Is God dead? The Nietzschean phrase about the death of God” and the vitality of monotheisms in the Modern Age / ¿Dios ha muerto?

Uhde, Bernhard 09 April 2018 (has links)
Currently, the great monotheistic religions –Judaism, Christianity and Islam– may seem anachronic. Judging from their principles and rituals, they appear to belong to the Middle Ages. This seems to be confirmed by a brief consideration of the history of Western science, certainly marked by first philosophy, and by its division into its three periods: ancient, medieval and modern. The One, recognized by Plotinus as the necessary condition of all multiplicity, and which religions identify with God, may be considered the principle of medieval thought. Alongside Descartes, modernity replaced this principle, and by the end of this period Nietzsche claimed that God is dead! God remains dead! We have killed him!” But, is God dead? If the Modern Age, which started with Nietzsche, has killed God, does it mean that monotheistic religions have also been deprived of life and vitality? Or do they continue to live thanks to a free and self-determined assent to a living God that can be thought in relation to the world and to men and women?

The great volume of writings that has circulated inside and outside of Palestine has outlined the necessity for the standardization of the Jewish canon by a portion of the Pharisaic rabbinate and, at the same time, it was a representative of the illegitimacy that many communities have seen in some writings, as well as the autonomy that has been directed to the interpretations of the Mitsvah (oral Law) from different halakhot (practical form of the Mitsvah). In face of this process, we return our analyzes to the distinct voices present in this course and which are represented mainly by the Mishnah and the Qumran Manuscripts. The first source, has declared official, contains the compilation of the Oral Law from the studies made by the Schools of Pharisaic Sages established in the ancient Near East from the 4th Century BCE ; the second, resulting of the writings from the Palestinian diaspora, contains a rich collection of the precepts designated in the Oral Law, as well as a sectarian legislation belonging to the Qumran community. Since we have the possibility to find in the Qumran Manuscripts distinct halakhot from those present in the writings that have given shape to the Pharisaic Jewish canon, we place the understanding of the events that have allowed the rise of rabbinical Judaism to the voices that were hidden from this process, provinding a greater clarity to the (in)fidelity of the official Jewish canon with other literary traditions, since the sources do not demonstrate any legislative homogeneity even within Palestine.

Assis, Robson Dias de 13 July 2012 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In this research is listed some of the changings that occurred in Congregation Our Lady of Sion, mainly the changings that have a close relation with the behaviour that is practiced and presented by the Congregation. The aim, while the research was being done, was to perceive if the aproximation of the sisters to Judaism had modified their religious practices and, by extension, the practices of the people that interact socialy with them. It was also observed that the Congregation had a declive in the noviciate due to social transformations occurred in the 60 s and 70 s of last century. These two decades influenced not only the noviciate of the Congregation, the way to manifest yourself religiously was profoundly alterated, in other words, the religious habitus of the congregation shows that, like in other religious segments, is possible to have an official vinculation with Catholic Church and complement it with caracters from other tradition, in this case, the Judaism. At last, in the search to understand the identity of the sisters it was verified that there is a concern about to affirm themselves as catholic, however the identity shown is marked by the jewish tradition, or a hybrid identity.

Mística  e razão na dialética teológica rabínica: a dinâmica da filosofia de Abraham J. Heschel / Mystique and reason in rabbinic theological dialectic: the dynamics of Abraham J. Heschel\'s philosophy

Alexandre Goes Leone 18 November 2008 (has links)
Abraham Joshua Heschel (1906 1972), important philosopher of Judaism of the twentieth century, turned his attention direct to the traditional rabbinic literature in the book Torah Min Ha-shamaim Be-Aspaklaria Shel Ha-Dorot. He addressed especially the Talmud and the Midrash. From the Heschelian reading of rabbinic literature emerges a dialectical approach of the theological trends that animated the debates of the first rabbis Those debates review issues like the human and divine elements in revelation, Gods immanence and transcendence, the relationship between religious observance and the spirit behind it, the ideas on miracle and many other themes of rabbinic debate. Heschel identifies in two schools of thought of the first and second centuries of the Common Era, the mystical School of Rabbi Akiva and the more rationalistic School of Rabbi Ishmael the two main paradigms that dialectically tensioned rabbinic thought from the ending of Antiquity and during Middle Ages. According to Heschel, the two tendencies permeate rabbinic thought since them. Heschel makes several conclusions on the relationship between reason and mysticism in Jewish religious experience from this dialectical reading. These conclusions deepen the modern debate on the nature of religious experience. They are also a powerful critique against fundamentalist readings of Jewish traditional texts.

Santas e sedutoras: as heroínas na Bíblia hebraica - a mulher entre as narrativas bíblicas e a literatura patrística / Saints and charmants: the heroines in the Hebrew Bible - the women between the Biblical narratives and the patristic literature

Eliézer Serra Braga 15 February 2008 (has links)
The objective of this study is the analysis, by the socio-literary boarding approach, of the characterization that the Hebrew Bible mentions about three women, or women groups, characters of its narratives. Look foreword to figure out her sexual behavior and her morality in contrast with the requirements made on the woman in other parts of this same Bible, considering the woman importance for the traditions of the Israel\'s formation. It will be also looked foreword to find out some contrasts even superficially, between the judgment that makes the Biblical narrator as the apparent unorthodox behavior of these women and the rabbinical judaism arguments and the first thinkers of the Christianity and their interpretation such as, this kind of feminine behavior. Will they be Lot\'s daughters and their incestuous relation, Tamar, Juda\'s daughter-in-law and her prostitution and Noemi and Rute\'s saga in the episode of the seduction of Boaz. The Hebrew Bible is the main source of inspiration for the three most influential and growing religions in the world since second-century A. D. Part of the east and all through the west have found its socio-cultural basis in them, which are: the Judaism, the Christianity and the Islamism. Considering the feminine social behavior importance for such religions, it will be important to figure out what the Hebrew Bible has to say on which must be the values that bases it. The social attitudes are deeply influenced by the manner in how to conceive the divinity. Therefore, it becomes extremely relevant to the West christianity, to figure out, how especially the judaism and the Christianism 8 interpreted the Biblical texts with regard to the current women into the Biblical narratives, in order to eliminate the differences and injustices motivated by religious mistaken Interpretations. Taking in consideration the notable \"androcentrism\" of the authors, reviewers and Bible editors, witch according to some critics was one of the signs of their devotion, determining the way they wrote their texts, and considering still the misogyny that predominated the Biblical texts interpretation art up to now, it\'s important to find out if the West Christian devotion is not totally supported on a concealed prejudicial basis of religious concepts attributed to the divine revelation, thanks to the interested interpretations even though to the Biblical authors intentions regarding woman.

Arnold Schoenberg: salmos, orações e conversas com e sobre Deus / Arnold Schoenberg: psalms, prayers and conversations with and about God

Perola Wajnsztejn Tapia 19 March 2012 (has links)
A dissertação apresenta obras judaicas do compositor Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951). / The dissertation presents Jewish texts of the compositor Arnold Schoenberg (1874- 1951). From the selected works of his, the focus was just on the texts that were part of them, including the authors reflections about each one of the related themes: the principles of the Jewish religion, the society at the time, the Shoa (the Holocaust) and the creation of the state of Israel. The research revealed an important aspect: the faith of Schoenberg in God was the base for several of his compositions, according to his writings and letters. From these writings also was possible to elaborate a picture of the way of thinking of the author about his times that was full of changes. Schoenberg was a big agent in the musical transformation in this period, and he also expressed himself clearly about his vision as a citizen and Jewish in the Nazi German before the Second World War.

In order to illustrate biblical exegesis, translations made directly from Hebrew are examined on the basis of the interpretations of Rashi: one of the great savants of Judaísm. Among the translations are those of Haroldo de Campos, André Chouraqui, Rabbi Meir Matzliah Melamed and Aryeh Kaplan, to which I compare my own translation (DaI Fabbro, author of this dissertation). The analysis examines linguistic levels (syntactic, morphologic and lexico-semantic) as well as pragmatic and stylistic factors. The theoretical support for this dissertation comes from Umberto Eco (the concept of "text intention"), Neusa Travaglia (the translation as "resignificance") and Patrick Dahlet (linguistical-cognitive approach of textual production). It is concluded that all the translations are concemed with meaning in terms of Hebrew language and culture, in other words, they search for the intention of the textoThe differences between translations are due to (1) the linguisticallevel privileged by each of the translators, (2) point of view, (3) the relation between translator and reader (pragmatics) and (4) stylistic variations / Mestrado / Tradução / Mestre em Linguística Aplicada

The new Christian, Félix Nunes de Miranda, was judged twice by the Holy Offices from Llerena, Spain, and from Lisbon, Portugal. In 1696 he was arrested accused of robbery and of Jewish practices and in the period from 1697 to 1727, he and his family moved to Campos da Cachoeira in Bahia to restart their lives far away from the Holy Offices. After 30 years living in Brasil, Felix returned to the kingdom accused of relapse in Judaism, a crime by which he was burned. Besides his trajectory, it was researched to analyse the religious patrimony in two aspects, the practices by which he was accused and the beliefs he affirmed he has been taught.

O uso do computador e da internet pela comunidade judaica ortodoxa paulistana / The use of computers and of the Internet by the the orthodox Jewish community in São Paulo city

Guertzenstein, Daniela Susana Segre 26 June 2008 (has links)
The present doctorate thesis expounds, initially, some definitions about Orthodox Judaism, varieties of Orthodox Judaism, its educational models and a brief history of the orthodox Jewish community of São Paulo in order to assist the learning and discussion about how the technological inclusion and the virtual interactions of its schools students take place in this context. It was attempted to demonstrate how the orthodox rabbis establish rules and prohibitions concerning the use of computers and of the Internet, making the interaction between their communitys members and outsiders of their own physical environments more difficult because they fear that technological changes will drive their followers to abandon practices that ensure the continuity of their community. Considering that today the virtual enclosure is increasingly necessary to integrating the citizens into society, the treatise at hand approaches an important issue in a pioneer way expounding what the Internet represents to these individuals and implies the hardness faced by the ultraorthodox rabbis to solve the difficulties related to the use of the new technologies and of the Internet into the secular study programs in their schools. For the present tractate, elaborated between the years of 2004 and 2007, theoretical formulations available in articles, magazines, and other studies about the orthodox Jewish community were employed, as well as an extensive field research interviewing this community `s authorities and leaders was performed. Another source of the acquired and analyzed data are questionnaires regarding the use of computers and of the Internet, responded by the principals of all Jewish orthodox schools in the city of São Paulo accredited by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and Culture and by their students of the 10th and 11th grades (High School).

Trzonowicz, Alberto Samuel Milkewitz 24 October 2006 (has links)
