Att begränsas och avgränsa sig : En studie om studenters attityder till internets dagliga informationsflöden / To limit and define : A study of students attitudes towards the internet’s daily flow of information

Thollander, Åsa January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study how students perceive and handle internet’s continuous flow of information in everyday life, through news report, social media and targeted advertising. By examining the students attitudes and thoughts about the extent to which they find the information they meet relevant this study seeks to understand how they find what is relevant to them and how they limit the intake of information by different combinations of selection processes. For this purpose interviews were carried out with seven university students from different fields and levels. Three categories of theories about selection processes serves as a theoretical framework for the analysis and results. The categories are referred to as external, personalized and personal factors. The external factors include gatekeeping theory, news valuation and agenda theory and the personalized factors include theories about filter bubbles and echo chambers. The personal factors include strategies to avoid information overload such as filtering and withdrawing, it also includes satisficing as a stop rule for information seeking.  The study shows that the three categories of selection processes are affected by emotional factors referred to as simplicity, interest and sensation. These drives the student to get more deeply informed. The students attitudes towards personalized information shows to be divided between if it should be more firmly adapted to each individual, or if that would increase the feeling of being monitored. In the students reflections regarding saved information emerges three feelings of negativity described as reluctance, lack of control and unease. Despite these feelings of negativity the phenomenon is accepted. Seeing that the alternative is disconnecting from modern society and life, acceptance shows to be the most reasonable alternative.

“Allt vi gjorde på gympan handlade om att vara bäst" : En diskursanalytisk studie av storstadspressens framställningar av skolämnet idrott och hälsa / “Everything we did in PE was about being the best” : A discourse analytical study of the metropolitan press representations of physical education

Ekdahl, Mattias, Lundell, Philip January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine the metropolitan press representations of Physical education during the period 1 July 2015 - 30 June 2016. We raised the following questions, in order to fulfill the aim of the study: 1) Which – and what kind of terms are produced in connection with Physical education in the metropolitan press in the autumn of 2015 and the spring of 2016? 2) Which discourses emerges from these terms and which connections emerge in comparison to previously identified discourses? 3) What connections can be identified from the discourses and the analyzed articles, in regard to the author's profession, the quoted/referenced persons, the type of article and the designation of the school subject The chosen method of the study was discourse analysis. The source material was obtained from a database that gathers all printed press in Sweden. The collection was made through the use of keywords consisting of different designations for Physical education. Metropolitan Press is a categorization consisting of newspapers based in Stockholm, Malmo and Gothenburg. The collection, selection and analysis procedure was structured on the basis of five steps of categorization. The final selection of the study was 63 articles. The Discourse Theory was combined with the Agenda Setting Theory, whose starting point is that the agenda of the media reflects the agenda of the public. Terms produced in correlation with Physical education included among others the prevention of diseases, the benefit for other school subjects, the content of physical activity and sports in the subject and the content of bullying and exclusion caused by the setup of the subject. Based on these terms, four discourses could be identified: the Discourse of Movement and Activity (consisting of five sub-discourses), the Discourse of Exclusion, the Discourse of Diet and Wellbeing and the Discourse of Safety. The Discourse of Movement and Activity is the most frequent and regular discourse. Sports is the most common designation for Physical education. The conclusions of the study are the following: the public prioritize students' movement and physical activity as the most important mission of the subject, the subject is not considered to be an educational subject, the activity of the subject is assumed to consist of sports and other competitive activities, the subject is assumed to contribute to a culture in which masculine norm prevails, the competitive activities are considered to reproduce this culture, the activity of the subject is considered to aim for the strengthening of the society. There is a discrepancy between public interpretation and the purpose of the curriculums.

Nu är det dags för ditt val! : Den politiska kommunikation på sociala medier inför riksdagsvalet 2018. / Now it is time for your choice! : The political communication on social media.

Omiti, Matabel Nite January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of the thesis is to examine the political material published before the parliamentary elections 2018 from two party leaders who were competing for the prime minister's role in 2018. Stefan Löfven and Ulf Kristersson are the two political actors who present themselves and  their party for the parliamentary elections in 2018. The two social media that has been selected are Facebook and Instagram, which at the time of the study were the most widely used around the world. This study use Aristotle's philosophy about the rhetoric’s ethos, logos and pathos and Walter Lippman's research on agenda theory. These two theories explain that people communicate through different rhetorical arguments and agendas, especially in political communication where the goal is often to convince the people what the society looks like. The goal is to gain their trust for the election. The survey shows that this indeed is used by both Löfven and Kristersson, though in different ways. The differences may be different due to the high probability of party leaders ahead of the parliamentary elections. Löfven is already prime minister and is running for second term, while Kristersson is newly elected party leader and new candidate to become Sweden's prime minister. What became surprising during the study was to see how they both benefit from using ethos, logos and pathos in a way that truly represent the party’s political statements. The conclusion that can be drawn from the results is that during the parliamentary elections 2018 Kristersson focused on sending a more persuasive message that the Moderates are the obvious choice and through his ways of painting the reality sent a signal that he, as the future party leader, is fully ready to responsible address Sweden. Löfven, on the other hand, focused on to channel a more relaxed presentation of himself as well as a message aimed to the working class in society. Much of his speech consisted of his proximity to the people and understanding of their everyday problems.

Bilder i målfokus: Genuskampen mellan Sportbladet och SVT Sport– : En jämförande kvantitativ innehållsanalys om Sportbladet och SVT Sports gestaltning av genus och sport på Instagram / Images in target focus: The gender battle between Sportbladet and SVT Sport– : A comparative quantitative content analysis of Sportbladet and SVT Sports' portrayal of gender and sport on Instagram

Madestam, Sandra, Rydén, Matilda January 2023 (has links)
The study aimed to investigate how female and male athletes are framed on Sportbladet and SVT Sport’s Instagram pictures. The study also examines and compares Sportbladet and SVT Sport to see if there are any differences between their coverage, since Sportbladet is commercial media and SVT Sport is public service. We have conducted a quantitative content analysis where we analyzed 655 Instagram pictures in total, 280 were from Sportbladet and 375 from SVT Sport. The Instagram pictures that were used were from the months of February, May, August, and November in 2022. The results showed that men dominated Sportbladet, while women and men were equally represented on SVT Sport. Although the results also showed that women and men are framed differently on both Sportbladet and SVT Sport. Women are generally framed as passive, happy, and intimate, while men are active, cocky, and formal. The results also showed that Sportbladet and SVT Sport have different agendas, which could be based on what possibly sells the most. Sportbladet, which is a commercial, posts more Instagram pictures of sportsmen. Simultaneously, SVT Sport posts an equal number of pictures of both genders.

Hög tid: att undersöka kvällspressens cannabisrapportering : En kvantitativ och kvalitativ studie av medierapporteringen om cannabis sedan 2010 i Aftonbladet och Expressen / High time: a study of cannabis coverage in the evening press : A quantitative and qualitative study of cannabis media moverage since 2010 in Aftonbladet and Expressen

Neemé, Kevin, Zetterquist, Viktor January 2024 (has links)
This study delves into the media coverage of cannabis by analyzing articles from Aftonbladet and Expressen between 2010 and 2024. Through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, the study examines the tone, content, and trends in reporting on cannabis through these years. A total of 904 articles were analyzed, with a focus on identifying patterns, trends, and shifts in the portrayal of cannabis in the two newspapers. The quantitative content analysis involves coding and categorizing a large sample of articles to uncover key themes and frequencies of coverage. Additionally, a qualitative discourse analysis is conducted on a subset of texts to deepen the understanding of how cannabis is framed and represented in the media. The methodological rigor includes inter-coderreliability checks and statistical evaluations to ensure consistency and validity in the analysis process. The findings reveal a predominance of negative articles, with a particular focus on domestic issues in Sweden such as increasing gang violence. The study also highlights the influence of media discourse in shaping perceptions of cannabis, portraying it both as an illegal commodity associated with violence and as a symbol of deviance. By scrutinizing the language and narratives used in media representations, this research sheds light on the construction of cannabis in Swedish newspapers and the potential impact on public attitudes and policies.
