The repetition in the project of collective housing, the larges estates of Toulouse

Courbebaisse, Audrey 16 October 2015 (has links)
In collective habitats, we can observe repetitions in series of windows, balconies, facades, housing and identical buildings. Ideological during the 19th century, with the idea of a stereotype human for social return reasons, idealistic with the project of industrial productivity, housing estate policies, the series of a same cell in the same building or that of a same building in an ensemble, is the paradigm of collective living. This repetition isn't a recognized theme in architectural research as is the type (reproduction of a same characteristic in different objects). By asking the question of this repetition in the project and by its consequences on the singularity of works we open a path to architectural research. The estate policies offer homogeneity in national and in local (Toulouse) conditions which are necessary to the generalization of results. We have constituted an analysis of the current situation from the building permits and in field research of the 17 major Toulousian estates. The study method is based on the reversibility of the architectural analysis and on the project, and considering the absence of written work from the architects in the consensus concerning their approach on the homology between the repetition and the beaux-arts composition with which they have generally been trained. The analysis operates with and through drawing and space of the project. In each of the 17 estates, the study of the configuration of the series on different scales of repetition, allow to be aware of the liberal and imposed logics and to interpret the architects decision. A transversal reading of the works allows an inventory of the variable conjugations whether formal or structural of the series and their adjustments et to establish if the repetition intervenes at different moments of the project.

Komunitní bydlení. Případová studie komunitního projektu Bydlinská zahrádka / Community housing. A Case study of the community project Bydlinská zahrádka

Hlávka, Martin January 2021 (has links)
This master's thesis looks into sociological perspectives on shared housing, or cohousing, and it is based on a case study of a project in Těšíkovská bydlina. The thesis picks up on the sociological studies of the community, which narrow down the influence of communities, and neighborly relations on the formation of shared housing. The thesis also describes various models of living together and provides specific examples of cohosing projects in various European countries. The second part of the thesis palces focus on the Bydlinská zahrádka project itself, where it employs the techniques of semi-structured interviews, narration and observation for a qualitiative study of the community. Drawing on the data garnered in this research, this work criticizes Tönnies' concepts of Gemeinshaft and Gesselschaft and further places the principles of shared living in our country in comparison with modern European trends. The work thus brings out a unique perspective on the phenomenom of cohousing in the Czech context and contributes to the discussion of why this way of living finds such a small response the Czech Republic.

A Room of One's One : Make room for your inner needs

Magnusson, Anton January 2023 (has links)
Imagine visiting a housing exhibition so radical and so ground-breaking that it will influence urban planning and housing standards for an entire nation. During the Stockholm Exhibition 1930, around four million people got to experience just that when the ideas of functionalism were presented to the public. The new, modern style ideal sparked great public debate and opinions were divided. Some of the most vocal proponents of functionalism wrote the propaganda text “acceptera” in which they argued that we must break free from the past and must “accept” the new. One of the advocates of the new modernist ideals was Sven Markelius who a few years later presented “Hem I Kollektivhus”, a new domestic concept for the Swedish family inspired by Alva Myrdahls’ socio-political ideas. The proposal was a multi-family house with a shared kitchen, a communal children’s department, and other collective functions with the aim of getting the woman out to work instead of being stuck in the kitchen with household chores. Inspired by the ideas of collective functions as a response to current housing and social issues, the question arises of how we could approach the same thinking in today’s society. The study explores the Swedish housing model and what role housing exhibitions have had on Swedish housing architecture. This thesis proposes a new Swedish housing concept that explores private and collective functions in domestic life and how it fulfils the personal need for space. The proposal includes a double sided, rotating wall as a new tectonic component in the Swedish domestic environment. The rotating walls can be opened and closed on our own premises and provide more space for our personal needs. The possibility of opening and closing rooms with a more periodized system creates new spatial connections. Either as an expansion of the unit, or a room of one’s own isolated from the dwelling. The room of one’s own can function as a home office, a painting workshop, a music studio, or a room for meditation and poetry. What space do you need in your Swedish domesticity?

THE COLLECTIVE NEXT DOOR

Seares, Rei Mark January 2021 (has links)
Fågelbärsträdet 12 is a property on John Ericssonsgatan on the area of Kungsholmen in Stockholm. It has been emptied since 2018 and undergoing the application process for demolition due to erroneous use of aluminate cement during its construction in the 1930’s, making the structure weak and at risk of falling down.  In this project, the site is reused and reinforced to accommodate a collective housing for single mothers with their children, and elderly. By reusing an existing building, the question regarding the life cycle of building was touched. Most often, proprietors decide upon demolition for economic gain which mean throwing away energy and resources used to build the building, and only to build a new one.  Furthermore, the proximity of the site to the iconic Markelius Kollektivhus (which is just next door), gave an opportunity to revitalize the concept of collective living to modern day society. Using collective living as a tool, social and economic sustainability was also taken into consideration. Through a collective, a community within the building can easily flourish and become a support system both for all the residents.  The result of the project is the reinforcement of the existing load-bearing walls, a new entrance from the courtyard, and new co-living spaces on the upper floors. There are social spaces accessible to the public on the ground floor (restaurant and youth recreation space), and collective activity rooms on the upper floors for the residents to use.

Coliving - svenska bostadsmarknadens nya trend : en analys av befintliga coliving-projekt i Stockholmsregionen / Coliving – the swedish housing markets new trend : An analysis of existing coliving projects in the Stockholm region

Cedervall, Ofelia, Wränghede, Tove January 2021 (has links)
For the past ten years, the concept of coliving has been established in the Swedish housing market. Due to the housing shortage in the metropolitan regions in Sweden, the need for new innovative forms of housing has been important. This mainly applies to young adults in Sweden between the ages of 20-35. The new concept of coliving means a shared accommodation where the tenants are offered both private and common areas. The development of coliving is based on other forms of collective housing, but this type of housing includes a broader target group and more services as well as services. This has meant that coliving is an attractive and innovative form of housing that companies in Sweden have chosen to implement in their properties. The purpose of this master’s thesis, which is in collaboration with Stena Fastigheter, is to investigate how and why companies in Stockholm choose to implement the concept of coliving in their properties. The authors have also chosen to delve into the various rules and laws available today to examine the obstacles that exist in the start-up phase of coliving projects.  In order to fulfill the purpose of the work, the authors have had semi-structured interviews with respondents from various coliving actors in Stockholm. A literature study has also been carried out in order to gain an in-depth insight into the concept and the regulations surrounding it. Today, there is a certain problem with the regulation of coliving, this includes Hyreslagen and Boverkets building regulations, which means that there is no clear structure of the concept and how it should be designed. As a result, companies have designed their coliving units in different ways. The respondents mention how demand and an alternative solution to the housing shortage for young adults are two of the driving forces for developing the concept.

Habiter un logement populaire locatif du centre-ville : la place des cortiços à São Paulo, Salvador et Belém / Living in collective, working-class housing in the inner city : cortiços of São Paulo, Salvador and Belém

Paris, Octavie 25 October 2018 (has links)
In the Brazilian city, popular housing such as cortiço or pensão are poorly studied in the academic geography field, because of the focus around the favela. This dissertation aims to fill this lack in scientific studies on housing. The cortiço could be defined as a popular, collective, multifamiliar, rented housing whose development happens in old neighborhoods, called “centrals” of Brazilian cities. It is a housing solution older than the favela, still having an important place in the urban landscape nowadays. In this dissertation, I chose to study the place of the cortiço in three different metropolitan contexts: São Paulo, Salvador de Bahia and Belém do Pará. This allows us to address the cortiço’s urban reality in its diversity. Also, we take an approach by the micro level, entering in the cortiços and in the quartos in order to meet the dwellers and gathering their discourses. The place of the cortiço – in the city and for its inhabitants – allows us to also develop the questions of the right to the city and the permanence of popular residential function in city cores.

Sabato, Simone January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate the experience of people living in collective housing in relation to chrononormative time. I have interviewed people from the ages 20-30 who have experience of living in collective housing at some point in their lives. My theoretical framework includes chrononormativity, queer time and queer kinship. I have also used a phenomenological perspective on orientations and straight lines to gain a deeper understanding of the participants' experiences with timelines. The methods used are semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis. The result of this study shows that there are specific norms in collective housing that the participants related or deviated from.  It became clear that the participants were affected by the pressure of chrononormativity and norms about aging, though in different ways. All participants negotiated with these norms as a way to make sense of themselves and their choices in life.
