Using Suction for Laminar Flow Control in Hypersonic Quiet Wind Tunnels: A Feasibility Study

Phillip Portoni (7399604) 16 October 2019 (has links)
<div>To reduce the risk of using suction in a hypersonic quiet-tunnel nozzle design, this project tested micro-perforated suction sections to remove the boundary layer on an axisymmetric model in the Boeing/AFOSR Mach-6 Quiet Tunnel. The model was a cone-flare geometry tested at 0° angle of attack. The turn from the 7° half-angle cone to the flare was designed to prevent flow separation. The flare was designed to amplify the Görtler instability.</div><div><br></div><div>Five suction sections were designed with different perforation patterns and porosities. Four were successfully manufactured, but only the first of the four sections has been tested so far. The first suction section has pores drilled along straight lines with a nominal 5% porosity.</div><div><br></div><div>Measurements were made with temperature-sensitive paint and oil-flow visualization on a non-perforated blank to measure the baseline development of Görtler vortices on the flare. Although the signal-to-noise ratio of the measurement techniques were insufficient to measure the vortices, it was confirmed that the boundary layer is laminar for the entire model. Measurements with suction also did not show the Görtler vortices.</div><div><br></div><div>Surface pressure fluctuations were measured on the flare. Apparent second-mode waves were detected. The suction measurements showed a slight increase in second-mode peak frequency over the baseline results, as expected.</div><div><br></div><div>Concerns had been raised about acoustic noise that might be radiated from the suction section. Thus, fluctuations above the suction section were measured using a pitot probe and using focused-laser differential interferometry. The measurements during suction showed no noticeable increase in fluctuations compared to the baseline results.</div>

: - om svårigheten att bemöta barns behov av lugn och ro i den moderna förskolemiljön / Shuld it be so hard to take it easy for a while? : about the difficulty of meeting the children´s need for peace and quit in the modern preschool environment

Fredriksson, Annika January 2013 (has links)
In my essay I describe the open environment, with a modern and innovative way of work that is becoming more and more common in preschools. In the new modern preschool the indoor environments are becoming more open to create an increased interaction and learning between the children. The science of education says that the pedagogue shall create environments and inspire the children to search their own knowledge, but according to me this is a something that causes problems for some children. Many children have difficulties to adapt to the large group of children and are characterized as "messy" since they are unable to sort all the perception they are exposed to. I experience that children with concentration disabilities are becoming more and more common at preschools and that it is caused by the environments they are situated in. The purposes of my essay is to investigate how the environment can be the cause of a restless behavior and how I, as a pedagogue, can give them the opportunity to easier find peace in a preschool which doesn’t have any separate rooms. By reflecting over my pedagogical attitude I find that not all children can be met the same way. For every children to experience a calm and safe learning environment at preschool, it is necessary that we pedagogues have knowledge about how flexible rooms, everyday stress and large groups of children can effect the concentration of learning for the child.

Tysta barn : Pedagogers erfarenheter och bemötande av tysta elever i skolan / Quiet children at school : Teachers’ experience and treatment of quiet children at school

Eriksson, Anna-Karin January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how teachers describe the experience of dealing with quiet students at school based on their communicative and linguistic abilities. With the help of qualitative semi-structured interviews with four practicing teachers in primary school the study presents how the teachers describe how they treat quiet students in a school environment and how they describe adapting their own teaching to improve the quiet students´ communication and linguistic abilities. From a phenomenological perspective have the interviews interpreted and analyzed with the intention of highlighting teachers' descriptions of their experiences, responses and adaptations. One conclusion of this study is that teachers feel that quiet students silently depends on the situation. It may depend on the size of the group or the environment. Another finding that emerged was that the teachers felt that it was important to create a safe learning situation to get the best conditions, especially for the silent students. The teachers also described the different approaches they use in order to assess students' oral abilities. The study also revealed that the teachers´ ambitions to create good teaching situations was not obtained without obstacles. These obstacles mainly generated from an organizational perspective.

Icke-verbal kommunikation, det värdefulla verktyget : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om körledares uppfattningar om och arbetet med begreppet icke-verbal kommunikation / Nonverbar communication, a most valuable tool : A qualitative interview study of conducturs perspectiv on the term nonverbal communication

Antonér, Jakob January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the conductors' perceptions of and work with non-verbal communication with choir performance. The background chapter describes previous research and literature on nonverbal communication. The results of the study came through three unstructured interviews, where three choir conductors reflected over the term non-verbal communication and how they apprehend the concept. The theoretical perspective underlying this study is the interpretative hermeneutic perspective. The results show that conductors use different non-verbal communication methods in their work with choir. The non-verbal communications that the choir leaders, among other things use are the piano, the voice, but they also how reflect over hos sheet music can be interpreted. It is also apparent that the three conductors have different views on conducting. The conductor’s thoughts rang from that conducting is a bad thing and should be used sparingly. Whilst other say that conducting is the most important tool and should not be neglected. In the conclusion, the results are discussed in relation to previous research and literature.

Sala de descanso em empresas de telemarketing e qualidade de vida / Quiet room in telemarketing and quality of life

Victor Hugo de Almeida 16 October 2008 (has links)
(CAPES/CNPq) / To systematize the production, increase productivity, eliminate costs and save time, companies has joined to telemarketing, the main activity outsourced in Brazil and one of the largest employers in the country (665 thousand teleoperators). However, occupational diseases are common in this context, motivating firms to seek resources in this own workplace, such as the implementation of a quiet room for its employees, to mut the newly approved Anexo II, of the Norma Regulamentadora 17 (rule), wich established the obligatory completion of break for meal/rest off workplace. This study aimed to check, next to the teleoperators and supervisors of telemarketing, the use, for teleoperators, of the quiet room implemented in the company and its opinions about relation between use and removal for reason of health, proposing an intersection between Environmental Psychology and Enviromental Labour Law. There was a pilot study with 15 teleoperators (ten women and five men) and a lawyer of the company, resulting in some changes in the final questionnaire for teleoperators. Participated on the survey, out of the company and expediency of work, 80 teleoperators: 48 women and 32 men; 56% between 18-25 years; 73% single; 59% of the turn morning/morning-late; 74% without or taking higher level, with 39% of indications of complete average education and 35% of incomplete higher education; between 2004-2007, 56% had started in the activity of telemarketing and 60% joined the company in wich they work. Three male supervisors had also participated, between 26-28 years, higher level complete, turn morning/late-morning, two singles and one married, recruited between 2000-2001. The results showed no significant differences between the teleoperators (sex/shift of work) and had showed that: (1) 97% of the teleoperators and all the three supervisors had considered the activity partially or fully shessful; (2) during short breaks, 71% of the teleoperators had indicated the frequent use of the cafeteria, also indicated for the three supervisors; (3) the majority of the teleoperators never uses the quiet room, either before (50%), during (43%) or after hours of work expedient (74%); (4) when the use of the room, activities were held more relaxing (indicated by 40% of the teleoperators) and interaction (indicated by 29% of the teleoperators and two supervisors); (5) 54% of the teleoperators has never moved away for health reason, however two supervisors had indicated frequent removals and one, sometimes; (6) 84% of the teleoperators and two supervisors had indicated the influence of the use of the quiet room in health; (7) 67% of the teleoperators and all the supervisors had judged necessary or relevant the implementation of politics of health in the company, to stimulate use of the quiet room and reduce injuries by occupational diseases. In conclusion, although the results showing the non-use by teleoperators of the quiet room, which had the many factors (environmental, personal, cultural, social, economic, etc.), the participants had considered it excellent for the health of the worker, suggesting the need to reflect about this space and the organization of the work, in compliance with the suggestions of participants, such as the need for recreation and interaction, activities no common on the rigid and heavy context of telemarketing.

Löfgren, Mikaela January 2020 (has links)
In this scientific essay I reflect on the relationship that emerges between teacher and student. It is also about the well known superpower that is called adhd and how my own adhd is beeing expressed and manifested throughout my work as a teacher. I reflect on whether my adhd helps or overturns my students and how deep the relationships between teachers and students can be shaped. The main purpose of this essay is to deepen the understanding of the complexity that belongs to the relationship between teacher and student. What I am particularly interested in is the question of what role my adhd has for my opportunities to create good relationships with students with the same diagnosis. The questions I based on are how big of a meaning the experiences have given me with my adhd about the building of relationships but also the relationships with my students? How important are the relationships between a teacher and a student? How deep can a relationship be? Has my ADHD given me an increased understanding of working with students with the same diagnosis? The method I have used is to write an essay, which means that I research and reflect on my own actions and what I may have done differently. By writing this essay, I aim to capture my experiences and reflect on them. This through previous research and literature that deals with my subject. The most important result I came to in my study is that the meaning of the relationship is of great importance in the work with students with ADHD. My own ADHD diagnosis is a big part of creating relationships and deepening them. My ADHD gives me an increased understanding of students with the same diagnosis. Creating the relationship between teacher and student is inevitable and that they become deep and private does not always have to be wrong. A large part of my experience Is that i can connect to my quiet and practical knowledge. Nyckelord: Adhd, relationer, förståelse, metoder, praktisk kunskap, tyst kunskap.

“the magic trick of the movie” : En audiovisuell analys av scener ur filmen A Quiet Place (2018)

Alderman, Joan January 2020 (has links)

Characterization of the Quiet Flow Freestream and a Flat Plate Model in the Boeing/AFOSR Mach 6 Quiet Tunnel

Derek V Mamrol (11711882) 22 November 2021 (has links)
<div>The ambient pressure fluctuations within a wind tunnel test environment can severely affect the boundary layer transition witnessed on test articles The Boeing/AFOSR Mach 6 Quiet Tunnel was designed to minimize these fluctuations, also referred to as noise, and is the world's premier facility for studying hypersonic boundary layer transition in a quiet flow environment. All experiments performed for this work were conducted at this facility.</div><div><br></div><div> </div><div> The freestream flow field of this tunnel has been characterized multiple times since its creation, however an extensive three-dimensional spatial sweep has never been conducted. A pitot rake model was designed to allow for an extensive spatial survey of tunnel noise. This model created measurement capabilities that were previously unknown to the BAM6QT facility, including the ability to take concurrent freestream pitot probe measurements. The performance of this new measurement method was evaluated, and suggestions for future verification tests are made. The pitot rake appears to suffer from probe-probe interactions in certain configurations, and has demonstrated variation in measurements that depends on the individual sensor used.</div><div><br></div><div> </div><div> This new measurement apparatus was used to investigate the effect that cavities in the tunnel wall created by the installation of new optical windows had on the freestream noise level. A control dataset corresponding to a perfectly conformal tunnel wall was not collected during this work. The experiments conducted provide evidence that the tunnel wall cavities do increase the noise downstream of their location by approximately 100%, however a control dataset is needed to verify this finding.</div><div><br></div><div> </div><div> In addition to tunnel characterization, a novel flat plate model was evaluated for use in the BAM6QT. This model was intended for use as a platform for observing second mode instability growth. These experiments show that the initial flat plate geometry proved incompatible with the BAM6QT as the tunnel could not achieve nominal flow conditions with the model installed. The flat plate model was streamlined to rectify the startup issue, but no evidence of the second mode instability was found. A 2.5° half angle cone is being designed to replace the flat plate model as a platform for the continuation of this project.</div>

Förskollärares planerade undervisning och tysta kunskap i hållbar utveckling : Utifrån hållbar utvecklings tre dimensioner, ekologi, ekonomi och sociala relationer / Preschool teachers' planned teaching and quiet knowledge of sustainable development : Based on sustainable development's three dimensions, ecology, economics and social relations

Nygård, Karin January 2020 (has links)
This study is designed to elucidate and explain sustainable development based on the three dimensions that should be taken into account in preschool activities, they are ecology, social relations and economics. This is based on the preschool teachers' planned teaching but also from the silent knowledge they convey to the children. In the study, non-participant observations are used as the data collection method and the data is then worked through grounded theory to arrive at a result. It is clear that sustainable development is a concept that is actively worked on in preschools today. But it is evident that the silent knowledge that preschool teachers possess and pass on to the children, is difficult to discover for commoners and that it is therefore generally not taken in when considering sustainable development in all dimensions.

Tichá revoluce. Proměna identity frankofonního Québecu. / Quiet revolution: Transformation of the Francophone Identity of Quebec

Denemark, Jan January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis is covering Québec's policy and Quebec's change of identity from the era of the Quiet revolution. This work covers the changes that were a crucial in the creation of Québec's policy and national identity. From the time of the Quiet revolution in the 60's of the 20th century the society in Québec came through a drastic identity change. And not only in the province itself but also in the whole country of Canada. Because of this change, Québec refused the Canadian policy of multiculturalism. Canadian official policy does not accept Québec as a distinct society and also refuses the principle of the two-nation Canada. Therefore, Québec created its own policy of integration called interculturalism. In the analysis of the development of identity and nationalism, the methodology is a critical examination of the empirical experiences of Québec and the theses of the theoretical concepts of Charles Taylor and Will Kymlicka. It was necessary to study Taylor's and Kymlicka's theses on multiculturalism, identity, communitarianism, and liberalism as a starting point for analyzing the development of Québec. It was important to formulate definitions of identity, nation, and multiculturalism, to determine the main categories of content, and to analyze the development of the Québec identity during...
