Acreditando no e-learning
[en] This research is about the straight relation between
several disciplines and
areas of knowledge, focusing its approach over concepts and
processes inside
the interface Design field. Design is represented in this
research as a focus point
involving ergonomics, accessibility and e-learning, once it
analyses a model for
transposing learning resources into accessible digital
content for the visually
challenged. The requisites embedded in guidelines and
standard languages
inside the contexts of web accessibility and e-learning,
led the paths of this
research as the knowledge of technical and formal issues in
these areas have
influenced decisions that impact over different levels for
the implementation of an
online educational solution. The support of the Instituto
Benjamin Constant, a
national reference in Brazil related to the matters of
visually challenged people
education, was fundamental to this research through the
collaboration of its
Laboratory of Distance Education (IBC/LED) and their
interest in spreading the
research and education retained in the institute through
the tools offered by elearning.
This partnership allowed benefits such as field studies, the
comprehension of teaching methodologies and educational
resources available
and the opportunity to develop usability tests involving
visually challenged
students and an interface prototype elaborated following
web accessibility and elearning
guidelines. The result of this research suggests a model
for transposing
learning resources into accessible online courses, as well
as a detailed checklist
for the steps involved over the process.

[en] Telepresence refers to a set of technologies that allows a person to feel as if he is in a place other than his true location. Such equipment uses an ordinary camera to film what is happening in an environment and transmits it alive on televisions or monitors to the user in another environment. Sometimes the cameras can be controlled through devices such as keyboards or joysticks. This dissertation presents a tool composed of a head-mounted display (HMD), we used the Oculus Rift DK1, integrated with a device called remote head, able to film with a stereo camera and to transmit to the Oculus Rift the images in 3D. At the same time, the HMD s gyroscope captures the user s head orientation and sends it to the remote head, which has servo motors able to rotate it in order to allow the user to move the stereo camera without any additional device. The project s goal is to provide the user an experience of immersive telepresence, with a low cost and a simple interface. Some tests with users were performed and indicated the benefit of the tool for videoconferencing.

[en] A COMPUTER VISION APPLICATION FOR HAND-GESTURES HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION / [pt] UMA APLICAÇÃO DE VISÃO COMPUTACIONAL QUE UTILIZA GESTOS DA MÃO PARA INTERAGIR COM O COMPUTADORMICHEL ALAIN QUINTANA TRUYENQUE 15 June 2005 (has links)
mouses e teclados, tais
como selecionar estados e objetos e definir direções e
posições. Com base
nestes protótipos apresentamos algumas conclusões e
sugestões para
trabalhos futuros. / [en] Computer Vision can be used to capture gestures and create
more
intuitive and faster devices to interact with computers.
Current commercial
gesture-based interaction devices make use of expensive
equipment (tracking
devices, gloves, special cameras, etc.) and special
environments that make the
dissemination of such devices to the general public
difficult. This work presents
a study on the feasibility of using Web cameras as
interaction devices based
on hand-gestures. In our study, we consider that the hand
is clean, that is, it
has no (mechanical, magnetic or optical) device. We also
consider that the
environment where the interaction takes place has the
characteristics of a
normal working place, that is, without special lights or
backgrounds. In order to
evaluate the feasibility of such interaction mechanism, we
have developed
some prototypes of interaction devices. In these
prototypes, hand gestures and
the position of fingers were used to simulate some mouse
and keyboard
functions, such as selecting states and objects, and
defining directions and
positions. Based on these prototypes, we present some
conclusions and
suggestions for future works.

[en] DESIGN OF GRAPHICAL ROBOT USER INTERFACES: A STUDY OF USABILITY AND HUMAN-MACHINE INTERACTION / [pt] DESIGN DE INTERFACES GRÁFICAS DE SISTEMAS ROBÓTICOS: UM ESTUDO DE USABILIDADE E INTERAÇÃO HUMANO-MÁQUINAJULIA RAMOS CAMPANA 09 July 2018 (has links)
[en] Nowadays, the constant technological advances, and consequently the graphical user interfaces, have become more and more present in the humanmachine interaction. However, in a context where intelligent systems, such as robotic systems, are already a reality, there are still gaps to be filled when we think about integrating robots with custom and complex activities. This research aims on the analysis of Robot User Interfaces (RUIs) usability. When well executed, such interfaces allow operators to remotely perform tasks in complex environments. To that intent, our hypothesis is that, if RUIs are conceived considering the specificities of these interaction models, operational failures will be reduced. The main goal of this research was to evaluate specific guidelines for robotic systems, understanding their relevance in usability. For a theoretical basis, the existing models of interaction with robots and autonomous systems were raised; as well as the design principles that apply to these models. After a bibliographic review, we conducted contextual interviews with users of robotic systems, and usability tests to reproduce, in interfaces with and without RUI guidelines, the interaction processes in the task completion. The final results of the applied techniques proved the validity of the hypothesis, as the systems developed with interfaces specific to the interaction with robots provided better usability and mitigated the occurrence of array of human faults.

[en] The present study starts from the premise that new ways of communication are emerging throughout the years, including the relationship between human and machine, which nowadays, speech is the
predominant communicational vehicle. And in this dialogue, there is a search for the adaptation of the machine to our form of communication and a constant need to human s adaptation to the machine s form of communication. This investigation attempts to clarify if systems based on voice interfaces are in fact composed by a model of interaction that is defined as conversation, and if they are actually being supported by the areas of ergonomics, usability, and also by the basics fundaments of conversation theory. This work finds itself structured in four sections: the first one corresponds to the theoretical foundations; the second section embraces data collection, which gathered several interviews with the users
of conversational interfaces; the third section is established on the content analysis of the previous interviews; lastly, the fourth section concerns the final considerations of the current experience of conversational interfaces.

[en] SUPPORTING THE HCI DESIGNERS DECISION-MAKING ABOUT THE DESIGN OF EXTENSIBLE USER INTERFACES / [pt] APOIANDO O DESIGNER DE IHC NA TOMADA DE DECISÃO SOBRE O DESIGN DE INTERFACES EXTENSÍVEISARIANE MORAES BUENO 22 October 2008 (has links)
O objetivo
deste trabalho é informar o designer sobre diferentes
oportunidades de extensão relacionadas ao resultado da
análise de tarefas e de usuários. Para isto, ele apresenta
uma classificação, baseada na Engenharia Semiótica, que
abrange as técnicas e aplicações extensíveis
pesquisadas.
linguagem subjacente ao domínio do sistema, a NCL (Nested
Context Language). / [en] One of the major problems of software development is to pay
attention to all specific needs of each user in a domain.
The proposal to use extensible applications tries to solve
this problem. Extensible systems are developed so that
they can be shaped by end-users, adding, modifying or
removing functionalities, and so evolve in time. A research
area related to extensible applications for domain expert
users who are not programming professionals is that of End
User Development - EUD. However, it is not found in the
literature, research that specifically support the designer
in making decisions about when it is interesting to extend
the system and which part of it can be extended. The
purpose of this work is to inform the designer about
different extension opportunities related to
the result of user and task analysis. It presents a
classification, based on Semiotic Engineering, which
encompasses the investigated techniques and the extensible
applications. Then, it identifies, in the user and task
analysis questions, those related to the techniques
described in this classification. Therefore, the designer
can identify which approaches can be used in which
situations to extend the system. To evaluate this proposal,
we developed a case study to re-build an authoring tool for
interactive multimedia programs called Composer. The study
goal was to keep the application flexible and extensible
without requiring from users too much knowledge about the
application´s underlying language - the NCL
(Nested Context Language).

[en] A PATTERN-BASED FRAMEWORK TO BUILD SELF-ORGANIZING MULTI-AGENTS SYSTEMS / [pt] UM FRAMEWORK BASEADO EM PADRÕES PARA A CONSTRUÇÃO DE SISTEMAS MULTI- AGENTES AUTO-ORGANIZÁVEISMANOEL TEIXEIRA DE ABREU NETTO 06 October 2010 (has links)
As
[en] The approach of self-organizing systems has increased in relevance and use
within complex domains, for it allows the development of decentralized systems
that exhibit a dynamic and adaptable behavior in facing the challenge of handling
disturbances in the environment, which were previously unknown. The main
difficulties in building self-organizing systems lie in the development of
mechanisms of interaction and coordination between the agents of the
environment and the lack of reuse of solutions already adopted. In this context,
this dissertation proposes a framework as a reusable solution for building
decentralized self-organizing systems, based on major architectural patterns found
in the literature, and also provide a means of extensibility to develop new
mechanisms of interaction and coordination. From the framework, instances of
various fields can be created, for example, a self-organizing and decentralized
solution to the automated guided vehicles problem, as will be presented in this
dissertation.

[en] COME, NOW I AM WAITING FOR YOU: INSTITUTIONALIZATION AND QUALITY OF INTERACTIONS IN DAYCARE: A COMPARATIVE STUDY / [pt] VEM, AGORA EU TE ESPERO: INSTITUCIONALIZAÇÃO E QUALIDADE DAS INTERAÇÕES NA CRECHE: UM ESTUDO COMPARATIVOSILVIA NELI FALCAO BARBOSA 14 November 2013 (has links)
[en] This thesis – Come, now I am waiting for you – Institutionalization and quality of interactions in daycare: a comparative study – registered in the field of education, discusses the process of institutionalization of early Childhood Education and the quality of daily relationships in daycare. From an ethnographic perspective, two daycares were surveyed, one public and one community, in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro, observing the interaction among the children aged three and four in two different classrooms, in each daycare center. The theoretical and methodological references were linked together by way of various authors, especially Corsaro, Vygotsky, Bakhtin and Certeau, aiming to establish a relationship between the process of institutionalization of early childhood education and the everyday interactions of children. The thesis was an exercise in the understanding of everyday activities of the daycare centers, considering children as subjects who, besides being subjected to the processes of institutionalization and familialization, express themselves both individually and collectively, interfering in these processes, showing the dialectical relationship between the macro and micro dimensions of policies and interactions. The concepts of interpretive reproduction and peer culture of Corsaro were the basic tools to observe the children, even in controlled and restricted situations, identifying their power of imagination and creation and identifying their potential to interpretively reproduce the world around them. The analyses revealed what is most important for children in these two institutional spaces: (i) interactions and collective actions that, in the process of interpretive reproduction, favor the creation of strategies for the production of peer culture; (ii) peer culture has its locus in play, but not limited to it; (iii) settings that children experience institutionally in classroom play, are repeated in moments of free play during recess; (iv) children s manifestations characterize all of the space and time of daily institutional activities, disguised as pedagogical value.

[en] RECOMMENDER SYSTEM TO SUPPORT CHART CONSTRUCTIONS WITH STATISTICAL DATA / [pt] SISTEMA DE RECOMENDAÇÃO PARA APOIAR A CONSTRUÇÃO DE GRÁFICOS COM DADOS ESTATÍSTICOSTAISSA ABDALLA FILGUEIRAS DE SOUSA 13 September 2013 (has links)
[en] Research on statistical data visualization emphasizes the need for systems that assist in decision-making and visual analysis. Having found problems in chart construction by novice users, we decided to research the following question: How can we support novice users to create efficient visualizations with statistical data? Thus we, created ViSC, a recommender system that supports the interactive construction of charts to visualize statistical data by offering a series of recommendations based on the selected data and the user interaction with the tool. The system explores a visualization ontology to offer a set of graphs that help to answer information-based questions related to the current graph data. By traversing the recommended graphs through their related questions, the user implicitly acquires knowledge both on the domain and on visualization resources that better represent the domain concepts of interest. This dissertation presents the problems that motivated the research, describes the ViSC tool and presents the results of a qualitative study conducted to evaluate ViSC. We used two methods in our evaluation: the Semiotic Inspection Method (SIM) and the Retrospective Communicability Evaluation (RCE) — a combination of the Communicability Evaluation Method (CEM) and Retrospective Think Aloud Protocol. We first analyze how the questions influence the users traversal through the graph and, then, we address the broader question.
