Die aard van kommunikasie in ʼn sosiale betrokkenheidsprogram van die Studente-Jool-Gemeenskapsdiens (SJGD) : die Pick a leader- leierskapontwikkelingsprojek / Johanna Frederika Elizabeth BoshoffBoshoff, Johanna Frederika Elizabeth January 2013 (has links)
The North-West University (NWU) is an example of an organization that has a social responsibity towards the community and the environment within which it finds itself (Van Schalkwyk, 2013). One of the social responsibility programmes of the NWU-Pukke is known as the Students’ Rag Community Service (SRCS). The SRCS is a registered NPO (non-profit organization) which is run by the students of the NWU Potchefstroom Campus and which has been in existence since 1992 in its present form.
In this study it is argued that the SRCS developmental projects could be offered in a more effective and sustainable manner by implementing the basic principles of the participatory approach, viz. Participation, dialogue, empowerment and cultural identity in order to support the local communities in their developmental processes. For the present study the focus was solely on one of the SRCS projects, the Pick a leader-leadership development project. This project has the aim of providing in the developmental needs of ten to fifteen Grade 11 learners in three schools in the North West Province (Potchefstrom and the surrounding communities in Ikageng). Thus project participants (learners) are instructed in basic skills about starting their own businesses (entrepreneurship); how to develop their leadership skills and to apply these skills, and how to be able to use basic life skills in their everyday lives.
Various theoreticians have explained how NPO’s without participatory communication are seldom successful in terms of developmental initiatives. The learners can only develop if the relevant roleplayers of the project take ownership of the project by also being able to communicate in a participatory manner about their specific needs with both the NPO and the project volunteers. The NWU-Pukke volunteers, who manage this particular project, therefore have the responsibility to communicate in a participatory manner with the relevant learners, their teachers and then also the different principals to make the project succeed and to contribute to the realization of the developmental needs of the learners.
The general research aim of the study had been to determine the nature of the communication among interest groups in the Pick a leader-leadership development programme of the SRCS.
Qualitiative research methods, viz. Semi-structured interviews, focus group interviews and participant observation, were used in this study for purposes of making making a thorough investigation into the nature of the communication among those involved in the Pick a leader leadership development programme. The purpose of this was to determine perspectives about the project held by the persons involved (but especially those of the learners) and to interpret these in line with the normative theoretical principles of the participatory approach to developmental communication.
It was ultimately found that the communication in the Pick a leader-leadership development programme was mostly one-way. / MA (Communication Studies), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Consumer protection in international electronic contracts / C. ErasmusErasmus, Christo January 2011 (has links)
Since the Internet became available for commercial use in the early 90s, the way of
doing business was changed forever. The Internet and electronic commerce have
allowed people to carry out business by means of electronic communications, which
makes it possible for them to do business and to conclude contracts with people
situated within foreign jurisdictions. The need for consumer protection in electronic
commerce has become necessary because of the misuse of aspects peculiar to
electronic–commerce. Consumers have been cautious to make use of electroniccommerce,
as they are uncertain about the consequences that their actions might
have. Consumers will only utilise e–commerce if they have confidence in the legal
system regulating it; therefore, legislation was needed to regulate their e–commerce
activities. In 2002, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 was
introduced into South African law as the first piece of legislation that would deal
exclusively with electronic communications. Chapter VII of this particular act deals
exclusively with consumer protection and seeks to remove certain uncertainties
imposed by e–commerce. This is done by providing the South African consumer with
statutory rights and obligations when engaging in electronic communications. The
Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008 is the most recent piece of legislation that aims
to promote a consistent legislative and enforcement framework relating to consumer
transactions and agreements. South African legislation dealing with electronic
commerce is relatively recent, and it is uncertain whether consumers are offered
sufficient protection when they conclude contracts with suppliers or sellers from a
foreign jurisdiction, that is, one that is situated outside South Africa.
After looking at the protection mechanisms in place for South African consumers
engaging in e–commerce, we have seen that there are certain problems that one
might experience when trying to determine the applicability of some of the consumer
protection measures to international electronic contracts. Most of the problems that
we have identified are practical of nature. Consumers may, for instance, find it hard
to execute their rights against foreign suppliers in a South African court, even if the
court has jurisdiction to adjudicate the matter. Another problem that we identified is
that some of the important terms in our legislation are too vaguely defined. Vague terms and definitions can lead to legal uncertainty, as consumers might find it hard to
understand the ambit of the acts, and to determine the applicability thereof on their
transactions. In order to look for possible solutions for South Africa, the author
referred to the legal position with regards to consumer protections in the United
Kingdom, and saw the important role that European Union legislation plays when
determining the legal position regarding consumer protection in the UK. The
legislation in the UK dealing with consumer protection is far more specific than the
South African legislation dealing with same. There is definitely consumer protection
legislation in place in South Africa but the ongoing technological changes in the
electronic commerce milieu make it necessary for our legislators to review consumer protection legislation on a regular basis to ensure that it offers sufficient protection
for South African consumers engaging in international electronic contracts. / Thesis (LL.M. (Import and Export Law))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2012.

A gestalt approach in using music with the emotionally traumatized childJoseph, Rowena Yasmin 30 June 2004 (has links)
Many of the sources indicated in this work are classical and not updated due to the fact that the origins of Gestalt Philosophy are found in classical works / Verskeie van die geraadpleegde bronne in die literatuurhoofstukke verteenwoordig klassieke werke wat nie binne die erkende periode vir relevante wetenskaplike navorsing val nie. The Gestalt approach was used as the contextual framework to explore how music can be used as a therapeutic medium in the treatment of the emotionally traumatized child.
Music as a sensory experience was used during the therapeutic process with each case study, to facilitate the child's process towards healing. The conceptual framework of music as a therapeutic medium was researched in depth to bring clarity to the influence it has on the emotional well-being of the child.
The child who entered into therapy was selected according to specific criteria, with the experience of emotional trauma being priority. The researcher also studied the concept of emotional trauma in depth and the consequences it has on a child's overall functional ability.
Music was used as an expressive technique during the therapeutic process with each child. The conclusion drawn from this study indicated that the gestalt approach can be applied effectively in using music as a therapeutic medium in the treatment of the emotionally traumatized child.
Hierdie sensoriese ervaring is
bestudeer.
Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M.Diac. (Play Therapy)

Summaries in English and Afrikaans / This research explores the potential value for the application of the visual expressionistic arts, as well as the application of forensic art for the emancipation of victims of violent crime. Qualitative research methods are used in order to make certain assumptions and recommendations for the application of the forensic arts in the emancipation of traumatized victims. The research is based on the view that human behaviour is influenced by different internal and external contextual influences. The theoretical basis for the research is further supported by the grounding principals of the psycho-analytic, symbolic interactionistic and the phenomenological theoretical approaches. The potential for the application of the forensic arts during crisis intervention and trauma counselling as a therapeutic technique and a communication medium are investigated. The potential forensic value of the victims’ art for the criminal justice system is also explored during the research.
Criminology and Security Science / M.A. (Criminology)

Veranderingsbestuur in 'n welsynsorganisasie / Change management in a welfare organisationPienaar, J. J. (Jacobus Johannes) 11 1900 (has links)
is onderneem.
The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of the process of change on the
functioning of a welfare organisation. A literature and empirical study was done. Research
showed that reasons for change were primarily of an external kind, that a high percentage
of respondents not always understand the necessity or reasons for change, and that most
of the respondents experienced the communication channels and information not always
as open and clear. The research shows that motivation of ground level social workers by
managers must under no circumstances be under-estimated. The way in which
information was given, was experienced positively, but workers needed more support with
it from management. During the research a limited degree of resistance was further
found. Resistance experienced by workers became less when they were part of the
process, are prepared for change, their security not threatened and the reasons for
change are known to them. / Social Work / M. Diac. (Maatskaplike Werk-rigting)

Literatuur beklemtoon
is. / This research aims to establish whether leadership has an effect on change in a not-for-profit
organisation. A literature and empirical study were conducted. Literature indicated that change in
organisations is a reality and that organisations need to appoint change agents in order to facilitate
the change process. Research has shown that change in not-for-profit organisation was caused by
external influences and indicated that confusion exists as to whom the role and responsibility of
change agent belongs to. Respondents indicated that they were generally positive about the
frequency and way in which change was communicated but they indicated both positive and
negative behavioral reactions to change. The transformational leadership style is highlighted as
the best leadership style to manage change. The transformational leadership style with leadership
behavior such as integrity, approachability and objectivity motivates respondents to participate in
the change process. Research also indicated that respondents have leadership potential and have
a need for leadership development. This study confirmed that leadership has an effect on change in a not-for-profit organisation. / Social Work / M.Diac. (Maatskaplike Werk-rigting)

Tweedimensionele stilbeelde in 'n multimediapakket in tersiêre afstandsonderrig : didaktiese riglyneBlignaut, Ernst Philippus 11 1900 (has links)
Summaries in Afrikaans and English / The transformative mission of the White Paper on Education (1995: 19) states that the South
African education system is moving towards a single, national, non-racial system where all
people are offered equil opportunities. Demographic and other changes make particular
demands on the education system. The HSRC (1987:54) claim that distance edcation is
increasingly viewed as a possible solution for educational problems.
The literature study aims to motivate, from an andragogic-didactical perspective, the use of
two-dimensional silent images in study material.
A literature study was also undertaken on the perception of silent images and the elements
involved in the perception of depth, movement, size, colour, etc., from which certain didactic
guidelines were deducted with a view to the design of silent images.
The ability of distance education students to identify the elements above, was emperically
researched. The validity of the didactic guidelines were verified in this phase.
geveri fireer. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Didaktiek)
