”Förhoppningsvis är man två” : En studie över hur 18-åringar i en mindre stad i Sverige resonerar kring kön, kropp och sexualitet

Johansson, Linda, Wallin, Petra January 2010 (has links)
<p>The essay is about how teenagers around 18 years of age in a small town in Sweden talk about gender, body and sexuality. The study is based on two focus group interviews with five boys and four girls. We have then thematized and analyzed the material with queer theory. The results show how young people see heterosexuality as something 'natural' and gender as biologically determined. The teenagers are critical towards anything that deviates from the traditional nuclear family consisting of mother, father and children. Norms are created in their speech as some of them acts as so called "border guards" for these norms. Our conclusion is that there are difficulties to be deviate in terms of gender, sexuality and body in a small town.</p>

iPod - Var mans leksak?

von Schantz, Louise January 2006 (has links)
<p>Abstract</p><p>Purpose/Aim: My study aims to analyse, using Pierre Bourdieu´s theory, whether the social background plays a significant part in the attitudes and use of Apples mp3-player iPod. The study also aims to determine whether it is possible to group the focus groups used in my study and iPod into Bourdieu´s model.</p><p>Material/Method: The reference material used in this paper is mainly gathered from books concerning Pierre Bourdieu´s theories. I have also had four focus groups of two different characters, to study their attitudes towards Apples mp3-player iPod. I have then applied the results of the focus groups to Bourdieu´s theories and models concerning habitus, social fields, capital and lifestyles, and studied whether there are any divergences in attitudes between the groups.</p><p>Main results: My findings are that the focus groups as well as iPod can be put into Bourdieu´s model. According to the responses from the people in the focus groups, the attitude and usage of iPod do not mirror people’s social class or background, which goes against Bourdieu´s’ theory. Instead, the taste and attitude towards iPod seem to be based on people’s individual choices, which better ties in with Anthony Gidden’s reasoning. Thus, it seems that Apple have managed to develop a product that attracts people of different social class and background.</p><p>Key words: iPod, habitus, social fields, capital, lifestyles, social background, focus group, status 1</p>

Factors influencing adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy at a General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya

Baghazal, Anisa Abdalla January 2011 (has links)
<p>Sub-Saharan Africa is home to two thirds of the 33 million HIV infected individuals worldwide. In 2007 there were an estimated 1.5 million Kenyans infected with HIV, and 166 000 new infections in 2008. The introduction of antiretroviral therapy [ART] brought new hope to HIV patients. It has transformed a fatal disease to a chronic manageable condition. Kenya has made great strides in ensuring access to ART and by 2009, 308 610 patients in the country were receiving ART - which is the second highest number worldwide. The success of ART requires a sustained adherence rate to medication of more than 95% to prevent viral replication and the development of drug resistant HIV strains. Identifying the factors that influence adherence, is essential for the long-term success of public ART programmes. The current study explored patient, socio-economic, cultural, and religious and health systems factors that influence adherence to ART at the Coast Provincial General Hospital [CPGH] in Mombasa, Kenya.</p>

The Role of Service Guarantees in Managing Services

Björlin Lidén, Sara January 2004 (has links)
Service guarantees have been argued to have many roles in managing services, for instance signal service quality, attract new customers, increase satisfaction and retention, and to differentiate the company from its competitors. Despite a growing interest from service organizations, research on service guarantees has been surprisingly scarce. The aim of this dissertation is to provide a wider understanding of the roles of service guarantees. Data is gathered from actual customers (as opposed to fictitious participants of an experiment) and/or employees regarding service guarantees in three different service contexts. The methods used to gather and analyze the data were manifold and includes personal interviews, Mystery Shopping observations, focus group interviews and a postal survey. The results represent new knowledge when it comes to the roles of service guarantees in managing services. Previous research has almost exclusively addressed pre-purchase effects of the service guarantee, but has failed to address the impact of the service guarantee after it has been used. Therefore, the most important contribution to service research of this dissertation concern the understanding of service guarantees “in action” and the post-use effects of a service guarantee in real service settings. Another contribution is the identification of the recovery paradox; that the customer is more satisfied with the service after he or she has used the service guarantee, than before he or she experienced the original service failure. This result strongly suggests that the use of a service guarantee can make a fruitful contribution in the managing of services.

Lännerström, Linda January 2009 (has links)
When a person seeks contact with community health services in Sweden it’s usually via a phone call to the primary health care centre. By the phone call, received by a nurse, the health seeker’s case is assessed and addressed. Sick leave is one of many cases being managed. In recent years, management of sick leave in Swedish primary health care has changed and decreased the number of sick leaves. However, nurses have in varying degrees, participated in this change. This study will visualize the nurse's participation in the care of patients on sick leave at the primary health care centre. The aim was to describe nurses' experiences of telephone advisory services at the primary health care centre and especially the management of sick leaves. The study is qualitative with an inductive approach. Data collection was done through focus group discussions with 14 nurses working with telephone advisory services at three primary health care centres. Collected material was analyzed by qualitative content analysis. The group discussions demonstrated nurses' experiences of telephone advisory services as qualified and stimulating. The specific management of sick leave was described as a combination of making assessment, providing patient information and monitoring the patient's rights. Obstructing and enabling circumstances affect nurses telephone advisory services and their management of sick leaves. The obstucitive cirumstances sometimes causes nurses wanting to abdicate responsibility. The study has identified a need to clarify the caring responsibility for nurses in telephone advice services so that nurse's assessments increasingly are based on caring goales.

Physical activity levels and health promotion strategies among physiotherapists in Rwanda

Ngarambe, Robert January 2011 (has links)
<p>Physical inactivity has become a global health concern and is among the 10 leading causes of death and disability. This has led to increased concern for chronic diseases of lifestyle (CDL).&nbsp / Studies have revealed that regular physical activity is effective in combating several CDL such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension and obesity. Physiotherapists are in a&nbsp / position to combat inactivity and effectively promote physical activity to their clients. Studies however have shown that participation in physical activity among physiotherapists could have an&nbsp / impact on the promotion of physical activity and their health practices. This study therefore sought to establish the relationship between physical activity levels of physiotherapists and their&nbsp / physical&nbsp / activity promotion strategies and barriers to promoting physical activity. Sequential Mixed Method Design was used in this study. Data was collected by means of a self administered&nbsp / questionnaire and a total of 92 physiotherapists voluntarily answered the questionnaire. A focus group discussion comprising of 10 purposively selected physiotherapists was conducted. The&nbsp / questionnaire assessed physical activity levels&nbsp / and physical activity promoting strategies of the participants while the focus groupdiscussion looked at the barriers to promoting physical&nbsp / activity. The Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 18 was used for data capturing and analysis. Descriptive statistics were employed to summarize demographic information&nbsp / as means, standard deviation, frequencies and percentages. Inferential statistics (chi-square) was used to test the associations between different categorical variables (p&lt / 0.05). For the qualitative data, focus group discussions were used to collect data. Tape recorded interviews were transcribed verbatim, field notes typed, sorting and arranging data was done and themes&nbsp / &nbsp / were generated. Thematic analysis was then done under the generated themes. Ethical issues pertaining to informed consent, anonymity, confidentiality and the right to withdraw from the&nbsp / study were respected in this current study. The findings in the current study revealed that a big number of the participants were physical active both at work and recreation domains. However,&nbsp / there was no statistically significant association between physical activity and the demographicvariables. The results in this study revealed that the majority of participants were good&nbsp / physical activity promoting practices, although there was no significant association between physical activity levels and the physical activity promoting practices. The finding in this study revealed that discussing physical&nbsp / activity and giving out information regarding physical activity to their clients were the most common methods used in promoting physical activity. However, participants also highlighted barriers they&nbsp / ace in promotion of physical activity such as policies on physical activity, cultural influence, nature of work, time management as well as environmental barriers. The study demonstrates the&nbsp / need for all stakeholders to come up with solutions to break the barriers to promotion of physical activity. In return it will bring about enormous health&nbsp / benefits to the general population.</p>

Larsson, Helena January 2011 (has links)
Research results do not always reach out in care to patients and clinically active personnel. This can lead to the result that the scientific basis, as health care, according to Swedish law must rest upon are not offered. The reason that scientifically knowledge does not reach out can be such a lack of knowledge about how research is disseminated and how the results can be translated into its own practice. An extensive field of research in nursing relates conversation, communication and reflection related to the relationship between health professionals and patients. Reflection should be seen as a central phenomenon in health care to gain new understanding and lead to develop and change. Reflection in the context of anaction research project should lead to changes in relation to health professionals understanding and attitudes to the patient. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether changes occur in the staff´s view of oneself and the patient in an action research basedproject. Focus of the development project was the assessment of patients' pain. The study is qualitative. Data have been collected during focusgroup, transcribed and analyzed based on a hermeneutic method of analysis. Three main themes emerged from the analysis:the patient becomes a person, professional identity becomes clearer, team spirit is strengthened. Meanings of these three themes interpreted in relation to theories of personcentered care and transition. Participatory action research can be a way to increase the use of research and translate new knowledge to its own practice. In the study, participants expressed that their work resulted in a changed work with pain and pain assessment.

Gemensamt konstruktivt medarbetarskap : en plattform för framtiden / Common Constructive Empowerment : a platform for the future

Apelqvist, Birgitta, Olsson, Ann-Sofi January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to try to make a chart of views around a Common Constructive Empowerment (CCE) in order to set base for a platform to stand on due to further work around empowerment in organizations. The study is a qualitative research with a casestudy as a fundamental design with an approach to positive psychology, which was carried out in a chemical industry. The data collection took place in focused group interviews with four to six participants/interview. At these interviews four focus areas were discussed; common empowerment, leadership, shared leadership and coaching. In the study five themes has been defined that can be seen as a platform; responsibility, confidence, communication, cooperation and commitment. The base for a platform consists of five words that can be seen as a mutual language in order to keep on with the communication; confidence, honesty, reliability, responsibility and communication.
