This thesis focuses its attention on librarian profession. It follows the development of librarian profession since its beginning to the present. The thesis is concerned with prestige of the profession and its image. It represents some of the Czech librarian awards and deals with their holders. It introduces leading figures of Czech and world culture, who worked in library during their lives. Finally, the thesis seeks to capture the image of a librarian in literature and film.

A função educativa do bibliotecário é mencionada com frequência na literatura e ganha diferentes contornos nas discussões sobre as relações entre a Ciência da Informação e a Educação, principalmente ao tratar do apoio do profissional da informação nos processos de ensino-aprendizagem. Embora o tema esteja presente nos discursos da área, não há clareza sobre o delineamento dessa função e as atividades e competências necessárias para desenvolvê-la, o que dificulta a inserção desta temática na proposta político-pedagógica dos cursos de formação do bibliotecário. Trata-se de estudo exploratório, que tem como base a discussão conceitual sobre o papel de mediação do bibliotecário em diferentes ambientes, principalmente em bibliotecas de pesquisa; estudos sobre formação e potencial de inserção no mundo do trabalho; e estudos sobre competências, aptidões e habilidades esperadas na formação deste profissional. A metodologia inclui estudo bibliométrico dos trabalhos apresentados no GT-6 - Informação, Educação e Trabalho do Encontro Nacional de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação em Ciência da Informação (ENANCIB), no período de 2003 a 2012, para identificar principais autores e aspectos temáticos pesquisados, complementado por estudo de citações para identificar potenciais influências teóricas sobre a produção brasileira na área. O estudo utilizou procedimentos de análise de conteúdo para extrair eventuais definições, discussões ou exemplificações sobre desempenho de atividades que pudessem configurar-se como inerentes à função educativa do bibliotecário, de modo a orientar propostas para adequação das diretrizes curriculares de um curso de formação bibliotecário. O estudo confirmou a exigência para que o bibliotecário promova ações educativas nos ambientes informacionais, porém não aponta diretrizes teórico-metodológicas que possam sustentar um programa de formação baseado no desenvolvimento de competências ou habilidades para formação de um bibliotecário apto a desenvolver esta função. Indica que a formação desse profissional com competências de educador preparado para enfrentar os desafios cognitivos, sobretudo nos ambientes educacionais, é ainda um desafio para as escolas de Biblioteconomia e exige equipe multidisciplinar de pesquisadores que possam promover maior aproximação entre a pesquisa acadêmica e os ambientes sociais de atuação dos bibliotecários. / The educational role of the librarians is often mentioned in the literature and receives different approaches in discussions about the relationship between Information Science and Education, especially when dealing with the support of the information professional to the teaching - learning processes. Although the subject is presented in the discourses of the area, the boundaries of this function and of the activities and skills it requires are not clear, and the inclusion of this discussion in political-pedagogical proposal to the formation of librarians. This is an exploratory study, based on the conceptual discussion on the mediating role of the librarian in different professional contexts, mainly in research libraries; on studies about professional formation and potential for inclusion in the working world; and on studies on competencies, abilities and skills that this professional should have. The methodology uses bibliometric study of papers presented on the GT - 6 - Informação, Educação e Trabalho do Encontro Nacional de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação (ENANCIB) in the period 2003-2012, in order to identify main authors and thematic aspects researched, and also a citation study in order to identify potential theoretical influences on Brazilian production in these area. The study used content analysis procedures to extract definitions, exemplifications or discussions about performing activities that could be configured as inherent to the educational role of the librarian, in order to guide proposals for adaptation of curriculum guidelines for a Librarianship bachelor\'s course. The study confirmed that the librarians shall promote educational activities in information contexts, but it do not indicate theoretical and methodological guidelines that could sustain a course based on the development of skills and abilities to form a librarian who is able to perform this role. It indicates that the formation the librarians should recognize educational competencies in order to prepare them to face cognitive challenges, especially in educational contexts is still a challenge for schools of Librarianship and requires a multidisciplinary team of researchers that may promote further integration between the academic research and social contexts of work of the librarians .

The purpose of this qualitative study was to indicate changes in library services available to the citizens of Johnson City, Tennessee. The study covered library services available in educational and public settings for patrons from preschool to adult ages. Librarians in this study all worked in either a public library located in Johnson City, TN or worked in the Johnson City School System as a media specialist in either an elementary, middle, or high school. This qualitative study was conducted using interviews of librarians to gain their perceptions of the library and their roles within the libraries of Johnson City. Librarians were interviewed to determine their views in the past, present, and future of the library as an establishment. Documents from the various libraries were also analyzed to determine changes in library services. Various themes emerged from the data analysis. Participants discussed their roles as librarians, the library as an institution, and collection development. Other themes that emerged were discussions of library materials that were now or would become archaic. Participants also made projections as to the future of the library itself and whether or not it would become obsolete. The results of this study suggest that libraries will continue to evolve as technologies and community needs and expectations change. The appearance of the library will evolve to contain more learning spaces for active and group learning. The role of the librarian will evolve as the technology evolves. It will become more focused upon teaching patrons how to use learning tools and access information rather than simply managing and controlling the library’s assets. The librarians’ role has the potential to become one of service leadership in the community and in the school setting. The impact of the library and the librarians’ role will directly affect students, teachers, and community members. Recommendations from this study may assist in transitioning the librarian/media specialist’s role to a great service leadership model that supports individual growth and community development.

O universo foi constituído por 1941 bibliotecários registrados no CRB/5ª região, dos quais 910 estão ativos. Os inscritos no Conselho no período entre 2013 a 2014 que atuam nos estados de Bahia e Sergipe totalizam 435 bibliotecários. A amostra foi constituída pelos respondentes, ou seja, foram 45 questionários respondidos dentro da população de inscritos no CRB/5º região no período estipulado pela presente investigação. O baixo índice de retorno dos respondentes comparado ao número total de credenciados no período escolhido (45/435= 10,3%) pode ter ocorrido devido a uma possível desatualização de cadastro, pouca acessibilidade destes profissionais ao e-mail ou falta de interesse em responder a um questionário longo.Salienta-se que o recorte temporal, apontado pela investigação justifica-se pela necessidade de desvelar a realidade de profissionais experientes, mas que não tenham muito tempo de formação inicial que possivelmente estão atentos para as tendências e desafios do mercado atual. Conclui-se, dentre outras considerações finais, que os bibliotecários credenciados no CRB/5ª Região no período de 2004 a 2013, apresentam-se motivados por variáveis que perpassam diversos contextos, desde os de ordem econômica, os de características sociais, até as mais elevadas percepções cognitivas individuais. / ABSTRACT The present work addresses theories about motivation for work and has as general objective: To evaluate a motivation for the work from the perspective of the librarians enrolled in the Regional Council of Librarianship of the 5ªRegion (BAHIA / SERGIPE);and as specific objectives: Measure a motivation for the work of the librarian; Identify the motivating elements for the librarian's work; and Identify the de-motivating elements of these professionals for the job.The Methodology used to reach the objectives highlights the type of research, a justification, the universe and sample and adopts the Motivation and Satisfaction Inventory for Work as the data collection instrument of the research. The universe was constituted by 1941 registered librarians in the CRB / 5º region, of which 910 are active. Those enrolled in the council in the period between 2013 to 2014 that operate in the states of Bahia and Sergipe total 435 librarians. The sample consisted of respondents, that is, 45 questionnaires were answered within the population enrolled in the CRB / 5th region in the period stipulated for the present investigation. The low rate of return of the respondents compared to the total number of accredited in the chosen period (45/435 = 10.3%) may have occurred due to a possible outdated registration, poor accessibility of the professionals to the e-mail or lack of interest in answer a long questionnaire. It should be noted that the time cut, as pointed out by the research is justified by the need to unveil the reality of experienced professionals, but who do not have a lot of initial training time, possibly paying attention to current market trends and challenges. It is concluded, among other final considerations, that the librarians accredited in the CRB / 5ª Region from 2004 to 2013, are motivated by variables that cover different contexts, from variables economic and social, to the highest individual perceptions cognitive.

Para atingir o objetivo proposto, em primeiro lugar, traçou-se um marco teórico voltado à contextualização da sociedade contemporânea na qual atua o profissional e à caracterização da lógica conceitual e político-ideológica que perpassa a noção de competência; em uma segunda fase, fez-se um estudo exploratório da literatura da área de Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação sobre formação e perfil profissional, em perspectiva histórica e com ênfase em competências, para desvelar os discursos e as expectativas, de modo a que se pudesse fazer o cotejamento de idéias, conceitos e propostas de professores, dos especialistas e técnicos, no que tange aos saberes, habilidades e atitudes que, segundo esta visão, devem embasar a formação do profissional, de modo a potencializar a mobilização de competências nas ações profissionais; o resultado aponta a persistência das funções social e de mediação que o profissional exerce milenarmente na sociedade, inclusive com perspectiva de continuidade; revela que o bibliotecário disputa espaço com outros profissionais no segmento que deve ser atendido pela biblioteca especializada e serviços de informação especializados, uma vez que, nestes espaços, a informação ganhou caráter de commodity, aspecto que não vem sendo contemplado na formação deste profissional; por fim, faz-se uma análise contrastiva entre as competências cotejadas na literatura científica e aquelas propostas pelas Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais, objetivando encontrar similitudes, divergências e omissões entre os conjuntos de competências apontados por cada constructo. Constata-se a necessidade de reformulação da formação profissional, de modo a preparar o bibliotecário para atender ao segmento das bibliotecas universitárias e especializadas e para o gerenciamento de serviços e sistemas de informação de base tecnológica e de cunho estratégico e mesmo para renovar a sua atuação no setor das bibliotecas públicas e escolares. / ABSTRACT This study aims to identify the skills of the modern librarian, as a prerequisite for the design of occupational profiles and curricula for the development of skills-based parameters, as introduced Resolution n. 19, March 13, 2002, the Conselho Nacional de Educação/Câmara de Educação Superior(CNE / CES). To reach that goal, first drew up a theoretical framework focused on the contextualization of contemporary society in which it operates and the professional characteristics of the conceptual logic and political-ideological permeates the notion of competence, in a second phase, it was made an exploratory study of literature in the field of Library and Information Science on training and professional profile in a historical perspective and emphasis on skills, to reveal the discourses and expectations, so that you could do the comparison of ideas,concepts and proposals from teachers, specialists and technicians, with respect to knowledge, skills and attitudes that, in this view, should support the professional training in order to enhance the mobilization of expertise in professional actions, the result shows that the social functions and professional mediation continues for millennium in society, including the prospect of continuity, reveals that the librarian compete with other professionals in the segment that should be served by specialized library and specialized information services, since these spaces the information gained commodity character, an aspect that has not been included in this professional training, and finally, it was mad a contrastive analysis between the skills collated in the scientific literature and those proposed by the Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais, in order to find similarities, differences and omissions between the skill sets for each indicated construct. There is a need to reform professional training, in order to prepare the librarian to serve the segment of the university and specialized libraries and management of service and information systems according to technology and strategic nature and even to renew their work in the sector of public and school libraries.

Thus, companies deal with the challenge of managing their growing information flow, which starts with data collection and proceeds to the dissemination. From this perspective, this paper aims to analyze the skills of the managing librarian as strategic tools to aid business competitiveness, especially in Brazil's Micro and Small Business Support Service - Ceará (Sebrae - CE) Metropolitan Regional branch. Thereafter, operational goals are: (1) identifying the activities carried out by the librarian in the business information management process in that context; (2) identifying the skills and competences of the librarian in information management; (3) analyzing the contribution of the librarian as information manager for business competitiveness by making information available to the institution's clients. In order to achieve the aforementioned goals, theoretically, we studied the fundamental items for understanding the reality considered, such as conceptualization/evolution, intertwinements and interdisciplinarity existing between library science, documentation and information science. Additionally, the study includes information management (IM) intrinsic aspects, such as the distinction between data, information and knowledge and information management processes. Discussion on the competencies of the librarian in business information management is also explored. That requires an analysis of IM referred to by authors like Beuren (2000), Choo (2006), Davenport (1998), McGee and Prusak (1994). The importance of IM and knowledge management (KM) presented by Barbosa (2008) and Valentine (2004), and information management as a component of competitiveness, according to Silva (2001), is also emphasized. Methodologically, the research is qualitative and quantitative, having exploratory nature. It is a case study on SEBRAE - CE Metropolitan Regional branch. The research used interviews and questionnaires with librarians and external users (entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs) of the Center for Documentation and Information (CDI), respectively. Given the particularities and characteristics of the population, simple (probabilistic) random sampling process was adopted, whereas the selection of respondents is based upon a convenience sample (non-probabilistic). We draw on content analysis of the data collected in the search for answers to the objectives. From the research it may be inferred that the librarian's activities in the IM process consists in the identification of information needs, acquisition, organization, storage, distribution, and dissemination process. It is noteworthy that the librarian, throughout his/her formation and training, acquires skills and competencies that enable him/her to deal with information management. In addition, the librarian contributes significantly to business competitiveness by providing information, because it is consensual that users recognize the importance of the librarian in the IM process. / A sociedade contemporânea lida com o desafio de gerenciar significativo volume de informações necessárias à realização das atividades dos cidadãos em sua vida cotidiana e profissional. Nesse contexto, as empresas lidam com o desafio de administrar seu crescente fluxo informacional, que se inicia com a coleta de dados e caminha até a disseminação. Sob esta ótica, objetiva-se analisar as competências do bibliotecário gestor como ferramentas estratégicas de auxílio à competitividade empresarial, em especial, no âmbito do Serviço Brasileiro de Apoio às Micro e Pequenas Empresas Ceará (SEBRAE-CE) Regional Metropolitano. A partir de então, são objetivos operacionais: (1) identificar as atividades realizadas pelo bibliotecário no processo de gestão da informação empresarial no referido contexto; (2) identificar as habilidades e competências do bibliotecário no gerenciamento da informação; (3) analisar a contribuição do bibliotecário como gestor da informação para a competitividade empresarial ao disponibilizar informações para os usuários dessa instituição. Para a consecução dos objetivos enunciados, teoricamente, estudam-se itens fundamentais ao entendimento da realidade estudada, tal como conceituação / evolução, entrelaçamentos e interdisciplinaridade existente entre biblioteconomia, documentação e ciência da informação. Também o estudo contempla aspectos intrínsecos à GI, como a distinção entre dados, informação e conhecimento e os processos de gestão da informação. Acrescenta-se discussão acerca das competências do bibliotecário na gestão da informação empresarial. Para tanto, analisa-se a GI referenciada por autores, como Beuren (2000); Choo (2006); Davenport (1998); McGee e Prusak (1994). Enfatiza, ainda, a importância da GI e da gestão do conhecimento (GC) apresentada por Barbosa (2008) e Valentim (2004), além de apresentar a gestão da informação como um dos componentes da competitividade, segundo Silva (2001). Em termos metodológicos, a pesquisa apresenta-se como quali-quantitativa, de cunho exploratório. Constitui-se como estudo de caso e tem como ambiente de pesquisa o SEBRAE-CE Regional Metropolitano. O universo da pesquisa compreende os bibliotecários e usuários externos (empresários e aspirantes a empresários) do Centro de Documentação e Informação (CDI) do Regional Metropolitano a quem são aplicados, respectivamente, entrevistas e questionários. Diante das especificidades e características da população, adota-se o processo de amostragem aleatória simples (probabilística), enquanto a seleção dos entrevistados se dá baseada numa amostra por conveniência (não probabilística). Recorre-se à análise de conteúdo dos dados coletados na busca de respostas aos objetivos. A partir da pesquisa infere-se que as atividades realizadas pelo bibliotecário no processo de GI consistem no processo de identificação das necessidades de informação, aquisição, organização, armazenamento, distribuição e disseminação da informação. Ressalta-se que o bibliotecário, ao longo de sua formação, adquire habilidades e competências que o permitem lidar com a gestão da informação. Além disto, o bibliotecário contribui significativamente para a competitividade empresarial ao disponibilizar informações, pois os usuários são unânimes ao reconhecerem a importância do bibliotecário no processo de GI.

The aim of this thesis is to explore medical librarians information practice in a pedagogical context. The empirical material was produced by 6 semi-structured interviews at 5 different hospital libraries during April and March 2023. A practice-oriented approach was used by the theoretical lens of Social Practice by Shove, Pantzar and Watson. In the analysis it was thematised by the practice elements material, competences and meanings. The findings show that medical librarians informationpractice in a pedagogical context work with many different materials and have competences that are of importance for students, hospital staff and researchers. They adapt their teaching and guidance for the user and their level. The different meanings that the medical libraries user and organization put on the medical library and their services has an impact on their ability to reach more of their users and their development.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how school librarians describe that they can help students with their reading and linguistic development within the school subject Swedish by motivating them to read. We also intend to study if they take on a more didactic teaching role when it comes to the students’ linguistic development by utilising and reading comprehension strategies in their work with the students. The theories applied encompass different reading comprehension strategies, motivation for reading and theories of preunderstanding together with Lev Vygotskijs theories about the socio-cultural perspectives. The empiric material have been collected through interviews with four school librarians and observations of three. The material have been analysed and interpreted through theories and earlier research. The major findings are that the school librarians can affect the students’ motivation for reading by presenting new books, by allowing the students to choose their own books and by providing a broad variety of book to choose from. Furthermore we found that the librarians use severar methods for reading comprehension in their work, for example Concept Oriented Reading Instruction and Reciprocal Teaching.

本研究之目的在於瞭解我國專門圖書館館員工作焦慮之產生來源及因素、瞭解我國專門圖書館館員工作焦慮之影響層面、目前我國專門圖書館館員如何降低工作焦慮之方式，以及瞭解館員個人背景資料在工作焦慮上之差異，並對於我國不同類型之專門圖書館館員產生工作焦慮之來源及影響層面的差異有具體瞭解，以提供專門圖書館館員作為降低工作焦慮及專門圖書館在規劃館員工作職掌及分配職務性質之基礎，並作為專門圖書館施行館員繼續教育之參考。 本研究採取的研究方法主要為問卷調查法，首先蒐集國內外相關文獻，進行整理及分析，並探討專門圖書館館員工作焦慮之構面，以擬訂調查問卷。在問卷量表的設計上主要是依據國內外有關使用者及諮商工作之焦慮量表為基礎，再進一步發展設計本研究之焦慮量表，量表內容共分為五點，依序為「不會」、「幾乎不會」、「有時會」、「常常會」、「幾乎都會」等，以區分館員在焦慮感受之不同程度。本研究為分析各類型專門圖書館之間館員工作焦慮的差異，因專門圖書館各類型圖書館中，有許多皆屬相同之母機構，使得同一類型的館員工作焦慮較為相似，故採取配額抽樣法(quota sampling)，針對專門圖書館之九大類型進行抽樣調查，而不以普查方式進行調查。為求每一館別抽中之機率相等，故以圖書館館別為母群，依九大類型分別在母群中所佔比例採隨機抽樣方式，採母群的三分之一比例為樣本數，此外並從各類型中隨機挑選一館之館員進行問卷前測，依據前測之意見修正問卷，再全面發放。 經由調查研究顯示，在產生工作焦慮的來源及因素上：以個人、組織、資訊科技、圖書館工作與服務四大構面加以綜合分析，可得知產生工作焦慮的主要來源依序為「語文能力」、「工作時效性」、「組織的人事精簡」、「與蒐藏主題不可的專業學科背景」、「圖書館的對外政策不一」及「與單位主管的關係」並列、「工作職務」、「使用者的各項情緒反應（抱怨或焦慮）」、「個性」、「工作考核的結果」、「與母機構的互動不良」和「單位主管的更動」並列、「新的應用軟體」等。在工作焦慮對館員的影響層面及因素上：影響最高者為「工作倦怠感」，其次為「身體健康」、「工作滿意度」、「工作氣氛」、「同事之間的人際關係」、「家庭生活」與「工作績效之考核」並列、「團隊工作」、「服務讀者之品質」、「工作職務之分配」、「在職訓練之意願」和「工作輪調（職務調動）之實施」並列；而以「工作升遷之機會」影響最低。在有效降低工作焦慮之方法上：對館員最有效的方法為「參加休閒活動」，其次為「培養其他興趣」、「增加同事之間的交流」、「與親朋好友討論」、「參加在職進修」、「參加電腦訓練課程」、「請求資訊中心及人員的協助」、「和上司溝通」、「參加宗教活動」、「與其他圖書館合作」、「職務調動」、「排班（彈性上班）」、「找心理諮商人員」，而效果最低者為「找醫生協助」。 研究結果亦發現不同受訪者與各焦慮量表有部份差異，在不同受訪者與工作焦慮來源及因素之綜合分析方面：個人層面在性別、婚姻及家庭狀況、學科背景、目前所擔任的主要工作職務等自變項與部份依變項有所差異；組織層面在有無宗教信仰、學科背景、圖書館的工作年資、目前所擔任的主要工作職務、目前擔任的工作職務為全職或兼職等自變項與部份依變項有所差異；資訊科技層面在性別、年齡、學科背景、目前所擔任的主要工作職務、目前擔任的工作職務為全職或兼職等自變項與部份依變項有所差異；圖書館工作與服務層面在性別、年齡、教育程度、圖書館的工作年資、目前所擔任的主要工作職務、目前擔任的工作職務為全職或兼職、目前擔任的工作職務年資等自變項與部份依變項有所差異。在不同受訪者與工作焦慮可能影響層面之綜合分析方面：在年齡、教育程度、學科背景、目前所擔任的主要工作職務、目前擔任的工作職務為全職或兼職等自變項與部份依變項有所差異。 而九大類型專門圖書館與各焦慮量表之綜合分析方面，只在第三部份有效降低工作焦慮的方法之認知，宗教團體的館員都遠比研究機構及民眾團體的館員普遍認為「參加宗教活動」可有效降低工作焦慮，在前二部份並無差異，由此可知專門圖書館各類型之館員，基本上仍有其同質性，並不因歸屬之類型而有所差異。 依據研究結果提出四方面之建議，在研究工具方面：應建立完整與正確的專門圖書館名錄。在館員方面：1.釐清工作焦慮的來源；2.選擇有效降低工作焦慮之方法；3.正視個人的情緒管理；4.慎選個人述任的工作職務；5.安排適當的工作進度；6.應訓練自己正向思考；7.生活規律及營養均衡；8.轉移焦慮感及尋求協助。在圖書館方面：1.重視館員工作品質之需求；2.適度調整館員工作職務之分配；3.建立組織內部良好之溝通管道；4.母機構及單住主管應重視在職進修；5.建立職務代理制度並鼓勵員工休假。在圖書館學會方面：1.各類型專門圖書館之定義及定位；2.舉辦專門圖書館之單位主管與館員情緒管理相關之講座。
