Previous issue date: 2013-11-05 / This research aims to analyze the women s representations in advertisements broadcast in monthly large-circulation magazines dedicated to fitness and health. We consider the female body there represented as a fluid body, which serves as a model of life for the reader. Our hypothesis is that by following the standards stipulated by the advertising campaigns in such magazines, women reshape themselves entirely. One of our main theoretical references is the thought of Zygmunt Bauman, who defends that living along these patterns means living in a state of permanent transformation seeking imagery proximity with mass idols. The research corpus consists of advertisements published in the editions from August 2011 to August 2012 of the magazine Boa Forma, which is the long-lived publication with the largest circulation addressed to themes related to the female body in Brazilian s market. Ads from the same period published in the magazines Claudia, Nova and Women's Health are also brought to discussion in specific chapters. The analysis of the ads will include mainly the models offered by Lucia Santaella in works such as Corpo e Comunicação: sintoma da cultura e Culturas e Artes do Pós-Humano: da cultura das mídias à cibercultura. Methodologically, it is a documentary research based on survey of advertisements in that period, according to categories of representative features of the female figure in advertising / Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar as representações femininas em

PELAS PÁGINAS DE ZERO HORA, O JORNALISMO PÚBLICO (DES)COBERTO / THROUGHT ZERO HORA'S PAGES, THE PUBLIC JOURNALISM (UN)COVERDPérsigo, Patrícia Milano 09 April 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The present thesis approaches the practice of public journalism (PJ) by the press
media. The media context in the South of Brazil is called the RBS Phenomenon by
Guareschi and Ramos (1988), in which the Zero Hora Newspaper configures a business
capitalist model, becoming a strong competitor in the gauchos* media market. In addition to
this, according to Faccin (2009) the Rede Brasil Sul (RBS) today is the biggest media
network in the South of Brazil, which places it not only as the biggest owner of
communication vehicles as a spokesperson of this society. Having this vision of peculiar
context we embraced the Zero Hora Newspaper as our empirical object. From state of the art
researches we realized that the current of public journalism falls back on a vast number of
terms that sometimes are used as synonyms, sometimes used with subtle differences or
even with a great variety of applications. Haas (2006) in his studies of worldwide mapping of
public journalism elucidates the need of study development that dedicates to deeply
investigate the features and peculiarities in different geographic contexts. This way, the
problem question which guides this thesis is: How does the public journalism is revealed in
journalistic practices at Zero Hora? Accordingly, our general aim is to study the
manifestations of public journalism on Zero Hora, and more specifically to comprehend the
dynamic of these current journalistic practices on ZH; identify the understanding of journalists
in the newsroom as well as the management of this vehicle upon the PJ and confront them
with report analysis from news editorial. This thesis is theoretically structured with Rosen
(1996), Glaser (1999), Traquina (1999; 2003), Silva (2002; 2006) and Nip (2006). Secondly
we treated the media organizations and the journalistic production as of studies by Rodrigues
(1990), Esteves (1998), Traquina (1999; 2005), MacQuail (2012; 2013) and McCombs
(2009). As a research strategy we adopted the case study (YIN, 2005) and we used different
techniques to collect data as well as the document analysis, structured and semi-structured
interviews, non-participant systematic observation (MARCONI AND LAKATOS, 2003) and
analysis of reports from script elaborated by the researcher. Overall we identified that the
journalistic campaign coverage of Fundação Maurício Sirotsky Sobrinho, besides the
journalists profiles related directly to the news production, the subject coverage (local and
state regional) and the main news values perceived characterize as ways of manifestation of
PJ on ZH. This scenery shows that the vehicle has a manifestation potential of this practice.
However, ZH stands some organizational gates to this daily journalistic routine making its
product oscillate in terms of public journalism which leads us to say that sometimes it is
covered and sometimes not.
Agregado a
sociedade.
2005), McQuail (2012, 2013) e McCombs (2009).

Previous issue date: 2010-04-13 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The main goal of this dissertation was to collect social representations from elder people
and press about violence, abuse, and negligence against the elderly. In this dissertation
violence against elder people was treated using a psycho sociological approach through a
theoretical framework of the Social Psychology, conducted by the Social Representations
Theory, from Moscovici, using the contributions of Doise. This study was composed by
two technicals of research: a field and a documental research. The locus of the field
research was public spaces used by elder people for recreational and physical activities, in
Joao Pessoa, Paraiba. The documental research was done using internet searching tools to
find news related to this study from two different newspapers: Folha de São Paulo, and O
Norte. The keywords used were: "violence against elder people", "abuse against elder
people", and "elder people negligence". In the field research, twenty-eight elders,
averaging 71 years old, answered a social demographic, family arrangement, violence and
abuse questionnaire, as well as a deep interview. The interview content was run through
the Lexical Analysis from Alceste software through a standard procedure and crossed
analysis. This software was also used to process 126 news collected from the press. The
collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (chi square). The
results from the interview showed that the elders socially represented the violence as the
lost of the power of managing their lives and being independent, and the detachment of
themselves from their ideological reference of family, as well as the lost of the respect of
their children and the affective and financial security. The news released social
representations of violence against elders based on the social gain experienced by the elder
people, mainly through the Elderly Statute which assure them assistance and rights,
searching for active elders valorization. When both of the speeches are compared, social
representations got closer when the content focused the elderly rights and the violence
experienced. On the other hand, speeches got further as, in the case of elders, the speech
denoted bio psychosocial suffering because of their stigma as excluded beings. In the case
of the press, published social actions pointed to the inclusion of the elderly into the
society s life. The results were discussed based on the current literature, indicating a lot of
convergence in what was found. The study s potential limitations were also searched, in
order to point its applicability and suggest future research and interventions.

Mediální diskurz regulace médií: komparativní analýza českého a britského denního tisku / Media discourse of the regulation of media with an attention to cases of publicising information from phone hacking-comparative analysis of Czech and British daily newspapersPospíchal, Tomáš January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the media image of Czech and British press regulation, with a focus on daily newspapers. The theoretical part deals with selected normative requirements for media, the concept of public interest, the legislative framework of the press operation in the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom, self-regulation mechanisms of the British press, and, last but not least, ethical norms and professional practice that comes with the occupation of a journalist. The thesis also presents the main representatives and the basis of critical discourse analysis, the selected procedures of which are then used in the follow-up study of media content. The analytical part focuses on the discourse of selected Czech and British daily newspapers and examines it in the context of two events associated with state intervention into media regulation. Inthe case of the Czech Republic it is the approval of Law no. 52/2009, titled by the media as "muzzle law", in the case of the United Kingdom we are concerned with the exposal of illegal methods for obtaining information by News of the World, a British weekly. Both of these events led to significant media response, among other reasons because they were closely tied with the issue of media regulation, respectively press regulation. Using the tools of...

Previous issue date: 2009-03-26 / Our object is composed by the discourses contained in two Brazilian magazines: Men s Health and Nova. We approach the object through a transversal dialogue between the
communication and social sciences fields and the philosophy of Michel Foucault. From this perspective, we suggest as a theoretical proposition that mass media influences its receptors subjective constitutions an influence upon the constitution of their individual self. This influence operates mainly through norms : internalized rules that guide the individuals in a natural-like fashion Men s Health and Nova, publications with prescriptive contents, are part of this operation. The norm, however, is not inescapable: Foucault offers an alternative to its objective restriction of our subjective identities: the dimension of ethics, an existential
dimension in which we create our own selves through a free self-reflected intellectual exercise. After establishing our theoretical premises, we thoroughly investigate the way
through which the magazines discourses operate (analyzing 6 issues of each one of them), defining what we called their physiology . Our aim is to answer the following problem: is there, in the reception of the discourses contained in these magazines, an ethical dimension? For that we interviewed 21 receptors, to find out that they conduct their lives in a complex power play that is strongly established upon norms, either to affirm or deny them. Men s Health and Nova operate along with many other social instances in a regime where its receptors think themselves based on pre-established criteria, where ephemeral pleasures are
desired by some and criticized by all, while the ideal of eternal love is also a unanimous intention. At the same time, all value a specific kind of healthy body that is, at the same time,
beautiful and sexy. None of that, though, is perceived though an exercise of self-reflection, free pondering. In other words, none of that comes from an ethical dimension / Este trabalho tem por objeto a recepção dos discursos das revistas Men s Health e Nova.

Previous issue date: 2010-10-27 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This research investigates the construction of meaning rendered by the kind of presence of females, males and social based on interaction between the subjects of enunciation and statement, in an attempt to answer the problem of the proposed research: how the press media standardizes the women semblance in contemporaneity? The contemporary women's identities are highlighted in research through the woman semblance installed in verbal texts, visual and spatial of the covers from Claudia, Creative, Marie Claire and Nova Magazines. It starts from the assumption that there is a semblance of sexualized woman in all of them, from which each magazine will accomplish it by means that define it in the publishing market. This study s path was founded on the theoretical and methodological framework of semiotic discourse, built by Algirdas Julien Greimas and his associates. The corpus of the research was determined in the years 2007, 2008 and 2009, with the selection and clipping, set from the exploration of themes, figures of speech and the contents that were treated by their reiterations plastic and isotopic that evidence the choices of the announcer on how spell out to your readers. On this focus the covers were subjected to a comparative method in order to identify, through discursive interaction established between enunciating and enunciatee installed, the differences in the way to treat of the sexuality. The main objective was thus to seize the various visibilities pictured, with their different attendance at the meeting of the subjects imagery that arises and allows showing which state of the presence of a contemporary woman that the press media holds. Specifically, the objective was to understand the generative pathway of the sense of covers as subjects of communication and meaning with their modal cognitive doings (knowledge and power), performers (to do) volitional (willing), identity (being), which circulate as forms of life and appeal to be operationalized by the enunciatee. We explored how the effects of sense of formants plastics eidetic, topological, chromatic and of matter structure the aesthetic and ethical dimensions of the press media, with its particular aesthetical formula of to make feel their prescriptions through operations of manipulation by the seduction. We identified the existence of an invariant semblence from a performative competence of the sexuality that the press media assumes in the interactive relationship with the enunciator and the manner of conducting its regulation, thus defining the set of variants that shape the nuances responsible for targeting the public. The specifications of the modes of presence argumentative, precise way, indicative, intuitive way guarantee the existence of semiotics of interlocutors who, likely the celebrities parades on the covers, in which we find the ways of being the women who populates the collective imagination / Esta pesquisa investiga a construção de sentido processada pelos tipos de presença do feminino, do masculino e do social com base na interação entre os sujeitos da enunciação e do enunciado, na tentativa de responder o problema da investigação proposto: como a mídia impressa uniformiza os simulacros de mulher na contemporaneidade?

Previous issue date: 2012-10-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research s objective is to investigate the ways by which the modes of presence
of Daspu s prostitutes figures are being restructured in the national journalistic
communication under the impact of the homonymous fashion brand s website. It s
about questioning if there were, since the website s appearance, any changes in the
sense production of the prostitutes simulacrua they were figurativized by the brand in
the same way they were made present in the current journalistic press. Our main
hypothesis is that the presence of Daspu s prostitute figure would have promoted a
change in the social visibility of the prostitutes linked with the brand in journalistic
press. The theoretical references adopted were the postulates of Greimas semiotic
theory. Through them we understand Daspu s prostitutes figures as semantic
configurations that are discursively reiterated in audio-verbal-visual texts in the
institutional brand s website and the journalistic texts that reverberate them. We also
adopt Landowski s notion of simulacrum that defines it as the set of traces (linguistic
or not) pertinent for a signification assignment installed by an addresser in a text, so
it can be apprehended by an addressee. The syntaxic and semantic determinations
held between addresser and addressee contribute to create a prostitute image that
this partners send one another in the communication act. The research corpus
gathers Daspu brand s institutional website, accessible at www.daspu.com.br and a
set of reports extracted from different sections of Folha de S. Paulo s newspaper that
show Daspu s prostitutes simulacra manifestations in the period between January
2005 and December 2010. The selection of such variety of reports aims to offer
subsidies for the investigation of different types of simulacra build over the same
basis of values as the referred website. We therefore infer that the senses produced
are re-enunciated between press and digital medias and not only enunciated from
As determinações sintáxicas
valores daquelas levantadas e analisadas no referido website. Depreendemos assim

monthly magazine targeted to the Brazilian s male audience, Playboy.
Therefore, the project studies the construction of the man s figure in these
ads, crucial to the understanding of the imagery built by the persuasive
speech of advertising in the process of creating a model based on a social
narcissistic culture with a prominent profile in the media. The research s
corpus consists of analyzes of full-page and double-page ads in 24 editions of
Playboy magazine making a methodological
cutout of 2005 and 2009 when
the magazine reached its highest and lowest drawing, respectively, audited by
the Checker Circulation Institute of Brazil. The visual appeal of advertising
campaigns offers the possibility to split announcements, broken down into
thematic groups. The contribution of Christopher Lasch s work emphasizes
the way that advertising presents youth as a salable commodity in the culture
of narcissism. The interpretation of the advertisements language and the
communicative potential of each advertising piece are provided by the
peircean semiotics analysis widely addressed by Lucia Santaella. The
research is contextualized with the ongoing transformation imposed to the
subject as a consumer from the studies of Zygmunt Bauman, bringing hyper
consumption generated by the media, the entertainment industry and
Santaella.
entretenimento e publicidade

Previous issue date: 2015-12-15 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This research investigates how the magazines act in building fashion as the features of appearance in the several and recurrent modes of consumption, and how the announced media visibility has become a part of the individuals identity in Brazil. The main goal is to investigate fashion while an aesthetic making that goes beyond clothing and, hypothetically, would build these ways of life by the appearance. Understanding that the construction of identities implies the construction of alterities, this research also examine how those alterities come out at media discourses, and how are they articulated to build and delineate through fashion the individuals identities. It seizes the fashion in its widest sense, while a fashion from the social and tests the hypothesis that fashion would be a social builder. The corpus consists of an extensive amount of ads, raised in 36 editions of three Brazilian illustrated magazines of the 20th century: Fon-Fon, O Cruzeiro and Manchete, because in them it can be found not only stricto sensu fashion, but also the fashion that goes beyond clothing, and delineate lifestyles. These analyses reach the object of study from 1910 to 1990, composing a representative period of time, when society has been through drastic socio-cultural-historical (trans)formations. For these purposes, we resorted the discursive semiotics of A. J. Greimas and the continuity given by Eric Landowski with socialsemiotics. For understanding fashion as an object of semiotics, are approached some Ana Claudia de Oliveira and Kathia Castilho studies. For a deeper study in the object synchronicity and in the incorporation processes of fashion and its manners, are used the mechanisms of intertextuality and interdiscursive by Norma Discini and José Luiz Fiorin. For the plasticity analysis of media, the studies of Jean-Marie Floch and Ana Claudia de Oliveira. By mapping those ads, five categories of consumption were find and determined as modes of consumption; regarded as individuals modes of presence, were stablished in each category those who show dressed bodies. We concluded that is with and by the ruptures of the ways of dressing up that the fashion or the modes of appearance also disrupt in the various modes of consuming, developing cycles of new practices and (re)constructions of meaning. In this context, the magazines had important roles while forming those consumers of fashion and manners. Thus, the individual develops its taste for appearance, building itself by fashion and its consumption cycles, while a social being for itself and for another individuals / A presente pesquisa investiga como as revistas atuaram na construção da moda enquanto feições da aparência nos vários e recorrentes modos de consumir e, também, como a visibilidade midiática anunciada tornou-se partícipe da construção identitária dos sujeitos no Brasil.
