In 1351 Jean le Long d’Ypres, abbot of Saint-Bertin in Saint-Omer, translated six works concerning the East and the knowledge of the Asiatic continent, namely of the Mongol Empire (Hayton, Odorico da Pordenone, Wilhelm von Boldensele, Lettres de Togon Temür, De statu). I studied and published the translation of Riccold de Monte di Croce’s Liber peregrinationis. The Florentine Dominican friar travelled from the Holy Land to Turkey, Armenia and Bagdad (he lived there for ten years) between 1288 and 1300. In the first part, I have studied the Latin text, its manuscript tradition and his reception; I added a study on the two Italian translation made in the 14th century. In the second part, I have studied the French translation. Six manuscript and a 16th century print transmit the six Jean le Long’s translation. The philological study and the manuscript tradition show two ways of circulation: one way concerning the Picard bourgeois, the other one concerning the French aristocrats (Jean the Fearless, Jean duke of Berry, Charles duke of Orleans; one of these manuscripts also contains Jean d’Arras’ Roman de Mélusine). The linguistic analysis, the traductological and the lexicological study (regionalisms, orientalism and rare words) allow me to affirm that Jean le Long has “mis en roman” the six Latin texts, few years before the redaction of Jean de Mandeville’s Livre des merveilles (1356). Finally, I prepared the critical edition of the Latin source and of its French translation, followed by a critical apparatus and a glossary.

Les relations extérieures du Parlement écossais : 1999-2007 / The external relations of the Scottish Parliament : 1999-2007Aliyeva Potier, Elmira 28 June 2013 (has links)
The focus of my dissertation is the external action of the Scottish Parliament. My study identifies the operational capacity of this institution within the British institutional system, on the European Union arena and in international relations. I have identified the factors structuring the parliamentary action that shaped three poles such as the British Isles, Europe and outside the geographic European space. The pole of Europe covers both Continental Europe and the EC institutional environment. I have also identified the specialisation of methods and tools of action within the above mentioned poles

A construção do território. Abstração e natureza nas obras de Luis Barragán, Álvaro Siza e Tadao Ando / Construction of the territory. Abstraction and nature in the works of Luis Barrágan, Álvaro Siza and Tadao AndoJuan Pablo Rosenberg 07 June 2016 (has links)
This study proposes a reading of architectural poetics on the works of Luis Barragán, Alvaro Siza and Tadao Ando, departing from the link that each of them establish on the binomal construction-nature. Considering among their productions the emblematic projects of such a relationship, we can find pure architectonic places (HUET, 1979) that restore the ontological character of the discipline, evoking, through this last frontier of architecture, universal issues of the human existence. In the dialogue they propose between place and modern synthesis, those \"site constructions\" thus reveal rather than critic positions, but basic and primordial disquietudes - or obsessions - from their creators. Those disquietudes become concrete in the phenomenological experience of the place, in the very same \"dematerialization\" of architecture.Barragán, in Los Clubes (1964-1968) - Cuadra San Cristóbal and Fuente de los Amantes -, imposes sharp contrasts to the landscape to then dissolve them in a \"fantastic reality\" that consummates the unlikely match between catholic faith and erotic desire; in Leça da Palmeira Swimming Pool, Siza tells, by a \"technical speech\", the return of Man towards Nature, in a liturgic procedure that undoes, between the city and the beach, the concrete wall into sand and stone; on the Water Temple, Tadao Ando establishes a path from the profane towards the sacred - from the occidental reasoning to the oriental spirituality -, through the symbolic transmutation of the form along radically available spaces (Ma). Each chapter individually circumscribes one architect and his work through three sequential proxies: it begins with the impressions obtained in site visits; then goes through a genealogy of the imagination and the formation of the language; and closes the circle returning to the project, aproached through the drawings and data collected during the research. The goal then, is to create a bridge between the project intentions and the expression of the work, to identify, along this path, the poetic architectural resources that were used. In the conclusion, horizontal crossings are created between different expressions of those resources on the constructions - pathway, wall, water, light etc. - as a way to try to contribute to the poetic lexicon of the discipline.

Previous issue date: 2010-01-11 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This study addresses the current trend of new regional international blocks creation from the point of view of the experience of the Southern African Development Community Comunidade para o Desenvolvimento da África Austral (SADC). We intend to understand its historical development, politic-economics dynamics on the challenges and opportunities for continuous developing and consolidation of this regional block, within regional and continental context. We argue that the past of cooperation between region States and the emergence of the Southern African Development Coordination Conference Conferência de Coordenação para o Desenvolvimento da África Austral (SADCC) was largely in response to trends of South Africa political and economic domination based on its domestic and regional policy of apartheid and on the alliances inserted in the Cold War. While the SADC emerges as an economic-commercial approach than politics, in light of regional challenges and that of the new international order, whose answers are based on regional integration. The study aims to contribute to the understanding of the past and present cooperation and integration in Southern Africa. The approach includes the period from 1980 to 2008 / Este trabalho aborda a atual tendência à constituição de novos blocos de integração regional a partir do ponto de vista da experiência da Southern African Development Community Comunidade para o Desenvolvimento da África Austral (SADC). La dimension juridique de l’intégration régionale des pays d’Asie du Sud-Est : intégration et ordre juridique international : le cas de l’ASEAN / The legal dimension of the regional integration of Southeast Asian countries : integration and international legal order : the case of ASEANDupouey, Jacques 10 October 2016 (has links)
The countries located in Southeast Asia have, very soon, during the postcolonial period, foreseen to regroup to forming a regional organization named “ASEAN” (Association of nations of Southeast Asia). We would like to address the concept of economic regional integration from a legal perspective based on the example of ASEAN. This will in particular lead us to distinguish such a concept with other terms similar or very closed, such as regionalism, regionalization and economic cooperation. What are the features of regional integration? What are its manifestations? Despite all the diversity of regional organizations the purpose of which is to build an economic integration within a specific region, what are the common features that a lawyer can observe? How to reveal the ASEAN regional organization through the economic integration process it has launched and strategies chosen by it? What are its peculiarities? What are the challenges it has to face to achieve its integration goals through the following three dimensions: the ASEAN Economic Community, the ASEAN Political &Security Community, and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community? What external support can ASEAN receive to strengthen its regional integration process? Southeast Asian countries look for a closer proximity between themselves on the basis of intergovernmentality and with the deep concern of recognition and protection of their sovereignty that lead to favor Soft law more than hard law in decision-making production. Our approach will be well differentiated from those adopted so far by the economists and political scientists or experts in international relations and will not be reductive to a Eurocentric viewpoint. The main features and the internal dimension of the ASEAN will be addressed in a first part, while the second part will be devoted to the external dynamic of the economic integration of the ASEAN based on a selective choice of partnerships (EU, free trade agreements, Asian Development Bank, APEC).

Réflexions dans la perspective de la "New Haven School of International Law" / The interrelations between the "three sisters" and sanitary and phytosanitary measures of ASEAN : what future for human dignity ? Reflection from a new haven school of international law perspectiveWongkaew, Thitirat 18 December 2015 (has links)
New Haven School of International Law ». / The « three sisters », namely the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), and SPS measures of ASEAN maintain a mutually close relationship and can interact with one another in complex and multidimensional ways, which can affect flows of import and export activities of agro-food products regulated especially by international economic law. By perceiving law as a process of decisions, and particularly international law as a process of communication among different participants of the « world community », these interactions can be better identified and comprehended at all levels : multilateral, regional, bilateral and national. Considering the intensity and frequency of exchanges and the strong interdependency of today’s world, the « three sisters » and their standards, guidelines and recommendations are likely to play numerous roles in promoting a greater production and wider distribution of fundamental values that all human beings desire to maximize and achieve, as defended by the « New Haven School of International Law ». Not only are these roles related to the promotion of a more efficient process of eliminating trade barriers deriving from SPS protectionist measures, but also those which are insufficiently highlighted, yet becoming more obvious through repeated practices of ASEAN decision-makers. These are notably the roles of the « three sisters » as performance drivers for monitoring mechanisms of SPS measures with a view to ensuring that they are reasonable in each specific context and respectful towards human dignity; as catalysts of open regionalism ; as promoters of the development dimension in regional trade agreements concluded by ASEAN.

Outside traditional book publishing centres : the production of a regional literature in Western AustraliaHenningsgaard, Per Hansa January 2008 (has links)
This thesis provides a study of book publishing as it contributes to the production of a regional literature, using Western Australian publishing and literature as illustrative examples of this dynamic. 'Regional literature' is defined in this thesis as writing possessing cultural value that is specific to a region, although the writing may also have national and international value. An awareness of geographically and culturally diverse regions within the framework of the nation is shown to be derived from representations of these regions and their associated regional characteristics in the movies, television and books. In Australia, literature has been the primary site for expressions of regional difference. Therefore, this thesis analyses the impact of regionalism on the processes of book production and publication in Western Australias three major publishing houses a trade publishing house (Fremantle Press), an Indigenous publishing house (Magabala Books), and an academic publishing house (University of Western Australia Press). Book history, print culture studies and publishing studies, along with literary studies and cultural studies, roughly approximate a disciplinary map of the types of research that constitute this thesis. By examining regional literature in the context of its 'field of cultural production', this thesis maintains that regionalism and regional literature can avail themselves of a fresh perspective that shows them to be anything but marginal or exclusive. Regionalism has been a topic of peripheral interest, at least as far as scholarly research and academia are concerned, because those who are most likely to be affected by and thus interested in the topic, are also those who are most disempowered as a result of its attendant dynamics. However, as this thesis clearly demonstrates, access (or a lack thereof) to the field of cultural production (which in the case of print culture includes writers, literary agents, editors, publishers, government arts organisations, the media, schools, book clubs, and book retailers, just to name a few) plays a significant role in establishing and shaping an identity for marginalised 3 constituencies. The implications for this research are far-ranging, since both Western Australia and Australia can be understood as peripheries dominated in their different spheres (the 'national' and the 'international', respectively) by literary cultures residing elsewhere. Furthermore, there are parallels between this dynamic and the dynamic responsible for producing postcolonial literatures. The three publishing houses detailed in this thesis are disadvantaged by many of the factors associated with their distance from the traditional centres of book publishing, while at the same time producing a regional literature that serves as a platform from which the state broadcasts its distinctive contributions to the cultural landscape and to a wider understanding of concepts such as space, place and belonging. These publishing houses changed the way in which Australians and others have come to know and think about 'Australia', re-routing public consciousness and the national imagination.
