The Effectiveness of Therpay for Drug Addicts and Their Integration within Society The purpose of my thesis "The Effectiveness of Therapy for Drug Addicts and Their Integration in Society" is to elucidate the lifestyles of addicts during different stages of therapy and to help people to understand the problems of drug addicts. The function of the brain can be altered by a number of psycho-active drugs that can influence a person's behavior, conscience, morals and mood. Drug addiction results in an uncontrollable urge to acquire drugs, regardless of the consequences. This behavior leads to a gradual exclusion of the drug addict from society. Re-integration into society must be the goal of treatment. The social exclusion of addicts seriously hampers their attemts to find employment. Many addicts started to use illicit drugs before the age of 18 years. Their education has not been completed and their bonds with their family members have been broken. Health problems caused by drugs, alcohol, a low quality nourishment, often untreated infections, poor hygiene, poor or absent living arrangements are factors that contribute to the exclusion of drug addicts from society. The abstinence from drugs, for longer than three months, creates a precondition for recovery and re-integration into society. However, in the absence of a postive change in attitude of the addict towards society and in the abscence of a social safety net, drug abstinence alone does not represent a reliably positive prognostic indicator. Complex social services that include protected housing, employment, job counselling, out-patient or in-patient psychotherapy, are necessary for successful treatment.

The Relationships Among Organizational Communication Structures and Learning Outcomes in College Level Basic Communication Courses

Based on linear models, this study demonstrated that the psychological and social structures of the classroom, viewed as a naturalistic human system, impact learning outcomes. To operationalize learning outcomes, final grades in the course and a subject self report scale tapping perceptions of utility of material taught were used. The social and psychological structures of the classroom-as-a-human-system were operationalized through the following variables: the degree of social integration of each student, based on network analytic procedures; communication apprehension of students; dimensions of perceived credibility of instructors; dimensions of interpersonal attraction to instructors; perceived satisfaction with task demands of the course; and adjusted orientation to communication, based on communication apprehension scores and network data. Data were obtained from five sections of a multi-section communication course of a large state institution of higher learning in the southwestern region of the United States. Differences in sex were not found.

Projeto UCA em Sergipe : análise da inclusão sociodigital e da formação continuada em serviço dos professores em uma escola da rede pública

The present study is aimed at analyzing the process of inclusion sociodigital through distribution equipment, from one perspective, ongoing education, provided by one of the projects articulated by public policies directed to Information Technologies in the educational environment. This is a case study in a school of public schools covered by the project One Laptop per Child. In this sense, the objective of this research is to analyze the contributions of ongoing education offered by UCA design for the pedagogical practices of teachers. The specific research objectives are: to analyze and describe the pedagogical practice of teachers in in-service training within the UCA; analyzing tools and methodologies adopted by teachers in their practice, after the implementation of the UCA design and verify |if| and |how| occurred / teaching process in the light of the guidelines of UCA Project occurs. Data analysis revealed the experiences of teachers linked the practice to the laptop as well as the relationship of theory and practice obtained by the process of ongoing education, allowing to know how was the process of inclusion sociodigital. We conclude that involve interesting projects implemented in school to a proposed intervention that maps to the constant review process, which teachers are protagonists, signaling the priority needs in relation to the school context in which they are inserted, which, without doubt provide the best targeting of new teaching practices. / O presente estudo está voltado à análise do processo de inclusão sociodigital por meio da distribuição de equipamentos, sob uma perspectiva de formação continuada em serviço, proporcionada por um dos projetos articulados pelas políticas públicas direcionadas às Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação no meio educacional. Trata-se de um Estudo de Caso em uma das escolas da rede pública estadual contempladas pelo projeto Um Computador por Aluno. Nesse sentido, o objetivo geral desta pesquisa é analisar as contribuições da formação continuada em serviço oferecida pelo Projeto UCA para as práticas pedagógicas dos professores. Os objetivos específicos da pesquisa são: analisar e descrever as prática pedagógicas dos professores em formação em serviço no âmbito do UCA; analisar instrumentos e metodologias adotados pelos professores em sua prática pedagógica, após a implementação do Projeto UCA e verificar se e como ocorreu/ocorre o processo de ensino à luz das diretrizes do Projeto UCA. As análises dos dados revelaram as experiências dos professores atreladas à prática com o laptop, bem como a relação da teoria e da prática obtidos pelo processo da formação continuada em serviço, permitindo conhecer como se deu o processo de inclusão sociodigital entre os envolvidos. Conclui-se que é necessário associar os projetos implementados na escola a uma proposta de intervenção direcionada a um processo de avaliação constante no qual os professores sejam os protagonistas, sinalizando as necessidades prioritárias de acordo com o contexto escolar no qual estão inseridos, o que, sem dúvida, proporcionaria um melhor direcionamento em suas práticas pedagógicas futuras.

A vinculação dessas duas teorias no início da década de 1970 orienta-se pela colocação de duas outras importantes teorias: a teoria da ação comunicativa e a teoria da modernidade. Num primeiro momento, explora-se a construção da teoria da sociedade verificando-se como Habermas reformula os pressupostos da teoria crítica, inscritos numa base evolucionária com pretensões emancipatórias. Num segundo momento, discute-se a estruturação da teoria da evolução social nos textos da década de 1970, principalmente em Para a Reconstrução do Materialismo Histórico, enfatizando-se o problema da homologia entre ontogênese e filogênese e as tentativas de Habermas em equacionar indivíduo e sociedade por intermédio de três caminhos: a formação da identidade pós-convencional, a dimensão prático-moral e a capacidade de aprendizagem. Num terceiro momento, destaca-se a capacidade de aprendizagem como caminho que mantém aberta a possibilidade da relação ontofilogenética e única alternativa de que Habermas dispõe para manter em pé a sua teoria da evolução social na Teoria da Ação Comunicativa. Habermas in Legitimationsprobleme im Spätkapitalismus analyses that the theory of social change should serve as a basis for the formulation of a society theory. The linkage of these two theories at the beginning of the 1970 guides for the placement of two other important theories: the theory of communicative action and the theory of modernity. In a first time explores the construction of the theory of society as checking Habermas recasts the assumptions of the Critical Theory, entered an evolutionary basis with emancipator claims. In a second time discusses the structure of the theory of social change in the texts of the decade of 1970, mainly for the Reconstruction of Historic Materialism, highlighting the problem of homology between ontogeny and philogenesis and attempts to equate Habermas in individual and society through of three paths: the formation of the post-conventional identity, the extent practical-moral and capacity to learn. In a third time, there is a capacity for learning as the only way that keeps open the possibility of the relationship ontofhilogenesis and only alternative that Habermas has standing to maintain his theory of social change in the Theory of Communicative Action. Intending to preserve de brazillian savanna the government of Goiás implemented the Sustainable Cerrado Project in partnership with the World Bank aiming to follow the directives presented by the "Iniciativa Cerrado Sustentável" from the Ministry of Environment. The goal of this study is to examine the results of the project in Goiás, noting its flaws in period by that in place, 2010-2014, and to effect a motion of intervention that might bear the realization of its objectives not processed in original project. The project and the motion of intervention were examined by means of documental and bibliographic research aiming for the continuity of the project in order to atend the goals regarding the sustainability of the brazillian savanna and the valorization of the traditional populations in this process. It was observed that the project failed to accomplish its goals according to flaws related to conflicting bureaucratic processes between the World Bank and the government of Goiás, lack of autonomy of the Secretariat of Environment and, mostly, the lack of goals regarding the local population, wich wasn't contemplated. Its known that the people can't be untied from the Bioma and, acknowledging that the motion is put in place with goals to prioritize the preservation of the brazillian savanna, the well being of its people, the creation of jobs and income, poverty reduction and social integration, that perforce to add for security of Project success and sustainability. / A descentralização prevista pela Constituição Federal de 1988, em cumprimento às demandas da população, atinge as políticas setoriais de meio ambiente proporcionando atuação mais localizada com foco na eficiência da administração pública e atendimento de necessidades das populações tradicionais. Com vistas à preservação do cerrado, o estado de Goiás implementou o Projeto Cerrado Sustentável, em parceria com o Banco Mundial, visando seguir as diretrizes apresentadas pela Iniciativa Cerrado Sustentável do Ministério do Meio Ambiente. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar os resultados do Projeto em Goiás, observando suas falhas dentro do período em que esteve em funcionamento, 2010-2014, e realizar uma proposta de intervenção que leve à efetivação de seus objetivos não atendidos no projeto original. Para tanto, foi realizado estudo de caso do projeto por meio de pesquisa documental e bibliográfica e proposta de intervenção visando à continuidade do projeto para atendimento de metas relativas à sustentabilidade do cerrado e a valorização das populações tradicionais nesse processo. Foi observado que o projeto não cumpriu seus objetivos em função de falhas relativas aos processos burocráticos divergentes entre o Banco Mundial e o estado de Goiás, baixa autonomia da Secretaria de Meio Ambiente e, principalmente, a não aplicação de metas voltadas à população inserida no local, a qual não foi contemplada. A população não pode ser desvinculada do Bioma e, a partir dessa constatação é feita a proposta, com metas que priorizam a preservação do cerrado, o bem-estar da população, geração de emprego e renda, redução da pobreza e inclusão social; o que, necessariamente, contribui para a garantia da sustentabilidade e sucesso do projeto.

The migratory route to Brazil has increased after the natural disaster of January 10th 2010, when Haiti was struck by a level 7 earthquake in the Richter scale. According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Labour and Employment, around 30,000 Haitians have immigrated to the country. Cities such as Manaus/AM, Tabatinga/AM, São Paulo/SP, Curitiba (PR), and Cascavel/PR are some of the destinies chosen by these migrants, accounting that 3,000 Haitians currently live in the latter. The main objective of the present research is to investigate the Haitian migratory activity to Brazil, specifically in the city of Cascavel, state of Paraná, from the year 2010, analyzing their integration in the local workforce, as well as to understand the migrants' perspective on the conditions of such integration. In order to achieve these goals, the methods of bibliographical review and exploratory research were employed. Data collection was achieved through qualitative field research, using participant observation and oral telling. / Les catastrophes naturelles et les problèmes politiques économiques sont servis pour stimuler la migration d’ une partie expressive de la population haïtienne vers d’autres pays. Le flux migratoire vers le Brésil s’est acentué après la catastrophe naturelle du 12 janvier 2010, date à laquelle Haïti a été secoué par un tremblement de terre de 7,0 degrés sur l’échelle de Richter. Selon les données du Ministère du Travail et Éducation du Brésil, environ 30.000 haïtiens sont entrés dans le pays, étant que villes comme Manaus/AM, Tabatinga/AM, São Paulo/SP, Curitiba/PR et Cascavel/PR, ont étés quelques-unes des destinations choisies par les migrants, et que seulement dans cette dernière commune vivent environ 3.000 haïtiens. L’objectif central de la recherche est discuter le phénomène de la migration haïtienne vers le Brésil, en particulier dans la ville de Cascavel/Paraná à partir de l’ année 2010, analysant l’insertion de ces migrants dans le marché du travail local, ainsi que comprendre la perception de ces migrants sur leurs conditions d’insertion. Pour atteindre ces objectifs nous utilisons comme méthodes la révision bibliographique et la recherche exploratoire. La collection d’informations a été réalisée grâce à la recherche qualitative sur le terrain, avec l’utilisation de l’observation participante et de l’histoire orale. / As catástrofes naturais e os problemas políticos econômicos têm servido de estímulo para migração de uma expressiva parcela da população haitiana para outros países. O fluxo migratório para o Brasil se acentuou após a catástrofe natural de 12 de Janeiro de 2010, data em que o Haiti foi abalado por um terremoto de 7,0 graus na escala Richter. Segundo dados do Ministério do Trabalho e Educação do Brasil, cerca de 30.000 haitianos ingressaram no país, sendo que cidades como Manaus/AM, Tabatinga/AM, São Paulo/SP, Curitiba/PR e Cascavel/PR, foram alguns dos destinos escolhidos pelos migrantes, somente neste último município vivem aproximadamente 3 mil haitianos. O objetivo central da pesquisa é discutir o fenômeno da migração haitiana para o Brasil, especificamente na cidade de Cascavel/Paraná a partir do ano de 2010, analisando a inserção destes migrantes no mercado de trabalho local, bem como compreender a percepção destes migrantes sobre suas condições de inserção. Para atingir estes objetivos utilizamos como métodos a revisão bibliográfica e a pesquisa exploratória. A coleta de informações foi realizada por meio de pesquisa de campo qualitativa, com o uso da observação participante e da história oral.

A demografia, como campo por excelência dos estudos da população, contribui nesse debate não somente através do reconhecimento das unidades espaciais, dos períodos e dos segmentos da população particularmente afetados por esse tipo específico de violência. Partindo das concepções teóricas que associaram - em décadas passadas - o processo de transição da estrutura etária ao agravo nas condições de ocupação laboral e às tendências de elevação das taxas de homicídio para a população juvenil masculina, procura-se avaliar se o momento atual da dinâmica sócio-demográfica poderia ainda hoje estar potencializando contextos propícios à disseminação de formas não convencionais de inserção socioeconômica, o que inclui a integração de homens jovens na criminalidade urbana violenta. A diversidade de fatores reconhecidos no debate atual sobre a expansão da criminalidade e da violência juvenil homicida no Brasil sugeriu uma análise multiescalar através da qual a população juvenil masculina e os sub-espaços urbanos relativamente desassistidos pelo poder público estariam servindo como recursos úteis à expansão de economias transnacionais do ilícito. Dentro dessa perspectiva vislumbra-se a disseminação da violência letal entre homens jovens em Brasília (DF)/Entorno de Brasília (GO) como manifestação essencialmente ligada à disseminação de oportunidades de reprodução social e econômica através da integração à circuitos transnacionais do crime, visto que a elevação recente (2000/2010) das taxas de homicídio juvenil masculino não corresponde aos períodos caracterizados pelo crescimento proporcional e absoluto da população jovem e nem mesmo pelo agravo nas condições de ocupação laboral formal e remunerada. Com o intuito de melhor vislumbrar a relevância dos aspectos sócio-demográficos nesse processo, utiliza-se uma contraposição entre as dinâmicas recentemente observadas em Brasília/Entorno de Brasília e em Parecis/Alto Teles Pires (MT), sub-região mato-grossense marcada pelo crescimento absoluto e proporcional da população de homens jovens, onde o homicídio juvenil masculino não aparece como tendência contemporânea predominante / Abstract: For decades the male juvenile homicide has been envisioned as a booming phenomenon in Brazil. The demography, as a field of study par excellence of the population, contributes to this debate not only through recognition of spatial units, periods and segments of the population particularly affected by this particular type of violence. Based on the theoretical concepts associated with that - in past decades - the transition in age structure to the offense in terms of occupation and employment trends of rising homicide rates for young male population, attempts to assess whether the current time dynamics socio-demographic could still be leveraging contexts conducive to the spread of unconventional ways of socioeconomic status, which includes the integration of young men in violent urban crime. A variety of factors recognized in the current debate over the expansion of crime and youth violence homicide in Brazil suggested a multiscale analysis whereby the male youth population and sub-urban areas relatively underserved by the government would serve as useful resources for expansion transnational illicit economies. Within this perspective glimpses the spread of lethal violence among young men in Brasília (DF)/Entorno de Brasília (GO) as a manifestation essentially linked to the spread of opportunities for social and economic reproduction through integrating the circuits transnational crime, since the recent high (2000/2010) of male juvenile homicide rates does not correspond to periods characterized by absolute and proportional growth of the youth population and even by worsening conditions in formal employment and gainful occupation. In order to better discern the relevance of socio-demographic aspects in this process uses up a contrast between the dynamics recently observed in Brasilia/Entorno de Brasilia and Parecis/Alto Teles Pires (MT), sub-region of Mato Grosso marked by the absolute and proportional growth of the young men population, where the male juvenile homicide does not appear as an dominant contemporary trend / Doutorado / Demografia / Doutor em Demografia

A pesquisa investigou os educandos que frequentavam o curso superior e que, ao mesmo tempo, continuavam a frequentar o PEIS. Para isso, recorremos à Metodologia da História Oral, método qualitativo fundamentado nos testemunhos dos educandos envolvidos, pois essa metodologia tem como lema "dar vozes aos atores sociais envolvidos na investigação". A dissertação concentra-se em dois eixos de reflexão: o primeiro objetiva compreender o passado recente, a manutenção da longevidade do Projeto e seu papel sócio-político e pedagógico; e o segundo eixo refere-se à pesquisa, ao procurarmos compreender as origens (regionais, sociais, educacionais), a trajetória educacional dos educandos do PEIS e as contribuições das práticas pedagógicas do Projeto em suas vidas e atividades profissionais. Através da Metodologia da História Oral, este trabalho conseguiu descrever a trajetória educacional dos educandos que retornaram ao PEIS mesmo após alcançarem o ensino superior, relacionando as suas falas com as práticas pedagógicas do Projeto. / Abstract: This work presents a reconstruction of students' trajectory of Educational Project for Social Integration - PEIS. The research investigated the students were enrolled in a university course and continued to attend the PEIS. To this end, we chose Oral History Methodology, a qualitative method based on testimonies of the students involved. This methodology has as a motto: "giving voice to the social actors involved in research". This work focuses on two axes of reflection: first, the compression of the recent past, the maintenance and the role socio-political and educational of the Educational Project for Social Integration. Second, the research to understand the origins (regional, social, educational), the educational trajectory of the PEIS students and the contributions of the teaching practices in their lives and professional activities. Integration and Muslim identities in settlement : a comparative study of Germany, The Netherlands and Switzerland

I adopt an interpretive methodology through which I investigate the becoming of Muslim identities in three national integration discourses. I analyse the meanings of integration in abstract, in context and through texts across contexts, and working within a broadly critical constructivist approach, I seek to show how integration discourses have an underlying security complex which explains how they come to be framed with Muslims in mind. To analyse integration I outline a new generic concept of settlement which I refer to as habilitation and which means enabling or endowing with ability or fitness. I then argue for an analytical separation of habilitative strategies, models and approaches, and thus remove integration from its generic descriptive status to one of strategy, model or approach. This I argue is justified in the discursive distinctions made in every-day language and meaning. I then investigate three broad habilitative models: multiculturalism, integration and assimilation. My primary data has been gathered in interviews with individuals acting as representatives of Muslim communities - Imams, organisation leaders, political activists and factory workers – corporate and societal actors such as Trade Unionists, Church representatives and state elites – policy advisers and integration officers. Muslim interviewees emphasised widespread use of distortion and mis-identification. I have defined such distortions as synecdoche. This is a two way process in which the individual is held responsible for the whole and in reverse direction, the whole being held responsible for individual action. The power of synecdoche to compress or expand Muslim identities is distortive and serves to reinforce the alterity of Muslims. In addition I identify another layer of othering which I call ulteriorisation. This involves placing identities under suspicion and is accomplished through a range of aspersive renderings – ambiguous loyalties, secularity, enclaving, underclass formation, and anti-integrationism. Ulteriorisation is understood to feed into broader securitisation of communities, society and polity. In conclusion I look at possible research directions and finish by emphasising that the integrity of Integration will be judged by the willingness of parties to negotiate and the quality of voluntarism and solidarity these processes produce.
