Feeling at Home and Finding a Home for Syrian Refugees

Enriquez, Emilybeth 28 February 2022 (has links)
While housing has been recognized as an essential component of refugee resettlement, access to housing is difficult for refugees. This thesis examines the approach to essential services like housing services provided by faith-based organizations (FBOs). In studying how FBOs conceptualize the home and convey their approach to housing for refugees, I aim to put emphasis on the concept of home. Using Foucauldian discourse analysis to examine the narrative FBOs have created of home for refugees I will argue that FBOs conceptualize home as immaterial, meaning that it is an 'affective construct' or an emotional feeling rather than a material reality. The research revealed that while FBOs work in the community is undeniable the focus on creating the emotions associated with the home, the limited attention to a physical place refugees can call home reveals the lack of attention granted to FBO’s websites in their approach to housing for refugees. Therefore, the physical concept of the home needs to receive more attention from FBOs.

Our thesis is devoted to the study of information technology and communication (ICT), their uses, impacts and their appropriations as well as the constraints which slow down their integration in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). Our research allowed :To analyze the acceptability factors of the information system by adopting a behavioral approach and aims at showing the necessity of an immaterial approach (Human / Cultural, organizational / managerial ...) in the conduct and management of the project of the information system (IS). To Consider two levels of analysis: The micro level to analyze the immaterial factors relative to the methodology of the implementation project of IS and the immaterial factors relative to the phases of the project of the IS. The macro level to analyze the immaterial factors relative to the strategy of assistance and support, diffusion of ICT in SME. To Concept design of a research model and doing two tests: The first basic test of our model in pre-adoption allowed to show a statistically significant correlation between the immaterial factors and the acceptability factors. Communicate the results of the first test. The second test model in post-adoption phase allowed to confirm the continuity of the acceptability of IS in post-adoption with the increase of the rate of acceptability of IS. Confirm the continuity of the consideration of the immaterial factors in the project of implementation of an IS with the increase of the rate of system immateriality. Deduct that our immaterial approach allowed to improve the rate of acceptability of the IS and, consequently, to increase the rate of success of the project of implementation of IS.

Clubes sociais negros: lugares de memória, resistência negra, patrimônio e potencial / Social black clubs: memory places, black resistance, heritage and potential

Escobar, Giane Vargas 27 March 2010 (has links)
The Black Social Clubs had an important place in Brazilian society formation. They broke the standards of a time, acting in the fight against slavery and the racial discrimination. The more ancient place is located in Rio Grande do Sul (South of Brazil), and it represents the greater representation. The objective of this study is to know what principal measures should be done by the club managers and State about the preservation of these places that, in the end of the XX century and the beginning of the new millennium, have been searching survive to the disarticulating problems, neglecting and asking for help. The methodology of this work is a documentary and bibliographic research as well as techniques of the oral history and participant observation, with econographic character, doing an analysis of the final routings of the 1st National Meeting of Black Clubs and Societies, occurred in 2006, in Santa Maria/RS. This meeting was a historical mark, constructing a new paradigm with demands registered in the Santa Maria Letter , which pointed the principal guidelines for the club directors and the Public Power in coming years. The investigation has the principal objective of suggesting public policies in order to preserve, keep, strengthen, spread and safeguard these places of resistance and black identity, focusing the study on Treze de Maio, a Black Social Club created by workers of the extinct railroad in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, mainly in its birth, from 1903 to 1914 and its revitalization as a community museum in the XXI century. This museum appears as a strategy, a reinvention of the heritage, with an eye in the past, searching the origins, but with actions in the present to recognize and register this centennial club and other pairs as immaterial heritage of Brazilian society. In this sense, it is consider as the principal result of this work, the opening process of the Social Black Clubs Register in Brazil, by the National Historic and Heritage Institute, (NHHI) in November 5th,2009, which will guarantee, after the inventory, the elaboration of a Safeguard Plan, which contemplates the National Politic of Immaterial Heritage.

Idiot Diagram : DIS GON BE SHAPED LIKE A MUFFIN at some point / Taking care of business

Hundevad Meng, Cecilie January 2015 (has links)
The essay acts as a blueprint over my artistic practice. It is through the friction caused by th relations between the Keywords mentioned above I strive to achieve a dynamic which will act as an interlocutor between the fields, which are not separated but which fail to understand each others' logic and instead more or less intentionally seek to overwrite each other. / [I examensarbetet ingår utställningen: "Taking care of business":] The show was a total installation spanning over 7 days in which Studio Stök (Fredrik Fermelin and I) were constantly keeping the exhibition going: One room was filled with gelatine and lasers, was connected to another room by a tunnel in which a robotic vacuum cleaner constantly active. The other room was filled with +20 office chairs with incense sticks. Fredrik and I were never seen, but for 13 hours a day (07:00am-06:00pm), we mopped up the water from the "melting" gelatin so people could walk, lightning new incense, switching vacuum cleaners and mixing playlists with binaural beats for the tunnel. It was a way of catering an immediate sensation experienced as a viewer, no textualization was presented and enunciated indicating the exhibition was to be read in a certain way, and no artist was present creating a somewhat eerie sensation of a presence or absence. The smells were carried through the exhibition by the draft from the open doors and each room thus pre-empted the other. . Each room had an entrance and people were thus entering from two directions, there was no wrong way of entering and experiencing, the choreography of the exhibition created a sort of moebious strip which ended as quickly as it had lasted. During the week various flash events were held where the backspace which in normal circumstances acts as the entrance was opened. Material: Various Teknik: Installation The exhibition and partially the essays was a completely collaboration between Cecilie Hundevad Meng and Fredrik Fermelin as the artist group Studio Stök. The Exhibition and the essay(s) was only indirectly connected. / <p>The essay was abstractly linked to the exhibition.</p>

Le rattachement territorial fiscal des prestations de services immatérielles à l'aune du droit et de la technologie / Territoriality and immaterial services with regard to legal rules and information and communication technologies

Sinapan, Tatiana 13 December 2010 (has links)
Currently, many companies may already operate in other countries without needing to have a physical presence. In this work, the main problem was to know how to preserve the revenue of the states (VAT and tax on corporate profits) in the context of immaterial beyond-borders services in the era of IT. In this perspective, it appears that the question of territorial connection of immaterial services is closely related to a problem of identification and location of the parties. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the cooperation and even to coordinate, first, between various authorities in France, and secondly, between tax authorities and IT providers.

Some theoretical answers to the contemporary capitalism\' s vicissitude: criticism or fetichism?

Mello, Gustavo Moura de Cavalcanti 31 October 2007 (has links)
In this dissertation I analyse, through marxian concepts, the notions of immaterial labour - as exposed by Antonio Negri and André Gorz, - and of post-great industry - developed by Ruy Fausto, Eletério Prado and Leda Paulani -, which are in the center of these authors\' interpretations concerning the current phase of development of the capitalist mode of production. With this, I intend to, on the one hand, apprehend the theoretical problems of these attempts of understand the contemporary capitalism based in the concepts of immaterial labour and pos-great industry; and on the other hand, call attention to the force and atuality of the work of Marx and the concepts of abstract labour, of relative plus-value, of real subsuntion of the labour to the capital, of great industry, amongst others.

Festejando São Benedito: a congada em Ilhabela, recurso cultural brasileiro / Celebrating São Benedito: the congada in Ilhabela, brazilian cultural resource.

Caponero, Maria Cristina 14 December 2009 (has links)
Inheritance basically Portuguese, the religious parties in Brazil, earn popular profile, being very important to the popular culture development and national identity. In Ilhabela, north coast of São Paulo State, São Beneditos Party which has as a culminating point the São Beneditos Congada has being realized an hundred fifty years ago, without any interruption. This party received great African influence and didnt become a simple entertainment, keeping its tradition as a manifestation of great popular religiosity, where the sacred and the profane were connected in a faith and solidarity proof, which passes along generations and consists of a Brazilian immaterial patrimony. We must understand that not only the government must acts as the responsible under an engagement for the preservation and safeguard of this cultural resource, but also the whole local community, the truth owner of the knowledge and from whom depend the effective practice on the transmission for the future generations. This study realized a bibliographic and inquiry research, looking for a theoretic reference to the understanding and elucidation of the facts, without despising the collective memory register obtained through opened interviews made with the party owners.

Biehl, Caroline January 2018 (has links)
This study aimed to identify, present and analyze, based on immaterial labor, the work and the strategy of living of the authoral and independent scene musical life in the hyper-spectacle society. Its theoretical basis was grounded on the notion of immaterial labor (GORZ, 2005; GRISCI, 2006; LAZZARATO; NEGRI, 2001), spectacle society (DEBORD, 1997), hyper-spectacle society (LIPOVETSKY 2015), music industry and independent musical scene (GALLETA 2014; HERSCHMANN, 2012; MAUDONNET, 2015; NETO, 2015; FRANCIS, 2011; VIVEIRO; NAKANO, 2008) and existential consumerist strategy (BAUMAN, 2008a, BAUMAND, RAUD, 2017). The research was characterized as qualitative exploratory and reached the participation of fourteen authoral and independent scene musicians who have participated at least in one of two collective of musicians of the authorial and independent scene of Porto Alegre/RS and that are active in the scene . The data collection occurred through a focus group with six participants from one of the mentioned collectives and semi-structured interviews with eight other musicians from both collectives. Content analysis followed Minayo's (2001) instructions and supported three categories of analysis: (i) (self)composition and immaterial labor: the hard art of being authorial and independent scene musician; (ii) music and authorial and independent scene; and (iii) the strategy of living life looking for tuning. The study allowed to show the effort in looking for tuning as a strategy of living the authoral and independent scene musicians life. Something that occurs through the tension – consenting, resisting – regarding to the principles and values that circulate in the independent scene, increasingly dependent. The strategy of living life looking for tuning explicitly explains the debate between harmony and cacophony, showing itself to consistent with the existential consumerist strategy (BAUMAN, 2008a; BAUMAND, RAUD, 2017).

No. of bitstreams: 1 Gabriella Vasconcellos de Araújo.pdf: 6841303 bytes, checksum: 42360584ae5638034dfacf0dfaf75db2 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-09-10 / In the late 1930s, the Brazilian State created the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Patrimony (IPHAN) with the aim of preserving brazilian material culture. Later, the 1988 Federal Constitution extended IPHAN's operation by incorporating immaterial patrimony. It is considered material or immaterial cultural patrimony every cultural property that is recognized by the social group as a reference of its culture, its history, present in the memory of the people and that is part of everyday life. Since the creation of the National Program of Immaterial Patrimony (PNPI) until March 2018, have been registered forty-one Immaterial Cultural Patrimony of Brazil, among them the paneleiras de Goiabeiras, the object of study of this work. The central problem of this work was based on the following question: The recognition of the Metier of the paneleiras de Goiabeiras as a cultural property of immaterial nature by the IPHAN contributed to the recognition and strengthening of the tradition of the paneleiras, of the social groups involved in the process of production of the clay pan and for the socioeconomic development of the region where the paneleiras are established? The research was carried out through direct observation, analysis of Vitória’s city map, with a look at the neighborhood of Goiabeiras, analysis of documents and cultural records, as well as in - depth interviews with the holders of knowledge. As a result, it was verified that despite the recognition of the Metier of the paneleiras de Goiabeiras as a cultural property of immaterial nature by the IPHAN, the metier is at risk of extinction due to the lack of interest of the descendants to continue the metier, due to the absence of effective public policies that recognize and disseminate the work developed by the community, as well as by the lack of recognition of the Capixaba society of the cultural works developed by their fellow countrymen / No final da década de 1930, o Estado Brasileiro criou o Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN) com o intuito de preservar a cultura material brasileira.

Barreto, Luisa Marques 04 May 2012 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-26T18:11:36Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Luisa Marques Barreto.pdf: 548292 bytes, checksum: 2ff3b9f6414739ca61212e17d9bb8876 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-05-04 / This research is about the impact caused by the proximity between producers and receivers in the context of cyberspace cultural production. This phenomenon has directly affected author status and the way it is constructed in society. The digitalization of cultural products and the network sharing have destabilized three fundamental categories that holds the copyright: the author, the property and the labor. The purpose of this research is to introduce some changes regarding the epistemological notion of intellectual property as a remuneration copyright source. These changes affect significantly the ways in which the works communicate with public. This is a relevant thing why among other related factors, the control over the intangible works reproduction becomes increasingly more complex and inefficient. The problem of this research resides in the fact that both, the author-function as the user's role, has been radically altered impacting the way the discourses and the cultural production circulates. The theme will be studied from two angles of analysis: from the standpoint of the legal system and power structures related of cultural industry, and from culture. We will introduce debates regarding intellectual property (Virno 2003, Hardt & Negri 2005, Gorz 2005), free culture (Lessig 2004, 2009, 2005; and Lemos, 2005, 2010, 2011); author-function (Foucault, 1969) and the concept of immunization paradigm developed by Roberto Esposito (2005, 2010). The studies published during the period of open public consultation by the Culture Ministry in 2007 by the academic groups linked to the FGV, USP and UFSC still formed the basis for understanding in the legal field which are the proposed changes to the copyright Brazilian reform law, 9.610/98. The research result was an update of discussions that are not always correlated and when are systematically analyzed can show significant changes in the ways of thinking the new relationship between author, work and public in the cognitive networks of cyberspace / Esta pesquisa trata do impacto causado pela aproximação entre produtores e receptores na produção cultural no ciberespaço, que afetou diretamente o status do autor e o modo como ele se constrói na sociedade.
