacteriocin inhibited the growth of Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus sakei, Listeria innocua, Lactobacillus delbrueckii the primers Nisf and Nisr indicated that the bacteriocin produced by the strain MK02R is a nisin, with a change in the amino acid sequence of the leader peptide when compared to nisin A, Z, Q, U and F, but with the structure of the mature peptide homologous to that of nisin F. These results were confirmed by mass spectrometry of purified samples obtained by HPLC. L. lactis MK02R withstood the test in the dynamic model TIM-1, presenting capability to survive in the simulated conditions of the human gastrointestinal tract. However, the strain was not able to cause a reduction in the number of E. faecium LMA1. On the other hand, L. sakei 2a, even presenting lower survival, was able to cause 70% reduction in the population of E. faecium LMA1 in the gut simulated environment. No residual antimicrobial activity of bacteriocin produced by L. lactis MK02R or L. sakei 2a was detected after the transit through the dynamic model TIM-1. These results demonstrate the possible application of L. lactis MK02R both as a biocontrol agent in food preservation and as a potentially probiotic culture.

Genetic Modeling Of The Samli (balikesir) Iron Deposit

Yilmazer, Erkan 01 March 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Samli Fe-oxide (+Cu&plusmn / Au) deposit is hosted by Samli pluton and rocks of Karakaya Complex in western Anatolia. The pluton consists of both mafic and felsic phases showing magma mixing textures. 40Ar/39Ar geochronology yielded an age range of 23.2&plusmn / 0.5 to 22.42&plusmn / 0.11 Ma for the Samli pluton, overlapping with 40Ar/39Ar age of 22.33&plusmn / 0.59 Ma and U-Pb age of 23.34&plusmn / 0.19 Ma from alterations. Sr-Nd isotope data are suggestive of a metasomatized subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) source for the magma. Alteration-mineralization pattern is defined by a series of overlapping halos characterized by sodic-calcic (plagioclase-pyroxene&plusmn / scapolite), calcic (garnet-pyroxene&plusmn / epidote), potassic (biotite+magnetite+chalcopyrite), hematite-limonite, and late stage (chalcedony-calcite+native Cu) alterations. Stable (&delta / 18O, &delta / 34S) and radiogenic (87Sr/86Sr,143Nd/144Nd) isotope compositions suggest a magmatic source for the fluids responsible for alteration-mineralization. Given the spatial-temporal association of alteration- mineralization with magmatic rocks, the hydrothermal system that controls mineralization in Samli appears to be linked with emplacement and cooling of Samli pluton. Samli Fe-oxide (+Cu&plusmn / Au) deposit has features characteristic for both skarn- and Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold (IOCG) type deposits. The spatial and temporal association with a porphyritic intrusion, widespread calc-silicate assemblage, metal content (abundant Fe-oxide with high copper content) are similar to calcic Fe-Cu skarns, whereas low-Ti (&le / 0.05% TiO2) magnetite/hematite, low-S sulfides (chalcopyrite&gt / pyrite), high Cu (up to 6.78%) and moderate Au (up to 8.82 ppm) grades, local structural control in alteration-mineralization, and the derivation of the causative magma from a SCLM resembles the features pertinent to IOCG type mineralization. Therefore, Samli deposit is defined as a skarn type Fe-Cu mineralization with a potential for IOCG type deposit.

Microencapsulation of hepatic cells for extracorporeal liver supply / Microencapsulation de cellules hépatiques pour la suppléance extracorporelle du foie

Pandolfi, Vittoria 17 March 2016 (has links)
Liver shortage makes transplantation inapplicable to all acute liver failure patients. Bioartificial Iiver (BAL) devices represent a temporary solution for these patients which are thereby bridged tilt Iiver transplantation or regeneration BAL treatment offers blood purification and substitution of metabolic functions through the activity of hepatocytes (HEPs), which are integrated in the device within acclimating containers, so-called bioreactors. Primary human hepatocytes are the ideal cell type to use in BAL, but they are scarcely available and difficult to maintain in vitro. Co-culture of HEPs with supporting cells has been proposed as the most promising strategy for preserving HEP behaviors in in vitro conditions. In fact, assisting cells types hold their ability to influence functional responses of the HEPs by providing them with cues of the native organ. This PhD work proposed a novel approach of co-culture for the functional sustain and preservation of the HEPs in the environment of the fluidized bed bioreactor (designed in our Iaboratory). Definition of this model took inspiration from the cellular organization in the organ; therefore, it employed three major sinusoidal non-parenchymal cell populations (liver sinusoidal, Kupffer, and hepatic stellate cells) which, together with HEPs, were cultured with three-dimensional arrangement (spheroids) and according to specific proportions. The resulting model was characterized in terms of functional benefits for the HEPs, and then applied in the microenvironment of alginate beads, which provide cells with immunological and mechanical protection in the fluidized bed bioreactor. This spheroidal multi-cultured model revealed its potentiality in sustaining in vitro HEP behaviors over time. Although much remains to be refined, this model may represent an interesting approach for the progress of BAL

Francis Poulenc et la musique populaire / Francis Poulenc and the popular music

Arbey, Dominique 14 October 2011 (has links)
The composer Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) was particularly influenced by the popular music of his time. In order to study this very specific aspect of his works, our research will take into account the musical production of the composer, his personal testimonies (such as correspondence, radio programs and various pieces of writing) and all documents related to the creation and reception of his works. When composing Bal Masqué (The Masked Ball) the composer’s aim was not to copy popular music but just to make use of some of its characteristics. Just like a painter he created what he would call ‘portraits de music-hall’ (‘Music-hall portraits’). For this impregnation to be fully appreciated, our analyses will tackle different musical parameters such as melody, rhythm, harmony, structures, orchestration and vocal effects. The purpose of our research involving socio-cultural perspectives, the analysis of those technical aspects cannot be dissociated from the historical context relative to the composer and, to a wider extent, to the ‘Groupe des Six’.

Discrete element technique for modeling high-speed railway tracks

Ahmadi, Alireza January 2023 (has links)
The Discrete element method (DEM) is a methodology to investigatethe interactions among granular materials. It analyzes the behavior of par-ticulate environments by solving force-displacement equations that adhereto Newton’s second law of motion. Despite its usefulness, the DEM is notwithout limitations, and researchers are still facing certain challenges thatrestrict them from performing detailed analyses of granular materials. Thisstudy addresses two issues in DEM modeling of granular materials in rail-way embankments. Firstly, the long computational time required by theDEM for modeling fine angular particles in granular materials is addressedby exploring the effects of particle scaling on the shear behavior of granularmaterial. This study investigates the impact of particle size distribution, particle angularity, and the amount of scaling on the accuracy and compu-tational efficiency of DEM. Secondly, the limitations of DEM in includingthe continuous rail beam structure in the track are addressed by verifyinga DEM model against physical measurements of a full-scale ballasted trackand investigating the influence of including the rail beam structure on high-speed railway ballasted tracks. The results show that the use of particlescaling in the first study significantly improves the computational efficiencyof the DEM while maintaining accuracy, and this method is used in thesecond study to investigate the influence of the rail beam structure on thebehavior of railway tracks. / <p>QC 230508</p>

Immunopathogenesis and antifungal therapy for severe asthma with fungal sensitization and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis

Chishimba, Livingstone January 2016 (has links)
Introduction: The pathogenesis and treatment of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), severe asthma-non fungal sensitised (SANFS) and severe asthma with fungal sensitization (SAFS) is poorly understood. IL-17A, IgE and microbiome may be associated with pathogenesis of asthma, but their role in fungal-associated asthma is uncertain. Further, the efficacy of voriconazole, posaconazole and nebulised amphotericin B (NAB) in ABPA and SAFS has not been fully studied. Aims and objectives: The aim of this PhD thesis was to evaluate the role of IL-17A, IgE and lung microbiome in patients with SANFS, SAFS and ABPA. We also studied the efficacy and safety of NAB, voriconazole and posaconazole. Methods: Airway lymphocytes and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from patients with ABPA (n=16), SAFS (n=15), SANFS (n=11), mild asthma (MA) (n=6) and NH (n=11) were characterized by flow cytometric analysis (FACS) to determine the % of CD (+) IL-17A expressing cells. We also evaluated microbiome population using culture and PCR plus sequencing from BAL of these patients. In chapter 3, we analysed total and specific IgE in blood from adult cohorts of SAFS (n=34) and ABPA (n=48) using ImmunoCAP 100. In chapter 5 we studied the efficacy of voriconazole and posaconazole and in chapter 6; we studied the efficacy of NAB.Results: %CD4+IL-17A expressing cells were significantly higher in patients with severe asthma and correlated positively with serum neutrophil and presence of fungi in the airways. ABPA, SAFS and SANFS were similar but all were significantly higher than MA and NH. There were no differences in IL-17A expression between blood and the lung. Fungi were more frequently associated with severe asthma and low FEV1. Steroid treatment significantly increased airway fungal load. IgE against staphylococcal aureus (SE-IgE) correlated positively with FEV1 and OCS dose. Voriconazole and posaconazole improved asthma severity and radiological abnormalities. NAB was associated bronchospasm, but was extrely effective in the few patients (n=3) that took treatment for >12 months. These responders had unique characteristics. Conclusions: IL-17A, SE-IgE, and lung microbiome are associated with asthma severity. Steroid use in these patients may increase airway fungal load. Whereas voriconazole and posaconazole are efficacious, the use of NAB is associated with significant bronchospasm. SE-IgE -high asthma patients may be a distinct asthma phenotype. Larger studies are needed.

"Husets ABC" : En rumslig läsning av Ulla Isakssons Kvinnohuset / "ABC of the House" : a Spatial Reading of Ulla Isaksson´s Kvinnohuset

Pärsson, Sara January 2013 (has links)
This thesis is a spatial reading of the Ulla Isaksson novel Kvinnohuset (first published in 1952) where the focus is on the spatial aspects of the novel and the House as a motif. Kvinnohuset is set in 1952 and revolves around a group of women who live in a residential building for single working women, Stockholm. The main plot is a love triangle between the director Tryggve, his wife Anna and his new mistress Eva, an actress. For the analysis I use contextualization on both an internallevel and an external level and an interdisciplinary selection of theories are used – performativity theory, spatial theory, narratology. The novel is also seen in relation to the historic context of socialdemocrat twentieth century Sweden. The house is found to function as a main organizing principle of the novel. The novel is also found to be a rich example of narrative space being intertwined with the social and emotional aspects of the text. The fabula revolves around the house – from Eva moving in to Anna being brought out – and narrating is often situated within the apartments, even when the events narrated take place in the city or elsewhere. The House is referred to as a creature, sometimes at the sametime referring to the collective of women residents as a social unit. The character of The House depends on the focalizor, and therefore shifts. Individual women characters' spaces are also used tocharacterize them and their relations – to the House, the novel and the narrative universe. The interplay between rooms and human relationships are thematized in the novel – each love affair isassigned its own space. The interaction in the stairways and the connection between the collectiveand the outside male world are also found to be central for the novel. In this thesis the construction of female and male in relation to homes and public space is also explored, since the novel is set in the 1950's when the idea of the woman as a housewifepeaked in popularity. The women are found to act as hostesses in their homes, using housework as acomforting practice in difficult situations.
