The translation of cultural references and hyphenated premodifers in a travel guide about the Caribbean

Hiltunen, Nina January 2018 (has links)
This paper studies how cultural references and hyphenated premodifiers in an English travel guide about the Caribbean are translated into Swedish. The aim is to investigate what strategies that are used when translating cultural references, and why; as well as to see which grammatical structures that appear when translating hyphenated premodifiers from English to Swedish. The qualitative analysis focuses on how cultural references and hyphenated premodifiers are translated, the strategies/categories used, and the corresponding result. The quantitative analysis aims at summarizing what strategies or grammatical categories that are most commonly used in overcoming these translation issues. The results show that most hyphenated premodifiers are translated with another grammatical structure, namely through premodifying adjectives, without the use of hyphens. Regarding cultural references, equivalence, transference, and generalization were common strategies to convey the same content and sense to the new target readers, whereas the domesticating method together with communicative translation proved to be the most helpful methods.

Les références culturelles dans les titres d'article de la presse russe contemporaine / Cultural references in articles titles in the contemporary russian press

Chotova, Elena 12 December 2014 (has links)
The subject of our research work is the study of the quotations phenomena that appear in the articles titles of the contemporary russian press. These quotations refer to source texts belonging to different categories of the culture : literary works, political works, songs, movies,... Our research work is based on the analysis of articles published in 25 russian newspapers and magazines, mainly on the period 2002-2004. These newspapers and magazines address a wide public, with prints up to 3 millions. We demonstrate in our work that the quotations that may be found in the article titles are "krylatye slova" (winged words, that is to say usual quotations). This phenomena exist as such in russian and german linguistics but has not been studied until now as a specific phenomena in french linguistics. The usage of winged words, quotations widely known by the general public at a given period of time in a specific country, is a sign of national identification for the speakers, as these quotations refer to cultural knowledge they could acquire only through a common education and exposure to life in the same country. Our work gives an overview of the common cultural references of the contemporary russian people, and proposes a tool, accessible to everybody, to discover these references, actualized at a specific period of time.

Patrimônio imaterial e turismo: a cultura gastronômica do agnolini

Figueiredo, Franciele Bandeira 24 April 2009 (has links)
Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-23T17:44:30Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Franciele B Figueiredo.pdf: 8003638 bytes, checksum: 20b9deddda314af8c1ce51160c2ae80e (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-05-23T17:44:30Z (GMT). / Distance Learning courses as a way of acquiring knowledge have been expanding in the last 15 years, both nationally and globally. At the national level, this increase was noticed after regulations in this teaching modality by the Ministry of Education (MEC), at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. With this increase, a concern arises with the form and quality in which the courses are presented. After the preliminary versions of 1997 and 2003, the Quality Referential in Distance Higher Education was published by MEC in 2007. When talking about quality, develop in the form of measurement, and that naturally remind us of evaluation. On the other hand, within the educational context, evaluation is always a complex process, given that the main concern is in question. In this situation, it was defined that the objective is to evaluate Distance Learning modality based on the student point of view. We applied structured questionnaires, using statistical sampling techniques so that the students could give their opinions about the course. In this questionnaire, we considered discursive questions (open questions) and questions with alternatives (closed questions). In this situation, closed questions can be analyzed quantitatively, using statistical techniques, such as a cluster analysis, however, for an open question, where the data are composed of unstructured texts, it was necessary to look for other methods. A textual analysis was then performed using IRAMUTEQ software. By these two analyses, it was possible to see the convergences between them, being able to see as complementary analytical techniques (approach of mixed methods). For the analyzed course, Specialization in Special Education in the Inclusive Education Perspective of the Rede São Paulo Program of Teacher Training (REDEFOR), the analyzes presented the success of high satisfaction (satisfaction index of more than 90%) and as Qualitative analyzes are able to capture strengths and some deficiencies that can be corrected.

The cognitive development process in learning was discussed, as well as the applicability of methodological procedures related to the present muscular and auditory memory in the mentioned pedagogical proposal. The research methodology was ‘Qualitative’ with methodological procedures of ‘Bibliographic Survey’ and ‘Documentary Analysis’, which enables the identification of relevant information and data, so that relations with the Otakar Ševčík teaching methodology could be established. The bibliographical survey organization and the research relevant documents resulted in a ‘Corpus of texts’ firstly with excerpts of specific music authors which highlight the use of auditory references and finger patterns in violin teaching and learning methodologies; and secondly with pedagogical literature authors that according to the researcher could base the pedagogical practice of Ševčík (1901a): Morin (2007), Penna (2011), Harder (2003), Bourdieu, cited by Sandra Pesavento (1995), Folleto (2010), Gerle (2015), Perdomo Guevara (2005), Swanwick (1994) e Póvoas (2006). The research highlighted the publication importance of Ševčík’s pedagogical works as a factor that since 1881 may have led to a complete violin pedagogy transformation and consequently in it’s teaching and learning. The analysis of the ‘Corpus of texts’ made it possible to identify one (1) category to highlight: ‘Teaching / Learning’. It is concluded that there is an inseparable relationship between violin teaching and learning. The analysis of Otakar Ševčík’s methodological approach to initial learning has pointed to interconnection of cognitive processes in simultaneous complex movement execution in initial learning, and it was possible to identify orderly and determinant methodological procedures that can lead to auditory reference construction and gradual development of differentiated technical skills in the course of violin initial teaching and learning process.

Technical references for the building construction.

Fabiana da Rocha Cleto 29 June 2006 (has links)
The “ technical references” are documents that can be used in different phases of the a building project, with no legal effect as standards or Codes, developed by the agents of the industry, to establish and disseminate best practices for planning, design, execution, use, maintenance and post-use phases, with the aim of to achieve quality and performance of the final product and to consolidate and to broadcast knowledge. Such documents exist in different countries, as the “model codes” or “ codes of practices” and the “ best practice guides” , but this is not the case in Brazil, even though we can find some initiatives in this way. Consequently, the objective of this research is to analyse, discuss and propose technical, methodological and institutional orientations to the implementation of technical referencesfor the building construction sector in Brazil. For this purpose, there is a review of documents such as procurement texts and technical manuals, an analysis of their structures and contents and a deeperexamination of the application of the document used in social housing projects in Sao Paulo. Some foreign documents are also analysed, as well as the technical documents model used in France ('RFXPHQWV_ 7HFKQLTXHV_ 8QLILpV_ __ '78), discussing its adaptation to fit Brazilian reality. The conclusion of this work lies in the analysis, amongst other factors, of the concept of technical reference documents, its context and interfaces, bringing orientation concerning their structure and content, and presenting difficulties and opportunities of developing and using them, as well as showing the need of additional actions, including those of institutional nature, that contribute to their practical and effective use.

Not for Sale : Terminology and cultural references in a text on human trafficking

Björk, Anna January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to analyse what strategies may be the most suitable ones when dealing with problems in the translation of a text on human trafficking. The focus of the study is how to translate terminology related to human trafficking, but also on how to deal with references to culture-specific phenomena. In order to find possible solutions for translation problems in the text, different dictionaries and term banks were used, as well as parallel texts and different translation strategies.           The analysis is based on the translation strategies laid down by Vinay and Darbelnet, Ingo and Newmark. The findings of the study show that a number of different translation strategies had to be applied in order to solve the different translation problems. Regarding the translation of terminology, modulation, equivalence, addition and omission were the most useful strategies, as well as using parallel texts. The strategies found most useful in translating culture-specific phenomena were modulation, equivalence and addition, but componential analysis, transference and established translations were also used. Factors that decided what were the most appropriate strategies to apply in the different instances were the aim of the text, the perspective of the target reader and parallel texts.

L'intertextualité comme source de création littéraire : essai sur le roman arabe contemporain / Intertextuality as the source of literary creation : an essay on the contemporary Arabic novel

Guessoum, Zeineb 16 June 2016 (has links)
In the field of contemporary Arabic literature, the theme of intertextuality as the source of novelistic literary creation possesses a double origin. On the one hand, the study of major contemporary Arabic novelists shows that they make use of prior narratives of essentially epic, historical and religious character, reproducing them in a romantic style and context that is entirely their own, but without departing from the original theme. On the other, intertextuality as the source of literary creation takes for its foundation the role played by memory and knowledge. In order to grasp the way in which these two sources are used and why, we are going to approach the question by analyzing university studies and current literary criticism on the subject, thereby constructing an objective argument. Then we will structure our work in three parts. The first will be entitled: “Quotations and References”, a juxtaposition posing the question of the relationship between the intertextual quotation and the reader. The second part will be entitled: “Allusions and Evocations”. This pair of terms will be concerned with the relationship between intertextuality and memory (both historical and cultural), which is contained in the literature. Finally, the third part will be called: “Resumptions and Reorganisations” – these two terms raising the question of textual resumption and the divergent relationship existing between texts.

Zjištění fyzické pozice počítače v Internetu / Establishing the physical position of a computer in the Internet

Relovský, Josef January 2008 (has links)
This master‘s thesis is formed as a part of the research project for whose analyse is used the worldwide experimental network called PlanetLab. The whole dilemma is engaged by IPTV technology. IPTV is a protocol that makes possible transfer data of a television content over the Internet to the end user. In the IPTV technology the server is a source. These data are presented as a video and audio signal (streem) which are required to deliver to the end users. Some structure, which presents alternate these computers´connection, has been established, because the technology making use of the big pretention is used. The most patent way between the source and the destination is found. My objective is design this structure in the pursuit. The principle of the signal ramification from one node to several nodes (in group) is called multicast. Rather said from one node to the set of nodes. In the IPTV is presented each one single program for one multicast group. The concrete end users (recipients) are members of one or several obtainable multicast groups. The switch between programs demands a change from one multicast group to other group. For an analyse is used the worldwide experimental network called PlanetLab. This network was created after the floatation of three American´s universities in 2002. Nowadays it takes in more than 800 nodes which are distributed over the world. The PlanetLab is used by multinational company such as the Intel or the Hewlett-Packard. It is created for the testing and the scientific scope. I make the scripts in the Linux for the formation of the interconnecting structure. The main item by the course of the unreeling is response time. I investigate it with a command called “ping”. Everything is created in the Linux because all nodes use the operation system Linux in PlanetLab. By the help of the command “ping” I take the active nodes and response times. According to the response time I make a distance vectors which are used for the finding a location in the face of the references points which were determined before. According to the similarity of these vectors is designated to what end point is put to the point.
