This thesis contains a usability evaluation of “Barnplay”, a Swedish video-on-demand service targeted at children. The objective of the study was to identify usability issues in the video service and to develop measures on improving the user interface, with special focus on adaptation to the broad target group of 3-11 year olds. The study was conducted by first mapping established practices in designs of VOD-services targeted at children, followed by interviews and usability tests with children between 2-11 concerning their use of “Barnplay”. Based on the initial data collection, a prototype was developed and then evaluated by usability testing and A/B-testing. The main conclusion of the study is the need of better individual adjustment of the video content selection to better appeal to different age segments within the target group. A design proposal, for a list of personal viewing history, was produced for displaying what the user recently had watched. / Detta examensarbete är en användbarhetsutvärdering av SVTs barnanpassade videotjänst, Barnplay. Arbetets mål är att identifiera användbarhetsproblem i videotjänsten och att ta fram åtgärder för att förbättra användargränssnittet, med särskilt fokus på anpassning till den breda målgruppen 3-11 år. Studien utfördes genom kartläggning av praxis vid design av VOD-tjänster riktade till barn, intervjuer och tester med barn mellan 2-11år kring deras användande av Barnplay. Utifrån den inledande datainsamlingen utarbetades en prototyp som utvärderades med användningstest samt A/B-test. Den viktigaste slutsatsen i studien var behovet av individuell anpassning av utbudet i videotjänsten för att bättre tilltala de olika ålderssegmenten inom målgruppen. Designförslaget som togs fram var en personlig historik-lista som visar de senast “tittade” titlarna.

The Importance of Being Funded : A Case Study of the Public Funding, Production, and Style of Pica Pica (1987)

Given the 2017 discontinuation of the Swedish Film Agreement and the surrounding debate on the rationales of film policy, this thesis will conduct a historical study of a particular instance of Swedish film policy history, thus seeking to contribute to the understanding of the consequences of film policy for the outcome of film. Looking at the relationship between Swedish public broadcasting (SVT) and the Swedish Film Institute (SFI) during the mid-1980’s, this thesis aims to investigate the historical background of the funding and production process that enabled the creation of Pica Pica, a feature documentary film on magpies made by director Mikael Kristersson. By applying Geir Vestheim’s theory of the four instrumental arguments for public support of the arts and through an idea analysis, the thesis will investigate what arguments could be said to be pivotal for the funding and production of Pica Pica. Analyzing policy documents concerning the SFI and SVT, as well as using interviews conducted with the people in decision-making positions at the time, the thesis investigates what rationales and circumstances might be said to have informed the funding and production of Pica Pica. Furthermore, Kristersson’s film will be analyzed in relation to concepts of ecocinema and in relation to its lineage in nature portrayal in Swedish film. Through its investigation of the role of the funding and production circumstances for the stylistic outcome of the film, the thesis seeks to contribute to the understanding of the importance and consequences of film policy and production organization for the outcome of film in current times withal.

The study aimed to investigate how female and male athletes are framed on Sportbladet and SVT Sport’s Instagram pictures. The study also examines and compares Sportbladet and SVT Sport to see if there are any differences between their coverage, since Sportbladet is commercial media and SVT Sport is public service. We have conducted a quantitative content analysis where we analyzed 655 Instagram pictures in total, 280 were from Sportbladet and 375 from SVT Sport. The Instagram pictures that were used were from the months of February, May, August, and November in 2022. The results showed that men dominated Sportbladet, while women and men were equally represented on SVT Sport. Although the results also showed that women and men are framed differently on both Sportbladet and SVT Sport. Women are generally framed as passive, happy, and intimate, while men are active, cocky, and formal. The results also showed that Sportbladet and SVT Sport have different agendas, which could be based on what possibly sells the most. Sportbladet, which is a commercial, posts more Instagram pictures of sportsmen. Simultaneously, SVT Sport posts an equal number of pictures of both genders.

La thèse analyse l'implémentation des nouveaux programmes d'EPS et de SVT au Bénin dans le cadre de la réforme curriculaire selon l'approche par les compétences. Cette question est envisagée selon une approche comparative en termes de transposition didactique. Trois études emboitées structurent le travail empirique. La première caractérise les nouvelles matrices disciplinaires en EPS et en SVT à partir d'une analyse de contenus des documents officiels. La seconde s'intéresse aux points de vue des acteurs impliqués dans cette réforme depuis dix ans (inspecteurs, conseillers pédagogiques, enseignants). La troisième rend-compte, sous couvert de la théorie de l'action conjointe en didactique, des pratiques d'enseignement de 6 enseignants (3 en EPS : basket-ball et 3 en SVT : relations d'exploitation interspécifiques). Les résultats mettent en évidence les contraintes qui pèsent sur la mise en œuvre de ces nouveaux programmes.

Från bildsatt radio till katastroffilm : SVT:s bildsättning av katastrofer före och efter avskaffandet av TV-monopolet

SVT arbetar inom public service-sfären och försöker efterfölja ett sändningstillstånd där objektivitet förespråkas. Under en längre period hade SVT monopol på TV-sändningar, men 1987 hävdes monopolet och konkurrerande nyhetsmedier gjorde entré på marknaden. Tidigare forskning visar att uppkomsten av konkurrerande nyhetsmedier på marknaden har förändrat sättet att producera nyhetsinslag. Nyhetsmediernas nyhetsinslag har gått mot en mer kommersiell utformning där syftet är att locka till sig tittare. SVT har följt denna trend trots att deras sändningstillstånd förespråkar neutralitet gentemot andra maktsfärer i samhället. Vad som inte framgått av tidigare forskning är om och hur bildsättningen i nyhetsinslagen förhåller sig till objektivitet kontra kommersialism efter avskaffandet av TV-monopolet. Då SVT behållit sitt sändningstillstånd kan det antas att de fortfarande anser sig vara objektiva i sitt bildberättande, men frågan är då om deras syn på objektivt bildberättande har förändrats? För att svara på detta genomfördes en kvalitativ bildanalys av åtta nyhetsinslag med temat katastrofrapportering. Fyra inslag som rapporterar om Tjernobylkatastrofen 1986 ställs mot fyra inslag om flodvågskatastrofen i Asien 2004. Den första katastrofen ägde rum före TVmonopolets avskaffande, och den andra efter. Bildberättandet i rapporteringen av katastroferna jämfördes sedan, för att fastslå om den senare katastrofen gestaltats mer kommersiellt än den tidigare. Uppsatsen diskuterar om och hur synen på objektivitet har förändrats hos SVT, och att objektivitet kan komma att fortsätta förändras mot ett mer kommersiellt håll. Studiens slutsats visar att bildberättandet i nyhetsinslagen över Tjernobylolyckan förhöll sig mer till objektivitet, medan nyhetsinslagen över flodvågskatastrofen i Asien lutade mot ett mer kommersiellt bildberättande. Mellan 1980-talets senare hälft och 2000-talets början hade klippbildernas roll förändrats. Den visuella information som tillsammans med reporterrösten till en början utgjorde vad som kan liknas vid bildsatt radio, hade under den senare perioden övergått i en katastroffilm, som underhöll publiken på ett sätt som liknar de kommersiella nyhetsinslagens utformning.

The first one characterizes from a content analysis of official documents the new disciplinary matrix of the physical education curriculum and the biology curriculum. The second study concerns the discourses held by different actors (supervisors, mentors, and teachers) on the curriculum reform which began ten years ago. The last one is about the teaching practices of 6 teachers (3 in PE teaching basket-ball; 3 in Biology teaching predation and parasitism as inter species relations). The findings highlight the constraints that weight on the ways these new curricula are implemented in classroom.

In the tv-series Allt för Sverige ten American participants travel around Sweden, learning about the country’s costums and culture, while competing to win the grand prize – a meet-and-greet with their long-lost Swedish relatives. Allt för Sverige is one of many tv-shows that discuss nationality and Swedish culture in a Swedish television context, and figures as an example for this discourse analysis. The analysis mainly focuses on the description of Sweden and what’s described as Swedish and nonSwedish. I’ve also distinguish themes in the portrayal of Sweden and Swedes. The theoretical framework for the analysis is discourse analysis, and focus on how the tv-show Allt för Sverige reproduce and defines nationalism and stereotypes. The study shows that Allt för Sverige promotes Sweden as a beautiful country, with a special national identity and a set of unique and strong national symbols, of which remembers the viewer of their identity and homeland. Although, Allt för Sverige sometimes presents a common bond between Swedes and the contestants, they often separate the two - presenting them as polar opposites ,and point out that the Americans never can live up to the norm and be “typical Swedish”.

En première partie, cette thèse présente différentes significations des termes nature et environnement, en arabe et en français. Par exemple, en arabe, il existe trois termes pour désigner le mot français "environnement". Elle identifie, dans le cadre du modèle KVP qui analyse les conceptions comme des interactions entre connaissances, valeurs et pratiques sociales, plusieurs valeurs qui sous-tendent ces définitions. Plusieurs d'entre elles sont reprises comme des objectifs de l'éducation à l'environnement : citoyenneté, autonomie, responsabilité, altruisme et solidarité (CARTAS). L'essentiel de cette thèse analyse ensuite les conceptions, et plus particulièrement les systèmes de valeurs, sur la nature et l'environnement chez des enseignants tunisiens (111 enseignants de Sciences de la Vie et de la Terre : SVT et 42 enseignants d'Histoire et Géographie : HG), chez 273 élèves de 2ème année secondaire (16-17 ans) et dans les manuels scolaires tunisiens SVT de ce niveau scolaire, édités en 2003 et 2005. Les différentes analyses effectuées (khi2, analyse des correspondances multiples et analyse en composantes principales) montrent que les élèves sont plus anthropocentrés que les enseignants SVT et HG, qui sont plutôt écolocentrés, sans différence significative entre enseignants SVT et HG. Ces systèmes de valeurs sont corrélés à certaines variables personnelles : les non bacheliers, les jeunes et les individus ayant une enfance campagnarde sont plus anthropocentrés que, respectivement, les titulaires d'un baccalauréat ou plus, les adultes et ceux ayant une enfance citadine, qui sont plus écolocentrés. Les conceptions des élèves sont dans l'ensemble conformes à celles présentes dans les manuels SVT : nature sans homme, rapport utilitaire à la nature, absence de gestion et de prévention des risques liés à l'utilisation des ressources, ce qui ne favorise pas l'acquisition des valeurs CARTAS. Les enjeux et perspectives de ces résultats sont discutés.

Our study shows if and how Swedish public service television has changed its content from the time when SVT had monopoly until this day when the competition is greater than ever. We got an insight in what has been presented to the audience by studying TV schedules from 1975 to 2009. The study examines four weeks during the years when the two main channels SVT1 and SVT2 have been broadcasting. One week each of these following years have been examined: 1975, 1985, 1995 and 2009. These years have been chosen to get an insight in what content the TV schedules presented before and after SVT got competition in the Swedish TV market. A total of 28 days and 56 TV schedules have been examined. This was done with a quantitative analysis and with an own model of ten categories that has helped us to sort the TV shows based on their content. Even though it was not a great difference, the result shows that the percentage of news has decreased since 1975. But it was not possible to see if the TV shows that replaced the news in the TV schedule was of an entertaining kind. The study also shows that a new kind of TV shows have taken a large spot in the schedules. Nowadays it is common that a TV show mix different kind of categories during its broadcasting time. One example is Gomorron Sverige. Furthermore we have seen that live debates take a large place in the TV schedules in 2009, especially during the day time. Besides that, the sizes of the categories have been pretty even during the 34 years. SVT has not made any significant changes since the monopoly was broken and the competition became a reality. We have also noticed that the broadcasting time has increased a lot since 1975. It is particularly obvious in the day time where there many years ago were no broadcasting at all. Our main purpose with the study was to examine if there is less news today in favour of TV shows of a more entertaining kind.
