[pt] Esta pesquisa aborda a teoria da imagem a partir de uma perspectiva interdisciplinar e através do olhar do designer. O objeto de estudo consiste em uma coleção formada por 306 imagens de publicidade veiculadas em diferentes números de três revistas de moda, beleza e consumo dirigidas ao público feminino: a francesa Jalouse, a Elle americana e a brasileira Nova. Tais imagens, aqui denominadas imagens de consumo, se apoiam em estereótipos correntes, refletem e traduzem conceitos e valores compartilhados socialmente, vendem mercadorias e são elas próprias consumíveis como referências para a montagem de imaginários de consumo, que vêm a ser a base material dos estilos de vida. A aparência é o grande produto cultural contemporâneo. Ao longo de todo o texto são abordados aspectos da imagem e do corpo como produto e como signo. O trabalho compõem- se de uma contextualização inicial, que relaciona a ênfase na criação de aparências e o mercado; de uma parte central onde a pesquisa, seu campo (imagem na publicidade editorial), seu objeto (as revistas) e seu objetivo (conhecer como os padrões de beleza e comportamento são consumidos e incorporados) são apresentados. As imagens reunidas e digitalizadas são analisadas em relação aos seus aspectos formais e retóricos e às estratégias de que se utilizam para enriquecer simbolicamente os nomes dos produtos. Nove exemplos vêm ilustrar a pesquisa. As conclusões apontam para os corpos como colagens de referências dispersas que nos conectam a mundos imaginários ao mesmo tempo nos inserem nos grupos sociais. E para a estratégia corrente em publicidade, de intercambiar o corpo e o produto, como dois signos que se equivalem no consumo. / [en] The aim of this study is to discuss image theory through an interdisciplinary approach, from a designer`s point of view. The subject is a collection of 306 advertising images published in various issues of three women`s magazines focused on fashion, beauty and shopping: Jalouse (from France), Elle (from the USA) and Nova (the Brazilian edition of USA-based Cosmopolitan). The advertising images in printed media - here named images of consumption - are based on everyday stereotypes. They reflect and translate concepts and values widely shared. They sell goods and are themselves also sold as standards for the construction of the imaginary of consumption. This study is presented in the following format: an initial contextualization, in which the construction of appearances and the market are linked; the central part, showing the research, its field (images in the magazine advertisements), its subject (the magazines) and its purpose (to know how beauty and behavior patterns are consumed and assimilated); and a general analysis of the collection of digitalized images, concerning their formal and rhetorical aspects and the strategies they use to enrich the brand names symbolically. Nine examples are used to illustrate the research. Throughout this study, aspects of the image and of the body as a product and as a sign are discussed. The conclusions show that the body is trespassed by images - a collage of scattered references connecting us to imaginary worlds - and that the current strategy used in advertising is to interchange the body and the goods, both being equivalent signs in the market.

[pt] A presente dissertação de mestrado tem o objetivo de mostrar os vínculos entre a noção de mimesis, prazer e conhecimento na Poética de Aristóteles. No texto da Poética, dois momentos são importantes para analisar o prazer que o homem experimenta ao estar diante de um mimema: quando o exemplo é uma pintura, e quando o exemplo é uma tragédia. No caso do exemplo pictórico, o prazer é claramente cognitivo: há prazer em reconhecer do que o mimema (a pintura) é mimema. No caso da tragédia a questão é mais complexa, pois ela surte no espectador, ou no leitor, terror e piedade, emoções descritas na Retórica como dores. Na mimesis trágica, o prazer estaria ligado à compreensão de quais ações levam ao desfecho doloroso, sendo então o prazer trágico também cognitivo. / [en] This dissertation intends to show the relationship between the notion of mimesis, pleasure and knowledge in Aristotle Poetics. Within the Poetics, two moments are necessary for an analysis of the pleasure that Man experiences when he finds himself before a mimema: the example of painting and the example of tragedy. As concerns the first, pleasure is clearly cognitive: there is pleasure in finding out what the mimema (the painting) is a mimema of. But the case of tragedy is of greater complexity, because tragedy causes terror and pity in the spectator or reader, and such emotions are described as pain in the Rhetoric. In the tragic mimesis, pleasure is derived from the understanding of what actions have lead to the painful outcome, so that tragic pleasure is also of a cognitive kind.

[pt] A dissertação: O audiovisual na contemporaneidade - uma linguagem mundializada. discute as relações entre as várias mídias que compõem o audiovisual e suas influências entre si para tentar entender qual sua estética particular ou se existe uma estética comum a todas, uma estética mundializada. O ponto de partida é a tão criticada estética publicitária no cinema brasileiro atual, que é analisada tendo como base alguns autores como Edgar Morin, Andreas Huyssen e Renato Ortiz. Alguns cineastas brasileiros, como Guel Arraes, Cláudio Torres e Fernando Meirelles, bem como comerciais de televisão também serão analisados. / [en] The dissertation The contemporary audiovisual - a worldy language discusses the relations between the several medias that compose the audiovisual and their influences amongst one another, in order to understand wether there is one specific aesthethic for each one of them or if there is a general one that englobes all these medias, a wordly aesthethic. Our starting point is the over-criticized advertisement aesthethic in contemporary Brazilian film, wich we analize based on the works of Edgar Morin, Andreas Huyssen and Renato Ortiz. Some of the Brazilian filmakers that fit into our discussion, such as, Guel Arraes, Cláudio Torres and Fernando Meirelles, as well as television comercials, will also be analized.

[pt] Dentre as obras de que dispomos para a reconstituição do pensamento metafísico de Tomás de Aquino (1225-1274), encontram-se as Quaestiones disputatae De Potentia Dei, redigidas entre 1265 e 1266. Conhecer o itinerário (iter) filosófico do De Potentia é tarefa indispensável não só para a exegese da obra, mas, sobretudo, para determinar a originalidade da síntese metafísica de seu autor. O iter metafísico do Aquinate se orienta em torno de duas vias complementares, a saber: a via de resolução (via resolutionis) e a via de composição (via compositionis). Cada via se desdobra na consideração do ente enquanto tal à luz das causas intrínsecas (secundum rationem) ou das causas extrínsecas (secundum rem). A análise dos argumentos do De Potentia revela que o termo a quo da via de resolução pelas causas intrínsecas (via resolutionis secundum rationem) consiste na elevação da dýnamis aristotélica à condição de potentia essendi, enquanto o seu termo ad quem é a resolução de todos os atos e de todas as perfeições dos entes na atualidade e na perfeição do ato de ser (actus essendi). Em perspectiva ulterior, os entes são elevados à condição de participantes do próprio ser subsistente (ipsum esse subsistens), realizando-se assim o itinerário da via de resolução pelas causas extrínsecas (via resolutionis secundum rem). É a superação pela via de resolução no esse das antíteses sobre as quais nasce nossa herança metafísica (participação e causalidade, transcendência e imanência, platonismo e aristotelismo) que constitui a contribuição mais original de Tomás de Aquino à vida cultural do Ocidente. / [en] Among the works we dispose of for the reconstitution of the metaphysical thought of Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274), we find the Quaestiones disputatae De Potentia Dei, written between 1265 and 1266. To know the philosophical itinerary (iter) of the De Potentia is an indispensable task not only for the exegesis of that work, but, above all, for determining the originality of the metaphysical synthesis of its author. The metaphysical itinerary of Aquinas is guided around two complementary ways: the way of resolution (via resolutionis) and the way of composition (via compositionis). Each of them considers being qua being in the light of the intrinsic causes (secundum rationem) or extrinsic causes (secundum rem). Examination of the De Potentia´s arguments reveals that the term a quo of the way of resolution by the intrinsic causes (via resolutionis secundum rationem) is the rising of the aristotelian dýnamis to the condition of potentia essendi, while its term ad quem consists of the resolution of all acts and of all perfections of beings in the actuality and in the perfection of the act of being (actus essendi). In an ulterior perspective, the beings are raised to the condition of participants of the selfsubsisting being (ipsum esse subsistens), thus fulfilling the itinerary of the way of the resolution by extrinsic causes (via resolutionis secundum rem). It is the overcoming by way of the resolution in esse of the antitheses on which our metaphysical inheritance is born (participation and causality, transcendence and immanence, platonism and aristotelism) that constitutes the most original contribution of Thomas Aquinas to the cultural life of the West.

[pt] Nesses últimos anos vemos uma retomada do sagrado e da religiosidade, ao mesmo tempo a vemos de forma autônoma, puramente subjetiva, sentimental, desaparecendo assim a cosmo visão sagrada dominante na sociedade tradicional e o catolicismo perdendo a hegemonia simbólica desfrutada no passado, enquanto fundamento último da cultura e da organização social. Mas podemos constatar também que a Igreja, sobretudo com o Concílio Vaticano II, apresenta a revelação de Deus na história, como um fato objetivo, um acontecimento e um encontro com Jesus Cristo, recolocando-o assim como centro da vida do homem. Ele (o Amor Criativo de Deus), realiza plenamente a vida humana. E é aí que o pensamento teológico-eclesial de Luigi Giussani é uma entre as vozes originais e consonante, ou seja, uma retomada segura desse espírito conciliar, um aprofundamento desse aspecto decisivo da revelação e da fé. O Evento Cristo, presente hoje na Igreja - o âmbito - no qual se dá a continuidade desse evento - é resposta plena e decisiva às esperas mais profundas do coração humano. Neste trabalho, através de seu carisma eclesial, dom de Deus, o autor apresenta suas principais influências na cristologia do século XX, os seus conteúdos centrais: Encarnação, Morte e Ressurreição e, finalmente, o percurso de Cristo com o homem, que se resume em seu método: do maravilhamento à convicção, um novo significado para a vida. / [en] In the last few years, we assist to a reviewd attention to sacre and religion, while at the same time it appears in a more autonomous fashion purely subjective, emotional, thus losing the cosmological vision of the sacre which was dominat in the traditional society, while the catholicism is losing the symbolic ejemony that used to have an ultimate foundation of the cultre and of the social organization. At the same time, the Church especially with the Vatican II, presents the revelation of God within the history asan objective fact that actually happened, the security with Jesus Christ, putting him back in the center of humam life. It (the creative love of God) realize fully the humam life. The thought theological - Eclesiological of Luigi Giussani stands as one of the most original and alligued voice, i.e., strong recall of that conciliar spirit, a deepth of this important aspect of revelation and faith. The event Christ presents (existing) today in the Church, - the place where this fact continues happening - is full answer to the deepest hopes of the humam heart. In his work, through his eclesial carism, gift of God, the author presents his fundamental influences in the Christology of the XX century, his central topics: Encarnation, Death, and Ressurrection and finally the path of Christ with the humam being, which might be summarezed in its method: from the admiration till conviction, a new meaning for life.

[pt] A dissertação acompanha a argumentação de Hegel na Fenomenologia do Espírito no que concerne ao conceito da subjetividade. Este aparece na obra em questão como Eu, consciência, consciência de si, razão e espírito. Apresenta-se, então, a especificidade de cada um destes momentos e suas deficiências. / [en] The dissertation analyzes Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit argumentation about the concept of subjectivity. This notion appears here as the I, consciousness, self-consciousness, reason and spirit. This work analyzes each one of them in their specificity and deficiencies.

[pt] Nesta dissertação iremos analisar de forma pormenorizada os conceitos de espaço, tempo e movimento absolutos de Newton, assim como apresentar uma descrição do método utilizado na elaboração da Física newtoniana, mais precisamente, na confecção dos Princípios Matemáticos de Filosofia Natural. Argumentaremos também que esses conceitos de espaço, tempo e movimento absolutos teriam como origem a controvérsia entre cartesianos e newtonianos sobre os fundamentos da Filosofia Natural e, finalmente, mostraremos que esses conceitos vieram a servir de base para a definição newtoniana de forças e leis do movimento. / [en] In this dissertation we will analyze in detail Newton´s concepts of absolute space, time and movement, as well as present a description of the method used to elaborate Newton´s Physics - more precisely, to create the Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy. We will also argue that those concepts of absolute space, time and movement would originate with the controversy between Cartesians and Newtonians about the foundations of Natural Philosophy. We will finally show that those concepts happened to serve as the basis for Newton´s definition of forces and laws of movement.

[pt] A cinética da carbocloração do pentóxido de vanádio (V2O5) puro, pelo tratamento com gás cloro, de misturas sob a forma de pó, não-compactadas, de V2O5 e grafite (agente redutor), foi investigada, com o emprego do método termogravimétrico, no intervalo de 350 a 550°C, sendo estudada a influência, sobre a velocidade de reação, das seguintes variáveis: temperatura de cloração, percentagem de agente redutor na amostra inicial e pressão parcial do cloro. Na avaliação do efeito da temperatura de cloração sobre a cinética da reação, o Modelo do Núcleo Não Reagido foi utilizado para interpretar os resultados experimentais obtidos. O valor calculado para a energia de ativação da reação foi de 52 kJ, na faixa de 350 a 400°C, sugerindo a reação química como a etapa controladora do processo, e de 12 kJ, na faixa de 400 a 550°C, caso em que a difusão do gás reagente (condições fluidodinâmicas) poderia ser o mecanismo controlador. O efeito da percentagem de carbono, no intervalo de 17 a 30%, nas temperaturas de 350 e 500°C, revelou comportamentos distintos da reação, sugerindo a predominância, conforme o caso estudado, de fatores diferentes, tais como o contato sólido-sólido, atuando para aumentar a taxa de reação, e o excesso estequiométrico de carbono ou a dificuldade de penetração do gás reagente, concorrendo para diminuir a taxa de reação. A reação investigada caracterizou-se por ser aproximadamente de segunda ordem em relação ao cloro, à temperatura de 350°C, e, de primeira ordem, a 500°C. / [en] The kinetics of the carbochlorination of pure vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) by the treatment of a powdered mixture of V2O5 and graphite with chlorine gas, was investigated, using the termogravimetric method, in the temperature range of 350°C to 550°C. The effect of chlorination temperature, amount of reducing agent (graphite) and partial pressure of chlorine gas on the reation kinetics was studied. Regarding the influence of temperature on the reaction kinetics, the shrinking-core or topochemical model was used to explain the experimental results obtained during this study. The activation energy of the reaction, in the temperature range of 350 to 400°C, was 52 kJ, suggesting the chemical reaction as the rate controlling step, and, in the temperature range of 400 to 550°C, was 11 kJ, as the diffusion of the reacting gas (fluid-dynamic conditions) seems to be the limiting step. The effect of the amount of graphite, in the range of 17 to 30%, at the temperatures of 350°C and 500°C, leads to distinct reaction behaviors, distinguishing the predominance of different factors according to the case studied, such as the contact between the reacting solids, which acts in order to increase the reaction rate, and the excess of carbon amount or the difficult of penetration of the reacting gas, acting towards a reduction of the reaction rate. The reaction occurred to be about second-order with respect to Cl2, at the temperature of 350°C, and first-order, at 500°C.

[pt] Neste trabalho é proposta uma metodologia de processamento da imagem associada a uma rede neural de perceptrons multicamadas, que é capaz de segmentar e reconhecer caracteres manuscritos cursivos. Esta técnica é robusta quanto à mudança na escala e translação dos caracteres, ligeiras variações na forma do caracter e ruído provocado pro tremores na mão do escritor. Pode ainda tornar-se robusta quanto à rotação, dependendo da escolha dos Descritores de Fourier. O método aproveita a existência de características geométricas e topológicas ou padrões de linhas. Estes componentes são fundamentais na construção da letra. São descritos pré-processamentos, que produzem os esqueletos dos caracteres, tais como algoritmos de afinamento e alisamento heurístico, filtragem zonal para atenuação de retas horizontais e verticais, detecção de contornos, extração heurística de características e a computação dos Descritores de Fourier representantes dos padrões de linha formadores dos caracteres. Após sua extração, as características são combinadas à entrada da rede neural de modo que cada combinação é reconhecida como pertencente a um determinado caracter. Para completar, os resultados do reconhecimento são combinados de modo a eliminar a interseção de classes proveniente das combinações comuns a vários caracteres. Esta metodologia procura a segmentação e o reconhecimento da forma de caracteres manuscritos, sem utilizar qualquer análise de contexto, o que naturalmente pode aumentar sua eficiência. / [en] This work introduces an image processing methodology that, associated with a multi-level neural network of perceptrons, is able to isolate and recognize cursive handwritten characters. The character isolation technique makes use of fundamental geometric and topological aspectos of the characters. The work describe procedures to extract the characters skeletons, such as thinning and smoothing heuristic algorithms, zoned filtering to attenuate horizontal and vertical lines, contour detection, heuristic extraction of characteristics and the computation of Fourier Descriptors representing the line patterns, that compose the characters. After character extraction, its combined characteristics are presented to a neural network in order to allow recognition (identification). Finally, the results of the character identification are combined to avoid classification intersections, due to common aspects in a number of characters. The introduced methodology concerns only with the segmentation and form identification of the characters. It does not adress any context analysis.

[pt] Bordado como assinatura: tradição e inovação do artesanato na comunidade de Barateiro - Itapajé/CE é uma pesquisa realizada para o mestrado do Departamento de Artes e Design, da PUC - Rio que teve como objetivo principal estudar as questões sócio-culturais da comunidade de Barateiro (Itapajé/CE), sobretudo focalizando o processo de criação dos bordados produzidos na comunidade e o propósito de reinventar as tradições artesanais, a partir do referencial imagético e cotidiano do grupo, após a intervenção promovida pelo Programa de Revitalização do Artesanato de Itapajé - PRA-ITA. / [en] Embroidery as signature: tradition and innovation of the craft in Barateiro s community - Itapaj/CE is a research accomplished for the master´s degree of the Department of Arts and Design, of PUC - Rio that had as main objective to study Barateiro s community partner-cultural subjects (Itapaj/CE), above all focusing the process of creation of the embroideries produced in the community and the purpose of reinventing the craft traditions, starting from the subjective referential and daily of the group, after the intervention promoted by the Programa de Revitalização do Artesanato de Itapaj - PRA-ITA.
