Boucher, Aurélie 12 1900 (has links)
Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health issues in Canada. Not only is anxiety prevalent in a pathological form, it is also a state most human beings experience during their life, which makes it an interesting starting point to approach the issues surrounding mental health in general. Anxiety disorders, as other illnesses and disabilities, are often invisible. This makes them all the more challenging to live with. This research-creation project engages with this problem by reflecting on how we can “make visible”. More precisely, it aims to explore and understand how testimonies of persons living with an anxiety disorder can be adapted through arts and media – and therefore be rendered visible in various ways. The research was undertaken in three stages: 1) the collection, through the topical life story method, of testimonies by people living with an anxiety disorder, 2) artistic adaptions of these accounts by invited artists, 3) receiving feedback from the participants who had offered their testimony about the adaptation of their story. The research project allowed me to investigate how experiences of anxiety disorders can be translated into art, but also how the people involved in such a process (both artists and those sharing their story) experience this process. In the spirit of research-creation, I also set forth to share the stories, art pieces and knowledge resulting from this exchange to a larger audience through the medium of the web. Guided by the concept of curation, I endeavoured a second (media-oriented) adaptation phase, resulting in an online exhibition, Anxiogenèse. This allowed me to reflect in a more personal way about adaptation as a creative process, in addition to contributing to raising awareness about anxiety disorders. Finally, analysis of the research data highlights a few key ideas: on the ways in which elements that are external to the original testimony contribute to the adaptation process; on how participants construe the adaptations of the testimonials in ways that are literal, metaphorical and abstract; on the ways that the participants connect and relate to each other despite not having met; and lastly, on how the concept of adaptation takes on various meanings throughout the project, including through the curation process.

Because of Thy Exceeding Faith: A Choreographic Portrayal of Women in The Book of Mormon

Bone, Wendy L. 01 January 2001 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis is a choreographic exploration that illuminates and defines moments in the lives of women who are mentioned in the Book of Mormon. These women are Sariah; the wife of King Lamoni and Abish, her servant; and the Ammonite mothers of Helaman's two thousand stripling warriors. It is through these stories that their faith was evident. By understanding the roles these women played in the history of the Book of Mormon, we can use their example to strengthen our own testimonies. It was discovered through this process that, although one can read about the life of another, a deeper understanding comes through the creation and expression of movement. Communication skills were also developed as choreography was created depicting a specific moment without being flamboyant and disruptive. The greatest discovery, however, came from the overwhelming positive response received from the performers and the audience. Many expressed the emotions they felt during and after the performance, describing it as “one of the greatest spiritual experiences they have had through dance.”

[pt] A COMPASSIVIDADE E A MISERICÓRDIA DE DEUS: UMA DIMENSÃO ÉTICO-MÍSTICO-PROFÉTICA DA TEOLOGIA DE JON SOBRINO / [en] GOD S COMPASSION AND MERCY: AN ETHICAL-MYSTIC-PROPHETIC DIMENSION OF JON SOBRINO S

ANA MÁRCIA SANTANA DE OLIVEIRA 02 June 2022 (has links)
[en] The God of Jesus Christ always calls us to stand for the victims of this world. In light of the empirical experience, it is a responsible decision to mirror God’s Compassion and Mercy towards the victims of history, which, in an engagingly life, allows us to take on the burden of reality, carry it and take charge of its liberating transformation. This means, making theology from witnesses enriches and deepens the theology of texts. Therefore, it becomes relevant to believe in order to understand, as well as to understand in order to believe. This Doctoral Thesis, God s Compassion and Mercy. An ethical-mystic-prophetic dimension of Jon Sobrino s Theology focuses on their hope and the promise to rescue them as a key to theological hermeneutic reading. We recognize and affirm that in Jon Sobrino s theology there is an urgent need for theological zeal centred in the mystery of the merciful presence of God in history. In this sense, it broadens his gaze to the new faces of victims around the world.

[pt] DEPOIMENTO ESPECIAL: TENSÕES ENTRE PROTEÇÃO E VIOLAÇÃO / [en] SPECIAL TESTIMONY: TENSIONS BETWEEN PROTECTION AND VIOLATION

SILVANA BARROS DOS SANTOS TEIXEIRA 16 September 2021 (has links)
[en] In Brazil, Special Testimony has been the subject of many debates among professionals who work with Children and Adolescents rights protection, particularly, in the areas of Social Work, Psychology and Law School for almost two decades. The aim of this work is to identify and analyze indicative elements of tension between the Full Protection principle and the violation of rights present in the actions of Special Testimony agents. Therefore, aspects related to childhood and adolescence were addressed; as well as the State tutelage executed by the Justice System; the full protection of children and adolescents; the violations of rights to which they are subjected, especially about sexual violence; the legal field of the Court; and the relations established in this context between the institutional agents, the victims and the defendants. Legal proceedings conducted by Criminal Courts of the Federal District involving the testimony of children or adolescents as victims were selected to build the corpus of the research. The selected data was organized and analyzed using the documentary analysis technique in conjunction with theoretical contributions by Pierre Bourdieu on the habitus, field and capital, as well as studies on childhood, society and the justice system. The results showed the presence of eight indicative elements of tension in the Special Testimony judicial practice which demonstrates a latent potential for violation of the children and adolescents’ rights and the defendants rights, even on protection judicial proceedings; making evident the social-historical habitus built throughout the society and its institutions formation process has a strong impact on the social relations undertaken in the analyzed field.

Zurück zum Glauben : christliches Zeugnis im Kaliningrader Gebiet in Postsowjetischer Zeit / Back to the faith : Christian witness in the Kaliningrad area during the post-Soviet era / Christliches Zeugnis im Kalingrader Gebiet

Breitkreuz, Alex 30 June 2006 (has links)
Law, Psychiatry and psychology : a selection of constitutional, medico-legal and liability issues

Swanepoel, Magdaleen 30 June 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to develop a comprehensive process for identifying and addressing primarily constitutional, medico-legal and liability issues, and in addition ethical, social and scientific issues related to the psychiatric and psychology professions in South Africa. In fulfilling this purpose, a comprehensive search is conducted of relevant historical, ethical, philosophical and clinical aspects pertaining to psychiatry and psychology, as well as an evaluation of the current juridical framework regarding the legal liability of the psychiatrist and psychologist balanced against the constitutional rights of the mentally disordered patient in South Africa. Recommendations are made for the establishment of any new controls needed to mitigate and prevent the exposure of mentally disordered patients, further attempting to provide specific remedies to adapt the current juridical framework in South Africa. The examination is conducted within the framework of the South African and United Kingdom's legal systems. Focus is placed on aspects of medical law, human rights law (as envisaged in the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996), criminal law and the law of delict and, to a lesser extent, administrative law and the law of evidence. / Law / LL.D.

Reprezentace šoa: dětská literatura a literatura o dětech / The Representation of Shoah: Children Writing the Holocaust

Vlasáková, Šárka January 2012 (has links)
Aim of this diploma thesis is to compare different forms of narrating of the holocaust through Children's eyes. Pure child's narration has much bigger impact on reader than narration of an adult, enriched with metaphors and attributes. In this way child's point of view extends the ethical dimension of holocaust narration. We will examine the discourse of child's narration in three diaries (The Diary of David Sierakowiak, The Diary of Mary Berg, The Beautiful Days of My Youth by Ana Novac), one Fictional diary (The Unloved. From the Diary of Perla S. by Arnošt Lustig) and a novella (Child of the Shadows by Henryk Grynberg). Children's narrators of the holocaust are characterized by psychological maturity, which contrasts with their official age. On the other hand they reveal childishness, while growing up, because of their unfinished childhood. In those books we will examine changing of the narrators discourse and his depiction of space (ghetto, concentration camp, shelter) and persons (family, friend, Nazis). We will also focus on distinct motives that form these books (e.g.: hunger, guilt, comic, Paradise, game).
