The faithful entrepreneur, witness and marketing tool: an analysis of the discourse on IURD?s entrepreneurial congresses

Carvalho, Sarita dos Santos 21 February 2018 (has links)
Submitted by SBI Biblioteca Digital (sbi.bibliotecadigital@puc-campinas.edu.br) on 2018-04-12T14:28:09Z No. of bitstreams: 1 SARITA DOS SANTOS CARVALHO.pdf: 1348889 bytes, checksum: a443478449236639e8deb7f1c3440409 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2018-04-12T14:28:09Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 SARITA DOS SANTOS CARVALHO.pdf: 1348889 bytes, checksum: a443478449236639e8deb7f1c3440409 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-02-21 / The Protestant Reformation of the 16th century originally created the Lutheran, Calvinist, and Anglican churches, which later unfolded in other denominations throughout history due to differences in theological interpretations, disagreements among leaders, or even to adapt its public to new - sometimes progressive, sometimes conservative - cultural forms. The 20th century saw the birth of the Pentecostal movement, and in the 1960s and 1970s, Neopentecostal churches emerge in Brazil as the result of such unfolding. Of these, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus - IURD) is the most prominent; it is a church based on the prosperity theology and it has expanded to several other countries, having one of the best (if not the best) evangelical media structure in recent times in Brazil. IURD has in its program several regular encounters aimed at specific audiences. One of these is the Congress for Success, which focuses on encouraging successful entrepreneurship among its followers. The object of this research are testimonials from successful businessman in IURD recorded on video by the church and made available on the internet, but also broadcast as part of their television program. Would these testimonials be only a liturgical part of the IURD?s meetings or would they be strong elements of institutional religious propaganda? To answer this question, we used the method of Linguistic Discourse Analysis based on the works of M. Foucault and E. Orlandi to analyze these testimonials, comparing their structure to persuasion techniques from propaganda and marketing pieces, as described by J. A. C. Brown. We intend to show, based on consistent theoretical and analytical basis, that the discourse of these testimonials influence their target audience and motivate them to participate in and adhere to the church. We speak of a secular church that is fluent in efficient entrepreneurial techniques and knows how to mix what some would see as profane with what is holy and which grows and influences society. Knowing the religious market, its ways, its efficiency, and its social and political goals, is essential to understand modern-day society, which is shrouded in a less social and more individualistic religiousness.

La création à l'épreuve des guerres et de leurs effets : quelques aspects de l'art contemporain libanais / Creation put to the test of wars and their effects : some aspects of the Lebanase contemporary art

Fattūḥ, Sirīn 14 December 2015 (has links)
This thesis explores the consequences of the 1975-1989 Lebanese wars and the 1991 amnesty on the artistic production of two generations of Lebanese artists. In the post-war early years, institutional amnesty imposed a tacit silence on the Lebanese population. Artists of the so-called first generation, those who were teenagers during the wars, bypassed this silence by questioning their recent past (the one of war) and their present through their art. They probed their memory, that of their country and its people, to foil official truths of state power. The peculiarity of their work is their critical approach where both the aesthetic regimes of the real and the fictitious are proximate. Meanwhile, the second generation of artists, those who were children during the wars, including myself, have followed the footsteps of their elders addressing the same issues, in an attempt to unravel their fragmentary past, but also in order to emancipate from it. The art of both the first and the second generation artists questions the Libanon’s history through different forms of testimony, namely the documentary, the narrative, but also fiction or by invented archival documents. In order to encourage their audience to grasp Lebanon’s incomplete history, these artists’ approaches consist to sow doubt among viewers by intrusions of reality into the fictional or fiction into the real.

Erro médico em cirurgia do aparelho digestivo: contribuição para o estudo das provas técnicas, periciais e documentais e suas implicações jurídicas / Medical malpractice in digestive system surgeries: a contribution to the study of technical, expert, and documentary evidence and its legal implications.

Opitz Junior, João Baptista 01 September 2005 (has links)
Thirty legal proceedings, which are in progress before the Regional Civil Courts both the Capital and the countryside of the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, besides Examination Institutions in the Capital city of Sao Paulo, have been analyzed in this work Individual excerpts of each case were taken with the purpose of defining the main causes and documentation attached to them as well the consequences of each condition. The practical importance of the subject for the medical-social evolution has been addressed in the first place. The physician/patient relationship view was sought to be studied, even during the claim, as well as the information of the medical procedures and limitations to the patient and his or her family; the technical/legal documentation attached to the case; the physician technical/legal preparation and whether the filing of the action depends on the professional education and specialization. Trial court cases from 1996 to 2002 related to digestive system surgery have been analyzed. The analysis subject hereof has been based exclusively on the documents attached to the case record, where attempts have been made to evidence the clear existence of the breach of the physician/patient relationship, the existence of informed consent, the examination of the documentation attached to the defense by the parties or court request, and the qualification of the professional involved in the actions. Finally, after the results have been analyzed, a conclusion was reached that the best way of avoiding a civil action for damages due to medical malpractice includes: a good relationship between doctors and patients; keeping the patient record completed, legible, stamped, and signed; informed consent, which must be prepared but it is not sufficient on its own; and the professional technical experience and background do not constitute a mitigating circumstance for filing the action.

Taufer, Adauto Locatelli January 2011 (has links)
In this thesis, the aspects of literariness the experience and the testimony marks in two texts of contemporary Brazilian literature are investigated. The narrative content is the experience of other people and the personal experience, both in the prisional context. The discussions undertaken in this work are based on four main axes that guide issues, such as concerning memory, which is responsible for the writing process that Luiz Alberto Mendes and Drauzio Varella accomplish; concerning the writing confessional genre, which was chosen by the two writers to restore their memories; concerning the relevant fictional process meaningful to each of these authors during the exposure of their memories; and concerning the language through which it is possible to find out discursive clues that distinguish the experience of witness and reveal aspects of literariness in the narratives engendered by them. Taking into account the study of these four lines, this thesis aims at recognizing the subject insertion that appears in the language shown in Memórias de um sobrevivente (2001), written by Luiz Alberto Mendes and Estação Carandiru (1999), written by Drauzio Varella, in order to explore the marks of enunciation that identify and distinguish witness personal experience. Henri Bergson, Michel Foucault, Erich Auerbach, Walter Benjamin, Gerard Genette, Philippe Lejeune,Wayne Booth, Wolfgang Kayser, Clara Crabbe Rocha, Antonio Candido, Ligia Chiappini Moraes Leite, Luiz Costa Lima, Bella Josef, Émile Benveniste, Dany-Robert Dufour, and others were searched for the theoretical basis of the analysis in this paper.

A Little Room of Hope: Feminist Participatory Action Research with "Homeless" Women

Paradis, Emily Katherine 25 February 2010 (has links)
In April 2005, a group of women gathered for a human rights workshop at a Toronto drop-in centre for women experiencing homelessness, poverty, and isolation. One year later, the group sent a representative to address the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. This dissertation describes and analyzes the feminist participatory action research-intervention project that began with the workshop and led to the United Nations. Over the course of 15 months, more than 50 participants attended weekly meetings at the drop-in. They learned about social and economic rights, testified about their experiences of human rights violations, and planned and undertook actions to respond to and resist homelessness. This thesis draws upon observations of meetings, documents produced by the group, and interviews with thirteen of the participants, in order to examine the project from a number of angles. First, the project suggests a new understanding of women’s homelessness: testimonies and interviews reveal that homelessness is not only a material state, but more importantly a social process of disenfranchisement enacted through relations of harm, threat, control, surveillance, precarity and dehumanization. Understanding homelessness as a social process enables an analysis of its operations within and for a dominant social and economic order structured by colonization and neoliberal globalization. Secondly, the thesis takes up participants’ assessments of the project’s political effectiveness and its impacts on their well-being and empowerment, and reads these against the researcher’s experiences with the project, in order to explore how feminist participatory methodologies can contribute to resistance. Finally, the thesis concludes with recommendations for theory, research, service provision, and human rights advocacy on women’s homelessness.

Piety, Intimacy and Mobility : A Case Study of Charismatic Christianity in Present-day Stockholm

Moberg, Jessica January 2013 (has links)
Stockholm County is a post-industrial Swedish region characterized by high levels of mobility and technologization as well as ethnic and religious diversity. Among its religious minorities exist various strands of charismatic Christianity, some of which originate from the Pentecostal revival of the early 20th century and some of which belong to more recent movements. The aim of this ethnographic study is to examine how affiliates of the multicultural charismatic Christian congregation New Life Church practice religiosity within the context of their personal daily lives, within the framework of the general congregation and in terms of their involvements with other religious organizations in the area of Stockholm. Beginning with the assumption that the practice of contemporary religiosity and the development of a religious identity are part of an ongoing process of habituation, the study describes how practitioners cultivate a form of charismatic piety characterized by certain embodied orientations, patterns of ritualization and narrative genres. To shed further light on this process, it draws upon a variety of theories concerning ritualization, embodiment, performance, narratives and materiality. Apart from this, the study also constitutes an attempt to explore and measure the impact on the practitioners’ religiosity of late modern developments such as urbanization, detraditionalization and global mobility as well as the growing absorption in consumerism, emotional intimacy and the unfolding of the “authentic” inner self. While pursuing these ends, the study also calls into question previous assumptions about charismatic Christianity in Sweden, most particularly the assumption that today’s practitioners remain inclined to be entirely faithful to one given institution and its system of beliefs and practices. Indeed this view is directly challenged herein by the finding that contemporary charismatics are far more inclined to eclectically appropriate elements and models of thoughts from various contexts of origin as well as to affiliate with and/or visit multiple Christian institutions.

Troup, Tomáš 04 1900 (has links)
The theme of the use of experience as a mode of fact findings, i.e. as an element which fills the gaps in a totality of evidence in the civil procedure, is somewhat tabooed. The doctrine is frequently based upon the premise that a decision-maker should render a decision solely on the basis of evidence and that he should completely abstain from inserting into the fact findings anything which is not present in the evidence. This vision is distant from the legal reality. In the first part, three procedural principles which prevent the experience from the use as a mode of fact findings will be treated. The principles in question are the principle of reconstruction of the past event, the principle of setting aside the knowledge obtained out of the procedure and the principle of exclusion of hearsay evidence. Then the attention is paid to different types of experience (i.e. the lay experience, divisible into "bon sens" and into common sense, and the scientific experience) and to the methods of their fonctionning in the civil procedure. The first part is concluded by a brief confrontation of different types of experience with the procedural principles. The second part is dedicated to an analysis of the experience in the three legal instruments: judicial notice, presumption of fact and expert testimony. The interest is focused especially on verification whether the experience works inside the legal instruments as a mode of facts findings and then what are the limits which the law fixes to the experience in this role. The research will confirm that the principal instrument by which the experience as a mode of fact findings penetrates into the civil procedure is the presumption of fact.

Manrique Rueda, Gabriela 10 1900 (has links)
This paper studies the interpretations of the ex-combatants of the paramilitary groups United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia about their participation in the internal conflict. These discourses, created in a context of social reintegration, are used to discuss the recreation of the truth brought by the ex-combatants in post-conflict contexts. We analyzed the life stories of 18 ex-combatants who were part of the reintegration to civil life Program held in Bogota. Our interviewees have adopted a position of victims, creating discourses of legitimation of the violence in order to avoid the according responsability. In there, it suggests a normalization of violence, remembering the concept of the “banality of evil” brought by Hannah Arendt. Our interviewees have used the paramilitary rhetoric to justify violence. This rhetoric belongs to the psychological construction of the enemy by the groups and it reveals the role of language in the construction of a paramilitary culture. Although, we found that there are other interpretations that don’t concede and justify violence. There are different interpretations of their reactions in the contexts of mass violence. From there we discussed the notions of moral and legal guilty.
