The research includes how to articulate the meanings of Femininities and espacialidades in the memories of the young egressas from School of Guards Guards 'Tenente Antônio João', in the city of Ponta Grossa, Paraná. This institution was created in the 1960s by Mr Epaminondas Xavier de Barros, with the purpose to enable the social acensão of boys, with the support of various people and organizations in society. The school has incorporated into its organization elements of the Spiritism Kardecist, militarism and of freemasonry, which arose among employees for the foundation and maintenance of same. Ideas and ideals that come from these groups, are part of the composition of the methodological apparatus, which advocates the study, work and progress as a trinomial base for training and socialising in the company of people assisted. This idea acendente linear, by espacialidades the institution connects the moral formation, based on the trinomial discipline, hierarchy and evangelization Crest and by elements connected to the ideal of liberty, equality and fraternity. In the course of history in this space, several changes have been to maintain and expand the character of support for children and adolescents in situation of social vulnerability, among them is the inclusion of girls as learners, eleven years after its creation. The espacialidades of this institution in its operation as contraturno, revealed at the beginning of this century, girls occupy the command of the hierarchy militarised organizational learners. Thus, these espacialidades created for boys, enable the constitution of femininities specific, established by rules of control that if met with performances consistent with the corps mirim, allow occupy the central place in power relations that constitute this space. It is presented by the memories stored in the memories of the young egressas as space complex, performing and paradoxical, an environment open to the establishment of multiple femininities, where emotion takes care of resignification conflitando, past, present and future of these young guards.

[en] The objective of this thesis is to interpret and explain the multiplicity of male homosexual spatialities produced in a society still dominated by a heteronormative discourse and exemplified in the films Brokeback Mountain, Praia do Futuro and Moonlight. Currently, issues about sexual and gender identities are gaining greater prominence in different areas of knowledge. In this thesis, we bring such questions to geography, as we believe that sexual and gender plurality needs to be seen and understood from subjects with multiple trajectories and particularities that intersect, connect and disconnect, thus producing multiple geographies, multiple spatialities. When referring to male homosexuals, we realize that, due to the homophobia that lasts for centuries in society, many of them produce spatialities that deviate from the hegemonic heteronormativity, such as those observed in the films Brokeback Mountain, Praia do Futuro and Moonlight. We emphasize the production of male homosexual spatialities as a moment inserted in a movement of construction of spatialities in which inequalities are eliminated and the right to difference is guaranteed.

This dissertation is based on the following question: How are the identities of the boys that constitute the spatiality of the Marcos Fernandes Pinheiro Therapeutic Community in Ponta Grossa - PR elaborated from the experience of chemical dependency treatment? In order to respond to the present questioning, eight interviews were performed with the boys under treatment in the Marcos Fernandes Pinheiro Therapeutic Community in the city of Ponta Grossa, PR, in the period of April and May of 2016. For the systematization and analysis of the data resultant from the interviews, the methodology used is based on Bardin (1977), with the Discourse Content Analysis proposal. From this analysis, we highlight the semantic axis signified by discursive spatiality related to the temporalities which the boys refer to in their reports of experiences that, notwithstanding, are singular and specific to each one. The use of psychoactive substances (PAS) is related to the intensification of the condition of social and spatial marginalization of the boys who collaborate with this research as subjects researched, as well as a practice of resistance to this marginalization. The chemical dependency treatment thus becomes a fundamental element in the change of this dynamic, in order to relate directly to the identity development of the boys, that is to say, to their spatial experiences that occur daily. Therefore, this work establishes a link between the empirical, through the reports of the boys in treatment, and Geographic Science, in the sense of exploring the intangible, the invisible and the ephemeral, as proposed by Nogué and Roméro (2006).

Who Would Want to Teach There? A Critical Exploration of How New Teachers Conceptualize Geographies of Schooling about Canadian "Inner City" Schools and Implications for Education Policy

Jack-Davies, Anita 12 July 2011 (has links)
This dissertation examines geographies of schooling in relation to how a group of new teachers in Canada conceptualize “inner city” schooling as a uniquely Canadian construct. The study uses a critical approach that explores issues of race, and their intersections with issues of gender, social class, and other identity markers. Seven new teachers graduating from a 2009-2010 teacher education program in the province of Ontario, Canada took part in this study. As a function of the inner city, the inner city school is problematized as a particular geographical space, complete with its own meanings. Results of this study indicate that new teacher conceptualizations of Canadian inner city schools are not uniform and coherent, but complex, contradictory, and dependent upon each individual teacher’s experiences with difference. Overall, participants demonstrated limited ability to speak to their own racial identities in relation to teaching in such schooling contexts. Because most participants learned to teach in predominantly White field-placement settings, they perceived race to be a non-issue and recognized it as a construct only if raced bodies were present. With respect to issues of gender, participants most often discussed what is often referred to as the feminization of teaching in elementary schools. However, there was a profound sense in which inner city schools were conceptualized as “male space” or as space from which female teachers needed protection. This was informed by a widespread conception that male teachers could more effectively manage inner city students. Classroom management emerged as an issue that concerned participants with the least experience with difference. Finally, there was a direct relationship between the theoretical approaches used by the teacher education program in discussing inner city schooling and individual teacher ability to articulate their pedagogical approaches to teaching in this milieu. / Thesis (Ph.D, Education) -- Queen's University, 2011-07-11 20:54:49.407

No. of bitstreams: 1 LucasTeixeira.pdf: 4466723 bytes, checksum: 71426468b94a8b8051af8b836b3de36f (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-03-17 / The theme of this academic research is the Cafés, as communicational environments of sociability and consumption of memories and experiences. Its theoretical object is the consumption of memories and experiences, spatialities and temporalities of Cafés in the city of São Paulo, while the empirical objects are Café Girondino and Coffee Lab, which allow us to observe a variety of cultural scenes involving the universe of coffee. The general objective of this study is to examine the phenomenon of cultural scenes in the city of São Paulo, originated from the consumption of memories and experiences in communicational spaces and sociability, as observed at the Cafés mentioned above. One of its specific objectives is to analyze to what extend Café Girondino, nowadays, operates as a space organized by communicative strategies, enabling to revisiting memories and histories that took place at the beginning of modernity in the city of São Paulo, mainly at the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the following century. In addition to that, to identify how Coffee Lab disseminates the culture of specialty coffees, counting on a pedagogy of consumption, and becomes an obligatory destination for coffee lovers. Furthermore, we aim to problematize similarities and differences involving these cultural scenes including here the consumption of memories and experiences in these two Cafés. The guiding issue is to understand how these cultural scenes rise and structure with the consumption of memories and experiences in these iconic Cafés in the city of São Paulo. The corpus of this study includes the physical spaces of both Cafés, their objects, interviews and courses. For a deeper investigation into these communicational environments, we employed the flânerie methodology, as proposed by McLaren (2000), grounded on bibliographical and documentary researches. Among the theoretical references, authors as Will Straw, Norval Baitello, Mary Douglas and Baron Isherwood, Walter Benjamin, Iúri Lótman, Maurice Halbwachs, Pierre Nora, Mike Featherstone, Mônica Nunes, Cláudia Pereira, Vander Casaqui, Ana Luiza Martins and Nicolau Sevcenko, not to mention other thinkers that have contributed to our discussions. The results show there is a media strategy in these spaces, and the symbolic meaning that brings reasoning and value to consumptions is the fruit of sociabilities that go beyond market studies, characterizing these cultural scenes as a symptomatic phenomenon.

Variation och kontrast i en ”naturlig” miljö : En studie om åldersinkluderande utomhusmiljö för förskolebarn i åldrarna ett till sex år / Variety and contrast in a "natural" environment : A study of an age inclusive outdoor environment for preschool children aged one to six years

Norrlander, Moa January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how the spatial design of the preschool outdoor environment has the potential to promote inclusivity of children aged one to six years, when utilised in conjunction with different types of play and educational activities. The study is located in Mullvadens preschool in Stockholm. This is a qualitative study were observation, interview, survey and literature studies have been conducted. The results have highlighted three key thematic areas; age adjustment, spatiality and educational work. The design process has these themes, "boiled down” to the theme of the design proposal; variety and contrast. The empirical data and theory underpin the design proposal and have been conducted to determine current conditions, problems and visions. The results of this study show that there is potential to, by utilisation of spatial elements, change the climate of inclusion. It is argued that this can be achieved by both the addition of materials and the removal of items, with the aim of changing the flow of motion and structure in the space. Natural environment is emphasised throughout as positive in the development of children, posing a major challenge in an urban environment. The design proposal aims, however, to make this challenge central and to provide Mullvadens preschool with a diversified yard which includes the "natural" environment. By using natural elements and materials an environment is proposed which not only links to nature but is, itself, more natural in that it is alive and modifiable.

Os territórios dos Maracatus do povoado Brejão - Brejo Grande/SE

Oliveira, Edivaldo Alves de 15 May 2017 (has links)
This work had the purpose of analyzing, in the context of Cultural Geography, the territories of the Maracatus that manifest themselves in Brejão village, belonging to the municipality of Brejo Grande and located near the mouth of the São Francisco River in Sergipe. As cultural and symbolic manifestations we tried to analyze which elements contribute to the construction and formation of merrymakings in the village. For comprehension and analysis of the popular manifestations under study, the categories space and territory were adopted for the apprehension of territorialities and, methodologically, the qualitative approach, developed by a set of procedures: documentary research in academic texts, reports, websites and censuses; interviews with the Maracatu players and with the population; workshop with students from 10 to 29 years old of the village State School, and participant research with the Maracatu Nação Puerto Rico (MNPR) in Recife city before and after the carnival of 2016. To understand the origins of the Maracatus, we used historical texts on the African Diaspora and the work, religious and festive daily life of Africans, in order to understand the syncretism between the candomblé and the catholic religion, but especially today, the links between catholic festivities and the manifestation of Maracatu groups. The realization of the workshop made possible the identification of the cultural expressions existing in the village, among them, those that give identity support, emphasizing the Maracatu as one of the place references. From the interviews with the players, it can be seen that the Maracatus of Brejão manifest themselves in the moments of 'time off'; they have the same family origin and play with the formation of relatives and aggregates. The history of Maracatu as a popular manifestation of blacks is confused with the history of the village that, although formed in the XIX century, is inserted in a region which since the XVIII century has recorded the formation of quilombos. Through orality, until 2006 there was only the Maracatu Patrocínio do Brejão (MPB) in the village, originated from Mestre Plácido formation and led by his niece Mestre Lila since 1940. With the insertion of Brejão village in the Quilombola Brejão dos Negros, created by the Federal government, there was a schism in the merrymaking and Mestre Adalto, a MPB player creates the Maracatu Raízes do Quilombo (MRQ), distinguishing, in origin, as a formation that supports the movement to incorporate the village as a quilombo. Both are manifested as the MNPR because they are already disassociated from the popular processions of the Christmas cycle, for keeping elements of the court and the drums in the sense of joke, but they are distinct because they do not associate the formation with candomblé rituals. It was observed singular elements in the sense of play, in the formation of the territories and in the practices of the studied Maracatus, both, cultural reference of the village, being it Brejão or Brejão dos Negros.

Exploring Wellbeing in Small and Unconventional Dwellings : Understanding living in small and unconventional dwellings through a multi- dimensional perspective of space

Gentili, Elias January 2017 (has links)
Master thesis, Master of science in Innovation through Business, Engineering and Design with specialization in Business Administration Field of research: Business Administration, School of Business & Economics University: Linnaeus University, Växjö, Sweden Course code: 5FE07E Semester: Spring 2017 Author: Elias Gentili Examiner: Saara Taalas Tutor: Lena Olaison Title: Exploring Wellbeing in Small and Unconventional Dwellings Subtitle: Understanding living in small and unconventional dwellings through a multi- dimensional perspective of space Background: Urbanization and densification is happening in practically all parts of the world. Cities are becoming bigger, and questions about accessibility to the urban areas is a concern. Difficulties in finding affordable accommodation is one, and another one is wellbeing in homes. With the recent interests in the increasing tiny house movement, living solutions that are affordable, simple, and small are gaining in popularity. This is happening partly as a reaction to that the average home size in many parts of the western world have been increasing dramatically in the last decades. Both building regulation institutions and research are often connecting small space living with negative effects on wellbeing. But the tiny house movement seem to show that people can live well also in small dwellings outside of such regulations. The question of what brings wellbeing to a homes has never been more relevant, and the area of small and unconventional housing is lacking research. Research question: What is wellbeing living in small and unconventional homes? Purpose: The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of wellbeing in small and unconventional homes. The objective of this research is to provide a holistic understanding of wellbeing in such homes, by going beyond firstspace and secondspace dimensions, into a thirdspace perspective. Method: Semi-structured, face-to-face interviews and observations of people chosing to live in small and unconventional dwellings. A thematical analysis strategy suitable for new concept development was adopted. An abductive approach was applied in order to frame the study being multi disciplinary, and in order to obtain increased understandings of the study phenomenon. However, the study focused heavily on the empirical data from my study. Conclusion: This study found that the wellbeing is experienced as a totality of different dimensions: not only does the physical dwelling in itself provide for wellbeing, but also dimensions relating to thoughts, meanings and lived experiences they associate to their dwellings. A holistic perspective is what best can provide an understanding of their experienced wellbeing, where physical, mental and lived dimensions are combined. Furthermore was found that the dwellings can work as facilitators to achieve wellbeing on several levels both relating to their inner space in their dwellings, bringing in other spatialities, and for their lives as a whole. Keywords: Small space living, tiny house movement, experienced wellbeing at home, housing beyond traditions and conventions, influences of spatialities, spatial theory

Socio-spatialities of visual art in Stellenbosch

Viljoen, Vida Alexandra 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2015. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The social and spatial dimensions of any settlement are widely recognised in the international literature as having been shaped notably by art in some of the so-called cities of art or culture, such as Florence, Venice and other, smaller cultural nodes around the world. Arts resources have an impact on the socio-spatial dimension of a locale in a multitude of ways, and an understanding thereof can be hugely beneficial to a town‟s development and success. When developed, utilised and protected correctly, the full positive effects of such resources can be achieved to stimulate an inclusive and diverse art town setting. The Western Cape town of Stellenbosch is reputed for its rich arts and cultural heritage, yet there has not been extensive academic research concerning the incidence and effects thereof. Hence, Stellenbosch provides a platform from which to study the socio-spatial influence that visual art brings about in the interplay between art, people and space. Enhanced planning and decision making can then be undertaken for the current and future protection and management of art resources, equipping Stellenbosch to be part of a world that is both a competitive global market and diverse sphere of social constructs and discourses. The exploration of notions such as commoditisation, the places and spaces of art, formal and informal public art, artwork defacement, and the sense of place brought about by the art in Stellenbosch to obtain an overarching impression of the nature and extent of the influences of art on the socio-spatial dimension was the primary aim of this study. A descriptive overview of the socio-spatialities brought about by art in the so-called art town of Stellenbosch is provided by utilising in-depth interviews in combination with a minor GIS component. This enables an overall view of the public perception of art in Stellenbosch, as well as a visual overview of the distribution of the available art resources, hence providing new attribute and spatial data that can inform future initiatives in the town.

Pouvoir et production urbaine à Tripoli Al-Fayha'a (Liban) : quand l'illusio de la rente foncière et immobilière se mue en imperium / Power and production of urban space Tripoli Al-Fayha'a (Lebanon) : when the illusio of land rent and real-estate income mutates into imperium

Dewailly, Bruno 02 March 2015 (has links)
The Tripoli Al-Fayha’ a (Lebanon) urban area has a complex and eventful history. For a century its society has been facing transformative changes with a multitude of sources and consequences essentially linked to the reconfiguration of its economic structures born of its incorporation into modern Lebanon. Once an ancient and influential commercial city with regional and international reach, Tripoli has lost much of its economic vitality. It no longer creates sufficient wealth to provide its population with the continuation of past prosperity. It has become a place of physical, economic and symbolic battles in which its inhabitants struggle daily to ensure their livelihood. Postulating the establishment of an economy now principally based on a system of land and real-estate rent and of speculation, our thesis is proposing to analyse the reasons and true tenor of this particular process of production of urban space, as well as its mechanisms and effects, as a study, over time, of the spatialities linked to three urban projects: coastal planning, the realization of a real-estate driven land reparcelling of suburban orchards, and the redevelopment and enhancement of the Medina. The analysis of the sets of actions specific to these three situations – taken in their spatial, historical, and sociopolitical dynamics as well as on a local, regional, national, and international scale – invites one to question the meaning of urbanities and of a possible citadinity at play in Tripoli and, beyond this, to question the fundamental nature of the power exercised there. This analysis leads us then to ponder on the formation and existence of, as P. Bourdieu would designate it, a real-estate illusio, produced from and producing a powerful pleasurable “common affect”, which has reached – following B. Spinoza’s proposition – a state of imperium with unsustainable human and governmental consequences.
