[en] CONSUMER ENCOUNTERS IN UNIVERSITY ENVIRONMENTS: INTERACTION, EXCLUSION AND SOCIAL CLASS DIFFERENCES / [pt] ENCONTROS DE CONSUMO EM AMBIENTES UNIVERSITÁRIOS: INTERAÇÃO, EXCLUSÃO E DIFERENÇAS ENTRE CLASSES SOCIAISESTEFANIE SILVA DO NASCIMENTO 17 February 2021 (has links)
[en] Despite being a topic already discussed in other areas of knowledge such as Anthropology, Sociology and Psychology, the encounter between different individuals, in this case, different consumers in service environments, is still little discussed in Marketing. In recent years, changes in the economic and social order have led to the access of a significant parcel of the population to consumption, including the consumption of private education, a sector that has been expanding more and more in Brazil and which also still needs studies in the area of Marketing and Consumer Behavior. The thesis, based on a longitudinal study of a qualitative and interpretative nature, proposes to investigate the university trajectory of 22 young people in private Higher Education Institutions in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro between the years 2016 and 2020. These young people were interviewed at least twice during that period and have in common the fact that they are from low income. Most of them are the first in the family to enter in higher education. I analyzed the way in which these young people experienced the experience of consuming university services and also the interpersonal relationships that occurred in the university environment. The research is based on the marketing literature on service encounter and interactions between customers and also draws on literature from other areas of knowledge. From the perspective of low-income youth (outsiders), the symbolic character of higher education was identified and how these youth attribute meanings to it and seek to transfer these meanings to themselves. The symbolic character of higher education permeates the entire university trajectory: when entering university, in the experience of higher education during the course, at the time of graduation, and in the experience once completed the university. The results obtained also show that the presence of the other in the consumption environment impacts the way that consumption is experienced, especially high-income Higher

What do you mean national self-image? : A discourse analysis of how Swedish-language print media relate to The Local Sweden's news coverage of Sweden and its "essence"Nilsson, Mimmi January 2016 (has links)
The Bachelor dissertation What do you mean national self-image? is a discourse analysis of the relationship between Swedish news providers. The study aims to investigate how Swedish-language print media interact with the main provider of Swedish news in English, The Local Sweden, and what it reports as the “essence” of the nation and its people. The investigation has been conducted through the implementation of Ernesto Laclau’s and Chantal Mouffe’s discourse analysis and uses intertextuality, stereotypes, social representation, as well as nationalism and the imagined communities as its theoretical framework. The material selected for the analysis comprises publications by Swedish-language print media from the year of 2014, which engage in a dialogue with The Local Sweden beyond the generic interaction of news. The dissertation concludes that Swedish-language print media approach The Local Sweden’s news coverage in two ways: in agreement or in opposition of what has been reported. When The Local Sweden has published something with the intention of capturing the “essence” of Sweden and its people, they bring attention to the Swede’s hugging culture, their food and souvenirs, as well as their knowledge of language. The results of the study suggest that The Local Sweden manages to provide new information on the subjects, which then leads to Swedish-language print media responding with entire articles dedicated to these topics. The articles convey a sense of fascination and curiosity toward the findings and confirm that The Local Sweden has been correct in their observations. However, when The Local Sweden publishes something with the intention of presenting Swedish news rather than the specific “essence” of it, they find different angles in news stories than what has been covered by Swedish-language print media. The results of the study suggest that by doing so they set themselves apart and provoke Swedish-language print media into responding by incorporating a comment for and/or relating to them as a news provider. The comments convey that Swedish-language print media question The Local Sweden’s validity as a valuable member in covering Swedish news.

Byl jednou jeden cizinec na cestě. / Once upon a time, there was a stranger on the roadVondráčková, Kristýna January 2013 (has links)
v anglickém jazyce: This thesis mainly analyzes the five-part novel Gargantua and Pantagruel written by the French author Francois Rabelais. Emphasis is based particularly on an inclusion of Rabelais's work in historical and literary context of the period of transformation between medieval and Renaissance society. More specifically, it deals with the author's humanist opinion and his critique of contemporary society, which is the main line of the work itself. The aim of our thesis is especially an attempt to outline the various possible meanings of the terms « road or path » and « stranger » in Rabelais's work and explain the role of these thematic concepts in the author's concept of criticism of society.

Constructing sexual danger in the Spanish media: A mixed-method analysis of a high-profile, non-intimate femicide case in El PaísSuros, Carlota January 2021 (has links)
From January 2016 until August 2021, at least 436 women or girls have been deliberately murdered in Spain by men. Non-intimate femicide (and, particularly, murder committed by complete strangers to the victim, to which this study refers as “stranger femicide”) has historically been, and still is, the most covered type of femicide in the media. This is also the case in the Spanish press, and more specifically, El País, the most read media outlet in the country. This thesis examines how El País framed Diana Quer’s case, the most high-profile, intensively covered femicide case in Spain in the past 5 years. It will also examine which ethical problems the reporting presented. From a feminist perspective and through a mixed-method approach of content analysis and frame analysis, this study examines 86 articles corresponding to the two informative peaks of Diana Quer’s case coverage. The periods go from August to October 2016, the first two months of her disappearance, and from December 2017 to January 2018, the 15 days following her killer’s arrest and crime confession. The findings reveal that the coverage in El País constructed a victimization iconography with DQ’s case that engendered cautionary tales and failed to address femicide as a social issue. The reporting also presented a series of critical ethical problems calling for a reformation of femicide reporting guidelines.

Aspects de la représentation de l'autre dans les romans grecs et les Métamorphoses d'Apulée / Aspects of the representation of the other in the Greek novels and The Metamorphoses of ApuleiusVieilleville, Claire 12 December 2015 (has links)
The Greek novels and The Metamorphoses of Apuleius, even if it is in different terms for the last, are prose fictions which are based on topoi, and the figure of the Other is one of them. Although the Greek world was radically different of what it was in the fifth century BC, time during which Greek identity is contructed as opposed to the figure of the barbaros, the authors of novels, who wrote from the first century BC onward, used some stereotypes inherited from classical period, which was celebrated by the Second Sophistic movement. The aim of this thesis is to study in detail some elements of the representation of the Other to determine who it is, how he behaves, what makes him other. Then, from this sketch, necessarily incomplete, to evaluate what this representation says about the image of Greek identity in the imperial age, according to the play of the mirror detected by F. Hartog in the text of Herodotus. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the relationship between man and animal and to the image of savagery, in order to explore the novelistic limits of humanity. The second part concentrates on elements that classical period had particularly insisted on to promote the distinction between Greeks and non-Greeks : the linguistic criterion, the way to make war, and the politic discourse on the barbaric institutions. The third part study the place of the gods and of religious practices in the definition of the Other. I hope to contribute to the understanding of novel genre and of cultural representations of the « greco-roman- empire ».
