Lästriangeln – en modell för systematisk läsundervisning / The Reading Triangle: A Model for Systematic Teaching of Reading Comprehension

Wejrum, Marie January 2017 (has links)
International student assessments show that reading comprehension among Swedish pupils has decreased and the Swedish school system has become less successful in compensating for the variety of pupils’ background. The aim of this study is to examine whether the reading triangle, which is an adaption of the text triangle, provides a beneficial model to use at lower secondary level to enhance advanced reading comprehension and to systematize the teaching of reading on the basis of models developed in research on writing. The study draws on Anglo-Saxon and Nordic research on the teaching of reading and writing, as well as theories of metacognition and visual learning. The results show that the reading triangle, after some modifications, can serve as a tool to make pupils aware of their reading process and at what level they read and analyse texts. Moreover, the model can be a tool for teachers to systematize their teaching of reading and clarifying on what levels they need to focus when planning their teaching of reading.

State-Corporate Crime på svenska : En förstudie i definitioner och tillfällesstrukturer

Nellevad, Jessica January 2024 (has links)
Abstract State-Corporate Crime in Swedish – A prestudy in definitions and opportunity structures The purpose of this study was to, through Swedish cases of state-corporate crime, raise the concept in a Swedish context and study whether there were specific opportunity structures in Swedish conditions and analyze this trough criminological theory. The data collection method consisted of a media and literature review, where the selection was based on the concept of state-corporate crime. The data was then studied through a crime script analysis, and finally analyzed in a comparative case study. The Swedish cases that were found were: the Bofors affairs, the Saudi agreement, the JAS affairs and the Telia affairs. These constituted examples of both State initiated corporate crime and State facilitated corporate crime and turned out to have similar opportunity structures. Which consisted of pressure for profit, criminal tools in the form of bribes and middlemen, and of neutralization techniques. The result match Cressey's fraud triangle theory of pressure, opportunity, and rationalization.

The principles of prevention and the development of the prevention triangle model for the evaluation of terrorism prevention

Longshore, David M. N. 03 1900 (has links)
CHDS State/Local / Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / In "The Principles of Prevention and the Development of the Prevention Triangle Model for the Evaluation of Terrorism Prevention," we propose the theoretical and practical development of the Prevention Triangle, a graphical model designed to define a system for evaluating national, state, and local terrorism prevention mandates and programs. Based upon objectives detailed in the National Strategy for Homeland Security, and derived through an analysis of selected prevention theories and programs - primarily those aimed at crime prevention - this study first seeks a theoretical basis for the prevention of terrorism in the form of four principles before deriving and defining representative evaluative criteria for designing and measuring the efficacy of prevention programs. / Civilian, Homeland Security Liaison, The City of New York

Bedömning för vilket lärande? : En studie av vad bedömning för lärande blir och gör i ämnet idrott och hälsa

Tolgfors, Björn January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the didactic consequences of assessment for learning (AfL) in the subject of physical education and health (PEH) at three upper secondary schools in Sweden. The purpose of the study is to investigate how assessment for learning is realised in PEH and what triadic relations between the teacher, student and subject content are established in the formative assessment practice. The empirical material consists of group reflections within a Teacher Learning Community (TLC) as well as field studies, including lesson observations and semi structured interviews with both students and teachers. In the first step of the analysis the material is categorized by means of the five key strategies (Wiliam, 2010a), in order to identify different ways of working with AfL in upper secondary PEH. The second step is a combination of a governmentality (Foucault, 1978/1991b), a performativity (Ball, 2003) and a didactic (Hudson, 2002) analysis, which illuminates what triadic relations are established under different conditions of governance. The findings highlight five fabrications of AfL in PEH, named after their most prominent features or functions, AfL as: i) Empowerment, ii) Physical Activation, iii) Grade Generation, iv) Constructive Alignment, v) Negotiation. ”Among the products of discursive practices are the very persons who engage in them” (Davies & Harré, 2001, p. 263). Accordingly, different teacher and student subjects as well as characteristics of the subject content are constituted in each of these fabrications. Moreover, the so called ‘backwash effect’ (Torrance, 2012) implies that the contrasting versions of AfL promote different kinds of learning, such as: i) increased autonomy, ii) participation in a community of practice, iii) criteria compliance, iv) acquisition of prescribed abilities, v) group development. However, the big idea of AfL is to adapt the teaching to the students and not the students to the knowledge requirements. Hence, this dissertation could serve as a basis for discussion on possible didactic implications of AfL in PEH.

”Det är så deppigt om man tror att svenska är stavning” : Tre lärare kommenterar en elevtext / "It's so depressing if you think that Swedish means spelling". : Three teachers comment on a pupil's text

Källdén, Stina, Gustavsson, Hanna January 2016 (has links)
The aim of the study is to investigate which linguistic aspects teachers pay attention to when they analyze a pupil’s text, and what response they choose to give based on the analysis. The study builds on semi-structured interviews with three teachers and applies a sociocultural perspective. The result shows that the teachers in the study largely proceed from a functional outlook on texts. Although they were given a text with many linguistic problems on the surface, they saw the aspects on a more general textual level, for example, the main theme and the way the text was adjusted to suit the receiver. In the analyses of the pupil’s text the informants revealed different evaluations of the level of linguistic development a pupil should have reached in grade six, and different interpretations of how a pupil should write to satisfy the demands in the syllabus for Swedish. When the informants were asked to select aspects that they would use in response to an envisaged pupil, it turned out that their comments did not have the same spread between the different levels of the text. In their responses the informants were generally more inclined to proceed from the general levels of the text than they were in their earlier analyses.

Palliative Care for Pancreatic and Periampullary Cancer

Perone, Jennifer A., Riall, Taylor S., Olino, Kelly 12 1900 (has links)
Most patients with pancreatic cancer will present with metastatic or locally advanced disease. Unfortunately, most patients with localized disease will experience recurrence even after multimodality therapy. As such, pancreatic cancer patients arrive at a common endpoint where decisions pertaining to palliative care come to the forefront. This article summarizes surgical, endoscopic, and other palliative techniques for relief of obstructive jaundice, relief of duodenal or gastric outlet obstruction, and relief of pain due to invasion of the celiac plexus. It also introduces the utility of the palliative care triangle in clarifying a patient's and family's goals to guide decision making.

Geomorfologická interpolace vrstevnic nad nepravidelnou trojúhelníkovou sítí / Geomorphological contour interpolation over triangulated irregular network

Morávek, Andrej January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this master thesis is to create an application to generate smooth contours with the method of non-linear, so-called geomorphological interpolation over triangulated irregular network using patch technique. The introductory part consists of the state of art in the field of patch modelling and description of georelief in the form of digital terrain models. The core of the work comprises the mathematical background of Bézier triangle patches using barycentric coordinates and interpolation techniques with definition of continuity. The main contribution is a proper algorithm of balanced patch smoothing in order to generate smooth contours as form of georelief representation. Description of linear contour interpolation over triangulated irregular network as a method of indirect geomorphological interpolation is also part of the core. Finally, the last part describes the implementation of algorithms that forms the application, presents and evaluates the results on synthetic and real data.

Triangle

Peters, Joyana 16 May 2014 (has links)
Abstract In the Lower East Side of New York City from 1909 through 1911 a fight for change was taking place. Jewish immigrant girls put their safety on the line and brought attention to the abuse taking place in factories across the country. They first spoke out and led the Ladies' Garment Worker strike bringing attention to their cause. But it was ultimately their untimely deaths in one of the most tragic workplace disasters ever in history that finally spurred the country to action in passing new fire safety and child labor laws.
