Likewise, the education model adopted by Rural Schools in Settlements, which belong to this teaching method, has also attracted the interest of many researchers. That is because the MST (Movement of Landless Rural Workers) is the main social movement responsible for the effectuation of the discussions, and for the development of an educational project focused on attending the specificity of the rural population. In this study, we aim to analize the educational proposal developed in the public state school Iraci Salete Strozak, a land reform settlement school, which follows the MST principles. The school is located in the Marcos Freire Settlement, in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu. Our goal is to check if this school has an educational project different from the regular schools, as the Settlement School is associated to the ideological principles of the MST. And, because of that, if the students are aware of a classist social reality and, mainly, adept of the Marxism-Leninism concepts. The object of this study is the school itself and its capacity of formation and influence over the students. We intend to identify if there is a significant difference in the meanings constructed by young settled people about social reality because of the educational process developed by the school. That is, if the school, through its Political Pedagogical Project, can enable the construction of new subjectivity. During the research, we found several differences of opinion which make the educational project developed by the MST unfeasible. Besides that, we identified differences between the discourse about school professed by the idealizers and the students, who are their social base. For that reason, even fighting for a construction of a democratic model of teaching, the school may not actualize the development of liberating and autonomous education.

Engelmann, Solange I. January 2018 (has links)
The advancement of the Internet and digital media turns the cyberspace into a new channel for communication and information. In this way, various organizations and popular civil rights movements take over this space in order to exchange ideas and produce knowledge on the virtual public sphere. The digital media broadens the circulation of rural spaces and their social agents' social representations, like the people's movements fighting for land and agrarian reform in Brazil, as they begin to play a mediating role, broadening the public debate conditions, which were previously focused on the traditional monopolized media. This enables an expansion of discussions regarding civil rights demands and dialogues about the agrarian issue, in the digital media. In this sense, this study analyzes which representations on the Landless Rural Workers Movement's (MST) Popular Agrarian Reform project circulate on its digital media. We set off with a theoretical perspective from the Social Representations' Theory (TRS), emphasizing its mediating character to the contemporary debate on the uses and appropriations of digital media by popular movements in rural areas fighting for social rights and pursuing citizenship. We present a debate about the construction of a new citizenship in Brazil, the struggle for communicative citizenship and the potential of digital media in broadening the public visibility of popular movements in the virtual public sphere. We also perform a contextual analysis on the problems of the Brazilian agrarian issue, the MST's historical formation, as well as its political role in the country and on this organization's characteristics of the popular communication process The methodological approach is based on Content Analysis, in order to elaborate a textual research of the content and to analyze all the data and information collected during the interviews. We employed an interview technique with MST communicators and leaders. On-line qualitative research was carried out to collect informative contents of two of the organization's virtual pages and to formulate representative maps, based on the analysis of the social representations' progress and objectification. The qualitative study analyzes the information content in publications in the special online pages of the MST's National Land Reform Fair, in 2015, and in the MST's Fight for Land Reform's National Working Day, in 2016. It is concluded that the main social representations on the MST's Popular Agrarian Reform show it as a political movement, which, from its social struggle, transforms settlements areas into food producers to supply the urban centers. To this extent, being able to extend the agrarian reform function and seek to transform it into an alternative and sustainable project for the development of the farmlands.

Modulace interakcí interleukinů a jejich receptorů / Modulation of interactions between interleukins and their receptors

Nepokojová, Tereza January 2020 (has links)
Scaffolds are proteins with high conformational stability, allowing us to implement multiple mutations into specific parts of the protein. Even with these mutations, the structural integrity of the protein is maintained as well as its physical-chemical properties. These mutations give the specific scaffold new properties. In most cases it is the binding specificity towards previously chosen target. The biggest advantages of scaffolds are their small size, stability, low-cost manufacturing, and easiness of preparation. Scaffold utilized in this thesis is unique for having two binging surfaces designed on which it can be mutated. Each of those two surfaces can be separately mutated to develop a binging site for two different proteins. In our case these mutations led to binding two nonidentical receptors of a human cytokine. Mutations are made with a use of yeast display, one of the methods of directed evolution. The main focus of this thesis is changing an expression system of the binding proteins from the yeast system to a bacterial one, their production and purification followed by characterization of those binding proteins using biophysical methods. These methods were used to evaluate structural and thermal stability, and binding affinity to both receptors of the beforementioned binding proteins....

A Rhetoric of Betrayal: Military Sexual Trauma and the Reported Experiences of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom Women Veterans

Aktepy, Sarah Louise 01 April 2010 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / The primary objective of this pilot study was to understand the military experiences of OEF/OIF women veterans. Seven women veterans described accounts of sexual harassment and sexual assault, also known in the Veteran Health Administration (VHA) context as Military Sexual Trauma (MST). The prevalence and dialogue of MST both explicitly and implicitly throughout all the interviews justified examining MST on its own. As an alternative to tracking new cases of MST, this thesis provides an examination of the rhetoric of betrayal and suggests that objective knowledge of MST does not exist apart from such social conditions and one’s interpretations of them. Betrayal emerged as the way in which women veterans understood and made meaning of their MST experiences during the claims-making process. Women veterans incorporated strategies to manage the sexual harassment and sexual assault they experienced while in the military environment, since reporting MST was actively discouraged. Findings from this study suggest that the way we approach and understand MST as a social problem needs to be reconsidered and further examined.

Studies of the PMWE : Polar Mesosphere Winter Echoes

Persson, Simon January 2022 (has links)
This Master thesis examines a phenomenon that occurs in the upper polar atmosphere, namely, Polar Mesospheric Winter Echoes, or PMWEs. PMWEs are radar echoes observed by Very High Frequency Mesosphere Stratosphere Troposphere (VHF MST) radar, from altitudes of 60 to 76 km at 7 to 15 UT, in the winter months from the middle of September to the beginning of May. The aforementioned specifications are the partial results of this thesis.PMWEs are generally understood to be caused by turbulence; however, radar data indicate some rare cases where PMWEs can be created with velocities exceeding the speed of sound, which is not possible with current turbulence theory. Kirkwood et al., 2006 and Belova, Kirkwood, and Sergienko, 2013 hypothesised that infrasound could generate the necessary conditions for PMWEs with velocities equal to or exceeding the speed of sound. Observations of PMWEs presented in this thesis have been carried out by the MST radar ESRAD, located at Esrange (67 56’N, 21 04’E) near Kiruna in northern Sweden. The radar operates at 52 MHz and has been performing continuous radar observations since Dec 1996. Observations of the infrasounds presented in this thesis were carried out by a microbarometer located close to Rymdcampus in Kiruna. Access to the data is restricted, but through university administration, this master’s thesis has been granted permission to use the data for the study of PMWEs. The instrument performed continuous infrasound measurements from the 24th of May 2016 and forward. This thesis will perform a full analysis of all radar data from the 17th of Dec 1996 until the 31st of Jan 2021 to assess the altitude interval, diurnal interval and yearly interval. The data given in the first section are a result of this work. Additionally, space weather parameters relation with the occurrence of PMWEs is analysed. Space weather parameters are very important for the chemistry and conditions present in the mesosphere. It is shown thatt here is a strong relation between solar wind and PMWE occurrence, decent relation with Kp index and no to weak relation with solar particle event (SPE). Correlating space weather and PMWEs in greater detail could be the subject of other studies. Last but most interesting, microbarometer data will be analysed for days where high-speed PMWEs are detected. Because of the rarity of these high-speed PMWEs, only seven total cases were found from 24 May 2016 onward, making the analysis of the infrasound measurements very limited, and no connection was found. However, it was found that days with high-speed PMWEs had an abnormally low amount of infrasound detections, further making analysis difficult but raising questions of why. This could mean that infrasound signals might be hindered from reaching the ground on days where we have high-speed PMWEs. No further conclusions can be made, as this indicates relation but not causation. Airborne infrasound instruments could be used to detect weaker infrasound signals due to being unaffected by wind disturbance at the ground.

Therefore, this study aims to verify scientifically know as the criminal knowledge can be a legitimate instrument to promote the criminalization and stigmatization of these landless workers. Thus, the work takes as its starting point the characterization of their research subject, namely, the landless rural workers in its meaning of agrarian social movement, why it held an approach to the construction of social inequality and its correlation with the emergence and structuring of social movements, for, in the end, weave important considerations about what is meant by social Movement and Agrarian MST. Following aimed to explain how the criminal know contemporary Brazilian still shows a strong influence of the positivist criminological thought inaugurated by the Italian school centuries ago. It is shown how positivist criminology was responsible for creating a conception of social dangerousness and embrace a segregationist and selective criminological project, such that those individuals who were "classified" as a threat, should be removed from social interaction. We report how this discourse entered " the back door " of the criminal laws homelands and enabled the creation of an ideology of social defense and the criminalization of minorities (poor, landless ruais, black and so on). Finally, aiming to demonstrate the hypothesis elected, held a review of the work conducted by the Joint Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry ( CPMI ) and Urban Land Reform, known as "CPMI of Land ", specially her Final Report , highlighting Project Senate n . 264/2006 ( PLS No. 264 /06 ) and Project of House of Representatives n . 7485/2006 ( PL No. 7485 / 06 ), whose proposals are, appropriately, intended to spearhead a process of criminalization of landless legitimized by criminal law.

A quarrel concerning of the social politics vectors that condition the creation and application of the Right, presented on a perspective of Legal Sociology, in the analysis of the current relation between the Brazil's Landless Workers Movement - (MST) and the Judiciary Power, in the fight for the agrarian reform in the State of Pernambuco, constitute the fundamental tonic of this work. In contraposition to the traditional fundamental postulates of the Legal Positivism, based excessively on the neutrality and impartiality of the judge, with influence of the studies of Hans Kelsen, is placed an partial perspective, supported by the Critical Theory of the Right with a declared perspective socially engaged. The verification of the hypotheses, raised under a marxist literature, in favour of a social class determined by the Judiciary, with influence of ideological conditions, is tested by means of an empirical sociojurídica research concerning the engraved preliminary decisions in the actions of repossession, where the involved are the MST workers and farmers in the State of Pernambuco. To the end, was developed a comparative analysis of the arguments chosen for the magistrates for the support and legitimation of its decisions, with the target to understand if neutral and impartial or, in contrast, ideological partial.

Beaulieu-Pelletier, Geneviève 06 1900 (has links)
Mental states refer to the quality of one’s capacity to mentally elaborate and open up to his/her subjective experience in the here-and-now moment. Mental states differ relatively to the availability of the representational and affective resources triggered in order to organize the experience, and in the type of defensive and self-regulatory strategies used. The aims of this thesis were 1) to deepen the evaluation of mental states through the creation and validation of a practical measure, the Mental States Task (MST), in order to evaluate differences in quality of mental states, and 2) to investigate the psychic properties and repercussions of the different mental states. The goal of the first article was to validate the MST. The first part of this article was dedicated to the validation of the French version of the MST, and the second part to the translation and validation of its English version. Results provide convincing evidence of validity and reliability, as well as an adequate predictive value with respect to a large range of related concepts, in both its French and English versions. The MST appears to well represent both low- and high-level mental states according to the reflective continuum, which were found to be linked to a large range of negative/immature and positive/mature constructs, respectively. In addition, each mental state measured by the MST appears to have particular characteristics relative to the mental and emotional processes used to deal with the experience. The purpose of the second article was to deepen the investigation of the predictive value of the MST, through the evaluation of the psychic costs generated by the different qualities of mental states—the costs presumably depending on the representational resources available and the regulatory strategies used. Results suggest that using low-level mental states generates higher energetic costs, resulting in a subsequent ego-depletion effect. Conversely, high-level mental states generate fewer costs, protecting from a subsequent ego-depletion effect. The MST appeared to be an efficient tool in the assessment of the energetic repercussions produced by the different mental sates.

Gomes, Rogerio. January 2019 (has links)
