Sancho, Marie-Claire 08 1900 (has links)
An important number of individuals suffer from negative consequences associated with a negative social identity (i.e., members of street gangs). A number of them are able to get rid of that identity, whereas others continue to belong to a negative group. We theorize that individuals who no longer identify to a negative group are those who integrate a pro-social identity, in conflict with their original identity. In this thesis, we bring forward the argument that in the presence of a strong identity conflict between two identities; the identity integration process follows a subtractive pattern. In order to support this statement, the five following sub-hypotheses have been tested: a high level of identity conflict predicts a low level of identification towards the identity with a perceived lower status (hypothesis 1). The status attributed to an identity predicts of the level of identification toward that identity (hypothesis 2). A high level of identity integration of the new identity predicts a low level of identification towards the identity with the perceived lower status (hypothesis 3). A high level of identity integration of the new identity predicts a low level of deviance (study 1) and alcoholism (study 2) (hypothesis 4). Finally, a high level of identity integration of the new identity predicts a high level of well-being (hypothesis 5). Results from the first study (N=42), conducted on a sample of young girls placed in a rehabilitation center, support hypothesis 2 and 3 whereas results from study 2 (N=28), conducted on a sample of individuals member of Alcoholics Anonymous, support hypotheses 2 and 5.

Emerging forms of food anxieties among Western contemporary Societies : an analysis and reconstruction of discourses and practices among food chain protagonists

Précigout, Frédéric 25 May 2011 (has links)
While today the sanitary security of food is largely secured, we examine the reasons why food fears occupy such an important place in discourses by ordinary eaters, food industry professionals as well as experts. We attempt here to analyze such fear-related discourses so as to determine grounds and justifications. We defend the hypothesis that such fears should be considered as social metaphors - food revealing the expression and crystallisation of the diverse protagonists’ identity crisis. In a comprehensive perspective, we reconstruct life stories focusing on food fears then we confront them; finally we articulate them with the social and historical context they are stemming from. By deconstructing discourses, we reconstruct the intrinsic logic of such fears.

Santos, Maria Rita Ribeiro dos 16 October 2014 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The present search has with mean aim to examine how AIDS was constructed as a social cause. It investigates more particularly the process by which the disease has become a public issue, for that AIDS was analyzed into its 30 years of struggle, starting with its appearance in the media until the institutionalization of the cause. To reach this goal, bibliographic resources, interviews and internet material were used - namely - collection of magazine, webites that reported the creation of institutions and interviews with informants-key were made to understand the trajectory of militants "sergipanos". The dissertation is divided into three stages, the first is the resumption of an analysis of the emergence of AIDS in Brazil, with the performance of the gay movement, the State interference for prevention and treatment, the creation of NGOs dedicated exclusively to fighting disease and a brief analysis of the trajectory of two militants, Daniel Herbert and Herbert de Souza, important actors in the national political struggle and in this case, more specifically in fighting AIDS as HIV positive. The second point refers to the arrival of AIDS in Sergipe and how it was being handled by the institutions and governments, pioneering actions and measures taken to fight the disease. Finally, the third and final chapter analyzes three modes of engagement in the fight against AIDS, the first through professionalization, then how multi engagement led to fighting AIDS, and finally, how the disease makes a militant arise. Thus, this work may examine the fight against AIDS in a diversity, making a resumption of key moments to understand how AIDS has become a social problem and, how around this problem, has emerged a struggle that became increasingly institutionalized.

It was analyzed the impact and consequences of homosexuality on these professional teachers‟ career, besides describing their family relationship, their primary academic qualification, and their labor market. The sample was comprised of five professional dancers/teachers. The methodological reference being used was qualitative wise. As the purpose of the research is not limited to a single case, but to a pre-selected group of professional dancers/teachers, the adopted procedure for data collection was a multiple-case study. It was chosen, therefore, a life trajectory‟s study case. The research was made by means of a thematic semi-structured interview. An intentional sample was chosen, as the selected sample is formed by individuals who work with dancing, are openly homosexuals, and whose academic career was in Physical Education field. In order to process the data, the content analysis technique was used. The results show that mothers are present as the major family reference and demonstrated, likewise fathers, their concerns relating to teachers‟ low pay. Today all families accept homosexuality. The Catholic religion, however, sprang the feeling of inferiority in two interviewees. All the interviewees found through body practices a greater acceptability from workmates and friends. Concerning labor market, it was identified a preference for working in non-formal environments, the existence of few public policies for dancing in Rio Grande do Sul, that prejudice is still present in both formal and non-formal workplaces, and that there is a concern relating to who is integrated in the labor market, since many dancing classes tutors do not have the necessary formation, according to the interviewees. It is believed that the present research contributes scientifically for gender and sexuality studies. However, many studies related to this theme can still be put into practice. Atualmente, todas as famílias aceitam a homossexualidade.

La pluralité des formes culturelles légitimes en Iran : la distinction en question / The plurality of legitimate cultural forms in Iran : distinction in question

Khosravi, Behnaz 06 November 2018 (has links)
By looking through the history of Iranian society throughout the twentieth century, we are struck by the brutal and rapid social, demographic, political and economic transformations. Based on this observation, this thesis attempts to reconstruct the plurality of legitimate cultural forms resulting from a state of crisis along with a lasting and structural instability (structural changes in socializing institutions, multiple downgrades and reclassifications of social positions, lack of stabilization orimposition of a legitimate culture). The analysis is founded on a macro-sociological approach, on one hand, based on the history of rapid mutations in Iranian society in order to trace their impact on social stratification, notably the composition of the dominant classes of society, and on the other, grounded on a corpus of statistical data at the national level in order to draw the schema of the Iranian social space where are positioned the different social groups characterized by their economic and educational capital, as well as by their cultural tastes and practices or their religious and political orientations. In the second part, this thesis is based on over twenty interviews with persons who belong to the dominant classes in order to reconstruct their life trajectory, to show their socialization processes during a history of breaks, and to highlight the social conditions of building a plurality of legitimate cultural forms in Iran.

Mc Kay, Krystina 04 1900 (has links)
This research explores the life trajectory of an offender serving a life sentence in the community after having been granted a full parole. The goal of this research is to identify which of the five main theoretical concepts, explaining the cessation of criminal behavior, best indicates what led him to cease his criminal behavior. To reach this objective, an exploratory qualitative research was preferred. A man serving a life sentence in the community was interviewed on numerous occasions. These interviews were aimed at getting the utmost account of his life story and then, by integrating the appropriate theories in the research process, selecting the concepts that best explained the cessation of his criminal behavior. A series of nine interviews, each one lasting approximately an hour and a half, were conducted. For the purpose of this memoir, the life story of Mr. P is presented and analyzed so has to illustrate the application of the main theoretical concepts linked to the cessation of criminal behavior. By analyzing the data collected, the importance of considering the identity concept in the cessation of criminal behavior was noted just as the psychological change that comes with it. The discussion also addresses certain intervention strategies that are likely to offer an improved support for people working with offenders serving long sentences. These interventions take into account the challenges that arise when working with this type of clientele and they aim at maximizing the social reinsertion potential of these individuals upon release.

Saída das ruas ou reconstrução de vida: a trajetória de estudantes universitários ex-moradores de rua em São Paulo / Getting off the streets or reconstruction of life: the trajectory of university students, former homeless people in Sao Paulo

Marcolino, Sheila Costa 18 June 2012 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-29T14:16:14Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Sheila Costa Marcolino.pdf: 2022599 bytes, checksum: 4923098c150499cf8cd94d7ee93afb38 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-06-18 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The aim of this research is identifying in the trajectory of university students, who are also former homeless people in Sao Paulo, objective and subjective elements that contributed with their process of getting off the streets. The narrative of the researched subjects, besides presents a unique process that differentiates them in the context of the homelessness, conveys throughout their own voices and experiences an assessment of the social service which they accessed and used as homeless people. Thus, this study displaces the debate to the realm of effectiveness of the homeless people care policy, focusing on the social service s outcomes in the subjects process of overcoming and getting off the streets. The acknowledgment of social movements, the production of knowledge on homelessness, and the construction of homeless people care policy in Sao Paulo in the last 10 years, are fundamentally important for this research. This is because the achievements, stagnations and retrocession which historically have shaped the construction of that policy point out two premises: the first has an emergency character with a pattern focus based on job placement as the way to get people off the streets, and the second integrates principles of dignity, citizenship and recognition of the subject as well as the variety of needs and human capacity and potential.

O surgimento do gari comunitário: trajetórias de vida e trabalho de um novo trabalhador dentro do espaço da favela do morro do Andaraí / The emergence of community gari: trajectories of life and work of a "new worker" within the space of the favela Morro do Andaraí

Charles Barros de Figueiredo 13 May 2010 (has links)
This research intends to make a exploratory study about the Communitarian Street Cleaner Professional at Morro do Andaraí Community that works with garbage and his life trajectory. This activity as a laboratory was created by the Clean Slum Program (Clean Favela Program) of Rio de Janeiro City Hall through the Urban Cleaning Company of this City Hall (COMLURB) which is responsible by the public politics that executes the urban cleaning services of the city to be implemented in the slums/favelas of this city. This program was born upon the need of this company to solve the solid residual garbage problem very common in those considered poor living areas that until 1990s decade begin did not have a systematic and effective attendance in these areas because of the limitations to make these daily collections in accidental terrains and slopes and sometimes because of the violence that is present on these areas. The objective of this research is to analyze how the social experience in this job is characterized and how it is done throughout its life and work trajectory in the slum/favela until it gets to the formal worker condition through semi structured interviews done with the workers in a way that involves qualitative questions and that has as its investigative universe the meanings, reasons, aspirations, beliefs, values and actions of these individuals, expressed elements in a context of social structured relations in the work sphere and in their living places, the slum/favela. In being so this study reveals that the workers had an ascendant social trajectory since the moment (or during) they were inserted in a public politic of urban cleaning which is specific and focused to be executed in the slums/favelas, comparing their life story and trajectory in these places (social formation, unemployment, precarious jobs, social insecurity, social mobility). The life and work trajectory of a communitarian street cleaner professional is also crossed by a history of poorness, precariousness and economic difficulties inside a slum/favela context and precarious jobs experiences and of low qualification but that the actual position related to their parents trajectory shows a certain stability in their social and economic lives and in their jobs.
