The Trumpets

McKnight-MacNeil, Cameron Damar January 2008 (has links)
The work of my MFA thesis exhibition comes directly out of the physical processes that constitute my studio practice. It is work that embodies the labour of my hands and the decisions that guided them in their struggle with unfamiliar materials. Drawing inspiration from subjects as diverse as physics and fiction to create a sculptural arrangement, the work is intended to engage with its audience in an active way through acoustic appropriation and physical presence. As an artist, I set up an environment to be explored, establishing boundaries and also possibilities.

The Strategic Analysis of the Tourism Industry Development for Tourists from Mainland Area-the Practice of Tourism in the Southern Taiwan as An Example

Chung, Shao-ho 27 July 2005 (has links)
Abstract BA CHAN LI LU YUN HE YUE ¡]Like cloud-veiled moon the thousand-mile land disappears . From the tune of Yue Fei¡¦s ¡§The River All Red¡¨.¡^, a TV program that cooperated with the government¡¦s 1987 open policy ( Taiwan residents can visit their relatives on the mainland ) in the early days , reinforced the Taiwan People¡¦s desire for the historically blood-related Mainland China, and even accidentally attracted a huge amount of Taiwanese venture capital to help create a magnet for China¡¦s Tourism. Frankly, Taiwanese traveling groups made a praiseworthy achievement for the development and advancement of China¡¦s livelihood nowadays; that proves the importance of tourism industry in one country¡¦s the economic development. Even though the government finally adopted a loose policy that people of Mainland Area could make a detour to Taiwan, our economy is in great recession at the same time. However, the tiny income of tourism and the very few number of traveling groups are just like a flat ball. Nowadays, Taiwan¡¦s livelihood is highly in need of RenMinBi. People of Mainland Area¡¦s craze and familiarity for Taiwan is no less than of which the Taiwanese for the ¡§BA CHAN LI LU YUN HE YUE¡¨. If the tourism industry of Southern Taiwan, suffered the most from the decreasing economy, could rely on visitors from Mainland Area, Taiwan¡¦s economy could revive again. This research is applied through a series of academic studies, in-depth interviews and strategic analysis .First of all , over a long period of time serving in the central institution of public opinions, I am exposed to all kinds of public affairs and pleas. Therefore, the part of in-depth interviews is accumulated by my personal experiences throughout years. Secondly, the occasions of interviews vary from personal pleas, group pleas to public hearings. Finally, the above records are restricted within my personal notes, and therefore it¡¦s a great regret that I can not list all the relative records. As for the strategic analysis, the government reform in the recent years is influenced by the enterprise¡¦s efficiency, and amongst all, the enterprise¡¦s strategic analysis is also entrusted by the analysis of public policy. The strategic analysis applied in this research includes basic legal institutions, SWOT and Michael Porter¡¦s five forces. Because the development of strategy should be provide with some fixed level of resources, in this research I systematically classify Taiwan¡¦s software and hardware¡¦s terms to accommodate visitors from Mainland and foreign countries. As the discovery of this research, Taiwan will face these three challenges from visitors of Mainland Area whom would become the largest proportion of tourists : first of all , the policy and the vision is not clear enough so that the partnership between the government and the private industry is unable to attract tourists together; secondly, the laws can¡¦t match the practice which leads to the incorporation in this partnership; finally, the marketing can¡¦t entirely integrated with the management which result in the waste of resources. Synthesized the opinions of interviews, facing with all the Asian countries target tourists from Mainland China, our whole country should make concrete efforts to build up the matters concerned about the new tourism industry. The policy needs new goal and new though and demands immediate attention. In the related strategies, ¡§MICE¡¨ is affirmed by realizing the concept of ¡§SMILE¡¨. ¡§MICE¡¨ is composed by the four initials of ¢Ûeeting, Incentives, Conference and Exhibition. According to the denotation is the abbreviation of business conferences and exhibitions. Namely, if the government and the private industry can make use of all kinds of local or cultural distinguishing features and hold international and dynamic conferences and exhibitions. Besides promoting the revival of business affairs, the tourism revenues will be increased by intellectually customized traveling services. The impressive ¡§SMILE¡¨ is the five initials of Service, Market, Inno-value, Life and Employment , passed in the Executive Yuan Council of ¡§Guilding Principles of Service Industry ¡¨. According to the above statements, I suggest we should use ¡§MAI SHI WEI XIAO¡¨ to replace ¡§MICE¡¨ and ¡§SMILE¡¨ as a embedded Taiwanese local expression and succinct marketing objective , and to represent the smile¡¦s renaissance of seller¡¦s market. In conclusion, in the era of consumers¡¦ awareness awaking, a country or a city which is lack of natural resorts should employ the trend of ¡§Global Business Era¡¨ to hold all kinds of international conferences and exhibitions which bring the benefit of economic scale based on its advantages creating a niche market, and match up ¡§Differentiated Marketing Strategy¡¨ and ¡§Value-adding Marketing¡¨ to generate the maximum profit.

Onsal, Basak 01 December 2006 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis attempts to analyze the emergence of private art galleries in Turkey by focusing on specifically the three art galleries, namely Gallery Milar, Helikon Society&rsquo / s Gallery, and Society of Artlovers&rsquo / Gallery that were opened in Ankara during 1950s. To this aim, both the artistic movements and governmental policies regarding the artistic field are mentioned from a historical point of view. Interviews, analysis of relevant literature, examining periodical magazines, and daily newspapers constitute the main sources of data collecting. In conclusion, in the light of our findings it is decided that the formation of art market and emergence of art galleries in Turkey have quite different characteristics from the western example as a result of its own social, cultural and economic dynamics in the historical frame.

A Case In French Colonial Politics Of Architecture And Urbanism: Antioch And Alexandretta During The Mandate

Acikgoz, Umit Firat 01 September 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this study is to investigate characteristics of urban transformation in Antioch and Alexandretta during the French Mandate, 1920-1938. Contending that a purely formal analysis would fail to grasp complex politics of architecture and urbanism promoted by the French administration, this thesis seeks to explore the urban transformation of these cities in its political and representational context. In analyzing the French perception of the urban space especially in Antioch, this thesis devotes an extensive attention to the nineteenth century travelers who visited Antioch, by emphasizing the ways in which they described the urban make-up of the city. Moreover, it situates the case of Antioch and Alexandretta within the broader framework of French colonial architecture and urbanism by occassionally referring to French North Africa on the one hand, and other cities of the French Mandate in Syria and Lebanon on the other hand. Along with an analysis of the changing built environment in Antioch and Alexandretta, other visual and representational strategies such as the colonial exhibition, archeological works, scholarly endeavors, and tourism are discussed. It is the major premise of this thesis that a comprehensive portrayal of the architectural and urban transformation of these cities might be attained only through the inclusion of different forms of political and visual representation.

Carleklev, Jan January 2008 (has links)

munikationsmedium i utställningar.

ket i utställningen.

/
Sound is an interesting communication media that takes advantage of each persons individual ex-

perience and conceptions and allows for many individual associations. Today museums can choo-

se from a wide range of media (pictures, video, sound guides, computer and sound installations)

to communicate with their audience because a greater variety of technical solutions is available.

This paper has the goal to analys the possibilities of sound as a media of communication. The aim

is to shed light on this relativly unexplored field that I think has a lot of potential.

To narrow down my exploration, I have chosen to take a closer look at the exhibition Drömmens

syster that is shown at the Världskulturmuseet in Gothenburg, Sweden. I have interviewed some

key persons behind this exhibition to get an idea about the aim and I have interviewed a number

of visitors to get a better understanding of how they experienced the exhibition.

The exhibition Drömmens syster is about the more and more endangered people and their myths

who live close by the Orinoco river in Venzuela.

The conclusion from this essay shows that sound is a good media for communicating informa-

tion. It is especially well suited to involve the audience in an experience of rain forest and the

daily life around it. The museum suceeds several times to tell more by using sound than by just

using pictures. Visitors can gain from the calming effect of the waterfall and they can get thrilled

from the hiss of the snake. Therefor I sincerely hope that we are going to see more media con-

cepts in the future that use auditive communication.

Wikström, Karolin January 2015 (has links)
This is a study about the balance between freedom and structure in the information design of an exhibition based on hands-on education. Work is focused on the exhibition The Human Body at Tom Tits Experiment in Södertälje. The exhibition, which was built in 1997, was designed with the idea that signs create barriers and a reluctance to advertise about the "right way". The exhibition space has now been compressed and experiments have been grouped into two sections. In connection with this change, the signs in the exhibition come to be reviewed. This is because parents and other adult visitors expressed a desire for more information. The need for information is divided into labels for individual experiments and signage for the exhibition's theme. How this demand can be met without going against the pedagogy and aesthetics that Tom Tits believe is the central point of the work. The solution was based on the thesis that it is possible to gather information at one point to minimize the number of signs in the exhibition. Through methods as qualitative interviews, questionnaire survey and spatial analysis have an understanding of the complexity of the problem created. Which largely deals with the contrasts between the child's curiosity and the controlling adult world. The design solution that has been developed, resulting in three (instead of one) points where the focus has been on establishing the exhibition's theme and encourage interactivity. There has also been a quest for uniformity and flexibility, then the problem is not found to the current exhibition and information design throughout the house lacks a common thread. Whereupon consideration has been given to Tom Tits visual profile and the aesthetic that is seen as characteristic of the business. Studies circuits thus largely about Tom Tits, but it is hoped that the work interests a number of players, then a pursuit of general guidelines for the transmission of information have existed.
