Assessment of user satisfaction of restrooms with existing toilet fixtures and new low consumption fixturesVankamamidi, Neelima Raman 15 November 2004 (has links)
This research in Langford Building 'A', Texas A&M University, is an attempt to determine the user satisfaction of the new, low consumption toilet fixtures and lavatory valves. 253 surveys were given to the subjects, during the four phases of upgrading the restroom fixtures, to find and compare user satisfaction in each phase. The four phases were:
1. The as-is condition of the flush valves and the lavatory valve.
2. Low consumption manual flush valve and low consumption manual lavatory valve.
3. Old style low consumption automatic flush valve and low consumption
automatic lavatory valve.
4. Low consumption manual flush valve and low consumption automatic lavatory valve.
The survey analysis for the building showed a positive response from the users for the low consumption valves, but not for the automatic valves, as they did not function as they were expected to.

A Paris Afternoon Or A WartMills, Ryan Edward 04 June 2015 (has links)
This collection contains poems written between September 2013 and March 2015. In that time, the author has ceased to wear deodorant for apolitical reasons (no fear of cancer from those wonderfully smelling sticks!), has been to foreign countries at least twice, taken looks at carcasses rotting in the streets of the devastatingly wonderful Sonoran Desert, and often pondered why parking garage security guards do not let childish adults linger in their sheltered emptiness. All things necessary for creating horrible poems of boredom, loneliness and reflections on the picking of boogers. It is strange how the accumulation of years in a body's life continually widens the so-called mind's eye, especially for one who is interested in writing things down. A writer walking through the dream of life and inventing its reality. Truly life is an awful experience, but sometimes there are a lot of people out in the sun enjoying a fine spring day and a fly lands on your hand (and you know it's pooping on you) but in that little creature and that little moment there is contained all the love in and for the world which can cause a smile to bring out that one little dimple on a handsome face. Sometimes we like Sunflowers with our torture, and that is just fine. Sometimes we feel more alone being among happy partygoers and sometimes the Red and Green Apples in the grocery store sexually arouse us; these are the moments the poems contained in this collection were birthed from. The cost-effectiveness of retrofitting sanitary fixtures in restrooms of a university buildingHwang, Byoung Hoon 30 September 2004 (has links)
This study measured the actual water consumption of sanitary fixtures installed in restrooms of a university building while most studies have been based on the manufacturer's reported flow rate. Furthermore, this study analyzed the appropriateness of retrofitting with low-consumption water closets and urinals based on the actual water consumption.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the cost-effectiveness of water savings from retrofitting water closets and urinals in restrooms of the Langford Architecture building A at Texas A&M University. The researcher directly measured the actual water-volume per flush of as-is, tune-up, low-consumption manual, and low-consumption automatic water closets and urinals. The data collected by these observations was analyzed, and the researcher evaluated the water savings of retrofitting water closets and urinals.
Finally, this study provides the actual water-consumption data of sanitary fixtures and proves that retrofitting with low-consumption fixtures can save on water costs. The results will present practical standards to facility managers and other building professionals and will also contribute to determining the feasibility of retrofitting water closets and urinals.

Previous issue date: 2006-10-31 / In the course of their civilizatory process, human groupings have been able to account for different answers as to places for the fulfillment of their physiological needs, their disposal and sanitation. The purpose of the present dissertation is to examine this issue and to study public restrooms in the central area of the city of S?o Paulo (City Hall s S? Subdivision) and their users, specifically workers not based in the area those who carry out some kind of economic activity in the streets. Personal hygiene is the expression used for the physiological functions of defecating, urinating and personal cleaning. As a fundamental right, a citizen s health entails his/her total physical, mental and social wellbeing and is based on the definition of human needs and their fulfillment, a role that is assigned to the representatives of the public authority. In order to evaluate the performance of such a role the evolution of habits and customs related to personal hygiene is studied as well as the solutions found in the course of times to dispose of and treat human wastes. The discussion is on the social transformations derived from the industrialization process and the emergence of a working class which starts to occupy the urban fabric under insalubrious spaces and conditions, giving rise to the dissemination of epidemic diseases and the damaging of the social body, forcing the State to take over the people s health. In S?o Paulo, the lack of timing of public policies with the socio-economic and cultural development of the population as well as the fast growth of the city result in a metropolis of extreme contrasts in terms of infrastructure, income distribution and access to education, health, work, housing, and transportation. These contrasts can be identified in the field research carried out with 360 workers not based in the central area of the city, in an effort to delineate the solutions they found to satisfy their personal hygiene when not in their houses. From the analysis of the management of the public restrooms services, offered by the municipal authorities, in public grounds of the city center, and from the experience of previous managers, and especially those from the Subway Railway, due to the similarity with this study in relation to location, demand and utilization of their restrooms, we try to characterize the existing challenges for the improvement of the ways to provide these services.

Trygghet i stadsmiljöer och offentliga toaletter : Feeling safe in public spaces and restroomsThudén, Lisa January 2019 (has links)
The planning, structure and shape of our urban environments affects our mindsets and perception of safety. The fear of being exposed to crimes causes many, especially women, to avoid certain public places completely. This proves the necessity of increasing and improving the mobility and safety for women in public spaces. This is the topic of this project, and the focus is on public toilets. The issue is relevant and it is based on the fact that cities traditionally have provided more toilets adapted to men (such as urinals), and existing toilets rarely being designed and equipped to fit the needs of women, girls and parents of young children. The purpose of this project is to improve the availability, design and experience of public restrooms. How can one, using design, improve the public space to feel more safe and accessible for men and women on equal terms.
