Validade da tomografia computadorizada multislice e da tomografia computadorizada por feixe cônico para identificação de lesões ósseas simuladas na mandíbula, com e sem a presença de artefatos dentários metálicos / Validity of multislice computed tomography and cone-beam computed tomography for the identification of bone lesions in the mandible with and without dental metal artifacts the presence of dental metallic artifacts

Andréia Perrella 02 December 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of multislice computed tomography (MSCT) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in identification of simulated mandibular lesions in situations with and without metallic artifacts in several observation protocols. MSCT and CBCT examinations were performed in dry mandibles, in which holes were performed simulating lesions. The images were taken in two stages: in the presence and absence of metal dental restorations. Two observers, previously calibrated, observed the images by evaluating the images for the presence or absence of lesion, loci number and whether there were medullary invasion. Observers used image manipulation softwares, installed on independent workstations, to reconstruct the images in the following evaluation protocols: axial, sagittal + coronal, 3D, sets (axial+ coronal + sagittal + 3 D) and parasagittal. The sensitivity and specificity of MSCT (64 slices) and CBCT for diagnosis of simulated bone lesions in the mandible, using independent workstation were demonstrated as the values obtained were greater than 95% using the appropriate observation protocol. The influence of dental metallic artifacts was negligible in the interpretation of mandibular bone lesions, since the values of accuracy in the analysis with and without artifact were quite close. The images acquired with MCT suffered more influence of artifacts than the protocols acquired by TCFC, although the values were all high and quite close. Except for 3D reconstructions, which originated from the CBCT, showed the lowest accuracy. The best protocol for post-processing and interpretation of simulated bone lesions was called RMP +3 D. The protocol that showed the worst results was parasagital.

An implementation model for strategic organizational change in Ethiopian commercial banks

Getahun Mekonnen Belay 02 1900 (has links)
The issue of successful implementation of strategic organizational change is not sufficiently addressed in the literature of organizational change even though there is unanimity in reporting a high rate of failure. Moreover, attempts to provide supportive guidelines that enhance implementation success are meager and their validity in nonwestern contexts is disputed. Thus, the present study tried to address the question of how a strategic organizational change can be successfully implemented by developing an implementation model within the context of Ethiopian commercial banks. In Ethiopia, commercial banking is exclusively reserved for nationals. This makes the setting a typical national context from where two commercial banks were included in the present study through maintaining maximum variation in ownership structure. Embedded in each bank, cases of teams which were established to redesign a specific type of business process were identified to theoretically sample participants for the indepth interviews. Applying an inductive multiple case study strategy, a combination of within-case and cross-case analyses were employed with the support of the ATLAS.ti software. As a result, theoretical propositions were made and an implementation model for strategic organizational change was developed by taking the context of commercial banks in Ethiopia into consideration. The findings indicate that national and organizational contexts demand contextualized approaches to implement strategic organizational change. Although several concepts which are documented in the extant literature were confirmed, original propositions are also made by the present study. A triple helix of initiating, designing, and implementing were emerged as inseparable components of the proposed implementation model for strategic organizational change in a context where cognitive and technical readiness is ensured. / Business Management / DBL

Managing this relationship capability with partners has been the focus of study of many researchers, because to align the proposed goals among partners is one of the challenges to have success in alliances, and many fail in this management process. In this way, the aim of this research was to determine the role of artifacts in the coordination of strategic alliances, enhancing the knowledge about how artifacts present in routines and processes can help to develop the capacity of alliances coordination. The methodology involved multiple case studies in four pharmaceutical companies, because there are many contract strategic alliances in this area as well as Brazilian government incentives. The data about alliances were collected through interviews with managers responsible for their areas in their companies, hierarchy levels 2 or 3. The data were analyzed by beans of category thematic analysis, through cross checking predefined categories. The main categories and the cases were cross checked, resulting in non-defined propositions. It could be concluded that the artifacts contribute in many ways with coordination activities, allowing to organize and synthetize part of the activities present in the processes and routines of coordination, acting as a guide for the execution of the activities. The theoretical contribution of this work is in the way artifacts help in the relationship between the mechanisms, people, processes and structures, helping in the relationship among these three mechanisms, to understand how routines cope with artifacts, and how the predefined actions should be planned, organized, made and controlled. In other words, how they can me managed by managers. The executive point of view is that managers should seek for the most adequate artifacts for developing and controlling the alliances, analyzing the processes and routines for a better understanding of which artifacts could be used.

Cremonini, Caio Cesar 01 June 2015 (has links)
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of metallic artifacts in CBCT (Cone beam computed tomography) images, caused by dental titanium implants, at adjacent periodontal structures. Materials and Methods: 23 patients were submitted a CBCT examination before and after the implant placement. Thickness Measurements of buccal cortical were performed by a calibrated observer (ICC=0.95), at parassagital cross-sections of previously obtained images. The frequency of influence level (mild, moderate, severe) of the artifact was calculated for horizontal distance of the implant, buccal cortical thickness and vertical distance of the buccal alveolar crest. Results: 5 patients were excluded, and 18 selected, 24 unitary implants cases at posterior mandible were examined, 24 mesial test teeth (MTT) and 17 Distal test teeth (DTT) from the implants. There was an association between the vertical distance of the buccal alveolar crest and the impossibility to measure the thickness of buccal cortical for MTT and DTT (p<0.05 for both). There was no association between the thickness of buccal cortical and horizontal distance for the artifacts level of influence (p>0.05 for both). There was association between horizontal distance and the level of the artifact influence at any periodontal structure, for the sum of MTT and DTT (p<0.05). Conclusion: the metallic artifacts caused by dental implants can influence the CBCT image interpretation at periodontal adjacent sites, and the level of the influence depends on the horizontal distance of the dental implant at any periodontal structures, and the vertical distance from the buccal alveolar crest.

Ismail, Marina, Timurtas, Jennifer January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the experience of organizational culture among salespeople at a specific workplace. The purpose was also to investigate what motivates these salespeople in their work and the impact culture has on their motivation. We have used a qualitative research method to collect the empirical material. With the help of seven interviews, including six salespeople from one of Sweden’s biggest electronic retailer and also one information interview with a sales consultant, we attempted to find the answer to how they perceive the organizational culture and how it affects their work motivation. The following questions are used to fulfill this purpose:  How do the salespeople experience the organizational culture?  What motivates the salespeople in their daily work?  What effects does the organizational culture have on the salespersons motivation? As analytical tools we have used are the concept of organizational culture, Schein's description of the three components of culture and Herzberg Motivation-Hygiene theory. The results of the study indicate that the salespeople experience a positive organizational culture and that this culture promotes fellowship and unity between colleagues, which in turn contributes to an enhanced motivation. Our study also shows that there are other factors contributing to the salespeople’s motivation such as conscious efforts of the organization and the factors that are built in into their daily work. A strong contest culture is also shown in the organization, the colleagues compete amongst each other to become the best salesperson.  Vad motiverar försäljarna i deras dagliga arbete?

ARTEFAKTER PÅ FÖRSKOLANS UTEGÅRD : En kvalitativ studie om hur svenska förskolebarn interagerar med och uppfattar artefakterna på sin utegård / ARTIFACTS ON THE PRESCHOOL’S PATIO : A qualitative research of how Swedish preeschool children interact with and perceive the artifacts on their patio

Viklund, Sara, Setterberg, Louise January 2012 (has links)
The study's purpose is to create a better understanding of how Swedish preschool children aged four to five years interact with and perceive the various artifacts on their patio. With artifacts means the physical tools that are on the preschool’s patio. We have chosen to focus on if the children play alone or with others, if they play by the given function or created function, and how they see the artifacts considering aesthetic judgments. We have used the method of the Mosaic approach that emphasizes the child's perspective. In our study have the children photographed the patio. Ten children were interviewed about the patio where the children's photographs were used to discuss. Four children guided us around the patio. The results showed that when the children talked about the pictures they came up with many different uses and opinions about the artifacts. During guided tours, we saw how four children interacted with the artifacts and we even got a comprehensive image of the patio. It turned out that the children used the sand together with the artifacts, which may be due to the sand is easily accessible and easy to move. It was also found that children think about their safety because the children showed a concern of falling from the artifacts that were highly placed. Our conclusion is that the patio offers privacy and play together with other children, and to use the given and created functions together with the artifacts. The results of the study show that the artifacts create a pleasant patio, which appears when the children gladly talk about and show the different artifacts.

Design & Narration? : -A research exploring how design and narration, collectively, work as a means to expand the uncharted field of design pedagogy / Design & Narration?

Ceder, Clara January 2011 (has links)
ABSTRACT This text process a design pedagogical research executed in Arvidsjaur during the fall of 2011. The formulation of questions that this study circles around regards how combining design and narration can be used in the development of design pedagogy. Also scrutinized, how did the formulation of this research affect the outcome and what means, in addition their attendance, did the people who partook contribute with? The purpose is to find a pedagogic angle that moves focus away from the finished product and onto other aspects of the design process. To clarify, by investigating how narration adapts as a tool during a design process this research seek to enlighten ways that we comprehend, and make use of, our surroundings while working towards a common - designed - goal. What comes about when gathering a group of people and asking them to represent Arvidsjaur by designing a cup? The material used emanates from observations, narratives, images and finished artifacts – all deriving from a set of workshops held in the city of Arvidsjaur. To partake in the workshops was voluntary and the invite began with the question/statement: Design and narration? An ethnographically inspired method preceded the structure of the study and hence made it impossible to foreordain what would occur before arriving in Arvidsjaur. By placing the gathered material and observations along with a set of selected theories, such as sociocultural learning and social constructionism, I wish to enlighten and point out qualities, along with weaknesses, that this study occupies. Beyond a written contribution, and the work on the field, the research resulted in a number of designed cups. These cups were photographed, processed, and depicted in three different ways – as posters and as a series of photographs. These images were on display during an exhibition at Konstfack in December 2011. My contribution to the exhibition was meant as a continuation on questions regarding design and narration. What happens e.g. with an item when it is displayed in this matter? When moved from one context to another? It is thus a way to stress the importance of questioning and challenge the way we apprehend our surroundings and what we chose to enlighten or leave out – a comment on a stirring development. I did not wish to explain to the viewer what the cups narrate; they were made to reveal something on their own. How they ultimately are received becomes yet another way of pointing out that how we experience something is dependent on a variety of circumstances.

A Spatial Inquiry Into Western Anatolian Urban Centers: Tire In The Making (14th - 16th Centuries)

Caner Yuksel, Cagla 01 March 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Western Anatolia witnessed a crucial and eventful period between the end of the 13th and the middle of the 15th centuries. The region stood in a critical position giving way to trade between East and West, located at the junction of the sea and land routes. This following study concentrates on a crucial aspect of Western Anatolia within these circumstances on the rise, through the 14th and 16th centuries. That is to say, this thesis focuses on the establishment and remodeling of the urban centers in Western Anatolia between the 14th and 16th centuries. In addition, it proposes an in depth analysis of one of these centers, namely Tire to further substantiate its theses on the making of these centers. The main argumentation of the dissertation is twofold. First, it asserts the influence of the socio-economic backgrounds of these urban centers, particularly the role of trade activities, trade relations, trade road and urban network in the making of these towns. Second, it asserts the influence of architectural constituents of urban form in the formation and transformation of these towns. Namely, it argues the role of particular architectural types, monuments that act as urban artifacts in urban development, the most significant of which are building groups in the form of k&uuml / lliyes or zaviyes. Accordingly, the thesis maintains that both trade, trade roads and urban network, related with the socio-economic backgrounds of the urban centers, and particular urban artifacts, that are the components of urban form, affect the making towns as physical entities. It claims that all these factors and the town at their intersection, are in a continuous intercourse and they steadily transform each other. Hence, the thesis endeavors to highlight and corroborate the interrelation of trade roads, urban form, and components of urban form, in regional, urban, and in architectural scale. In so doing, first it studies each of the themes separately within the general framework of Western Anatolian urban centers and next associates them particularly through the in depth analysis of Tire. In these lines, this thesis is an effort to interconnect and integrate the varied scholarly disciplines of social, cultural, economic history, urban geography and particularly architectural history through the explorations on urban space in general. It is also an undertaking to reveal the development and transformation of the urban space concentrating particularly on medieval Western Anatolia.

Kognitiva stöd i köksmiljö : för personer med lindrig form av Alzheimers sjukdom / cognitive support in kitchen environments : for People With a Mild Form of Alzheimer´s Disease

Ågren, Lillemor January 2015 (has links)

En ny teknikkultur : äkthet i sociala medier / A New Technological Culture : Genuineness in social media

Wastring, Emma January 2015 (has links)
This thesis gives increased knowledge of how a digital artifact in social media might encourage genuineness, as an antithesis to profiling in order to create a balance between profiling and genuineness. The thesis treats the area of “ how and why we present ourselves in a certain way in social media”. This is understood and discussed with the help of two endpoints; profiling and genuinness in social media. The study also discusses the role of the designer in this context. The thesis explores the area through a literature, but also conduct its own study in the form of semi-structured group interviews. The study shows that stakeholders feels pressure to profiling from social media. Public areas seems to benefit profiling, while smaller context favors genuinness. When it comes to the form of communication it seems that profiling is favored from the forms of communication that come as far from the physically real meeting as possible, while the communicatonforms that provide the experiences similar to a physically real meeting is perceived to be the most genuine. The thesis suggests that an digital artefact in social media that aim to encourage genuinness should create a safe environment, where everything is not always for everyone and where the forms of communication that promotes genuinness is encouraged.
