“Framställs helt onyanserat som ett monster” : Hur kända svenska män som anklagats för sexualbrott porträtteras i media / “Presented completely outright like a monster” : How famous Swedish men accused of sexual crimes are portrayed in the media

Broström, Ina, Bråten, Alexandra, Tecsi, Sara January 2021 (has links)
This study analyzed newspaper articles written about five famous Swedish men who in recent years have been accused of different types of sexual crimes. These men were Paolo Roberto, Martin Timell, Göran Lambertz, Jean-Claude Arnault and Soran Ismail. The study’s purpose was to investigate how these famous Swedish men who have been accused of sexual crimes are portrayed in the media, and how this portrayal is related to the media's representation of the victims. The theories used to investigate these questions were Nils Christie's theory of Ideal Victims (1986), Yvonne Jewkes theory about Media and crime (2015), and David Gresham Matza's theory of Neutralization techniques (1957). By using a qualitative content analysis, the selection of material from four newspaper editors could be analyzed and coded, which resulted in a number of themes that contribute to the portrayal. The themes that could be identified were: the high status profile, denial of responsibility or victim, the sex offender, and the man as a victim. The analysis of these themes in relation to the theories and previous research shows that the media often emphasize the high status of these men, and the fact that they tend to reject responsibility by denying the existence of both causing harm and the existence of a victim. Furthermore, the men are also portrayed as sex offenders by giving the victims space to tell their story. Finally, the men themselves can be seen as victims mainly due to the media attention directed at them.

: A qualitative study about social workers experiences of the work with honor-related violence and oppression in social services

Allert, Astrid, Sjönneby, Sofia January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of the following study is to examine how the work is organized on a municipal level and what expertise social workers in different municipalities have about honor-related violence. The focus is on social workers experiences and reasoning about honor-related violence. The study has a qualitative research approach, and the purpose has been achieved by doing semi-structured interviews per telephone with social workers from 15 municipalities, divided into two regions. The collected data has been analyzed through a thematic analysis. The statements of the study participants have been interpreted with help from Michael Lipsky's theory about street-level bureaucracy and discretion and also by the terms culture essentialism and postcolonial theory.  The results show that in most of the municipalities the social workers have special skills about honor-related violence, though the skills are often directly linked to individual employees in the organization. It has also emerged how important knowledge is to be able to identify and to give the right support in honor-related cases. Common for the interventions social services are offering victims, families and perpetrators is that few of them are adjusted for honor-related issues. The interventions that are offered to victims seems to meet their needs of shelter although it comes with great personal sacrifices, therefore there is a need to develop and improve the interventions. Further there are split opinions about what the causes for honor-related violence are and within which groups it occurs. Some of the participants expresses that honor-related violence only occurs in certain cultures and groups, while other claims the opposite.

KÖNSSKILLNADER HOS FÖRÖVARE AV DÖDLIGT PARTNERVÅLD I RELATION TILL MOTIV OCH TILLVÄGAGÅNGSSÄTT

Bakirci, Yelda, Johansson, Josefine, Yuksel, Nathalie January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of the present study was to examine gender differences in motives and methods among perpetrators of lethal partner violence in heterosexual relationships. A quantitative design was used in this non-experimental cross-sectional study, in which data were collected from a sample of the legal cases of Swedish courts, also the legal cases of district courts, courts of appeal and the Supreme Court published in a judicial database. A sample of N = 49 legal cases were examined by means of a coding scheme, including n = 30 legal cases consisting of male perpetrators and n = 19 legal cases of female perpetrators. The obtained data were analyzed by using a chi-square test for independence. The results indicate that the gender of perpetrators in lethal partner violence was significantly related to motives for the lethal violence, in which prior exposure to intimate partner violence differed significantly between men and women, but not to methods of the lethal violence. Conclusions drawn from this study were that the motives for lethal partner violence differed because of the perpetrator's gender, while the methods of lethal partner violence were the same regardless of gender.

The Unideal Victim and Top Lawyer : A critical discourse analysis of the Göran Lambertz case in Swedish tabloids post #metoo.

Nguyen, Dennis, Bamba, Chadrac January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine Swedish press coverage of arape case post #metoo movement involving the former Chancellor of Justice, GöranLambertz. The research questions are as follows: How are the victim and thesuspected perpetrator portrayed in the articles? In what ways are rape mythsconstructed in the articles? How did journalists in Expressen and Aftonbladet framethis news story? Using a critical discourse analysis method with the help of previousstudies, representation, framing, ideal victim and news value theory showed theresults that both tabloids had similar portrayals of the participants involved with fewdifferent variations and both upheld rape myths in their reporting. In conclusion we found that the victims’ unfavorable characteristics such ascriminal background was highlighted while Göran Lambertz’ achievements andcareer were brought up. Expressen used an episodic framing for their reportingwhile Aftonbladet had a mix of episodic and thematic framing. Journalists fromboth tabloids participated in using semantic framing and linguistic choices thatseparated the suspected perpetrator from the crime.

Top lawyer, beast, medical student or irresponsible : A critical discourse analysis on the construction of female rape victims and male rapists in Aftonbladet, before and after the MeToo-movement.

Aldrin, Louise, Liljekvist, Amanda January 2022 (has links)
The MeToo movement has played a huge role in the society and the issue around gender equality around the world. 2017 the movement spread in USA due to women in the movie- and entertainment business speaking up about sexual harassements made by the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. The hashtag #MeToo spread quickly around the world and came to Sweden in the fall the same year which contributed to the debate about women’s equal rights in society. The aim of this qualitative study is, with a cirital discourse analysis (CDA), to see how the rape victims and their perpetrators constructs in Sweden’s biggest evening news media, Aftonbladet, before (2013) and after the movement's upturn (2021). This study only tends to see how the female rape victims and the male pertpetrators are constructed, this due to statistics showing that woman are most often falling victims of rape and that their perpetrators are most often men (Brottsförebygganderådet [BRÅ], 2020). The study has found several discourses, for instance that the rape victims often are constructed as ideal victims or gets blamed for the rape. The victim blaming often constructes with rapemyths, which can be connected with an ideology of rapeculture. In one specific case there has been found an ideology of feminism, where the text explicitly and implicitly speaks about the womens right and the patrialchal structure in the society. The perpetrators on the other hand are often constructed as either regretful, sympathetic or as a beast. There has been found unequal power relations where the perpetrator is most likely to be constructed as the most powerful actor. On the other hand no differences in the construction of the victim or the perpetrator have been found during the two years, before and after the movement.

All that glimmers is not gold : A stylistic analysis and comparison of Dagens Nyheter's depiction of serious violence in Sweden

Nieminen, Nilla January 2023 (has links)

Working with perpetrators of violence : A qualitative study on social workers' treatment work with men who use physical violence against woman in close relationships.

Lundstedt, Olivia, Bodström, Alva January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study is to identify development needs based on social workers' experience of treatment work with men who use physical violence against women in close relationships. Focusing on social workers' challenges in changing perpetrators behavior. The experiences of challenges relate to the time after the implementation of  the new Swedish law 2021, that states that social services must provide help and treatment for perpetrators. The support and treatment aimed at the perpetrators is therefore a relatively new area of work within the social services, even though it has been seen as an important part of combating domestic violence for a longer time. To achieve the aim we conducted qualitative interviews with social workers involved in treatment for the perpetrators of violence. Based on the answers of our respondents we identified three challenges with perpetrator treatment; group therapy, motivational work and follow-up work. We analyzed these three against our aim, issues, our chosen theoretical starting points and previous research. An important conclusion of the study is the importance of individualized treatment and that the three challenges above have also been identified as development needs. These development needs can be beneficial for the organization to focus more on, with the purpose to improve the treatment with perpetrators in close relationships.

Den dolda sidan av våld i nära relation / The hidden side of domestic violence

Dimura, Vasilika, Ramic, Hana January 2023 (has links)
Male victims of domestic abuse with women as perpetrators is not a common supposition and seems to be a topic which needs further attention. The purpose of our essay is therefore to investigate men's experiences of being abused by a woman in a romantic relationship. The survey aims to illustrate the men's own voices. The aim is also to illustrate the consequences of being a man and having a female perpetrator in a romantic relationship. The study was conducted through biographies, all written by men with experience of this essay's subject. The result is divided in three main themes: the experience of the abuse, shame and being a victim and a male at the same time. The most prominent results included men’s experiences of both physical and psychological abuse where they were a victim of violence by their female partner and suffered major injuries and endured many years of control, humiliation and violations. The results also presented consequences of being a male victim of domestic abuse which featured feelings of shame, fear of others acknowledging them as weak and not being accepted as a victim by society.

Både offer och förövare? : Offentliga publikationer om pojkar och unga män som lever i en hederskontext / Both victims and perpetrators? : Publications on boys and young men living in honor context

Esping, Ebba, Holmer, Ebba January 2023 (has links)
Honor-related violence and oppression are societal issues that are relevant to social work. However, it is an under-researched area with a lack of knowledge, especially regarding boys and young men in an honor context. The existing research primarily focuses on girls and women. The aim of this study was to describe the content of public publications regarding social work on honor-related violence and oppression in relation to boys and young men. The focus was to examine how boys and young men in an honor context are described as both victims and perpetrators. In addition to that, the study also aimed to investigate the interventions available for this target group. Thematic content analysis was used to address the research questions and objectives by analyzing and thematizing the content of public publications. The findings of this study indicate that boys and young men exist in dual roles as both victims and perpetrators, but more emphasis is often placed on their role as perpetrators rather than victims, as girls' and women's victimization is considered more extensive. Furthermore, the study suggests that there are few interventions specifically targeted at boys and young men living in an honor context. The available interventions mainly focus on victims. The results have been analyzed using power theory and street-levelbureaucracy theory. The analysis demonstrates that power is a central aspect in both an honor context and the practice of social work, and that the structure of street-level bureaucracy affects work with this target group. Therefore, this study concludes that more knowledge and work are needed regarding boys and young men in an honor context.

Ta det som en man! : En litteraturstudie om kvinnors våld mot män / Take it Like a Man! : A Literature Study on Women’s Violence against Men

Ha, Angela, Seferi, Argnesa January 2022 (has links)
This literature study aims to investigate women’s violence on men. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is well researched within the context of women as victims and men as perpetrators. However, men who fall victim to female-perpetrated IPV is not a known subject to the general public. The study will therefore study men as victims to IPV where women are perpetrators as well different types of violence such as psychological, physical, sexual and digital violence. Men’s experiences as victims of IPV will also touch on their help-seeking experiences which are affected by hegemonic masculinity, stigma and shame. This literature study has used a lot of empirical material that contains qualitative studies from different countries thus making it difficult to draw general conclusions. The purpose is however to discuss the subject in relation to different theories, highlights and understand men's experiences as victims of female-perpetrated IPV.
