Svensson Nordell, Jenny January 2018 (has links)

Skapande med lust på under : En analys av Selma Lagerlöfs Kevenhüller och Slåtterkarlarna på Ekolsund ur ett science fiction-perspektiv / Creation with Desire for Wonder : An analysis of Selma Lagerlöf’s Kevenhüller and Slåtterkarlarna på Ekolsund from a Science Fiction perspective

Bjälvegård, David January 2023 (has links)
Selma Lagerlöf is an author who is seldomly associated with the Science Fiction genre, but in this thesis two of her more unusual stories are analysed with the help of Science Fiction Theory. The stories are “Kevenhüller”, a chapter from the novel Gösta Berling’s saga from 1891, and “Slåtterkarlarna på Ekolsund” (“The Mowers at Ekolsund”), a story written in verse from the collection volume Troll och människor I from 1915. The purpose is in part to analyse the texts from a new perspective and in part to see how the themes of the text relate to the author’s contemporaries. The three foremost aspects that are used in the analysis are Novum, the Sublime and the Grotesque, all three concepts used according to the Science Fiction interpretation that Csicsery-Ronay makes in The Seven Beauties of Science Fiction from 2008. A Novum is an invention, discovery, or social state of affair from which the story evolves. The Sublime is experiences where the reader is introduced to things in the text of such greatness that it’s not possible to grasp with the mind. The Grotesque is reading experiences where borders and transformations are so vague that it’s impossible to classify that which creates the feeling. All these aspects appear in the stories and gives expanded insights into themes who are often associated with Science Fiction, like future, technology, and human identity. The texts of Lagerlöf also fits in with trains of thought that were popular amongst her contemporaries. The human domination over nature is hardly ever questioned. The great mission for humanity is to handle its technology with responsibility, so that all people can gain from the wonders of technology.

Selma Lagerlöf som lärarinna i Landskrona : En studie om pedagogik -  om  undervisning i sociala, kulturella och institutionella sammanhang / Selma Lagerlöf as an educator in Landskrona : A study in pedagogics - about teaching in social, cultural and institutional context

Aguilar, Charlotte January 2022 (has links)
Selma Lagerlöf (1858-1940) is to many a known writer, a member of the Swedish Academy and a Nobel prize winner in literature. Her life has been studied and is well documented both by herself and others mainly from a literary point of view. We know that she spent time as a teacher in the southern swedish city of Landskrona (1885-1891). A missing piece in the study of the life of Selma Lagerlöf has been of how she was as a teacher in the society in the late 1880’s, written from the perspective of a teacher. The aim of this study has been to seek a deeper knowledge about Selma Lagerlöf as a teacher and the pedagogical means of her teaching, as well as the society that she was a member of. The different parts of Selma Lagerlöfs life, the actions and her words may contribute to the aiming result as a holistic view. The following overarching questions have been used in the study:  How is Selma Lagerlöf described as a student at the School of Education? (in swedish: Högre Lärarinneseminariet). Who may have contributed to her role as a teacher? What was the spirit of the times connected to Selma Lagerlöf at the School of Education? What factors may have influenced her as a person and a teacher? How is Selma Lagerlöf described as a teacher/educator? How are her pedagogical means expressed? How is Selma Lagerlöf described as a teacher by her students? A hermeneutical perspective has been used as a method and a theory, mainly as explained by the philosopher Dilthey. The analysed literature includes adequate texts, books and articles and the found details are woven into a full picture together with the foundation of context. When writing the biography of a person as well known as Selma Lagerlöf there is a need to balance the sense of her presence making certain to keep an, at the same time, ethical, respectful and critical attitude towards her. As working with the study, also a context is surfaced and by the context it is possible to understand the details. The person and her ideas have been studied by sympathetic empathy and understanding, to see the person not as dead, but as a person who once lived and is still inspiring. A conclusion can be made that Selma Lagerlöf was a teacher with a compassionate and methodological way of teaching. The findings to the overarching questions in the aim may guide us through the pedagogical ideas of the person who was forced by economic and social reasons to work as a teacher. She enjoyed giving lessons which made the eyes of the students glow of interest. A method using compassion and trust between educator and pupils leads to pleasurable learning. It also leads to a foundation for the responsibility of all citizens' upbringing and education in a democratic society, a pedagogical perspective known from the philosopher and educator Pestalozzi, a responsibility also relevant to the education of today.

The Influence of Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger's Death on Xaver Paul Thoma's Composition of Ich bin in Sehnsucht Eingehüllt: Sieben Lieder für Sopran und Klavier, A Lecture Recital Together with Three Recitals of Selected Works of O. Messiaen, G.F. Handel, A. Scarlatti, J.S. Bach, W. Latham, and Others

Rushing, JemmiLou Rye 08 1900 (has links)
The aim of this study is to introduce the contemporary German composer, Xaver Paul Thoma, and his composition, Ich bin in Sehnsucht Eingehüllt on the poems of Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger. This study explores the possible reasons behind Thoma's decision to set the poems, as well as the circumstances and significance of the poets' life and poetry, made known through Thoma's composition. An analysis of each song is included, emphasizing especially the relationship between text and music.

Naturskildringen i ett samhällsperspektiv : en ekokritisk studie av Gösta Berlings saga och Händelser vid vatten / Nature portrayals in a society perspective : an ecocritical study of The Story of Gösta Berling and Blackwater

Wiberg, Karolina January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this master thesis is to examine how the relationship between humans and nature is expressed in the imaginative literature. My aim is to identify ideological reproductions in the analyzed works. Therefore I have chosen one work from late 19th century and one from late 20th century. This makes it possible to examine the contextual anchorage of the found ideological expressions. The study’s theoretical framework is primarily based on ecocriticism, and especially on Greg Garrard’s and Kate Soper’s thoughts. The method used is critical ideology analysis. The result shows that nature and culture is paradoxical and highly ideological conceptions. In The story of Gösta Berling, an anthropocentric and religiously oriented notion of nature is dominating, though there are some elements of an early deep ecology to be found. In Blackwater we can see a more rational and objective notion of nature as dominating, even if we sometimes can see a shallow romanticism of nature expressed by the characters, where also some groups of humans that are considered to be “closer to nature” is romanticized (for example minority groups). This is explained by the works historical contexts, where The story of Gösta Berling is written in a time of early modernism, where nature is not fully conquered, and therefore seen as mystical and sometimes as a threat to humans. Blackwater was written in a postmodern time where nature is demystified and fully conquered, and strictly speaking no “pure” and untouched nature is left to be found anymore.

Lättlästa Lagerlöf -En komparativ analys av Gösta Berlings saga i två versioner

Lindberg, Victor January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the differences and similarities between the original version and an easy-to-read version of Selma Lagerlöfs novel Gösta Berlings saga. The method used is close reading of the two versions and thereby analysing descriptions of the environment, descriptions and psychological depth of the protagonist, missing chapters and changes of the plot. The results show that 21 chapters along with large parts from some of the remaining chapters are missing in the easy-to-read version due to not being necessary to the main story line. An alteration has been made in order to make the story line chronological. The use of invocation and personification of nature by Lagerlöf are missing in the easy-to-read version. There is also fewer details mentioned about the environments in the novel, which is resulting in the reader having to fill in the gaps on his own. The descriptions of the protagonist are few and over all quite similar, though some details are left out in the easy-to-read version and some clarifications have been made. There is a bigger difference between how thoughts and feelings are described in the texts, resulting in Gösta being a round and dynamic character in the original version and somewhat more flat and static in the easy-to-read version. These differances effect how a classroom discussion might be implemented, since the teacher must adjust the conversation so that it may be relevant for all participants.

Klitgaard Nelsson, Rebecca January 2016 (has links)
The traditional Christian doctrines of atonement have been widely critized for expressing a violent image of God, and for having serious misogynist consequenses. In this thesis I start by presenting some feminist critics of the objective, subjective and classical view, but my main objective is to discuss the question of feminism and soteriology through the lens of Selma Lagerlöf’s narrative Kejsarn av Portugallien (The Emperor of Portugallia). Selma Lagerlöf’s stories have been used before in theological contexts, mainly through Margareta Brandby-Cöster who detects lutheran undercurrents in Lagerlöfs writings, which I also present in this thesis. Kejsarn av Portugallien deals with the redemption between a father and a daughter, and has some parallels with the subjective and the classical view of atonement, but doesn’t fully align with any of the doctrines. I have found that there are some important themes and imagery in Kejsarn av Portugallien that can be used in a feminist discussion about soteriology. It opens up for a debate on sin, the issues with a male saviour, suffering, images of God and performativity.

Sundström, Ella, Stenlund, Malin January 2013 (has links)

LONG, Marie-Chantal January 2013 (has links)
