Black Metal, Ecology and Contemporary Nihilism

Furniss, Mary January 2020 (has links)
Abstract 1: Master Thesis - Investigating the relationship between the aesthetics of Black Metal and its ecological and nihilistic implications with contemporary painting, comics and Chaos Magick spiritual practice. Abstract 2: Documentation of solo exhibition titled Zurbaráns' Dream. The works take as a starting point the paintings of Saint Francis by Francisco De Zurbarán. The depictions of Saint Francis within Catholic mythology in the 16th/17th century used symbolic postures and objects to create paintings that were instructional for spiritual transcendence. My paintings are developed from an esoteric fiction manipulated by the process of lucid dreaming. They are inspired by Zurbaráns' 'dream' of using art and iconography as tools for spiritual transcendence.

Om konst och motståndsstrategier

Dominguez, Emma January 2019 (has links)

Purification : Research & Exhibition

Albornoz, Rodrigo Nicolas January 2019 (has links)
In recent years I have been working on topics related to Post-colonialism in South America, as well as the conditions of immigrants in Europe. The main interest of my work involves questions about my roots and personal stories of migration. This situation has been the engine of my art for the last ten years. Through my installations, I have tried to express or represent some certain facts, that have marked the post-colonial situation in Latin America and Europe over the last years.  The slavery and exploitation of illegal labor are common working conditions for many people in South America, especially for those located in the jungles and slums. The Indigenous culture -its languages, values and traditions- have begun to disappear and been displaced by Western culture. Here in Europe, on the other hand, I feel 'alien' to the territory of my ancestors, due to the fact that my family comes from European immigrants in Argentina. Illegal labor has been also a part of my life, having experienced the condition of 'otherness' in Europe. Therefore, this project reflects upon my personal experience in relation to the unfair conditions of labor in autochthonous communities, researching the concept of 'otherness' taken from Post-colonial theories. It is for this purpose, that my methodologies include self-reflection, parallelism and metaphor. One of my purposes is toreveal those 'fake stories' used by the European acculturation in South America. I called these fake stories 'strategies', as they were used by the Colony for the reconstruction of a new National Identity in those countries. Therefore, convincing the Indigenous culture to adopt Western culture. The parts of my essay are a metaphor of different stages of narcotic's production, best called 'mobile labs' of the Amazon jungle.I have taken this concept to tell my story and to build up the laboratory as final representation. The first stage of this process is to weigh and measure the ingredients, followed by a mixture of substances and chemicals. Once mixed, it proceeds to three stages of filtering and purification. Then it is subjected to a press for semi-solid consistency and introduced into the oven to reach the compact state. The blocks will finally be packed with plastic film and adhesive tape, protecting them from adverse environmental conditions during transport and storage. Each chapter of this essay is also connected to the 'machines' constructed for my solo exhibition, following the same steps of Purification. Through this essay, I wanted to broaden my concept relating three main aspects: the colonial strategies of domination in South America, my personal work experience in Europe, and finally the unfair working conditions in marginal societies. Each of the 'machines' constructed for my installation is functional, ready to be activated according to the different parts of the cooking process and as a representation of a 'production line' in the system of labor. I also have chosen to wrap my body, as well as carefully chosen representative objects of the popular culture of South America, to finally pack them in cling film. As a result of this process of Purification, I have produced the 'final products' ready to be consumed here in the Western European countries.

Att läsa en affisch : En studie om intermedialitet och modelläsare i teateraffischer / Reading an poster : A study of intermediality and model readers in theatre posters

Holm, Evelina January 2022 (has links)
In this essay, seven posters from productions of the play "Waiting for Godot" are studied. The purpose is to identify elements in the play's plot that are found in the design of the posters and link them to each other. The question statements is to find out what the posters tell about the plot, how the intermediality shows in the posters and who the posters aimed at. The method of the analysis is based on Gillian Rose's content analysis and Anders Marner's student exercise in semiotics. The results of the study showed that it is the characters' attributes and props, such as hats and trees, that take up space on most posters and thus communicate with the potential audience. The graphics and text in the posters are together active parts of the communication of the story each poster mediates. The model readers can both have a knowledge about the plot and no major pre-understanding of the play's plot depending on the different posters in the analysis.

Bildämnet ur ett interkulturellt perspektiv / Visual arts education from an intercultural perspective

Anad, Donya, Alabtah, Sherin January 2022 (has links)
We live in an increasingly globalized world where mutual dependencies are clearly visible, especially in the lives of children and young people. Therefore, schools must prepare students for a life in which society houses multiple cultural diversity, give them global education, and create conditions for sustainable internationalization. Not much research and writing has been done about intercultural and multicultural art education in Sweden, because of this we chose to delve into this subject in our overview project. This knowledge overview examines the intercultural and multicultural meaning in visual arts education through scientific research. The main aim of this study is to investigate whether intercultural methods can help both students and teachers reach a better understanding regarding diversity in schools. Furthermore, this knowledge overview aims to gather different resources that touch on the concept of integrating multiculturalism into different pedagogy approaches that centers around visual arts. Our SAG project hopes to widen the perspective that current teachers have on/against diversity within education and which effects it may conjure.

I want to become a barn

Bartos, Veine January 2023 (has links)
There is a new order on the farm, the animals are long since gone, new people have moved in. On a farm in Bergslagen, which is also my home, a barn (or lada in Swedish) stands empty. The original function of this barn, to house a small number of cows and their feed, has been lost. Since moving to the farm, we have asked ourselves how it should be used.  It is here the project I Want to Become a Barn plays out. In my degree project, I explore how to have a dia-logue with the building and how the barn can be approached by starting from its current condition.  The work process is guided by a care for that which has been, where the new has to adapt to the old. The history of the place, the ravages of time, and the forces of gravity are elementary starting points. The project proposes that the building can be made habitable and meet basic everyday needs. When does it stop being a stable for animals and when does it start to become a home for humans?

Digitala dilemman : En analys av några bildlärares uppfattningar och praxis i bildklassrummet / Digital Dilemmas : An Analysis of Some Visual Art Teachers´ Perceptions and Practices in Visual Art Classroom

Anad, Donya January 2023 (has links)

Ljungberg, Sofia January 2023 (has links)
In my project, my hometown Katrineholm becomes a tool to explore form. Through visual exploration of archival material from the city, I pick apart, piece together, draw from, modify, and deconstruct to create new form. Archival material and my explorations are brought together in a publication. Memories and my intuition guide me through the material and decide what is included and what is discarded.

Slowly also leads somewhere : Weaving circles

Tegelberg, Anneli January 2023 (has links)
In this paper I am exploring why I am drawn to such labour intensive craft as weaving. In a wider perspective I ask what place slow craft has in our post industrial society. I try to find the meaning of slowness and monotonous work. I do this by repeatedly working with the circle as a motif in my weaves. By growing my own pigments to dye with I examine differ- ent kinds of slow processes. I investigate the meaning embedded in the finished weaves. I come to understand how I use weaving as a way of thinking.

Materialiserade erfarenheter

Reichmann, Eva January 2023 (has links)
This essay tries to, in a post humanist approach, answer questions regarding the agency of materials, things and art in relation to the body; the bodily experience of art. This is also an essay about an artistic practise that has developed during three years in a context where the craft skill and knowledge about certain materials have been in focus while the artist herself has been interested in a more emotional and theoretical approach to the materials and what they do. The text is a result of what happens when those two different ways of relating to art and craft are encountered.
